so, by process of elimination, you've written "Remnants" (4x19), and you've just got "Paradise", "Trinity" and "Checkmate" to go..? Lordie, I cannot wait for more "Paradise" spoilers, not to mention anything to do with "Trinity"!! I'm more excited to see Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman coming together for the first time then the finale - not to mention, whatever episode it happens in, how you restore Clark's powers!!

so, by process of elimination, you've written "Remnants" (4x19), and you've just got "Paradise", "Trinity" and "Checkmate" to go..? Yep. I'm taking a little break before I write the final three, but those are going to be some great episodes to end the season on. Everything kind of kicks into "finale" gear from about episode 17 onwards, so it's been pretty intense so far. I think I want to read some Wonder Woman comics, and some Batman/Superman ones in the meantime. I want my version of Wonder Woman to be as awesome as she can be, and I want "Trinity" to live up to the hype. Yeah, I tend to post more spoilers when I'm writing the episodes. So expect some "Paradise" ones soon! The answer to restoring Clark's powers will be a story told in 416/417. I've been really happy with his storyline this season. I think it's been interesting to see him struggle with the fact that he spent his whole life moving towards this destiny, and moving towards becoming this person, only to see him go a million steps backwards and start from scratch. His story parallels Chloe in a huge way during those episodes, and they're both a little lost. It was nice to write some more Chloe/Clark stuff, and hopefully the story of restoring his powers is an unexpected one!

Exclusive: New Heroes Join The Fight Against Checkmate When Vixen and The Atom Arrive On 'Watchtower' Season 4!
Looks like Wonder Woman isn't the only hero joining the fight against Checkmate in the final few episodes of 'Watchtower' Season 4. VSGuide has learned that actress Meagan Good and actor Ross Buttler will join the reoccurring guest cast for the final three episodes of the season as iconic DC Comic characters Mari McCabe / Vixen and Ryan Choi / The Atom. Series creator Jack Malone was quick to discuss the news, and give fans a greater understanding of what they can expect from the final episodes of the season.
"I began the season with an interest to see as many Birds of Prey members that the show could explore, and hopefully stitch something together in an effort to complete a story that began in [Season 1]," the 'Watchtower' creator revealed, confirming it was the reason Kate Spencer and Zinda Blake joined the show, "I feel very strongly about Vixen being the final piece of that particular puzzle, and I couldn't be more excited about introducing her in [episode twenty]." Mari McCabe, better known as Vixen, is a comic book character that has worked alongside the Birds of Prey and the Justice League, whose power comes from a totem that allows her to channel the strength and skill of the animal kingdom. Malone told VSGuide that when audiences first meet Vixen, she's a hero in Detroit who shares a brief history with Chloe and she's summoned to help join the fight against Checkmate. "The Watchtower database has been expanding and growing and changing throughout the past four seasons, and it's finally used to call all the heroes for support and Vixen is obviously one of them," Malone said of the character's introduction, "We're definitely finding her at her prime and she's going to be a huge asset for our heroes in the coming war."
The second addition to the roster comes with Ross Buttler joining the cast as Ryan Choi, better known as The Atom. In the comics, Ryan is a protegee of Ray Palmer who becomes The Atom when Palmer goes missing. And most of that will translate to the show, with one exception. "Our version of the character is a little more youthful and reckless and he steps into the role of The Atom prematurely to prove himself worthy of the mantle," the 'Watchtower' creator teased, confirming that Ray Palmer is "safe and sound" in this universe. As for why he didn't opt for Ray to surface as The Atom, Malone told VSGuide that there was something more exciting about an amateur hero joining a fight full of professionals. "I think his lack of experience in the field makes for an interesting juxtaposition and helps define the character against the rest of the heroes," Malone acknowledged, noting a comedic purpose behind the character's addition to the show, "Ryan will bring a lot of light into a very dark situation and the last few episodes of this season really need it."
But wait, there's more! Malone went on to reveal that while Ray Palmer "probably" won't show up alongside his protegee, his past with Chloe will be acknowledged. "There was a line in [Season 10] of Smallville where Chloe said she met a billionaire with high tech toys and a wondrous woman that could through Clark for a loop," Malone reminded, "We learn in [episode 20] that Diana is the wondrous woman and Ray Palmer is the billionaire with high tech toys."
Despite the great news, one has to ask: what's with all the heroes coming in to save the day?
"I wanted [Season 4] to celebrate the mission that was started in [Season 1] with Chloe and Oliver, and that grew to include Helena and Bruce, then Vicki and Gordon. Along the way, there's been so many heroes they've come across, and there's something special about bringing them back in these last handful of episodes." And while Malone promised that there are a handful of returning favourites yet to be announced, "The story and the resolution of our season-long conflict will always fall back on our main characters. As great as it will be to see Wonder Woman and Superman and Vixen and all these great heroes to step into the ring, we always fall back on Chloe and those around her."
As for who might be coming back into the fold, let us know some of your favourites! Could Speedy be coming back? What about Nightwing or even the Wonder Twins? Take your best guess below and stay tuned for more announcements!

