While this story outine sounds EPIC(!) I have to admit I was looking forward to the whole idea of Chloe getting a new love interest - I remember ready that in the spoilers AGES ago and being intrigued who it could be, be it an original character, or someone from the comics. Sacrificing that storyline was a tough one. It really was something I was looking forward to doing, but in terms of the bigger picture and seeing how many episodes are left to tell this Hush storyline, and set up what I'm doing for the following season, things just fell together in a way that will make the episode far better than it was originally going to be. This happens every season, though. As those final episodes steer their head in, a lot of stuff gets sacrificed because more important things come into play.

I think I actually prefer the episode to showcase the relationship with Lana and Chloe. We've had Chloe be in a romantic arc for the past two seasons, and we've seen her grieve throughout this one, so I think bringing her back together with Lana will be a great addition to this season. In canon, the last time we saw them together was back in season 8 of Smallville (I think?). So, if it's a sacrifice of a potential love interest for Chloe to get her kicking tons of ass with Lana, then I'm definitely all here for it.

Yeah, Chloe and Oliver pretty much began in the second episode of the first season, and didn't finish up until the second season finale. This season was a nice change to show her functioning without Oliver, and see how she carries out the mission they started on her own and also figuring out who she is as an individual. That's why breaking them up allowed this season to focus so much on identity, and I wouldn't have been able to do it in the way that I've done, and the way I've got planned, had Chloe been in a relationship. This episode wasn't supposed to be the "start" of something with another person. It was essentially just opening her heart back up again and starting to move on with life, which is appropriate after the 50th episode. However, in driving not just the main character's storyline but the entire season arc forward, bringing Lana into it instead is much more effective. It's been so long, man. So, so long. I can't wait to binge watch so many Chloe/Lana moments to get their vibe back together, and then write this episode.

the two top ChLana moments for me, off the top of my head, that come straight to mind have to be;
a) their fight scene in "Delete".
b) when they team up after figuring out Clark was kidnapped in "Traveler".

There are so many great Chlana moments from Smallville. I love in "Rosetta" when Chloe adds Lana to her family tree under 'sister,' their bowling / hens night in "Freak," and of course "Traveler" is definitely a highlight of their relationship and will be one of the episodes I'll be watching back to get that business / team work vibe from them. There's a deleted scene from Season Seven where Lana went to the daily planet to tell Chloe that she's still alive (such a strange sentence to write) and it's such a good moment. I love it. I hate when great scenes get cut

I'd forgotten about the hen night! It's weird, for so many years, I watched "Smallville" primarily for the Chloe/Clark dynamic, but thinking back on it, and seeing the pictures that pop up when you type "Chloe/Lana Smallville", I can see how much time they did spend on developing the relationship between the two major women in Clark's life. But I still get tingles every time I watch Chloe put the beat down on Lana...

Dude, Chloe is so badass. I love her so much, haha. I think it's hilarious how there was an entire episode where everyone was trying to kill her, lol. And the HBIC is too resilient to let that get her

Well can't you do the storyline next season? I mean it involved Waller and Checkmate.
And I know Ollie is coming back, but I have to be honest, I kind of don't want her back with Ollie.
Everyone hide the pitchforks. I don't mean this in a bad way. It's just that even IF Ollie gets his memory of her back, that would seem like a giant step back for her character. The woman he fell in love with died on that rooftop and her getting back with him is setting up a chance for the Darkwatch thing go happen again. Or something much worse.
I love what you've done with her character this season. Having her be a single mother/superhero, it works. And Jack you know how much I love Chlollie, hell I'm Bruce/Selina shipper. But just like that relationship, all good things must come to an end. And I'm sorry if this sounds harsh or mean. I swear it isn't, I've just been on a re-read of WT and it kind of gave me some new perspective.

