The story is set in the small town of Storybrooke, Maine. The town is populated by characters from fairy tales, who have been exiled to the real world due to a curse cast by the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) as part of a revenge plot against Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). Because of the curse, most of the inhabitants of Storybrooke have no memory of their true identities and have been stuck timelessly in Storybrooke for years. This changes when Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), the adopted son of Storybrooke's Mayor Regina Mills (also Lana Parrilla), seeks out his birth mother, Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), a bounty hunter living in Boston and coerces her to come to Storybrooke. Henry, who knows about the curse from a book given him by his teacher Mary Margaret Blanchard (also Ginnifer Goodwin), informs Emma that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming and that she is destined to break the curse holding everyone in Storybrooke. Skeptical, Emma decides to stay in Storybrooke after seeing how lonely Henry is and how he is emotionally neglected by his mother. In staying, Emma continues to run afoul of Mayor Mills. This conflict only increases when Emma becomes the town Sheriff. Each episode usually focuses on one main character who is experiencing some sort of conflict in Storybrooke. Flashbacks also show what their character's story was in the fairy tale world of the Enchanted Forest. In the first season, almost all of the flashbacks involved Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) making deals with the protagonists as part of some sort of machiavellian plot. In Storybrooke, Rumpelstiltskin is known as Mr. Gold, the wealthiest man in town.

This show really surprised me. I thought it would be an utter failure, but it just gets better and better each week. My main reason for watching the show has got to be Rumpelstiltskin and the Evil Queen. Both of them are so twisted and evil, it's ridiculous.

Really like this show. Not on my top ten favorites list, probably not even 20, but maybe top 30. lol But, this is still a pretty good show, and the season finale was truly epic! One of the best episodes of the series so far, and I hope it keeps it up going into season two. Now that magic has come to Storybrooke and all the fairy tale characters remember who they are, this show will definitely be making a big change.

Yeah, it is a great show with a season finale that make me look forward to Fall for season 2. And I really hope they put it on Netflix, I need another reason to procrastinate

Before I put my true hysterical reaction down that I wrote before this I would like to preface it with things that make sense. Fairy Tales are a big thing with me. Not just Disney but original Grimm which makes this show such a hit for me. I love that Disney owns ABC so they are allowed to make allusions to their movies that the current viewers of Once Upon a Time saw as kids, with a new mature twist. It is certainly in my top favorites right now and I can't wait until season 2 premieres in 4 days. Now....for my melt down I just finished marathoning the whole first Season....I don't even know what to do with myself anymore! I got so invested and fell in love with this show!! Also it has managed to do something not all shows can do and the is surprise me. It had twists that I wasn't expecting and they fleshed out fairy tale characters into real people and made all these strangely excellent connections in each story and Snow and Charming and Belle and Rumple and Regina and Emma and Hatter and Huntsman and and OMG I just...I just can't.

I know Captain Hook is on the show now, but I really hope that doesn't mean Peter Pan is going to show up any time soon, or you know... at all. I really didn't like Peter Pan growing up. lol

And the plot thickens... I guess I'm liking this season so far. They're covering some new ground, which is always good. I love the whole deal with Cora. If she ever makes it to Storybrooke, there's gonna be a whoppin', and I'm not sure who'll come out on top between her and Regina. Hopefully we get to see some of that soon. And Captain Hook is... surprisingly interesting so far. I just think the creative ways the writers find to portray these characters and their origin stories... you know, without it being too lame... is just amazing. Rumpelstiltskin seems to play a role in every one of the character's story, in some way or another, which is just fine, because I love his character. Anyway, I'm still keeping up with this show, so I guess it's doing a good enough job.

I loved the whole thought of "The Crocodile" and how that plays into the latest episode. Also I love how Belle is seeking some independence but also wanting to keep up her relationship with Rumpelstiltskin. And I especially love the new characters and three tiered storyline of Past Fantasy, Story Brooke, and Modern Fantasy.

I stopped watching this show in the middle of season two, but I've decided to pick it back up. So far, the current season is interesting. I'm mostly in it for Elizabeth Mitchell, if I'm being completely honest.
