As I won last months, for February's MOTM I've tried to go with something that maybe hasn't been done yet, and could lead to a possible new series for VPN (with Mods approval). The idea for this month's MOTM is as follows: Create a NEW Science Fiction TV Series. VPN has lots of action/adventure, fantasy and even a couple of Dramedy/Comedy shows, but we only have 1 Science Fiction show on here. So let's see what our members can come up with as a basis for a new show idea. Rules: Your show must be original in it's ideaNo copying shows already created like Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Doctor Who, etc. No using any of the characters already created and seen in any other show. By this I mean don't come up with an idea that says: "A time lord meets a human who tries to teach them about the good in humanity while defeating evil enemies" - Doctor Who "Cyborgs take over Earth sending Humanity to find a new home" - BG "A space crew explore new planets while working for a large organization to keep peace across the universe" - Star Trek Shows already pitched (Past & Present) in the virtual series section CANNOT be entered into the contest. Your entry must be completely a new idea from scratch. All entries must be in by no later than Thursday February 28th 2013 - Midnight (UK Time). Winner will be announced hopefully within 48 hours after closing. Your show must consist of the following in your post:- Title
- Synopsis for the overall series
- Characters & Small Biographies (casting not necessary if you don't wish)
- Episode Guide (minimum of your first 3-6 episodes synopsis)
You Will Be Judged On: Your originality of the idea, so be as creative and wild as you wish. The depth of your characters, synopsis and episodes. =========================================================== Remember: Science Fiction does not necessarily mean it has to be set in space, look at shows like Fringe, Alphas, Alien Nation, Sanctuary, X-Files, Lost, Dollhouse, amongst other shows set on Earth with a sci-fi basis to the overall series. To help you out, have a look at Wiki's page on Science Fiction, as it offeres various genres, ideas and settings that can be defined by the term: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fictionOverall, have fun, be creative and just enjoy trying to create a new series that could even make it as a series on VPN somewhere down the line.

Thanks MJ And glad you liked it, I think the outline script could do with some improvment to make it better and stronger but like I said I rushed the last part of it a little but the basic idea was there. I might consider pitching this then, as there's interest in it as a film. I'm just working on my idea for the next MOTM, which I hope to have up shortly. I've got an idea for what it could be about, which may work I hope.

A little late, and my outline is not the best but I posted something up in my Extinct idea post, just above the starring cast list (Pdf link). It's only a very rough 4 pages outline, with the last parts a few points of ideas added as ran out of time and struggled to get anything else wrote on it.

Finally Bitten is released and upon us to chew into And one I've looked forward to reading. It is a great first episode, introducing the characters of the show and the mystery of a few that leaves you wanting to know more about them. Some really nice writing I felt, offering us views of the town and what it's known for from the start, the characters and areas we will come to see more of over time. The descritions of settings was well wrote, and helped that imagination of what it looks like in your own mind. I love the various wolves on display, the black, grey, white which offer that good mixture so we can easily tell them apart. The "[character] runs naked, yet covered" bits confused me. Either their naked, or covered? Unless you meant they are naked but we only see sections of their naked body from our pov. Also, I don't think you said what happened to the clothing when they changed? Is it like Superman where the clothes just seem to fade into the outfit (in this case Wolf), as I think more realistic would be the clothes just crumple on the floor as the wolf jumps out of them. There was some funny parts added into the scenes, the dialogue exchange between some I enjoyed and give it that realism of communication between awkwardness, fondness and uncertainty of trust. The interactions between some characters were well worked, especially the bonding of family members, and friends. The reaction, as stated, by Sara to Will in discovering he's a wolf was a positive (realistic) take on the events, unlike many other shows/films. The added events of maybe a little magic thrown in also offers something more than "this is just another werewolf series!" Overall, I enjoyed the first episode. It was action packed when needed to be, with a good range of characters first introduced and unresolved issues and mystery regarding several of them. Elizabella's entry was a bit short and felt could have been expaned into a 2nd episode, but her impact could be felt for longer terms I believe over a series. The only small issue, which isn't anything to put me off was a small bit of SPAG I felt got though. Maam which has been pointed out, but a few times I felt maybe a comma could have worked in some areas of dialogue, and there are points where it stated "could/should of" which I think would more likely have been "could've / should've" which felt more natural. Looking forward to the next episode, and see how you develop the characters even more.

