Episode #4.05 - Let's Go OutWritten by: Brady Brown Produced by: TheVPN 01/20/15: Title posted. - Michael loses his keys, and Paula is more than happy to drive her "bestie" around. - A major character, yet to be cast, will make their first appearance. When you say "major" do you mean a new regular, or just a new recurring character who is going to have a lot of involvement in the sequence? Speaking of, are we to assume all main characters are returning, or would that be a spoiler in itself? I'd love to see more of Judy, and her relationship with Paula, not to mention how her sexually playful teasing with Michael would affect the relationships between the 'besties' and the sisters. I personally have to admit, maybe because of my general indifference towards Angus T. Jones, but I'm not fussed if David were to die in the season premiere - I think it would be good character development for Alisha especially, but all the characters involved. Given the fact Robbie and Mia are at least looking to be around for a little longer, I'd like to see how the incident on the set affects them too.

When you say "major" do you mean a new regular, or just a new recurring character who is going to have a lot of involvement in the sequence? A recurring character that will play a major role in one of the character's story arcs. I will make that casting announcement soon. Well I can't tell you that! Haha. But you will definitely see more of Judy, especially in 4.02. You'll have to wait and see about David! Even though I will totally agree about Angus T. Jones haha. Don't really know what I was thinking with him, but eh. And Alisha, Robbie, and Mia will all have really unique story arcs that will develop them in a huge way. Hopefully you enjoy!

4.01 - Regrets | REVIEW
Brady, why would you do this to us? This was one of the most heartbreaking episodes of Audition I've ever read! Don't think I was able to crack a single smile, which was to be expected after the sequence 3 finale. Everyone in the premiere was so raw and emotional after David's shooting, most of all Alisha. It was tough reading what she was going through. She just didn't know what to do with herself, besides blame herself. Mia and Alisha are fighting. What else is new. I thought they were about to have an epic kung fu battle in the middle of the emergency room. You know a situation is bad when even Paula can't bring a little light to everyone's day. Her realizing it was Jace that shot David was pretty rough too. I liked the parallel between her and Alisha here, both questioning their part in the events and blaming themselves for what happened. I wonder if that will be a recurring theme for this sequence. At least until things start looking up. AND THAT LAST SCENE!!I was so relieved that David survived. I don't know what I'd do it you killed him off haha. But that final scene.... it broke my heart. David has every right to feel the way he feels right now. He's been through so much pain in such a short amount of time, so I don't really blame him for breaking it off with Alisha. But it's still really sad. I'm not sure if they'll ever be able to be what they were, but hopefully time will heal a few scars for them. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for this sequence. Even though I'm tearing up a bit, I love how this show can go from light-hearted and fun to really emotionally heavy and dramatic. You find a great balance wherever its needed, and it really shows how good this show is Can't wait for 402! Hope we start to see the humor slowly make its way back into the show. Great way to open the sequence, Brady! I need more! And I need it now!! haha

4.01: Regrets What an aftermath. That was so sad! So, after the events on the sequence three finale you'd expect everyone to be a bit emotional, but this was too much for me to handle. I mean, i can't deal when Paula is crying?! Its hard to see such a fun and bubbly character break down like that. Alisha's performance was spot on. I really do wish she punched Mia though, I think that would have been great, just to see that heartless b*tch go down. Haha! I'm sure theres still time though. Alex and Rose are slowly creeping up to becoming my favourite couple, but they've shared a lot of dark/hard times together so I'm really looking forward to them having a little fun. That ending... *sad face.* In a way I'm glad he stuck to his guns because, well, she messed up. So I think now its a matter if she wants him back, she has a lot of making up to do. That last line when he says "Get out. Leave. Now" just made me think of-