But just like that relationship, all good things must come to an end. And I'm sorry if this sounds harsh or mean. I swear it isn't, I've just been on a re-read of WT and it kind of gave me some new perspective. No, the episode is 100% connected to Hush. Waller and Checkmate were always involved in 317. The original plan felt more "filler" than anything else, which is why I changed it. Lana was always going to be in the episode, and so was Waller/Checkmate. The only thing that was removed was the love interest storyline, and then everything flowed much better. You will see why it's an important episode when it airs, and when the remaining episodes air after it. Waller and Checkmate are just important to this season as they are next season, and again, you'll see why I'm really happy that you're enjoying Chloe this season. The big theme of the year was "identity" and for Chloe that required stripping her away from everything to see what she wanted in her life. It was important to see Kyle teleport her to where she considered home in that second episode of the season where she ended up within the walls of The Watchtower. That's a huge part of her identity. Seeing what choices she makes with a child in her life now, that grabs these two worlds of hers and welds them together, so the fact that you're enjoying this single mother/superhero identity storyline for her means a lot. Thanks, man. I don't see how Oliver and Chloe reuniting sets up "Darkwatch" -- a storyline that could only happen with Emil Hamilton returning to his evil ways of the first season, which isn't the case (ever). Chloe and Oliver didn't break up by choice. They didn't part ways because they didn't work. In fact, by the end of the second season, they were planning to set up shop at Star City, get re-married, and raise a family outside of the superhero life. Chloe hasn't become a drastically different person since "Anarchy." She's just been forced to adapt, and forced to lead a life free of the shackles that destiny has on people. She's a free agent now. As for the Chloe/Oliver storyline... as much as I love reading everyone's opinions, and I love knowing what people are liking and what people aren't... that doesn't really affect the show. I've got a story planned that I'm passionate about and so I do that story. What I've got planned for Oliver, and what I've got planned for a future Chloe/Oliver dynamic... it's something I think will be really great for the characters and the show. Their story is far from over and far from finished but if you're expecting these two characters to just fall back into a relationship -- memory or no memory -- then I can tell you that's not going to happen. What happened in the second season won't be reversed. The development that happened with Chloe outside of her relationship with Oliver, won't be reversed. When Chloe and Oliver come into contact, it will be a fresh dynamic because of what happened to these two characters, individually. I hate when television shows do a "one step forward, two step back" mentality with its characters, and so losing his memory of Chloe, and having this life outside of her for almost two years now... it provides us with more story than reverting back to an Oliver that remembers everything that was stripped from him. You'll see what I mean when the time comes

Because that was a nice little tease Smallville threw in there back in the old days so I wonder if that will resurface now that Chloe is not in his memory But all this pales in comparison until you re-introduce Ollie and Hope to each other. I feel like that is going to put a wrench in a lot of things. And I can't wait to see how Bruce handles Ollie coming back. I mean these two are besties and I'm sure punches will be thrown about secrets being kept.hahaha

Whether anything has come of those two -- as they are just as iconic a couple as Lois and Clark in my books -- I can't really say. I have enjoyed writing their friendship back in the second season, and while nothing has been announced, they could very well be arriving in Gotham City together, considering the "Arrow Family/Team Arrow" have been going strong since "Sacrifice." I have always said that the comics aren't going to be duplicated on the show, as much as certain things will be twisted and turned and altered and played with here and there to fit into the story ideas that I have for the show going forward which I think, when it comes to couples and pre-determined things, it's a fair approach. There's a lot of stuff about Oliver's arc that I can't talk about and there's so much stuff being brought up now that makes me want to say stuff that I just can't without spoiling things. But I'll be able to talk more about Oliver once the season is over, I promise.

