Supergirl is an upcoming American television series developed by writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg set to air on CBS. It is based on the DC Comics character Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), a costumed superhero who is the biological cousin to Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians, who was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. The series was officially picked up on May 6, 2015 after receiving a series commitment in September 2014, and will debut in November 2015.
Twenty-four-year-old Kara Zor-El, who was taken in by the Danvers family when she was 12 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.

I really disagree with a lot of the criticism that the trailer received, particularly the comments of Kara being "too girly". I don't really understand the preconceived notion that, just because someone is a superhero, that they're not allowed to want to dress up for dates and feel feminine. It just confuses me. The Flash had a very similar first trailer, and there are obvious similarities between the two, I've come to notice.
I can't wait to see what they do with series, and how it's going to stand out amongst all of the other supehero shows and movies that are out.

Kara is seriously the female superhero the world needs right now. Especially with the whole "Female Superhero movies won't sell" I admit, I was a bit against the whole, oh she's doing all these girl things but then I remembered, it's because she wants to be human. She doesn't want to be Kara Zor-El. She wants to be just Kara. But she can't run from her legacy. It'll be interesting to see how the show will play out and such. I'm excited to see Kara break out from her cousin's shadow and become her own hero.
And who cares is Kara wants to dress up and be a girl. In case you haven't noticed, she is a girl. A normal alien girl from Krypton with a Cousin named Superman and can lift a bus and stop a bullet. But god forbid Kara goes on a date and lives a normal human life while fighting aliens. But I am 100% excited for this show, especially since I am now DC trash thanks to Chris, Jack and Brady.

I think any hate it got for having her be "too girly" was just squashed in that scene with Cat Grant really empowering the word "girl" as opposed to "woman." The only problem I have with all of it stems from the creative team feeling the need to "felicity-ify" the main female protagonist as a way to make her relatable or beloved by fans. It's starting to annoy me how this trope of awkward, quirky and insecure librarian looking girl has become the mould for female characters to be welcomed with open arms as opposed to the strong, confident, knows what they're doing type. It's like... the Kara's, and the Felicity's of TV won't get called bitches because they're so introverted, and awkward and insecure, but the Thea's, and the Laurel's, and the Iris Wests of TV do because they're confident in what they do, and they don't fumble over their words, etc. But that said, I loved the trailer, and I loved Kara and I'm really excited for it.

I did catch myself looking at Kara like she was dressed like Felicity. I mean it's weird that they are doing that but I personally think Kara will have more layers to her. Not to bash Felicity even more that I kinda already do, but I think Kara will be able to hold her own. And I think we're so used to seeing girls as Quirky and Fun and YouTuber-ish. Thanks Grace Helbig (jk i love you) but Kara seriously should shine and as you say, will rank with the Laurel's, the Thea's and the Iris's and ETC. Kara is the Supergirl we need. Black Widow next?

Yeah, she will actually have development, being the main character and all. I'm just getting tired of the trope. I mean, you'd have someone come in and treat Laurel/Thea/Iris like crap and they'd bite back straight away telling them where they can shove it -- immediately be identified as a "bitch" or "aggressive" or what have you -- but then you'd have characters within that trope that Kara and Felicity sit in who have to experience heckling for a while before they can bite back and their anger is "earned." Does that make sense? The saving grace of it all is that she is the main character, and it is a nice contrast to have this insecure, awkward character who can catch a car with her bare hands, and is bulletproof, and physically you better not mess with her. I'm just making an observation on the types of female characters are "accepted" and the types that are shunned away and it's kinda like... will this pave the way for a Wonder Woman film, or a Black Widow film, or will we have to see those characters "Felicity-ified" in order to see it come to light. It bugs me. But I'm a bit off topic now. I think Greg Berlanti is a genius and he must be rolling in cash now that he has Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow (not to mention all the films and other tv shows he has out). I'm a little nervous about this show not being on TheCW and how much success it might have -- I'm hoping a lot -- and just generally excited for it. The trailer was epic.

But forreal, is it the fall yet because I need this Super Series, like Super now. How super is that?!

