^Speaking of (and this is totally off topic), will you be getting to your "Apocalypse" rant in the Resident Evil thread sometime soon? I'm quite looking forward to that one... haha, if your rant over the first movie (the least ridiculous of the movies) is anything to go by, that one should be at least thrice as long. xD

I would rage at the very mention RE: Apocalypse but I'm all out of rage today.
Here is my view on adaptions in general. See if I can get it a bit more coherent than my last one.
To me, adaptions should carry the soul of its source material but should not be a complete copy. I'm fine with them changing the X-Men team as long as it keeps the genre and soul of the piece. I'm fine with them changing the Resident Evil universe as long as its survival horror, not action (GODDAMN YOU FILMS!!!).
I'm fine with it as long as it is the same genre, knows the source material and is well written. Game Of Thrones is a good example here. It knows its source material, it knows its full of filth, greed and flawed characters. The show also contained all these. It changed a few characters a little, editied a few storylines but was still very loyal to the source material.
The Silent Hill film is a negative example. It took the story of the first game, it took the mythology (changed it a little too much, but thats another story) and still managed to fuck it all up. The first half of the film was good but once they meet with the Cult, the film goes to Hell. As a fan of the series, I hated it. As a critic I hated it.
If you're still with me, I've kinda got no idea what I'm even saying anymore. I guess what I'm saying is that I like adaptions as long as they are the same genre and are well written. Silent Hill is the same genre but is a shit film. Resident Evil is a slow-motion, practically Matrix action film and is incredibly shit. Game Of Thrones is loyal to the books and is one of the best shows on right now.
Ok, If you understood any of that, you're smarter than I am.

The comic book movies though did exactly what RE did to the games. Granted I will say I enjoy the Marvel movies better but they didn't just tweak story lines and characters they were completely off and not loyal to the source material at all - and for someone who reads the comics I know this.
So we feel the exact same about these movies that you do about RE and Silent Hill, and the fact is I don't know crap about Silent Hill or RE but I understand why someone who knows those would be upset about it because I am like that with comics.

Was X-Men: First Class truly intended to be a prequel to the other movies, or just a new universe altogether? I recognize that there were cameos that throwback to the trilogy, but I thought I read somewhere that they weren't actually connected.
But anyways, to potentially change the subject and reawaken this thread, is anyone interested in seeing the new Ghost Rider movie, Spirit of Vengeance? It comes out February 17, 2012. The first film was alright as far as movies go. I have never read a single Ghost Rider comic book so I am not sure of his backstory or really anything about the character, but I thought the movie was good. I am going to watch the sequel, but I do not have any real high expectations.

I finally saw it the other night and I was NOT impressed at ALL. The action was cool, the music was fantastic, and the relationship between Erik and Xavier was nice but the movie in relation to the comics at all was terrible. As a movie alone, I guess it was okay aside for the blatant sexism all the way through it. But as a movie related to the comics, well...yeah. As for Ghost Rider, I'm not a fan of it XD So I won't be seeing it.

I do not want to be the cause of you having to rant again! Sorry to bring it back up. I am glad to hear you finally watched the movie though.

What are the Ghost Rider movies like? Nicolas Cage puts me off wanting to see them.

I try to find something to appreciate in every superhero/comic book based movie. It really was not that bad of a film, I just did not have much expectations because I knew nothing about Ghost Rider. I am probably wanting to see the sequel more because it comes out my birthday weekend. haha

I'm with Carey on this one. Not a huge fan of Nicholas Cage... actually, I cringe at the sight of him in a new movie trailer, every. single. time. I don't know why... maybe because he has no talent and he wear's this exact expression: -_- in every scene. *cringes* Ah, but that's a rant for another time Don't plan on seeing any Ghost Riders films.

And theVPN has, yet again, page jumped me. Maybe I should increase the number of posts before a page jump... hmm... well, then it would just take longer to look like you're talking to yourself... the problem never really goes a way.

Ugh. I can't stand Nicholas Cage. Terrible casting choice for Ghost Rider. I mean, I don't read the comics, but I knew a bit on his character before I went to see the first film, and ugh. Just no. He should NOT be Ghost Rider. He's like ... 87 years old.

^ I agree with you all on that one. I'm not a fan of Nicholas Cage, either. I will admit I know NOTHING about Ghost Rider, but from what I heard...well, basically what Jack said. XD The casting for comic book movies always gets me. Some of their choices are absolutely amazing, and others are like, "WTF? Did you pull that out of your ASS?"

The exchange from the trailer...
"I'm not afraid of you" "You should be"
Could they get any more cliche? Really? I'll stick with The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers, give Ghost Rider a miss.