"Regrets" ReviewFirst of all: MY HEART. IT HURTS. AND YOU. ARE SO, SO, SO EVIL. This episode was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. Part of me was almost glad that there wasn't a previously on -- despite forgetting one or two details from the previous season -- purely because there was so much raw emotion involved that I didn't want to know specifics until they re-entered the storyline. So in an episode that dealt with the immediate aftermath of a shooting, and the life of a main character hanging in the balance, I was expecting nothing short of an "emotional rollercoaster" and it really delivered on that front. The first thing I have to talk about is Alisha. She was really front and centre of this episode -- deservedly so -- and it was watching her breakdown that really served the most emotion of the episode. Lines of action described how heartbreaking it must have been, showing us that she's clearly imagined this future with David and sees this future with him that has quickly been yanked out of her grasp. I think the scene with Mia was what added layers onto the episode, purely because I had forgotten about the cheating fiasco of sequence three that kind of made me sit back and think about what I wanted from this outcome. If David survived, would I want to see him reunited with Alisha? Do I think she deserves David's love anymore? What do I want to see come from all of this? It's hard to remember what went down prior when David's life is hanging on the balance, but it was that scene with Alisha and Mia that kind of conflicted me. Everything Mia said was in fact the truth, and hearing Alisha palm it off as a "mistake" bugged me so, so, so much. Sure, she regrets it. I understand that. But she made an active, conscious choice to be with someone else -- however brief it was -- and so it infuriated me at this point that she's going through this, feeling as though she's lost her future, lost the man she loves, when it wasn't the bullet that could have severed their relationship, but it was actually her "mistake." That was what made the end scene so worth it because this wasn't really about whether or not David lives, it was about whether or not she would get to see him again and in actual fact, she doesn't. He lives to see another day, and with those days, he doesn't want Alisha to play any part in them. I think there's a lot of story left in David, and left in David/Alisha and the conflicts that came out of the last sequence to be explored here and I'm so glad that David wasn't killed because of the potential left in this arc. Part of me doesn't see how David and Alisha will ever or should ever find their way back to one another but at the same time... I don't think I'll be happy seeing them with anyone else. It's going to be a journey for those characters that I'm more than happy about seeing play out this sequence. I would like to see some ownership and responsibility taken on Alisha's part. Instead of referring to what she did as a mistake, she should own it as a choice she made that she regrets making but that's something she has to live with every day of her life, and is no one else's god damn business. See, now I'm mad at Mia again. Seriously, I don't even know what to do with myself. DAMN YOU BRADY! Moving on to the other plot-points of this episode. I enjoyed seeing Paula attempt to shed some light on the moment but when it came time to learning who the shooter was, it was as though that light was drained straight out of her. I don't know if that's setting up the beginning of a much darker Paula -- someone who is down in the dumps and struggling with the not-so-great stuff that happens in life -- or if it's just a genuine reaction to the news and there's a different tone for her (and these other characters as well) for the sequence. But I'm glad that all these characters got to give us some form of reaction to the shooting, and it didn't take away from Alisha's heartbreak, or anyone else's, you know? It was an intense episode, and everyone was sort of crumbling under the events that put David in hospital. I think I'm most interested in a possible PTSD situation for Rose. She seemed really shook up over the shooting. She was talking in fragments, and really struggling and it made me really want to see what happens with her as the sequence plays out. It's kind of hard to get a feel for what the sequence is about with a premiere that effectively deals with the aftermath because those type of episodes generally feel like a finale 2.0, but I'm ridiculously excited about next week's episode, and seeing what else is in store for the season. My only problem with the episode was that while I loved the final scene and how it made sense to include it because of that previous scene with Mia, and because the whole episode dealt with "Is he going to survive or isn't he?" I kind of wish it was saved for next week. It felt like an attached scene at the end that was like: I know you have all these questions so I'm going to answer them right now. But I can't fault it too much because I know how crazy I would be waiting a whole other week to find out David's status. I think it would have worked better if it was a Nurse telling David he has a visitor, and that it was Alisha and he was just like refusing to see her, and so she couldn't even be let in the room to see him. But at the same time, with this being a "break up" of sorts, it was best to have it face to face. I don't know. Either way, a fantastic start to the sequence. Well done, buddy!

