Ever since it was announced that Marvel favorite Clark Gregg would be returning as Agent Phil Coulson in the upcoming TV series Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., questions have abounded about where it takes place in the timeline of the films. That's now been put to rest. IGN spoke with ABC President Paul Lee, who said flat out that the series takes place after the events of The Avengers.
“There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York."
Lee, like Whedon said yesterday, made sure we know the series will take place on it's own terms and be it's own story.
“This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us.”
The biggest question that this brings up is how Agent Coulson is around for this series given his unexpected demise in last summer's The Avengers. Life Model decoys anyone?
The pilot for Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. will begin filming later this month and is expected to air this fall if picked up for series. In the show, Clark Gregg is joined by Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, and Chloe Bennet as Skye. Joss Whedon will direct the pilot and co-write it with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.

I really hope this show gets picked up to series. I'm excited for it, even if it isn't the "Heroes For Hire" series I was hoping for. But I'd love, love, LOVE to see a Marvel-related live action TV series and this seems like it'll be pretty awesome.

ABC's upcoming Marvel Universe television series, "Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D." has scored a Joss Whedon alumni. TVLine reports that "Angel" star J. August Richards has joined the cast in a secret role.
Richards joins Clark Gregg, who returns as Agent Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May and Chloe Bennet as Skye.
The series filmed a pilot earlier this year and, likely headed to series, is expected to begin airing in the fall of 2013. Joss Whedon directed the pilot and co-wrote it with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
"Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D." will be executive produced by the Whedons, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.

ABC has announced that their upcoming small screen foray in Marvel's cinematic universe has a new title. Formerly known as "Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.", the new series will now be called "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." The newly-released synopsis for the show reads as follows:
Joss Whedon shows us not all heroes are super with "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, Marvel's The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).
Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.
Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen ("Dollhouse," "Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog"), Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias") and Jeph Loeb ("Smallville," "Lost," "Heroes") comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
There's no word yet on when the show might premiere, but check back for details as soon as they become available.

Okay so... who's tuning in tonight? Edit: Just realized, I'm almost the only one who's even posted in this thread, so I'll probably be by my lonesome. But that's okay... lmao!

I'm gonna watch it, I haven't been overly impressed with the previews for it but I'm gonna give it a chance. Plus, my wife really wants to see it.

I haven't been too impressed by the trailers either, but the fact that it's MARVEL, and not to mention Joss Whedon is 'somewhat' involved... is enough for me to watch, at least, the first few episodes.

I enjoyed the pilot. It's just so interesting seeing the Marvel cinematic universe on TV, and I felt like it was just that. I think it translates well from the big screen. The character dynamics are good, the episode was full of classic "Whedon-y" dialogue. It was just really cool. Has lots of room to get better, so I'll be tuning in from week to week.

Agreeing with you there, Chris. It was really good but not sure I'd class it as outstanding. There were some great funny moments and surprisingly I actually like all of the main characters which is refreshing. Helps that they're all cute too - Skye and Ward especially.

I may have liked this episode a bit more than the pilot. And not just because of that bit at the end, although it was great! I'm warming up to some characters I was a bit indifferent toward in the pilot, like Skye and Agent Ward. I think my favorites have to be Fitz and Melinda though. Hope to see more from them (especially Melinda) soon. Looking between my icon and the name "Agent Ward" -- it's making me picture Enver Gjokaj in that role.... and now I'm sad. lol

So I've watched the first 4 episodes, and am about to watch the 5th, and am already hard at work on a AoS opening credits, but I still find myself unsure about the series in general... Many of the 'jokes' fall flat for me, and while the episodes are enjoyable, it feels like it hasn't gelled as well as I would expect it to. One question I have - a couple of years ago, ABC Family were apparently working on a series focusing on Bobby Morse, aka Mockingbird, the woman who in the comics becomes Hawkeye's wife for a time. The premise was basically early "Alias" - having her recruited by a 'spy organisation' while a freshmen in college. That idea, I'm more or less hoping won't come of anything, since it feels like territory already visited, but does that mean the character WONT be appearing in "AoS"? I hope that's not the case, because it would be nice if they brought in some more established comic characters - it would more help cement the show in the Marvel world, then the occasional 'guest appearance'.

After not much thought, I've decided to drop this show. I would have done it sooner, but the fact that it's a show with such talented people behind it, I figured I would just stick it out. Well, I lasted half a season, and it still hasn't shown me much to believe it'll get any better. It's full of characters and storylines I couldn't care less about. The writing isn't too great either. Perhaps too much studio interference? It's the only explanation I can think of at this point. Because this show has no reason to be this bad.
Maybe the back half of the season wll be better, but I'll probably wait for it to end before giving it a shot.
