Episode #4-17: "Destiny" Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 26/04/2017 - Producers told VSGuide that Chloe's (Allison Mack) destiny is finally and very carefully explained, and will feature key flashbacks to fill in the pieces of the puzzle. "It's something we've known for a long time but wasn't something we wanted to reveal until we were closer to the finish line," the 'Watchtower' creator acknowledged, "We're excited to tell the story of why Chloe Sullivan exists." - The Legion Ring will play a key role in the episode, with time travel being a key component of the episode. - This marks the final episode for Annette O'Toole in Season 4. The actress was signed to three episodes — this being her third — and will be back as Martha Kent for some "closure" that is said to be found in a familiar place. - Kristen Bell reprises her role as Hope Sullivan (from the future). - Audiences will meet a Young Maxwell Lord, and his father of the same name. - The little boy featured at the end of 'Smallville,' in a flash-forward of Chloe's future, will finally be revealed. Audiences will come to know who his parents are, and what his name is, and he is expected to play a role in the last stretch of episodes for Season 4. - Dinah (Alaina Huffman) has something shocking to tell Oliver (Justin Hartley), days before their planned wedding. "They've had a lot to adapt to in the past few months, and this is one more thing that could test their relationship," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide. "It has a lot to do with their future and their life together." - Serinda Swan will return as Zatanna and share a scene alongside Allison Mack's Chloe. Producers described it as a "pivotal moment" that has everything to do with the warning she gave Chloe at the beginning of the season. - The identity of Doctor Fate is revealed in this episode. - One character, who was thought to be deceased, will make a surprise and completely unexpected return at episode's end as a result of the time-travel tactics used throughout the episode.

Jack in 4x17 we know who Chloe's husband? and adout I memeber what you promise real meet Clark Lois and Lana)) No, we won't know who Chloe married until the Season Finale. And I have absolutely no idea right now who that could be. It'll be a reveal that comes from jumping to the future rather than a development we see in the present as Chloe isn't in any kind of relationship to warrant a proposal and then a wedding in these last four episodes that I'm writing now (which is not to spoil anything about her relationship with Jason, but they're a new relationship that is nowhere near proposal territory). There are scenes between Clark, Lois and Lana in episode 16, 'Smallville.' I just can't say whether it's in the present or not. Things aren't looking too great for Lana at the end of 412, and 413 explores a lot in regards to the suit and its deteriorating effect on her. I'm not going to spoil anything in the meantime. But again, 413 and the episode that follows after it, are ones you'll want to check out to see what happens to Lana after the pretty shocking cliffhanger in 412

I'm writing 419 'Remnants' and there's a scene where Dinah has to borrow clothes from *spoiler* and doesn't have access to her suit, and it felt like a great opportunity to introduce the "Rebirth" casual design, and despite being the worst at photoshop, I tried to make something to visualise it and here's some eye blood for you:

Jack! in smallville finale in scene with boy we see engagement ring! I know What I was saying about the engagement ring / wedding band is that Chloe's in no kind of a relationship (whether it's with Jason, or rekindling anything with Oliver) to be engaged/married in the present. With Jason, they're still figuring things out and are in the early stages of a relationship, and with Oliver, he's getting ready to marry Dinah and has only just learned about Chloe existing. We will find out who Chloe married at the end of Season 4 when we time-jump to 2018

Wow) why episode 4x13 ending?) Will Lana Alive or not we will know later? The episode was about answering the question: "Can we remove the suit?" Once it was answered, I felt like the episode and its purpose was finished. Next week's episode will provide answers about the two big cliffhangers from this episode

Lana Alive) Now she Human) She stay with Chloe in last episodes Season or Gone from Gotam? Lana is sticking around. There's more story to tell. Essentially what I wanted to do with the character was explore what happiness looked like for her. While she was empowered at the end of 'Smallville' with literal powers, she still began and ended the series as a victim — first, with the meteor shower that killed her parents, and then with the suit. This first half of the season mirrored that journey and mirrored that role the character has been in her entire life. I wanted the suit to be a shell for it all. And so taking away the suit is freeing in many ways, and now we'll get to see her "choosing to be happy" and explore what that looks like for her going forward. Lana and Steve seem to have overcome their hurdle. There's a lot more development coming up for them, and I think episode fifteen, 'Cavalry' has my favourite Steve/Lana moment from the season so far. Beyond all of that, there's going to be some more aspects of Lana's past, prior to Watchtower but post-Smallville, that gets filled in during episode 16, 'Smallville.' I'm particularly excited for her interactions with Pete in that episode. And there's just a lot of good things coming up for her. She's not going anywhere anytime soon so hopefully you enjoy what's coming up! Unfortunately, there is still a big death this season. I still don't want to say when it is because it keeps the suspense going. But definitely soak up the happy while things are still happy. As for next week's episode, it's a big one. It feels like a finale in a way because it is the resolution for some of the season's key storylines, and there's a lot of action involved, too. You're obviously a big fan of Lana, and while I won't lie and say she's a huge part of the episode (because she kind of sits this one out), there's a key moment for her in the episode that relates to her relationship with Steve, and relates to her future.