Thanks MJ for your comments on my entry. I just added a new cast member - Tessa Murphy (Michelle Trachtenberg), as you always need a bit of youth, students following others and loud screaming on these adventures Started working on the opening ideas of the outline, and going okay so far. Good luck Amin with yours, as that was one I was originally planning on having a go at as it sounds an interesting prompt summary to work with. Be interesting to see what you come up with for yours.

Chosen the following:Free for All (Mixed)3. The story is about a school of xenoarcheologists. It starts in a village in Africa. The story begins with the discovery of a lost item and ends with smuggling. A sudden increase in dangerous monsters is a major plot element. Genre: Action/Horror/Science Fiction ============================================================= "Forget everything we ever knew or believed in..."A group of Xenoarcheologists battle through the deepest jungles of Africa, in search of an item codenamed the 'Scripture' that is said contains the truth and history of our planet, including even the creation of humanity itself while laying to waste everything we have been taught from the holy grail of the bible itself. When they discover a hidden tunnel that leads within the confines of the tallest dormant volcanic mountain, Kilimanjaro, they uncover a hidden village buried within that contains a secret ceremonial point of which the missing item is found on display. As the greed of discovery grows too much for one, who steals the item from the others and leaves them to be buried alive. It sets off a chain reaction, and releases a danger that has been buried within the mountain for billions of years and unleashing an enemy upon mankind that could explain our past, and be the catalyst of our future extinction upon our own world. ============================================================= Here is the rough outline of the idea, unfortunately it's not the best I'll admit as I struggled towards the last week or so getting anything else wrote so just a rough idea of few points on last page or 2. Extinct - Outline - 4 Pages PDF============================================================= Starring:Professor Thomas Lake (Portrayed by Liam Neeson)The Professor has been searching for the truth behind the 'scripture' for decades, and is a driven man to find the lost item. His sole focus has been trying to uncover the truth about our own past, which has caused friction amongst his friends, family and colleagues in his search. Mia (Portrayed by Rachel Weisz)Mia is the foremost expert on ancient languages, and an old friend - maybe more once, of the Professor who still has deep feelings towards him. Bruiser (Portrayed by Vinnie Jones)Bruiser is exactly what his name says. He's a former military man whose seen death and war, and lived to tell the tale. He has a passion, more than most for violence and weapons. Bruiser is the protector of the group against whatever they might come across. Lei (Portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim)Lei has worked with the Professor for years, and is his right hand man and one of the only few he has ever trusted. Armando Nesta (Portrayed by Garret Dillahunt)Armando is the expert of Africa, who leads them through the jungle due to his knowledge of the lands. He has a deeper interest in helping the group though, that could lead to the downfall of mankind. Tessa Murphy (Portrayed by Michelle Trachtenberg)Tessa is a student at the University under Professor Lake, and has a huge crush on him - even though he's more than twice her age. She joins the adventure as an understudy to record everything that is discovered on his behalf and immediately has a dislike to Mia (Lake's Ex) who she sees as getting between her and the Professor, but soon finds herself wishing she was back home in the warmth of her dorm and friends. Notes: This is still the early stages of the formal idea at this point, and I'll hopefully add more over the coming weeks to complete it including a summary of the overall story.

Thanks Chris for the nice comments, and guyrjames I'll keep that in mind if I take it further. While the pitch looks fully developed, I didn't want to pitch it fully yet as was unsure myself if I could pull something like this off as a series and scripts, and haven't even wrote a teaser/pilot for it yet.
I have been writing up a bit of a 'Bible' for the series, and as I'm writing about it in a bit more depth, from the look, design, feel and history of the show - the more I'm enjoying the possibilities of what could be created here and the potential it has.
Like I said in the pitch, I saw it as a cross between Alphas and X-Men but set in a futuristic environment which is also mixed with a dark, disturbing and darkened cultured setting like witnessed in Blade Runner, but also where each city/zone has a different feel, design and feel to the area. So the lights and gamour of Entertainment Zone is vastly different to the gloomy, dull landscape of the Industrial Zone, etc.
It still needs a bit more work on characters, areas/zones etc but it's coming along nicely.

