Based on the wildly popular comic book series "Hellblazer" from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine specializes in giving hell... hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight - or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he's decided to leave his do-gooder life behind. But when demons target Liv, the daughter of one of Constantine's oldest friends, he's reluctantly thrust back into the fray - and he'll do whatever it takes to save her.

make sure give us a review, Brady, I was very interested in the original trailer, but then I had my doubts when I heard it was undergoing 'creative restructuring', and the original female lead was being written out and a different 'direction' was being taken. I might wait a few episodes before getting into it.

I'll definitely let you know what I think of it! And I totally get your skepticism. The changing of the female lead and the banning of letting Constantine smoke sort of made me hesitant to watch it. BUT WE SHALL SEE!

I'm going into this show not really knowing what to expect. I'm not all that familiar with John Constantine from the comics and while I did watch one of the first trailers, I've completely forgotten it. So... we shall see. I'm looking forward to having another DC Comics series to watch though.

I'll give it a try. My only knowledge of Constantine is from the Keanu Reeves movie which wasn't that great, and a rough read on the synopsis of the comics. I'm still of the opinion that this should be on a cable network, banning him from smoking being prime evidence of that. But maybe it'll be good. Who knows.

Okay, so I liked it. Really faced paced, and I really enjoy Matt Ryan as John Constantine. Be warned, it's really freakin' wacky. Like... veeerrryyyyy strange. But I do think it's worth a watch. I'll tune in next week!

I'm not sold on this one yet. I don't know what it is about it, but it couldn't keep my attention. Maybe it was the pacing, or lack thereof. However, I did like Matt Ryan and his performance as John Constantine. He was one of the only things I actually did enjoy. Anyway, I'll give it a few more episodes.

I'm the same. The pacing was all over the place, the pilot focused more on Liv who wasn't even important when they should've been developing Constantine and Chas and Manny. The restructuring certainly did this show no favors. The quality of the episode rose whenever Constantine was on screen, but they'd just continually cut back to Liv and the story would just come to a halt. It was irritating.
The biggest disappointment has to be the Demons. They flicker lights, have black eyes, have some telekinesis powers. It's the same stuff Supernatural has been doing for nearly 10 years. You occasionally get to see their skulls and they can change shape but... it's nothing we haven't seen before.
It's not a good start. I might watch a few more episodes, to see what the series is like without such restructuring. Maybe it'll get better, but otherwise, I don't think I'll be sticking around for long.

This episode was a little better than the Pilot, but not by much. There's no forced exposition or awkward conversations about backstory. It's purely Constantine and Zed in a small town, fighting evil.
Now, as for the new lead Zed. While she's a tad more interesting than Liv, she's not much better. She'll have more time to develop in coming episodes but so far, I'm not too impressed with her. Hell, Constantine is the only interesting character so far.
The main story was pretty bland. A small town, evil ghosts and a witch who was obviously behind everything the moment her and Constantine met. An average stand-alone overall.

So Carey, are you still keeping up with this show? Brady and I called it quits after the first few episodes. Wondering if it's gotten any better.

I haven't given up on it, but I haven't seen anything past the first two episodes just yet. My family watches it and they say it's gotten pretty good. I'm probably gonna marathon it this week sometime, so I'll get back to you on it.

Alas it only has one episode left, unless it DOES get picked up for a 2nd Season.
I personally have enjoyed it, and while there are a few nitpicks I could make about it, I do hope it gets renewed and given a chance to properly explore it's roots and ideas.