Unfortunately, there is still a big death this season. I still don't want to say when it is because it keeps the suspense going. But definitely soak up the happy while things are still happy. I honestly thought that was IT for Vicki at one point after reading " Extract". Given that she wasn't mentioned in the synopsis for " Ghosts" and that Lucius was described as 'guilt-ridden' or something to that affect, I honestly believed you might be pulling the plug on my second favourite blonde reporter/superhero sidekick. Not to mention what the affect on Bruce would have been. Seeing another woman he loved die... well, let's just say I'm glad he's not going down that road again... for the moment, anyway! At some point, I will do some proper reviews of the whole season, but this episode really got to me, so I just wanted to say; a) yay! I'm glad Vicki's not dead! b) aww! Selina's goodbye was just so sweet, and to see her happy, if a tad bittersweet, with her new man was heartening. c) I was a little surprised you killed off Yin back in S3, but I liked how the episode revisited that moment, and the conflict Ethan had over it, not to mention his own bittersweet goodbye to Vicki as destiny/fate/whatever came full circle for him. d) seeing Ollie finally put his distrust of Chloe aside, and seeing them not only work together but come close to something akin to being good friends, it gave me a little glowy feeling e) Helena. Simply that. I've never been a 'Brady' level fun of Helena, she was always just that little too 'dark' for me, especially during her suicidal quest in S3. That was part of why I hoped she'd stay dead, and maybe find some peace. But it finally felt like she was coming out of a dark tunnel in this episode. Bravo on the way you addressed not just how Kate's depature affected her, but also her PTSD as a whole. Bring on " Cavalry"! Looking forward to that, if not the indefinite hiatus after it...

I tried to be quite sneaky with the episode descriptions. With Lana being seen as the one to die, especially with the possibility of that happening in 'Extract,' I made sure not to mention her in episode 14 and episode 15. Didn't want to give anything away! The moment between Vicki and Maxwell Lord in 'Extract' was a powerful scene to write because they had developed this subtle feud since their encounter in episode 3, 'Damaged.' I wanted Vicki to learn from her mistakes of going after the big bad unprepared and unarmed, like she did in Season 3 with Hush, because last time it cost her Mitchell, her fiance, and so it triggered this response of leaving the Gazette, and getting out of that bubble of danger with Maxwell Lord being there. Sadly, it didn't get her quite out of the line of fire. But she survived the attack. As for Bruce, he has lost too many people he loved. That was something I wanted to explore in 'Kin' where he talks about losing Vesper Fairchild, and Selina Kyle and Talia Al Ghul. So this whole experience is pretty eye-opening to him. I think he has a tendency to hide his feelings, and distance himself, so what's this does is allow him to embrace what he is feeling and to act on it quicker. I'm excited for where this takes the Bruce/Vicki relationship, and where it takes them as characters, too! Any review is fine. I appreciate this just as much. It was nice to wake up to this morning a — Vicki is one of my favourite characters to write on the show. It's nice to see people aren't glad she almost died, haha. There's a lot of exciting things coming up for her, and one thing in particular is that we've seen her quit her job at the Gazette to go out and do this on her own, and she has a pretty great "first story" that I'm excited to reveal! Right now, she needs to recover. b — I love bringing Selina back. Something I wanted to do last season was explore the 'nine-lives' more than I got the chance to, because last season all I got to do with it was basically prove that she does have "nine-lives." This time, I got to explore some mythology behind it and tie it into childbirth and while there is some tragedy behind this particular farewell, I felt it was important to see that she does have a great guy in her life, and she is in a really healthy, strong relationship. She deserves to be happy. c — The original intention was never to kill Yin. I still hate myself for it. But what ended up happening was that the story unravelled itself, and it made sense for Ethan to kill her, and for that to be what triggers that early perception of his character which resulted in him being isolated from Vicki and everyone else so that Hush could approach him and prey on that weakness and that rejection and trigger a journey to becoming Clayface. I always wanted to finish the story out, and this episode presented the opportunity to do so. I'm glad it was viewed well. The main scene I had pictured for it was him sort of saying that goodbye and explaining his actions, and then when Vicki woke up, he shape-shifts into a nurse because he can't really face her and face that rejection again. d — Vicki has always been the one for people to lean on during this season. So with her out of the picture temporarily, I wanted to see who could fill those shoes and it just seemed like Oliver was the perfect candidate. I really enjoyed writing his scenes with Lucius, but like you said, there's that development between him and Chloe. I think what went down in episode 12 really pushed them together. There's a lot more coming up for them, so hopefully some more "glowy" feelings! e — Yeah, I wanted Helena's journey to get as dark is it could in Season 3 and then for this season to offer her and her world some light. I think recognising that her relationship with Lisa wasn't healthy was a huge step forward for her. Part of her relationship with Katherine this season is about identifying good relationships and identifying what love is and what it should feel like, and it's triggered that revelation in her. I've also had fun investing in dynamics from Birds of Prey — it's been fun seeing Kate Spencer be a mentor figure for her, and I wanted her departure to have an impact on Helena because she was leaning so hard on her to offer her that balance and control. Ultimately, she had to figure things out on her own, and that's what she did. I appreciate the kudos on her arc! I'm really excited for this episode. It's a big one! Thanks for the review, Alex