"The world has changed.... the people have changed.... now criminals have evolved!"BACKGROUND:The world has changed....
It began on July 4th 2033, and has slowly grown ever since. When a group of individuals with seemingly no connection to one another across the globe awoke to discover strange, mutant and powerful abilities they now possessed. Some used them for good, as others hid them from view of their families and friends. But a few... decided to use them for their own advantages, abusing their gifts for their own benefits causing havoc in the cities and country they live within.
They called them:
The 'Awakened'
Over the next 20 years, the world changed due to the effects of a few individuals who desired power and control of the world. It brought about drastic action upon the lands, and within the world itself. After several world wars, a greenhouse effect and the loss of billions of lives... countries once divided have come together in peace on the only few pieces of land connected to one another that has escaped the savages of the weather and conditions that destroyed much of the planet and left over 90% of the world believed to be abandoned and the rest laying beneath the oceans.
The last remaining lands have been divided into several cities, ruled over by their own leaders but under the authority of the United Nations Federation (UNF) which is based in the capital of the United States Federation (USF). A Global Police Authority (GPA) runs the land, protecting the populous from the small criminal activity that still exists.PREMISE:In 2059, the world is divided by two categories who are integrated together. The 'Awakened', and the 'Norms' who have no gifts or abilities. After a rise in not only anti-social behaviour, but also terrorism and crimes of various other nature by a few of the 'Awakened' once more, and with the Norms of the GPA unable to handle such gifted people... a specialist task force was created codenamed 'Department X'.
Assigned to investigate the unusual cases is a hard nosed, street wise Detective named Blaine Parker (Christian Slater) who is a Norm. He grew up on the tough old streets of the Bronx in New York, divorced with a teenage daughter of his own. When he is almost killed while chasing down one of the 'Awakened', he finds himself being thrust into partnership with Detective Kalista Sakura, a young woman who is one of the 'Awakened' herself but decided to put her gift to good use and looks to help those who needed it.
As Blaine finds himself having to trust Kalista with his life on the job, a bondship begins to grow between the two as they set out to do their jobs, bringing justice to the world around them by investigating, arresting and sending to the specialised maximum security prison known as 'Sanctuary', where the awakened will be held and protected from rest of society.
As they investigate, the two stumble upon secrets and lies that explain the 'Awakenings' as well as could spell the end of our own existence.STARRING:Christian Slater as Detective Blaine ParkerDetective Blaine Parker is a norm, who grew up on the tough old streets of the Bronx in New York and has a love for the old days of past when everything was so much more simple and the 'Awakened' never existed - with whom he now has a dislike for and blames for the new world he finds himself in. His life is further complicated by his own personal life, including an ex-wife who is dating the owner of a global empire government business, and his teenage daughter who he constantly worries about in the present climate. Summer Glau as Detective Kalista SakuraDetective Kalista Sakura grew up as a norm, who was witness to her own parents murder by an 'awakened' at a young age. It wasn't until the age of 21 when she became one of the 'awakened' and hated herself for becoming one of the things that was responsible for her parent's murders. She finally grew to come to terms with her new found talent, and instead looked to use it to help others in need and protect the innocent of the norms against her own kind. She finds herself assigned to Blaine as his new partner, where her abilities are put to good use in not only tracking down the 'awakened' but also helping a few. She has a burning desire to find the one responsible for her parent's murder, which has driven her to become the woman she now is. Rachel Weisz as Gabrielle ParkerGabrielle is the ex-wife of Blaine, who seperated from him after 15 years of marriage but still legally married to him until he signs the divorce papers. She is now currently the fiancee of global government magnet owner Preston Byron, an older gentleman who is as rich as he is mysterious with the company he owns and runs. Willa Holland as Keira ParkerKeira is the young daughter of Blaine and his ex-wife Gabrielle, who often gets caught up in trouble on the wrong end of the law. She is as pretty as she is smart, and sees the new