You'll have to wait and see And thanks! I'm excited about writing these two characters. Vixen is such a total badass, and I'm about to write her first scene now, and Ryan is going to be a lot of fun. I can just picture him flailing around in the war, and accidentally kicking so much ass. Hopefully what they do contribute to their episodes will be enjoyed!

Just finished "Calvary" and quite frankly, ive got alot of questions. But they are all being shelved for the fact that Chloe and Jason get a second chance. I knew that Chloe needed a chance to move on, and I'm glad youve pushed them together Although, i am saddened about Hope not having Chloe right now. Also, I cant wait for it to come out that Chloe isnt dead. And considering her track record with faking her death, I cant wait to see this come about. I also love how Lana missed that little reveal.

I look forward to your questions! The first episode back from hiatus really explores Chloe and Jason outside of Gotham. I think they're struggling to fit into each other's worlds back in Gotham, and so this trip to Smallville is a second chance for them. They have some really nice scenes in that first episode back, and I think examining that relationship through a different lens allows it to grow a little more than it could under the current climate of 'Watchtower.' As for Chloe making everyone believe she didn't make it out, I will say that you don't have to wait too long for the truth to come out. And speaking of Lana, she will be attending the High School Reunion so it's assumed she'll figure the truth out pretty soon! Thanks for the quick feedback. Again, I look forward to your questions. They're always fun to answer, and I can now talk about things that happen in the next 5 episodes! So fire away

I have to admit, "Cavalry" rocked! I had to go to work today, but due to some house-hold issues, finished a lot earlier, then planned, so dived into it the second I got home! All in all, especially the ending, it read like a Season Finale, with an ending setting up the next season, so I'm wondering just how you'll top that in the ACTUAL season finale! I was actually really disturbed just how how well you executed Dark!Chloe - the scene with Lord's mother, and the way it all came together - whoa! Dark doesn't begin to describe it. It makes sense she would leave her pseudo-team, her family, behind, because she knew she couldn't do what needed to be done without them. I liked the glimpse of the Chloe/Lucius dynamic - it's not a relationship I feel we've seen much off, they've more or less been involved in their own storylines, only coming together at the big group moments. In a way, it was nice to see there was that connection, but also it makes sense she would have Lucius be the one to tell the lie, because she knows him the least. Seeing the Squad work together was as brilliant as I hoped - the addition of Harley gave it a very DCEU-vibe to it, and I loved the casting of "Vampire Diaries" alum Zach Roerig as Rick Flagg Jr.! I don't know about anyone else, but I'd pretty much twigged the identity of who the 'Arkham Knight' would be, in the context of the way a certain character's arc had gone, and what you, Jack, had teased. I loved the reveal about Steve's grandfather, I thought that was a nice sweet little tip-of-the-hat to the coming film, the "Wonder Woman" TV series and the "Justice League" animated show - I look forward to seeing some Diana/Steve interactions when she finally appears. I did roll my eyes a bit at Steve calling Lana his 'wonder woman' but it was a nice romantic moment as well. Was blind-sided by the reveal of who Janice Porter really is - that caught me totally out of left-field, dude! Also, loved the inclusion of Hamilton Hill. I know he was in the animated series, but was he in the comics as well? Also, since we're exploring Cassie Cain's background, and we've now met David Cain, will we eventually meet the formidable Lady Shiva? One little quibble - and it's more of an editting error then a plot point - but Cupid/Sarah Rafferty is not creditted in the guest cast. The Black King is no more... Long live the White Queen.

