Police detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) is newly returned to work after being in a car crash along with his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) and his son Rex (Dylan Minnette). After the crash Britten discovers that every time he goes to sleep he switches between two realities, one in which his wife died in the crash and one in which his son died. In the reality where his wife is alive he is partnered with rookie Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) and is seeing a confrontational department-recommended psychiatrist Dr. Lee (B.D. Wong). His wife has redecorated the house and begins pushing him to move in an apparent effort to move past their son's death. In the reality in which his son is alive, Britten maintains his long time partner Isaiah "Bird" Freeman (Steve Harris) and sees a more nurturing psychologist, Dr. Evans (Cherry Jones). His son, previously a football player, has recently returned to playing tennis, and is coached by Hannah's former doubles partner Tara (Michaela McManus). Britten remains unsure which of the two realities, if either, is real, and begins to worry he is losing his sanity when details begin to cross over between the two.

I really like the pilot. No doubt the concept is one of my most original ones I've seen in a while, but I really hope they focus on that more than the police procedural they had going in the pilot. I can see that getting old far too soon. It's like, they have this huge, amazing, overarching theme, and that's it. Where do they go from here? That'll be the thing that makes or breaks this show.

When first heard about this show, I was intrigued by the idea and saw a trailer a while back and looked good. I haven't got to look at it yet, but will be giving it a chance very soon.
The one concern for me I have is that it doesn't end up being like Life on Mars, where at the end we find he's just in a coma and imagining it all. Not a fan of that show at all so hope doesn't go down that route.

I've seen the first two episodes of this now, and while I really loved the pilot, I'm feeling a little "neh" about the second episode. I liked the pilot for the psychology stuff, but I'm not a huge fan of the detective work and stuff, but I can see why they'd need top focus on that, otherwise the show wouldn't go anywhere. The little twist at the end of the second episode peaked my interest though, so I think I'm going to keep watching.
My parents and I have different theories about what's actually going on, and funnily enough, Stevie, my Dad actually thinks that both his wife and son are dead, or both are alive, and he's in a coma. I tend to believe that he's got one foot in two parallel universes, and I'm excited to see how that will all play out.

This show just can't keep my attention. I think I'll stick with it for half the season, at least, but it's starting to fall flat in some areas.