world around her as her playground for fun and games. Terry O'Quinn as Preston ByronPreston is the future husband of Gabrielle, who also runs a company within the centre of the city which is linked to the Government. He is a mysterious man, who hides secrets within his organization and would kill to get what he wants - yet never get his hands dirty in the process. He is the man responsible for designing, building and running the prison known as 'The Sanctuary' across the ocean... but with ulterior motives behind the scenes. Laura Vandervoort as Juliette TempestJuliette Tempest is the personal secretary for Preston Byron. She is strict, and a perfectionist in her appearance who begins to grow a fondness for Blaine against others concerns for her safety of doing so. Edward James Olmost as QuinnQuinn is the man in charge of Department X, a former Chief of the Police who stepped out of retirement to lead the department in aprehending the 'Awakened'. Little is known about his character, or his personal life as he hides it all close to his chest and Blaine begins to question if in truth he is a man to be trusted. THE UNITED NATIONS FEDERATION:Only several pieces of land are all that are believed to exist in the world now, and interlinked by tunnels beneath the ocean. The lands are divided into several cities, where each is under the leadership of their own Presidents but under the direct instruction of the UNF. One island is linked to the USF, where only official personal are allowed to approach. This is the island in which the prison codenamed 'The Sanctuary' resides upon, lead by it's Owner Preston Byron. The Prison itself is like Alcatraz, where the prisoners are placed in cells that are designed for each individuals ability so they cannot escape. They are believed to be treated fairly and looked after by a series of military guards on duty 24/7. The cities all have their own distinctive appearance, from the lights and glamour of the 'Entertainment Alley' city where all your desires and dreams can become reality, to the 'United States Federation' which is made up mostly of businesses and global companies and has a dull, dark tone to the city. Power and energy is conserved at times of the night in certain cities into an almost total blackout. The people still dress much alike present day, albeit vehicles now have a more futuristic appearance to them and the GPA's vehicles have levitation ability to fly across the city skylines to reach incidents quicker - they cannot however cross the oceans. Weapons are more futuristic, with laser type blasters that are able to stun attackers as well as kill. Other items like tablets, computer screens are similar to those seen in films like Demoltion Man and Minority Report etc. EPISODE GUIDE:1x01: Awake! When Detective Blaine Parker is nearly killed in the line of duty tracking down an 'Awakened', he finds himself being partnered with new recruit Detective Kalista Sakura who herself is one of the people he tracks down. While at first he doesn't trust his new partner, he soon comes to learn she has many talents that could help him in his work. 1x02: Family Ties! When Blaine's daughter gets caught up in a serious incident while hanging out with some teenagers, in which one of them is also an 'Awakened' - Blaine finds his personal ties to the case tested, while Preston Byron's secrets begin to be uncovered. 1x03: Double VisionBlaine & Kalista chase an 'Awakened' capable of duplicating themself. 1x04: Voices In My HeadAn 'Awakened' has the ability to control people via their own mind. 1x05: Now You See Me.... Now You Don't?Blaine & Kalista come across an 'Awakened' who can disappear on cue. 1x06: Five!An 'Awakened' discovers all their senses have been enhanced. 1x07: Fire & IceThe duo discover a superhero type 'Awakened' who saves a family using their new talent, but is there more behind the case. 1x08: The Sear!An 'Awakened' has visions of the future, putting their own life in danger as Blaine and Kalista must protect them from being taken. 1x09: EvolutionPreston Byron's plans to change the world comes close to becoming a reality. Notes:This came to me the other day and gone through several developments from an initial idea into this form. I see it as a cross between Alphas, X-Men and Blade Runner. A futuristic cop serial drama, about an old style cop who teams up with one of the people he tracks himself who is now a part of the Police Force assigned to Department X, a specialist task force who investigate, arrest and control members of the public who have been codenamed 'The Awakened'. Each week, a case of a new 'Awakened' would be investigated while an overall story arc revolves around several of the characters involved in the background which is in regards to a secret government conspiracy and the reasoning behind what is happening to the populous, which could result in the extinction of norms forever.