I'm sssooooorrrrrryyyy! Yeah, this was definitely an aftermath episode where I didn't want their to be any laughs or chuckles because of the reality of the situation. I wanted to show a range of emotions of how people were reacting to not only David being shot, but with Jace being the shooter. And the epic kung fu battle is next week! I definitely didn't want Paula to be perceived as a goofy character for the entirety of the show, so I totally take the chance of showing some emotion come out of her whenever I can, no matter how heartbreaking it is haha. I tried to base Alisha and Paula's reactions of how I deal with things that happen to me - blaming myself and then attempting to push it on someone else (much like what Alisha did with Mia), so I hope it came off in a realistic approach *cries* David's main arc this sequence is trying to find a life outside of Alisha, because that's all we've really seen with him up until this point. He's going to grow and develop different attributes now that he's distanced himself from her, so it's going to be a really interesting thing to explore. I tried to get this "final" scene with them to be as real and raw as possible, and I'm glad it seems to have come across that way Thanks so much, Chris!! I really appreciate you taking the time to read and review so soon, and I hope 402 returns to the lighthearted Audition that you've come to know and love!

I really try and capitalize on emotional Paula scene, because I fee like it gives her so much more realness and dimensions - I'm sorry it hurts tho! D: Alisha will definitely continue to grow with her mistake, which will lead to more interactions between her and Mia. Alex and Rose will keep developing as well, and their relationship is going to solidify soon! The ending was really hard to write, but it'll lead to brand new, awesome storylines that I hope you enjoy!! Thanks again for the review, Jay!! Also, that video made my entire night. Thank you for that.

LOL, a previously on didn't even enter my mind, so I'm glad you didn't want one! Yeah, this episode was definitely emotional, but it sets up a ton for these next few episodes, stuff that I hope you enjoy When I was writing these scenes, I definitely tried to take experience from mistakes I've made in my past - I immediately begin to take the blame, but when I want to to feel better, I selfishly thrust the blame over to someone else, and that's definitely what Alisha was going here. The scene in the bathroom was an initial reaction of full on sadness and blame, realizing that her entire life has crumbled in front of her all because she kissed another boy, but then as she exits the bathroom she makes a drastic change of pushing the blame onto Mia so that she can do anything to try and take away the hurt and agony that she's feeling. Alisha's arc is really about accepting the blame of what she's done and understanding why David ended things and that she does have a life outside of David's - that she is her own person. I like giving Mia the more harsh voice of actuality in the situation, because it doesn't seem like it would come from her. It's definitely a nice dynamic to write David is also trying to separate himself from Alisha, and his storyline will be about growing away from her and having an arc that doesn't involve her. That's not to say that there won't ever be any David/Alisha scenes again, because there will be in the back half of the sequence, but they're two characters that don't need to be around one another again to grow - in fact, they're growing because they're away from one another. I'M SORRY YOU'RE MAD AT EVERYONE D: It was more of a reaction to learning about it. Paula won't be growing darker, she's definitely never going to lose that bubbly-ness that makes her so special. I feel like I'm about to disappoint the hell out of you lmao, but Rose won't be developing PTSD. I actually really liked that idea whilst planning, but it didn't really fit in. Her reaction, much like Paula's, was much more in the moment. Rose's story, much like S3, is going to be separate from the rest of the main cast, mostly, since her character is the one that explores the side of the music industry. Next week definitely gets back to the regular old Audition It didn't really feel right, for me, to have the end scene wait for next week. It felt more of a pacing issues to have the David/Alisha scene occur next week, especially with next week's storyline and how it would just be extension of the premiere. I don't know if that made any sense LMAO. But I can see what you mean by that, so that's an interesting point of view for me to look at Thank you SOOO much, Jack!! I love reading your reviews because they always bring up such good points.

