The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) a 17-year-old girl, who falls deeply in love with a 162-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated as Stefan's vicious, and malevolent older brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) returns with a plan to wreak havoc on the town and a revenge against his younger brother. Both brothers begin to show affection towards Elena, mainly because of her resemblance to their past love Katherine Pierce. It is revealed that Elena is a descendant of Katherine, who eventually returns with plans against the trio. The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history since its settlement of migrants from New England in the late 17th century. Other story lines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen), her best friends Bonnie Bennett (Katerina Graham) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) and their mutual friends Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig). The town's politics are orchestrated by descendants of the original founding families, all comprising a "Founders' Council". Some of the founding families of Mystic Falls include the Salvatores, the Gilberts, the Fells, the Forbes and the Lockwoods. They guard the town mainly from vampires, although there are other supernatural threats such as werewolves, witches, ghosts and hybrids.
A spin-off from The Vampire Diaries and set in New Orleans, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world's original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt). It was revealed during the backdoor pilot, aired on April 25, 2013, that recurring werewolf character Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is pregnant with Klaus' child. Now Klaus must take down his protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who is now in charge of New Orleans, in order to re-take his city, as he originally built New Orleans. But the Mikaelson siblings were forced to flee the city after being chased down by their father Mikael, while it was being constructed and Marcel took charge. Upon their return, Klaus has but one burning desire: to take down Marcel and reclaim New Orleans for himself.

Like I said in the Supernatural thread, this show is great. Probably the best on TV right now. Most characters are well written and are useful (Not counting Jenna, she really has nothing to do) and the storylines are pretty strong. Really looking forward to when it comes back on air.

I haven't really gotten invested in this show yet. I can't get passed Damon's character. I can't stand the actor. But, the only episode I've really seen was the premiere for season two, and it was pretty awesome. I probably won't start this show until well after its finished, which judging by the ratings, may not be for a long time.

Well, I'm definitely not a Damon fan. Or Stefan really, although he is a lot better than his brother. In my opinion, the best thing about the show is its supporting characters. For example, Bonnie and Caroline, who are my favorite characters. Also, I think Katherine is great! hehe. Whenver you do decide to give it a watch, I hope you love it

I bow to this show! lol I love it. I dont like Damon as well! But I love the show and how it's different from other vampire shows and movies really. It's just not about the couple but about others as well and has a bigger premise. So I say this show is good.

I love that about TVD. They don't limit themselves. It's not all about Elena/Stefan/Damon and I'm really started to love the show now that its branching the storyline out even more, bringing in Bonnie (like they should have in season one). Hopefully they'll continue down this road.

Am I the only one that likes Damon?
Anyway, yeah the supporting characters are damn good, Caroline especially. The story is really heating up now. Hope they keep the quality up for the rest of this season.

I actually like Damon too. We must be two of a kind. Ha Ha
I agree with you guys, the supporting characters are what makes the show great, though I do like the main storyline this season. The best thing about it, is everyone in the cast (besides Jenna) is in on it! Can't wait til I get my favorite show back.

Recent episode was pretty good. Setting up some major storylines. Really can't wait for the next episode. I haven't actually felt this excited for an episode since season 4 of Supernatural, and that's a good thing.
Also, can Jenna please die?

