Get Wes Craven or George Romero to do it, they know about horror.

It's not the horror I'm concerned about. Well I am, but that's the LEAST. It needs someone who knows the GAMES.

It needs someone who can write. Someone who isn't all about slow-mo action and explosions and slo-mo explosions.
There aren't many of them in Hollywood though.

To get away from RE for a minute, Street Fighter was a cult classic with it being Raul Julia's last film. But, the movie as a whole was campy and cheesy in a Batman and Robin way. The second film with Chun-Li was crap, with the lead not even being Chinese, or any of the SF characters looking like their video game counterparts. We all know that the live action RE films suck, but look at Zak Sniders take on zombie films with his remake of Dawn of the Dead. Now that was a zombie flick done right.

I've never been much of a Street Fighter fan, so I never saw the movies but I do remember hearing that the Chun-Li movie sucked. I've also admittedly never saw the entire remake of Dawn of the Dead. I fell asleep >.>

I understand, I would fall asleep at a film and never finished. That's why we have DVDS.

RANT: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) ~ Aimee Nicole
Another long-overdue rant by me, about this damn film. Anyone who knows me know that I love this series, and these movies trashed it. Apocalypse is a bit of a mixed feeling for me. I hated it, but in some aspects, it could have been one of the only ones I was able to stand (the only other one, really, being the first and we saw how that turned out).
Firstly, we can tell coming in that it's LOOSELY (as we come to find out) based on the events of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and the Outbreak series. Raccoon City -- perhaps the most iconic place in all of these games. We grew to love it almost as much as we hated it. It was a huge part of the Resident Evil series.
The first thing I judged with this movie is the lack of care put into it. Look at Silent Hill's movie, for example. The crew behind that film not only worked closer with Konami (the game's creator) but also worked extremely hard to make sure it was true to the games. Whether or not it was is honestly in the eye of the beholder -- Silent Hill has always been open to several different interpretations. But the point I'm trying to make is that the crew used music specifically composed for the games and built the city of Silent Hill -- literally. They BUILT the city's set as an exact replica of the town Silent Hill. They tried very, very hard and that alone makes it great in my eyes.
What did the crew behind the Resident Evil movie franchise use? Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Fucking. Toronto. Not only that, but they used WELL-KNOWN buildings in Toronto and tried to pass it off like we wouldn't notice. The most noticeable is the use of Toronto City Hall. The building at the end that was shot through with the helicopter as Alice ran to avoid it, as well as the large building we see blow up -- that was all Toronto City Hall. This disappoints me greatly -- they didn't care enough to actually make us feel like it was Raccoon City.
On that particular move by Alice to run through the building avoiding helicopter shots -- I hate that scene. Yes, it was bad ass. But it wasn't Alice's move. That scene was ripped directly from Resident Evil CODE: Veronica. It was a move made by Claire Redfield at the beginning of the game as she ran from Umbrella's forces while single-handedly infiltrating their base in France. Claire is truly a bad ass, but as we will later see in Resident Evil: Extinction, she was dumbed down in order to allow Alice to have the spotlight.
On to S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics And Rescue Service). Let me explain why this aspect was entirely wrong. S.T.A.R.S only had 12 members. Six Beta Team members (Rebecca, Dewey, Kenneth, Enrico, Forest, and Richard) and Six Alpha Team members (Wesker, Jill, Chris, Barry, Brad and Joseph). There was a reason for this. They were the elite of the elite. Better than SWAT. Second only to the National Guard. At the end of the first game, there were only five surviving members (Jill, Chris, Brad, Rebecca, Barry), though we find out Wesker DID survive later on. In the movie, S.T.A.R.S almost seems like just another police force as there were several living members. Because S.T.A.R.S. and it's surviving members were so important to the plot of the series and what launched it into what it was, this twisted aspect of the movie really irritated me. Another storyline they threw under the bus in favor of Alice.