Thanks. It definitely felt like a finale when I was writing it. This is the development that I was most frightened about but I feel like the show has flirted with it for so long. With Chloe making this deal with Waller, and understanding that she has to leave everything behind, I think it pushed her to make a decision that she wouldn't have otherwise made and she saw herself as a martyr in a different sense to how we've seen her play that role in seasons past — this time sacrificing her soul rather than her life. It also puts her in a really nice position for the first episode back and calls for a walk down memory lane. Thanks! That's exactly why it had to be him. I don't think anyone else would have taken her shit, haha. I also feel like this season for Lucius is all about understanding the hardships of being a hero and what price there is to pay. It's like a masterclass for him, and what he's learned so far allows him to accept Chloe's premise and allows him to understand the kind of sacrifice she's making for everyone. It makes it easier for him to come back to the team and lie for her. Rick Flagg Jr was a lot of fun to write because of the sheer fact that Hope Sullivan (from an aborted timeline) killed his father. I felt like narrowing in on that made him quite distinct from the rest of the Suicide Squad and a great character to lead the Squad. Once I got to this episode, I realised there was a huge challenge in trying to juggle all these characters so finding those key differences and key attributes and trying to reel them to the surface made it feel like I could have the characters shine in a way and hopefully that was achieved. As for Arkham Knight, it was never really meant to be a mystery. I just didn't want to throw the name out there in case people haven't read what had happened to Jimmy so far in the season. I mean, we saw in episode 10, titled 'Kin' that he had been recruited, so it wasn't supposed to shock anyone. I just wanted him to be masked for the episode so that when Chloe found out who was under the mask... it was like an emotional gut-punch. The arc started with her vowing to keep him safe, and she just learned that she didn't and she failed. So it was another blow for her at the conclusion of this particular story. But I do love the idea of The Red Hood Gang being established in the world of 'Watchtower' and Arkham Knight being an agent of Waller. Maybe both will return one day As my mother would say, "I don't have this much cheese on my pizza." Ha! The truth is -- this moment is a lot more meaningful than it might appear to be. I think one of the big questions around Lana/Steve is whether or not it's another doomed relationship in the same way that Lana and Clark were never meant to be together. This moment basically eliminates the idea that Steve has to end up with Diana because that story was between her and his grandfather, and maybe Lana is his Wonder Woman. It's nice to see a weight lifted off the two and to be able to explore them without that expected sense that they aren't going to last. I think it elevates things for them and raises the stakes going into the back end of the season. So while a very *eye roll* kind of moment, it's a pretty big one, nonetheless Janice Porter has been so fun to write, oh my god. I thought it would be a good twist to have this arc tie into Maxwell Lord and the central plot of the season. When I was looking at how she's been around all this time and how she's clinging for power and wants all this control... it made it easy to figure out that she has some sort of connection to Maxwell Lord. There's definitely more of her in the next few episodes, and I'm excited for the moment when the larger plan -- the bigger picture -- is unearthed. In terms of Hamilton Hill, he is in the comics but I personally know the character from the animated series, like yourself. He's going to be in the next few episodes as Gordon's political opponent in the race for Mayor. And I'm really excited about his role. Again, once everything stitches together and the bigger picture is revealed... I think it's going to be really cool. As for Cassandra Cain, I don't think there's any room to explore much more of her history/past. The main story I wanted to tackle for her past was David Cain because he has that history with Bruce and he was responsible for Vesper Fairchild's death (finally solving the mystery that's been around since Season 1). Cassandra Cain will be back, though. I think her next appearance is episode 19, 'Remnants.' Yeah, I always fill those out last before saving to PDF. Just an oversight. I'll add her on the episode post Fingers crossed that son-of-a-bitch stays dead... I do love the idea that while they worked so hard to get Maxwell Lord out of Checkmate and keep him down and out, they simultaneously put Waller back in that position and she's not exactly a friend. I think where the story goes from here might surprise you, though Thanks for the feedback, Alex. I appreciate it!

But I do love the idea of The Red Hood Gang being established in the world of 'Watchtower' and Arkham Knight being an agent of Waller. Maybe both will return one day You know, I'd forgotten exactly what happened to Jimmy/Red Hood - I remembered Gordon shooting him in the kneecaps, and then him not being there later, but I'd forgotten about him actually being recruited, although when you did mentioned that 'Arkham Knight' would be someone we knew, it made sense to me at the time it would be him. I like the idea that this identity could be used by anyone and everyone in future episodes and incarnations of the Squad itself - similar to the identity of 'Ronin' in Marvel Comics - used by someone when they want to make a move out of an established identity. OMG! I just realized that we both have Mayoral Races going on this season! Ha! Talk about coincidences! That's a shame... I admit, my favourite Batgirl is Stephanie Brown (a controversial opinion, I know!) but I did enjoy several graphic novels with Cassandra in the role, and Lady Shiva herself is one my favourite villains, I would have loved to see you interpret them - not to mention having a Black Canary/Lady Shiva bitch-fight at some point! What's the saying? "Better the devil you know"? Considering you've teased that the war with Checkmate is far from over, I look forward to seeing Waller bring her 'A' game.