Review - The Vampire Diaries: "Pilot"So I finally decided to give this show a real shot, and just finished watching "Pilot." As someone who hasn't watched or intends to watch Twilight, but knows what the general gist of the story is (having a sister who has read the books), I can see certain elements that resemble that -- the girl that is falling in love with a vampire. This is definately not something that originated from the Twilight series, therefore, I don't hold it too that. But when it comes to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with the love between Buffy and Angel, the big idea of it was, from my perspective, Buffy is chosen to hunt and slay vampires, what happens when she falls in love with the very thing she's meant to kill? I guess, what I'm saying is, I'm on the fence between this Elena/Stefan relationship. On one end, I can see this being an interesting story. Its not as sappy and cheesy as I predicted, and they seem to be each other's yin/yang. On the other side, I can see this getting old and fast. There are still some tones throughout their relationship that make me roll my eyes. I understand Elena looks like Katherine, and that Stefan had something with her, but she's in high school and he seems pretty interested in getting involved with her. Its weird. It doesn't make Stefan look good, and Elena is already dull, so ... The few good points that I enjoyed in this episode certainly outweighed the bad. The character of Bonnie Bennet - that is such a cool name - was definately a highlight for me. Slowly, I can see them building towards the fact that she is a witch. Her grams tells her that she's psychic, and Bonnie laughs it off, having fun with it, until she gets a vision towards the end of the episode. She has to be the most interesting character out of the bunch. Next to her there is Caroline Forbes, who is the "Cordelia" of the show, with a bit more heart and less bark. She is introduced as the quirky, always smiling character, until the very last few moments when she becomes more rounded, and more 3 dimensional. I didn't like her that much at first, but once the episode dug into her feelings a bit more in that final scene, I really started to like her. Is it sad that I find Jeremy more interesting than Elena? Another big aspect of the show that didn't appeal to me was the constant diary entries. The voice overs kill the flow of the episode. It was very choppy, and didn't run as smoothly as I had hoped. I'm not sure if its because I went into this with bad expectations (usually the episode seems better when you go in like that), but it just killed it for me. But the huge problem I thought I'd have with the show is probably something I really like, and that is the Stefan/Elena relationship. It works, in a weird, unexpected way. But I have a feeling it could be the Clark/Lana kind of story, where they'll spend all this time drawing it out only for them to not end up together. There wasn't much of a plot in the episode, which I'm told is what makes the show so good - its twists and turns, and exciting plots. I'm assuming its just because it is the first episode, and it was very character heavy. From what I could see, the plot that threaded things together was the murders (introduced in the opening), and then linking it all back to being Damon's doing. Another character that doesn't do anything for me. But, despite it lacking in that area, it was a character-heavy pilot, and introduced everyone beautifully, despite my feelings on them. And what puzzled me was, I always thought this show was about Elena, but when the opening scene said "And this is my story" coming from Stefan, I can't help but wonder if that sticks to the show. The only other episode I've seen of TVD was the S2 premiere, and that seemed pretty Elena centric. So I'm wondering if the show really is about Stefan ... Plus, the constant music playing in basically every scene is really annoying. I think they jumped from a Katy Perry song to Placebo. It just didn't work, despite them contrasting the two scenes as "light" and "dark." Overall I did enjoy the first episode. The few characters that I did enjoy ("Bonnie," "Jeremy," "Caroline," "Stefan") made the episode. The two main characters that just don't interest me at this point is Elena and Damon. Right off the bat Damon just pissed me off. I think a lot has to do with the fact that the actor always plays those douchebag roles, and I can see that this is no different. I'm hoping Damon starts to grow on me, but really, it doesn't seem likely at this point. 6/10~ Bad flow, mediocre plot made up with some good character moments.

Review - The Vampire Diaries: The Last Commet
Wha - uh - nooooo! Okay, so Caroline just got, you know, pulled into Damon's web and bitten, so I'm a little shocked. I hate Damon so much. I'm not going to get into great reviews for each episode, probably just the big ones (premiere's, finale's, game-changers). The second episode, "The Night of the Commet," simply said, was a lot better than the pilot. Again, there's not much "week-to-week" plot, but a continuously threaded arc, which can sometimes work and sometimes not -this episode, it did.
The Elena/Stefan relationship went through a few rough patches with Damon getting involved, but how it came together was nice. Elena has started to grow on me a little bit more, but I still find Jeremy more interesting and believable - I think its because his struggle seems worse. He's in love with Vicki, who is almost bipolar with her feelings, and can't get any satisfaction from that because she's so jumpy with her feelings. He's dealing with the loss of his parents, and has turned to drugs. Its a lot more interesting.
Still, my favourite is probably Bonnie. Her Grams is now calling her a witch, and she's laughing it off. She very much plays the "best friend" role, and is supportive of Elena and Stefan. At least until she has another vision which I think will start to make her see there's something he's keeping secret. I also really like the Vicki storyline. She's another character I really like, but I just wish she'd give Jeremy a straight answer and no mixed signals.
Damon, Matt, and Tyler are characters I still don't like. Elena is warming up to me, but she's still a very dull sort of character. There's nothing interesting or exciting about her yet, she's just there. Oh, and I loved the spotlight on their Aunt Jenna. Her struggle in being the replacement mum is fun to watch, and I'm glad she was given more layers. She was trying to play the nice, fun Aunt and got lost along the way. She blames herself, and doesn't want to feel responsible for Jeremy going off the deep end. She wants to help. Its a fun storyline.
The Vampire Diaries seems to be about characters, first and foremost, which is great - just wish some of those characters weren't complete bores, or jerks. In making it an encore "character" show, the writers have taken the "ongoing arc" route, which is good for this kind of show. It unwravels the story as each episode comes along. I can only guess Damon is the big bad, or the main antagonist of the season, or at least for a little while.
9/10 ~ Great character development. Interesting twists and turns. Let down in the plot a little, but otherwise, a close to perfect episode.