As I tend to do here on the VPN, I'm dropping in for a random review of Audition episode 4.01 Regrets. Please note when I say random I mean random as in I haven't reviewed any episodes for a long while, not that I haven't read them. I must admit that while Audition isn't necessarily the genre of VS I'd usually read, the webisode format makes it really easy to read episodes whenever you have a little free time on your hands. So yes, I actually read the sequence three final not that long ago so it was fresh in my memory for this episode. One of the main things that stood out in this episode for me was the real shift in tone away from the comedy that is pretty prevalent in most the other episodes, but I guess that's why the series is a dramedy and not just a straight comedy- it allows for you to mix it up like this every now and again. So yeah, kinda an intense episode to start the sequence, a lot of serious emotions flying around from everyone which, as a reader, really makes you sit up and take notice because you get the sense that things are super serious and there may not be a happy outcome. Thankfully there was, or, well, kinda was. It's nice to see David survived (though I honestly thought you were leading us towards a 'he's alive! but the bullet damaged his spine and now he's paralysed' thing) but the episode really didn't end on a happy note so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the next few episodes. Now, this will probably surprise you, but for the first time ever I actually really enjoyed Paula's role in the episode. I've made no secret that I'm not a fan of the slap-sticky over the top kind of character that Paula is, but when you take a lot of that out of the equation I actually like how genuine and kind she is. Probably my favourite part of the episode was when she went to speak with Alisha. Rather than just listening to everyone else telling her to leave it be, she goes straight to where Alisha is hiding and, without infringing on her space and her need to be alone at that point, just lets her know that there are people who care about her and who'll be there for her once she's ready. It was just a really nice part of the script and, like I said, probably my favourite part. Now just a few constructive criticism things. Sorry! You know it wouldn't be a proper MJ review if I didn't suggest some things I thought could be improved on XD First thing would just be to maybe do a little research on certain topics, in this case hospital procedures and news reporting. While most of the hospital stuff was plenty believable and well written, I should point out that when the doctor came out to speak with them I was kinda going 'huh?' because doctors really shouldn't be disclosing the details of a patient to anyone other than the emergency contact or immediate family, especially immediately after surgery. Just a little thing, and because we didn't actually see the scene it's probably not a huge deal but just something I thought you should watch out for. The second major thing was the news report on the television. I noticed that the anchor actually named David, and since this was while David was in surgery I assume it must have been not long after the shooting occurred. Now unless your news station was incredibly dodgy they generally don't release names of people who have been seriously injured or have died in situations like this- at least not right away. This is because the last thing anyone wants is for someone's family to find out via television. Generally the family is contacted by the police and informed that way, after which the media will then release the name. Sometimes they still don't release the name at all because the family would prefer it not to be disclosed, so the fact that it was disclosed by the news anchor so soon is a little unrealistic. In a similar vein to this, saying " Jace Riordan, a casting producer for the film, has been taken into custody and identified by the authorities as the shooter." is seriously bad form for the news anchor and probably the police if they gave him the information. Generally news stations stick to the more ambiguous "a suspect has been taken into custody" or "the man believed to be responsible has been arrested by police". If they do use a name it is 99.9% of the time preceded by 'alleged' due to the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' fair trail thing. You couldn't just outright say he is the shooter unless he's been convicted of it. I know this might seem like trivial stuff to you but trust me, just a little bit of research and making things like this sound as believable as possible can go a long way in making your script that much better. The one other thing that bugged me, and this is potentially more personal than technical, was the ending scene. Partially for the reasons Jack mentioned (feeling like it was a little tacked on) but also because it just seemed really over the top dramatic. It felt like a bit of a dick move for David to call Alisha in, like, a doctor literally went and fetched her for him (not even a nurse, a doctor), just for David to tell her he never wanted to see her again. I felt it would have been more realistic for him to perhaps talk to Alex and get him to pass the message along, or if he was insistent on talking to her himself to not be so melodramatic (I sometimes forget these guys aren't in their mid-teens based on the way they act) and maybe just be a little more mature about the situation. But hey, that's just how I would approached it and maybe something to consider if you want to. Besides that it was a solid episode: some good stuff, some really good stuff, and perhaps some questionable things. Congrats on making it to sequence 4 Brady, I'm sure fans are in for an interesting journey on this one

As I tend to do here on the VPN, I'm dropping in for a random review of Audition episode 4.01 Regrets. Oooh this was a nice surprise to find, MJ! Thank you! Yeah, I definitely try to have the funny episodes and then the more serious episodes. I'm really glad the intensity and severity of the situation came through for you, because that's really what I was going for. It wasn't a happily ever after episode, and it's going to have a lot of repercussions for the remainder of the sequence. That's awesome to hear! Haha. I really try to highlight emotional Paula parts because I do fear that people only see her as the comedy relief of the show, so I thought this was a perfect place to showcase how she reacts. Same goes with her conversation with Alisha. That's great to know that you enjoyed that part so much It was really hard for me to shove a lot of story into this episode. I definitely get that it was a questionable situation with the doctors, but I didn't really have any other way of having everyone know what was going on. Yeah, probably could have gotten more creative with that one, though. Thanks for pointing that out! Yeah, more research was definitely needed on my part, but, again, like I said above, I didn't really have the space with everything was going on. Will try and work on that in future episodes That's fair, but I do have to disagree with you. David, I feel, had every right to call Alisha in how he did, especially with the emotions he was feeling over what had just happened to him and their relationship. She, the person he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with, broke his heart. He was very angry and that point and time and wanted to try and inflict the pain Alisha had sent to him. But yeah, I do appreciate your comments about that! Thanks again, MJ! Really means a lot