Next problem -- Nemesis. This had to have been the worst aspect of the entire movie. Nemesis was a B.O.W (Bio-Organic Weapon) designed specifically for eliminating the surviving S.T.A.R.S. Members. Instead, they made that a minor point in the story and instead made it focus more on Alice. Nemesis, essentially, had no point in this film. He was supposed to be a cold-blooded, emotionless MONSTER whose only goal to kill S.T.A.R.S. In the movie, he was simply a tool for Alice to fight and best -- not only that, but they HUMANIZED him by making him feel for Alice and turn against Umbrella. This is NOT possible and that messed up ROYALLY by doing that. Yet ANOTHER wasted storyline thanks to Alice.
And, of course! There is at least ONE more storyline they wasted on this movie as well. The Ashford storyline. The Ashfords were a huge part of Umbrella's history, as well as Claire Redfield's storyline. However, they destroyed all possibility of that by making Edward Ashford (if I remember correctly, one of Umbrella's founders) into a regular employee who created the virus to treat his daughter. No. That is NOT how the T-Virus came into existence. It was created by James Marcus for use as a biological weapon. There were no good intentions in the creation of the T-Virus. That's what made it all the more worse, in my opinion. And that daughter? No. Edward didn't have a daughter, he had a son, Alexander, who gave birth to the incestuous and demented twins Alfred and Alexia -- who would become the biggest thorns in Claire Redfiend's sides next to the Umbrella Corporation itself.
I also hated how they brought the Lickers back (once again doing them wrong, if you see my rant for the first movie). I would have rather seen the Hunters. They were MUCH more prominent in Raccoon City than Lickers were. Again, that goes back to carelessness of the crew.
However, in with all the bad this movie had, there were two things that I actually liked. The first, Jill Valentine. Sienna Guillory nailed that performance on the head. I actually loved her Jill -- down to her OUTFIT. She really got into that. I've seen so many interviews with her, and special features of her, where she explained that she spent HOURS and HOURS playing the games and watching Jill so that she knew to get her right. Even the way she walked -- omg. Sienna was a fantastic Jill Valentine and was perhaps the best thing about this movie. The only downside to it was the fact that she was downplayed in order to make Alice look better. THe line that pisses me off more than anything is when Jill looks at Alice and says, "I'm good, but I'm not that good." That is the most bullshit like, ever.
Anyways, on to the last part. I liked that they actually had the virus spread like it was supposed to. Through BITES and not an airborne virus like they tried to pull in the first movie. Although the way it got into the city was still horrendously wrong, I can accept that. It also goes on to say that the beginning of the movie was stupid. Raccoon City was not evacuated, really. By the time they tried, it was too late and they blockaded the cities. There were no medical screenings. If you were in, you STAYED in. They kept the people there and left them to die.
To conclude this rant, I want to point out one last bullshit scene in that movie. The end. Where the hell did Alice get the ability to kill that man from afar? When did this movie become a Resident Evil/X-Men crossover and when the hell did Alice become Jean Grey? But I will continue THAT particular rant in Resident Evil: Extinction.
I probably forgot a few things, but when I remember, I will definitely be adding to this or post the thoughts separately.

Sidenote* - A portion of Silent Hill was filmed in my hometown. In fact it was our downtown that they used. Apparently is was creepy enough to be used as part of Silent Hill. True fact. LOL.

If Sheva appears in an RE film these are women who would be right for the role: 1 Zoe Saldana 2 Meagan Good 3 Christina Milian 4 Jennifer Lopez 5 Naomie Harris 6 Katerina Graham 7 Logan Browning 8 Phoebe Tonkin 9 Crystal Lowe 10 Brandy
Any one agree?

I like Logan Browning but she's too young to play Sheva, in my opinion. Zoe Saldana would be the perfect choice, I think, but I really liked Sheva so I hope they don't defile her by putting her in one of these shitty movies.

If Zoe Saldana plays Sheva I will blow my brains completely out. I am so TIRED of that woman, it's not even funny. The woman who played Sheva looks like her exactly, and, also, might I add has her voice and is an actress. SHEEEEEEEE should play Sheva.
