CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT - ANDREW ZAHIR
As the series premiere of SCREENWRITERS PARADISE draws nearer, producers have decided to release exclusive interviews with the cast of the upcoming dramedy webisode series. First up is series lead, Manish Dayal, who will be playing the role of "Andrew Zahir," an aspiring script writer who can't seem to shake his writer's block. VSGUIDE: Hey Manish! First off, can you give us a little insight into the show? MANISH: At its core, Screenwriters Paradise is about a group of friends, trying to find success and happiness in the treacherous city of Los Angeles. Even though "screenwriter" is in the title, the writers are really showing more than one side of the film and television industry. We get the producers standpoint from Emily. We have an actors point of view through Shawn's character. Even though Troy is working as an assistant, he has dreams of becoming a director. It's a very diverse show about all these people, building a kind of network or "clique" with each other. VSGUIDE: And your character? How does he fit into this group? MANISH: Andrew is kind of the voice of reason in a lot of ways. With people like Joshua and Emily, who have such big, out-there personalities, its good to have someone around who's pretty level headed and doesn't get excited too easily. He's just a really sweet, genuine guy that would pretty much go to hell and back for his friends. VSGUIDE: What are you most looking forward for people to see about Andrew and his relationship with Joshua? MANISH: It's a really passionate, down to earth relationship between those two. It's nice to see a friendship between two men who aren't afraid to be tender with one another. The world is so full of hyper-masculinity, and their relationship kind of goes against those ideals. Also, I'm looking forward to people just seeing their back and forth wit. Joshua is very sarcastic and has a loud sense of humor, while Andrew is more reserve and dry. They balance each other out pretty well. VSGUIDE: What are our two leads trying to accomplish over the course of these first six episodes? MANISH: They're very much trying to get their foot in the door in the first half of the season. They're new to the scene, they don't know anybody, and in just a few days, they meet a pretty popular actor [Shawn], who they see as their ticket into the industry. We really get to see the boring, not-so glamorous side of Hollywood with this series. VSGUIDE: What’s been your favorite episode to shoot thus far? MANISH: I think the third episode was really fun because it was the first time the whole cast was together. Not everyone was able to interact with each other, but we were all there in one location. The entire episode is a big party scene and it introduces one of the biggest surprises of the season so, I'm looking forward to seeing people's reactions. VSGUIDE: Can you give us a little insight on how Andrew and Joshua will be interacting with other characters - specifically Emily and Shawn? MANISH: Andrew hits it off with Emily almost instantly. They're both very pragmatic people, and have a mutual respect and love for their city. And Joshua... well, he's not the easiest person to be friends with, if I'm being honest. Andrew's grown up with him so it's easy for him, but for everyone else? Not so much. Him and Shawn don't care for each other very much, at first, but their relationship definitely grows with time. VSGUIDE: Earlier reports hinted at a shared past between your character and Freya Malek. Can you tell us anything about those two? MANISH: Yes, they do have a pretty interesting past. I can't reveal much more than that. But I'll tell you that it's most likely not what you expect. VSGUIDE: Fair enough! That's all for now. But be on the look out for more interviews like this one in the coming weeks. SCREENWRITERS PARADISE premieres Thursday, July 23rd 2015, only on The VPN!

AAAHHH!! I'm so excited for this show, man. Oh my God. I already love Andrew from what I've been able to see you write of him. He's such a nice contrast to Joshua's craziness, and is all around an awesome, genuine dude. I'm already so obsessed with their relationship even if I've barely even scratched the surface of it. I'm interested to see how he interacts with Emily mostly, especially if they hit it off. They have the potential to play really nice off of one another, and that has me super excited. Episode three sounds absolutely insane - a party with everyone there? Oh my God. It's going to be hilarious, I can already tell. This show is dealing with such a different side of Hollywood, as opposed to Audition, and I'm thrilled for people to see your take on it. Freya is such an intriguing character for me. All we know is she's from Andrew's past, and that's enough for me. I'm so interested in the mystery surrounding her and her relationship with him. Basically, I'm so pumped. I cannot wait until this show premieres, and I cannot wait for people to meet your amazing characters in next week's crossover.

CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT - JOSHUA LAWSON
With the series premiere of SCREENWRITERS PARADISE under a week away, producers have decided to release exclusive interviews with the cast of the upcoming dramedy webisode series. This time around we have is co-series lead, Matt Cohen, who will be playing the role of "Joshua Lawson," a clever, rudely sarcastic thrill-seeker and aspiring screenwriter with a heart of gold.
VSGUIDE: Hey Matt! First thing's first - what can you tell us about your character? What kind of guy is he?
MATT: [Joshua] is a pretty interesting dude. He's really witty and sarcastic. One thing I love about him is his lack of a filter. He just blurts stuff out without really considering the consequences or how the people around him might feel. It gets him into trouble sometimes, but it's pretty entertaining.
VSGUIDE: Joshua is said to be a very sexually active character. Will that affect any possible relationships he will be involved in as the series progresses?
MATT: He is a very sexual person. I wonder if he's a sex addict... that'd be interesting to play. [laughs] But yeah, his sexual nature is definitely something that affects his relationships. One of the main relationships, besides the one between my character and Andrew's character, is the developing relationship between Joshua and Troy. You know how a lot of relationships start off slow; a little light flirting, a few dates, then you get to sex. Well, those two guys kind of go straight into the sex and it definitely creates some conflict. Josuha's not the kind of guy that likes to settle down, and Troy may or may not be the one to change that. We'll have to wait and see.
VSGUIDE: So, Joshua will be having a male love interest. What can you tell us about his sexuality?
MATT: I know he likes both men and women. I don't think he's gotten around to discovering what that means. Whether it means he's bisexual or pansexual, or something in-between, it's definitely a journey his character is going to take.
VSGUIDE: With Joshua’s extroverted nature, will he cause any rifts with any characters?
MATT: Oh yeah. There's something about a person that's always expressing themselves so outwardly that might be a little off-putting to some. And refreshing to others. But I think Shawn is one of the people that doesn't like it very much. Even though he plays the role of a super star and has always been in the spotlight, he's more quiet and introverted when behind closed doors. A bit like Andrew, but I think even more so. And we'll see how much Josh's personality affects him, for better or for worse.
VSGUIDE: What can you tell about Joshua's relationship with Andrew? Your co-star said it was very heartfelt and passionate.
MATT: It definitely is. Those two have probably been best friends for as long as they can remember. We'll definitely see its a bond that goes deeper than friendship. I think its safe to say that they are the most important people in each others lives. They accept one another for who they are and are really dependent on each other, which may prove to be a not so good thing later down the line, but we'll see.
VSGUIDE: Ooh, does that mean there will be some conflict between those two?
MATT: I think all relationships, no matter how strong they are, go through their rough spots. It's natural and its human, and sometimes it means the end of a relationship, and other times it can bring two people closer together. I think with Joshua and Andrew, they'll open their friendship up to conflict by questioning what they really want out of life, and maybe finding out their paths aren't as aligned as they once thought. And that'll scare them more than anything.
VSGUIDE: What’s been your favorite episode to shoot thus far?
MATT: Episode four was a lot of fun. My character kind of takes Andrew through what happened the night before, after he got drunk out of his mind. And it's mostly flashbacks, but we get to explore a few relationships, like the one between Joshua and Troy, and the relationship between Andrew and Freya, which I'm sure will be a highlight. I got to get a little sexy too, so that was fun for me and Nick. Kinda awkward, but we're both professionals. [laughs]
VSGUIDE: And there you have it! Stay tuned for more cast interviews in the days leading up to the premiere. SCREENWRITERS PARADISE is set to launch this Thursday, July 23rd 2015, only on The VPN!

CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT - EMILY MOORE
With the series premiere of SCREENWRITERS PARADISE under a week away, producers have decided to release exclusive interviews with the cast of the upcoming dramedy webisode series. Next up is Sharon Leal, who will play the role of "Emily Moore," a failing agent for a high profile television producer, hoping to find the next big talent in the city of Los Angeles.
VSGUIDE: Hey Sharon! Why don't you start by telling us a little bit about the character you play and what you enjoy most about her.
SHARON: I play a woman named Emily Moore. She's an agent working for this no-good, sexist, pitiful man at one of the major TV networks, and she's usually great at her job but lately, things haven't been going well for her. She's very headstrong and opinionated but she has a softer side you'll get to see a little later in the series. I think that's actually what I enjoy most about playing her. She's so three-dimensional and has layers upon layers that even she's not aware of yet.
VSGUIDE: And what role does Emily play within the group?
SHARON: She's a bit of an wildcard, really. I think, originally, her character was more of a necessity. Someone with connections that was able to drive the story forward more quickly, but over a period of time she becomes a real integral part of the group. Her life gets sort of infused with Andrew and Joshua, probably not willingly.
VSGUIDE: What state is Emily in when we meet her?
SHARON: Well, in the backdoor pilot on "Audition," she really seemed sure of herself, didn't she? Like a woman with her whole life figured out. But we get to do a bit more exploring and come to find that might not be the case, entirely. She's having a hard time at work, her personal life is a mess. I can't wait for people to really see her struggle and hopeful rise once the series gets started.
VSGUIDE: One of your co-stars said Emily and Andrew's character have a nice relationship. What can you tell us about that?
SHARON: I love their friendship, honestly. It's almost like I'm playing a big sister. Someone he can go to for advice, but also someone who can make his life a living hell. I think the good thing about their relationship is how give and take it is. It's not a one sided thing, they're both there for each other and they both have this understanding that's quite different from other dynamics on the show. It's been a lot of fun to explore.
VSGUIDE: How about the other characters? What does Emily make of them?
SHARON: Early on, Emily spends most of her time with her personal assistant, Troy, who is such a fun character. He's probably the only one who doesn't take her sh*t, and being the only one who probably should since he works for her, its really telling of how much she cares for him since she hasn't fired him yet. Some of the things he gets away with are insane. I know if I talked to any of my bosses the way he talks to Emily, I'd be canned in two seconds flat. [laughs] Also, an interesting storyline between Emily and Shawn might be coming up soon. I don't know all the details yet, but I think it'll add a lot of drama to the show.
VSGUIDE: What’s been your favorite episode to shoot thus far?
SHARON: I don't mean to sound self-obsessed, but I think I'm gonna go with episode five. It gives you more insight into Emily's character, what her home life is like and who her friends are. I think the producers were able to reveal a few new characters coming to the show not too long ago, and I'm really excited about that. Also, its the episode that really takes the group dynamic to new heights.
VSGUIDE: And there you have it! Stay tuned for more cast interviews in the days leading up to the premiere. SCREENWRITERS PARADISE is set to launch this Thursday, July 23rd 2015, only on The VPN!