"Girls Night" ReviewI was totally not expecting an episode like this to follow the premiere but man am I glad that it did. Audition kind of fell back into it's usual self this week with undertones of the terrible event that shook all the characters up for the beginning of sequence four, and while some characters are still rightfully in a place of despair, things progressed into a nice little hopeful finish in this outing. At the beginning of this episode, the mutual grieving and guilt-sharing between Paula and Alisha was transitioned with comfort food -- one had icecream, and the other had chocolate -- and I kind of wanted that to carry throughout in some odd way so that when we came to David, he would be munching on hospital jello or something of the sort. But I think it was a nice transition to see that the one who is physically hurting, and the one who has been bed-ridden, doesn't get the luxury of decent comfort food and instead he has a nice conversation with Alex to spark some of that old!David behaviour back into our lives. He is seriously one of my favourite characters and I think I'm most excited to see his story arc this sequence -- once he's out of hospital, of course -- because he was such a supporting character to Alisha's story, and development that seeing him bridged away from her makes me really happy and excited to see where you're taking him this sequence. The introduction of his parents is just scratching the surface of that and I can't wait to see what kind of bond he has with his two mums, and if he got any of his geekyness from them -- like was he showered with comics as a child? Was one of his parents a total comic book/star wars geek too? I'm keen on figuring out more about his childhood and how his parents shaped him into who he is now and what kind of impact that they had on shaping him, you know? Maybe he used comics as an escape, and it's not an interest passed down. You know, it's all very exciting and interesting to find. Him referencing fictional characters as having gone through worse things just make me so happy because I'm often doing the same damn thing in my head and I love, love, love Alex's reaction to it all. I'm hoping for more Alex/David scenes in the future. The rest of the episode didn't hold too much development for anyone so much as it was about finding peace and contentment in a terrible situation and absolving themselves of the blame and the guilt they feel. I'm sure it's not the end of Paula and Alisha's guilt, but it was a nice start towards getting better and getting back on their feet. I also liked the subtlety of Rose and her current predicament in facing this reoccurring phone call with no ID. You really got the sense that it might be that producer she slept with and when the episode culminated in the girls night and the drinking game -- which was such a brilliant idea and creative move to have characters reveal their emotional struggles and their problems without seeming forced and vomited out for the audience to latch onto -- we got to see Rose come to terms with what she has done, and we got to see Paula, and Alisha, and Judy really admit to themselves what has been eating at them. I think it was a nice way to show progression in these strong women. One of my initial problems with Alisha coming out of her storyline last year and into the fourth sequence premiere was her lack of taking responsibility for her role in what happened -- palming it off as a mistake or what have you -- and by coming out and saying "I cheated on my boyfriend" as a simple fact just meant so much because it felt like the first big step towards facing what she's done, growing from it, and moving on, you know? I kind of saw that in all those four characters. All in all, it was a really strong episode. At first glance, not a whole great deal happened in developing certain storylines coming out of the sequence four premiere and I'm still a little curious as to what the direction of the sequence will be but reaching that final scene of the episode -- the actual girls night -- it really put a nice little bookend towards what could be a three-parter (S3 finale, S4E01+E02). I'm still obsessing over how damn creative it was using a drinking game to get so much out of these characters in such few lines of dialogue. I think that was completely brilliant and without that scene and without that game, I think this episode would have been received differently from me. There was just so much pay-off at the end that I really appreciated, so another fantastic episode, man!