I'll give this a shot. I think the stories fit in with the idea as along the lines of 'Twilight Zone'. Note: I saw this as more of a two stories in one script (approx 25-30 pages each), but both have a kind of theme to them that are similar. It's hard to describe the story without giving it away, so if wanna know a bit more about it I have a PDF which reveals my thoughts about the two stories, and the revelations/twists in them if wish to see first I can send via PM link. The Disease:
Brad Andrews is a nobody, who gets by in the world moving from town to town and surviving. But when the true nature of what lays behind the mask is discovered, he becomes labelled as one of the diseased that has been eradicated by society over the last decade and hunted down like vermin across the streets of the city, all the while in search of somewhere he can call home and someone to love him for who he really is ....
Passing of the Guard:
When a stranger arrives at a deserted cafe in the middle of the desert, he finds himself drawn into discussion with a mysterious female customer about the finer points of humanity, life and the world all around us. The two go on to discuss the implications and incidents that have surrounded us for the past millennium and possibly what the future holds for us all ....

Fantastic posters made. That dull pale lighting over the images gives that 'cold' feel to the show, which says a lot about what the show is about already. It's not going to be all happy, loving and bouncy, it's a dangerous, cold world of creatures and nightmares.
Love that Bitten font used also. Looking forward to this, and have been for a while.

Not really abandoned... just, on hold maybe lol Sleepwalkers
In the not too distant future, an ex-cop finds himself being assigned to a special Government agency codenamed 'Sleepwalkers'. There, he discovers that the recent dead can be re-animated for a period of 24 hours in order to help solve their own murders. The Agents are assigned as Guardians to protect and unravel the last moments of the victims life before time is over and they are finally laid to rest......
===================================================
Fairy Tales
Alexa Hargreaves investigates the strange and writes up her findings in a blog which has gained a cult following that she has labelled 'Fairy Tales'. She travels around the world, finding herself caught up in a world that few want to believe, and others find themselves caught up in. All the while, searching for answers to her own past and the truth about her family who went missing years ago. She finds herself assisted by a mysterious stranger who assigns her cases to investigate by e-mails to her inbox in the hope of helping her uncover the truth about herself.
Each episode would be based roughly on a Fairy Tale poem/story etc. Ideas below of first 5 I had ideas of:
Episode 1: Huff! Based on 'Three Little Pigs' by James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps
Blogger Alexa Hargreaves receives an annonymous e-mail which sends her to investigate two innocent young girls who both have been attacked by seemingly the same mysterious assailant. Digging deeper into the case, she uncovers that the two were originally three - seperated at birth and now someone.... or something is intent on killing all three.
Episode 2: Spirits! Based Upon 'The Spirit In The Bottle' by Brothers Grimm
A down on his luck homeless alcoholic discovers a bottle in which a spirit is freed once he opens it, offering him wonders in return for allowing him to be free from his prison. As Alexa invesitgates she discovers that each new wish the man receives has repurcussions upon others close by and sets out to put the spirit back where he belongs.
Episode 3: Sleepyheads! Based Upon 'The Nightingale' by Hans Christian Andersen
A young beautiful woman seems to have the voice of an Angel, singing and sending those around her into a mezmerizing state of unconscioussness. When a man discovers her talent, he kidnaps her and uses her for his own advantages of doing daring bank robberies in which everyone is found asleep and unable to remember what happened. Alexa searches for a way to the catch the modern day bonnie and clyde, in hope of helping the Angelic girl.
Episode 4: Scar! Based Upon 'The Ugly Duckling' by Hans Christian Andersen
A child is born with a disability to his body so horrendous that his parents shun and discard him from their lives. Years later, he returns with a vengeance and a new appearance in hope of exacting revenge on his parents for the treatment placed upon him. Alexa steps in and tries to stop him before he commits the ultimate sacrifice of murder.
Episode 5: The Animal Within! Based Upon 'The Bear' by Andrew Lang
Alexa receives reports of some form of animal attack and goes to investigate. As she tracks down the animal in question, she uncovers a secret of a family legend where human becomes creature and tries to break the curse before the creature is tracked down and killed by hunters.