"Countdown" Spoilers - Project Respawn makes a return in this episode, alongside Emil Hamilton (Alessandro Juliani). - Several scenes take place on Paradise Island. - In the alternate reality, Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson are a couple. - Chloe and Oliver share two children together -- the oldest, a girl, and the youngest, a boy. - Fans will learn the mystery behind who killed Vespar Fairchild (108 "Trial"). In this world, Bruce has been imprisoned for her murder. - The longer Chloe is exposed to the alternate reality, the more it becomes less alternate. "She will slowly start to remember things that happened in this world that didn't really happen," Malone told of the upcoming fiftieth episode, telling VSGuide that the only way to reverse the alternate reality is to understand the gift it brings her. "It is essentially a birthday present from Zatanna, granting her a wish and allowing her a choice of which world she wants to live in." Malone finished by claiming that reality won't reset unless it's what Chloe truly wants, deep down (as much as she wanted to live in this reality in the first place). - The Huntress doesn't exist in this world, as Helena gave up her identity after reuniting with her father, Guido (Julian McMahon). - Despite the several Smallville alumni returning for the episode, it is only Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and Pete (Sam Jones III) who will play a major role throughout the entirety of the episode. - Elise Gatien reprises her role as "Mia Dearden." - Rick Cosnett shares all his scenes with Sam Jones III and Bridget Regan. - This episode introduces DC Comics' Wonder Woman (Bridget Regan). - Yvonne Strahovski told VSGuide that the fiftieth shows a more damsel in distress type Vicki Vale, claiming that it was the speech at the end of the season two finale that made Vicki realise she was strong enough to fight back and survive on her own. "Chloe influenced her greatly, and coming into Team Watchtower [in season two] turned Vicki into more than just a reporter. In this world, she hasn't had much experience outside of finding the truth, and maintains the kind of damsel and in distress type persona you'd see in the old Batman films," Strahovski told of her character's differences in the episode. "It feels like stepping back into the character I started with when she was first introduced, and it makes me incredibly proud to see how far she's come since then." - The producers haven't given up on finding a role for Michael McKean's "Perry White" in the episode. - The GCPD have been replaced with super-humans, who are under order to "eliminate" the entire city. - Gordon (Dylan Walsh) leads a resistance. Alfred (Michael Caine) serves as the team's medic, with Barbara (Emma Stone) as their eyes and ears. They recruit Chloe (Allison Mack) and Lana (Kristin Kreuk) after obtaining information only they can decipher. - Serinda Swan told VSGuide that she was thankful to play such a large role in celebrating the fiftieth, describing her role in the episode as being "peppered throughout." Zatanna is said to literally be at the beginning, middle and end of the episode. - While the story launches after the fact, Bruce is said to have been a vigilante within prison walls, having plotted a massive breakout with other inmates to escape into the city and fight back. Producers told VSGuide that it was important to show that no matter who entered Bruce's life, he was always destined to become Batman. "He may not have a costume, and he may not have had the time to go off and train, but Bruce's vendetta is that first step towards becoming this hero, and we get to see that in a new light," said Bale, telling fans to expect a much darker version of the character, "There's no Alfred, and there's no Chloe to teach him the difference between vengeance and justice." - Wonder Woman makes reference to the Lansinarians. - Following the events of the previous episode, there will only be two major developments in the present day storyline. One will feature Chloe and the team, and the other will revolve around Talia (Stana Katic) who is said to introduce a new threat to the team -- whether that be an accident or an active decision on her part. "Both will launch us towards the final string of [season three] episodes."

I NEED this like soon . I'm so excited to see the Sullivan-Queens in real time. And Mia being their just makes my heart swoon. Also excited to see how Bruce and Helena are living their lives without Chloe's guiding hands. And let's not forget Gordon, Babs, and Dick working together. I love it.

Also excited to see how Bruce and Helena are living their lives without Chloe's guiding hands. And let's not forget Gordon, Babs, and Dick working together. I love it. I'm very adamant about having all the episodes airing together, so it may be a bit of a later than usual return date but Season Three will definitely wrap up this year so that's exciting. The great thing about the back half of the season is that episode after episode just brings us one step closer towards that finale, and so something huge is happening every single episode. That makes the motivation to power through and get this done quickly even greater so hopefully the show won't be on hiatus for too long! Mia is of course back for the 50th. She has continued to play an important role on the show since that first season, and she will continue to do so in the next fifty episodes of the show. As for Bruce and Helena, they have two really different directions that you'll see in the fiftieth, and there's a little twist in Helena's story that I don't think people will see coming.

I notice in the spoilers you refer to Diana's home as 'Paradise Island', and not 'Themyscira'... is that a creative choice?
Will you be acknowledging the small cameos/mentions that both Themyscira and Diana had in "Smallville"?

I notice in the spoilers you refer to Diana's home as 'Paradise Island', and not 'Themyscira'... is that a creative choice? Will you be acknowledging the small cameos/mentions that both Themyscira and Diana had in "Smallville"? It's official title is "Themyscira" but it can be coined Paradise Island. There's no story behind it. The true Wonder Woman storyline doesn't get tackled until the fourth season, and so I can't really tell you specifics about it yet. In this alternate reality, her origin is very much tackled in the episode. There isn't time to explore if these cameos/mentions were really a nod towards her -- suggesting she is already Wonder Woman in the Smallville universe -- or if the wires can easily cross. Figuring out what the best approach to do is a bridge I'll cross when it comes time to introducing her into the series properly, next season.