This just in the Supergirl pilot has leaked. I don't know how or why but it's out there. And the show apparently won't be coming out until November and not September. Which Super sucks.

I wouldn't be as worried if A) This wasn't the pilot for a show people are already iffy about and B) It wasn't on a network like CBS. The ratings will most likely take a hit after this and based on the criticism the show has gotten from the trailer alone, it needs all the live viewers it can get. Maybe they'll take the pirated numbers into account like some premium channels do, but I doubt it. But even if I do watch the leaked version, I'm definitely still tuning in for it when it airs.

But even now, they sometimes don't. A lot of shows now have been saved because of the social media followings they have, but with CBS, thats a whole different story. Who knows, but considering what criticism the show will get, hopefully CBS will be like, oh we need to see what people thought and actually check social media and stuff like that because the show itself needs to be well received and people have already bashed it based on the trailer. That made no sense. Basically this leak could be good or bad. Basically, it's one big mess. But Imma still watch it tho. And I will not post ANYTHING or say anything about the show once I watch it. I think my excitement got the better of me and I'm just way to excited. But I will be spoiler free in everything until the show actually airs in the fall

I think I'm gonna wait for it to premiere. I was able to wait when The Flash pilot leaked, and didn't watch those four leaked episodes of Game of Thrones, so I think I can do it.

I watched it. I was really weak and watched it. But I'm keeping it more zipped than a hoodie in the middle of winter. I don't want to be the guy that ruins everything for everyone else. So I'm leaving now:

lord, i've been really in two minds about the whole 'Supergirl' thing - I LOVED the version of the character they brought in during the Superman/Batman comics, but the Nu52 version, urgh, I couldn't stand her debut storyline, it tore me up not liking it.
I've never got around to watching Melissa during her run in "Glee" so I'm thankful I only have the mentality of 'oh, she was in "Glee"' compared to 'It's HER from "Glee"!', and I kinda DID like the trailer, but I could see and understand what people were picking up on in their bashing. The one thing that pissed me off personally was the use of the name 'National City'...? Seriously?! Why not just call it "Metropolis" and be done?!
What I don't support is the idea of the series running alongside "Arrow", "The Flash" and "Legends" (don't get me started on THAT whole thing!) - while I once believed "Oh, CBS and CW will never crossover, they're different networks", I know now that the CW is actually a subsiduary or similar of CBS so it could happen, and I think it would be disastrous for that. In a world as dark as "Arrow", and with "The Flash" introducing the idea of 'metahumans' slowly for the world to get used to the idea, the idea that Superman (and now Supergirl) is flying around somewhere, it just wouldn't really 'fit' with the world they have built, in my opinion.
That said, I really am tempted to have a hunt for this episode somewhere - I was dubious about "The Flash" at first, and quickly came around after watching the first few episodes, and seeing the story executied well (i hope). I do like the idea that Supes has been around for a while, and that maybe that his presence has affected other characters as well, like Jimmy and perhaps Cat, not just as a shadow for Kara to step out of from.

I think they consciously decided not to use "Metropolis" because of the correlation it has with Superman. I mean, even if you're not a comic fan, you know Superman lives in Metropolis. With this being Kara's story, I don't think it really makes sense for her to be located in the same city as Clark. It seems like that would cause a lot of problems, like "Well, since it's Superman's city and he's there most of the time, I don't see why he couldn't just fly in and take over for Kara, save the day and be done with it." It just looks like a voluntary creative choice, in my opinion. I think I'm going to wait until the pilot actually airs. I've seen some people talk about how they really enjoyed it, so that gives me hope

All I will say is I did enjoy it, that's it. But yeah, will not say a word. Otherwise I'm really excited for this series, Mellisa is a great actress, she's really cute and adorable besides from the actual show. I'm going to stop talking now about he show until someone else watches it!

When the Smallville Season Eleven comic book came out, Oliver (and by extension Chloe) had to be removed from it because they wanted Arrow to be the main TV Oliver Queen. Deadshot was killed off on Arrow because of the Suicide Squad film. This is DC Comics for you. At least it's better than having one universe for all (coughMARVELcough) but that's probably why they can't use Metropolis for the show -- for legal reasons.