Review - The Vampire Diaries: Friday Night Bites
The episode picks up where it left off: Caroline has just woken up in bed with Damon with a massive bite mark and tries to escape. This episode seemed to focus on Damon a little more. Although he was still being a jerk throughout the episode, it was nice to see him be broken down a little when Stefan tells him why he has such a grudge against his brother. Clearly there are redeeming qualities, I just hope they come to the surface before he causes any more pain in people's lives. Soon he'll be too far gone.
Bonnie's story arc is really interesting. I'm excited for when she realises she is a witch. I think a part of her already knows, but she doesn't really accept it, or believe its even possible, I don't think. The Elena/Stefan relationship is continuing. It started a lot earlier than I thought, but they haven't lost their spark yet. That's good. But now that Elena has invited Damon into her house, things look even worse. I'm not sure how I feel about Damon being the big bad of the season. He isn't that "love to hate" kind of character that can be put in that position - I just hate him. But, like I said, there seems to be some humanity left in him that I can cling to to try and understand him more. So I guess that's a start.
My favourite characters are definately Bonnie and Jeremy. Caroline isn't really herself this episode, and she's rather insensitive. I'm going to wait it out with her. I think there's more of what I saw in "Pilot" with her having more of a heart than just being the perky, happy one.
Question: If Elena knows Stefan is meant to be in High School and is her age, then how come these references of Katherine aren't giving her a clue as to how old he really is? Its not like he could have some epic romance with this person in kindegarten. I'm just confused. And how he talks about his past in saying "it was a long time ago" and stuff like that, when he's meant to be ... 18? 16? However old they are on the show. Its unbelievable.
Overall, another good episode, but nothing special. 7/10.

Review - The Vampire Diaries: Family Ties
Uh oh. That was a hell of an ending. They now know that vampires have returned to Mystic Falls, and I'm excited to see what they'll do about it. Damon is pulling tricks on Stefan, playing mind games with Elena, and so Stefan finally decides to do something about it. Damon has warmed up on me, but he's still someone that deserves to be put away or killed. The Damon/Caroline story finally comes to a conclusion, and the Stefan/Elena relationship hits its first major bump: trust. Can Stefan trust her with his darkest secret. Lets hope they don't drag that part of their relationship out like they did with all of Clark's relationships on "Smallville."
The main character I'm interested in is Bonnie. Its finally sunk in. There's something different about her, and she knows it. I liked how the realisation came when she magically turns the candles on with her powers. I can't wait to see how her arc fleshes out. Its definately been one of the more exciting arcs. As for Jeremy, I'm really hoping he sees the light soon. He's gone down a dark path, and I hope someone helps him out of it and soon. I think Vicki could help if she stook by him. Her relationship with Tyler is just a joke, and Tyler's mother calling Vicki trash ... what a bitch.
And now Damon is locked away. I hope that means the show will turn off and focus on something else for a while. I can see this Damon/Stefan brotherly feud getting old and fast. That twist at the end was predictable, but nevetheless exciting.
This was a pretty decent episode that wrapped up a few storylines and begin to show traces of new ones surfacing. 7/10.