Audition kind of fell back into it's usual self this week with undertones of the terrible event that shook all the characters up for the beginning of sequence four, and while some characters are still rightfully in a place of despair, things progressed into a nice little hopeful finish in this outing. Yeah, this episode definitely returned to the roots of the series. I really wanted to try and lighten up the mood, while steal have these characters deal with this traumatic experience that very recently occurred. That's probably the hardest thing for me when writing - finding the balance between comedy and drama. Glad it seemed to pay off though Hahaha, that would have been a nice triple parallel. The main thing I wanted for David in the episode was begin his own arc, separate from Alisha like you said. He's coming to terms with a life without her, a life he physically chose when he told Alisha he never wanted to see her again. No matter what happens to him, he's always be the way he was since he was introduced and always try and relate everything to something comic book related, haha! Shannon and Mei will very much be minor characters for the first half of the sequence, as well as their backstory with David. There's actually an explanation for why David likes comics so much, but it sadly won't come until the next half! *cries* I'm just really glad you love David so much. Yeah, this was really an episode of attempting to come to terms with a lot of things that happened last sequence. This really marked the beginning of Alisha accepting what she's done and having to deal with the ramifications of it, which will be focused on heavily in the next episode. Thank you so much for the girls night compliment! Haha. I was afraid it would come off as irrelevant, so that really means a lot. I thought it was a natural progression, especially having Judy involved. I'm just so happy about this haha. Thank you sooooo much! I love that you take some time to review the episodes so soon after they're released. I'm really excited for this sequence and its storylines - they're not going to be as quick as the previous sequences because of the increase in episodes, but I think they'll definitely have a nice payoff. I'm so happy this episode came off well for you, and it has me excited to see what you think of the next episode, which is pretty much a part 2 of this one

4.02 - "Girls Night" - REVIEWAlright, we're back again. After the premiere hit so many emotional beats, I didn't expect episode two to be as light as it was. I liked that even though we got some of the lighter, more humorous tones that we all know and love, you were still able to expand upon everyone was going through in the premiere; and is still going through. I liked that the characters aren't just over all of their problems a few days later. We're seeing some natural progression at work. You start us off with Paula, who's still pretty hurt. Understandable. But we get to see her smile in this episode! So that's a plus. And then Alisha, going through some of the same things as Paula. I liked the parallel with those two. And them both having someone (Judy and Rose) taking care of them. I loved both of those opening scenes. It's nice to see Rose and Alisha interacting on their own. I'm reviewing this while reading and reviewing sequence two, back when the beginning of their relationship was a bit strained and awkward. So, it's interesting reading them now versus then. And then both duos coming together for an epic 'Girls Night' - HAHA! Just lovely. I love when female characters interact, and this episode was great for that. The drinking game they played was a nice way to follow up on what they're going through. Alisha finally saying she cheated on her boyfriend and owning up to it. I'm excited to see where you take her this sequence. And onto the David and Alex scene. I just love those two together. They're probably one of, if not my favorite friendship on Audition. There are soo many of them. Wow. Just thinking about it now. The callback to the whole Batman and Robin thing just made me scream. Loved that! I'm really interested in David's arc this sequence as well. And we get a little snippet of David's parents. I'd really like to see more of them! Hopefully you'll be able to explore their characters and their relationship with David and each other more, if not this sequence, then future sequences. GOD this review is all over the place, I know. No Michael this episode! *Sad face* Looking forward to next week so we can see what some of the other characters are up to. Really nice episode, Brady! Had a lot of fun reading it.

I really tried to keep this episode dealing with the traumatic things that had happened in the past episodes and sequence, while still offering the light heartedness that so many people enjoy in this series. So i'm definitely glad it seemed to have payed off I liked writing the parallel between Paula and Alisha, because they're going through very similar situations (the "loss" of their partner and blaming themselves for it) but they've gone through it in a very different way. I love interacting them with Judy and Rose as much as I can, and bringing all four of them together to try and work out their problems seemed like the way to go for me. It also was a way of Alisha beginning to accept what she's done, and that's something that plays a huge part in the next episode. Yes! I love writing them! They're definitely going to be interacting a lot more in the second half of the sequence, because Alex really needs to be there for Alisha at this point in time. Same for Shannon and Mei, who will start appearing a lot more when David's story arc starts to take the forefront. This was perfection. *accidentally talked about David's parents above* but thank you SO MUCH, CHRIS! I always love hearing your thoughts!