Watched 2nd episode and is improving. As Brady said, the VO can be annoying at times and don't think needed. The ending was really the best, those last few moments set on the island. What a way to end the episode as a cliffhanger.
The one worry has to be, what will they do once all the names listed are finished with? Thats surely one season alone sorted and then where.

Dexter is a fantastic show Chris. Although you would need to watch from the first season to understand most of it and the growing up of the character if not already seen. A couple of seasons are a bit meh, but some are just top class and gripping. Season 1 (Dexters brother) & 4 (John Lithgow as Trinity) are the standout seasons for me.
Yvonne just appeared in episode 3 this week of season 7, in a minor role at moment but it looks like she'll be expanding into more central a role over next few weeks, and with Dexter involved possibly with her I feel from early indications of what happened.
This season I think has got it back on track with what we've all been waiting for in the show I think. It's one of those shows that once you start watching, you want to watch the next episode immediately and can't wait.

Some more great entries into the competition. This is gonna be tough, and still could see many of these develop further if this much passion put into the pitches. A lot of creativity put into the shows in not only outline of the shows synopsis but the casts also.

Really love the Void picture, more so the 2nd image without the vortex on right. Love the way added the light element to the image as gives it that realistic perspective. Nice, simple and can also be cut down to various sizes like a long banner, or short square version with just the name featured most. Great work.

Well finished watching the whole episode, and I'm kind of mixed still on it. There are some good ideas thrown out there in the pilot, the backstory of Vincent and Catherine amongst the positives is something different to the original and offers a wider conspiracy to the show.
The chemistry just didn't catch with me between the two leads, no spark! Over time may develop better but I just didn't feel it. Also, why are most of the cast like under the age of 30 or so, it seems like no one over 30-35 is even alive in this town. The whole setting for the programme seems to be 'lets make it a hip young crowd of actors/actresses that the teenagers will get the hots for'.
Amongst some other things, I just don't feel the Catherine as Detective role, it doesn't suit Kristin Kreuk - sorry but she just doesn't have that vibe for portraying a cop I feel. Also, it opened up 9 years prior and no one, not Catherine or Vincent seem to have aged a bit or even changed their hairstyle or appearance in any form. Why set it 9 years prior when could have done it maybe a couple of years at most.
Other issue which really annoyed the hell out of me, and presume this wasn't just my episode I saw? The music ovetone. Throughout virtually the entire episode we had some form of background music playing, and at times is distracted what was happening on screen and at some times it even got to a point where I foud it hard to concentrate and hear what the stars were saying on screen.
And finally, sorry but they got the whole 'Beauty & The Beast' wrong from the start. He's a beast! BEAST being the main objective word here, not a guy with a nasty scar down one side of his face and growls and throws hissyfits when he gets angry. A BEAST! He should LOOK like a beast. All I got from this was "Beast Angry. Beast beat up bad guys. Beast happy now" like he was the hulk all of a sudden. He looked like a almost normal person who changed into a Neanderthal looking person when hulked up.
Okay, I know I might come across as really harsh, and believe me I want to like this show and I'll probably continue watching it but so far it hasn't lived up to the hype and more importantly the original for me. I grew up watching the original with Linda Hamilton and the great Ron Perlman who brought Vincent to life through his emotions.
These two on screen had that bond, that sense of compassion and love which shone through the screens and into our eyes watching. You could feel the love that was growing between them, but here it's just silent. It's like there's little to connect them apart from the opening scene captured some form of protective bond and that's it. I do think they lost a good original idea and tried too hard to throw something new and changing ideas into the mix too much and we got this show.
Overall, I think they let a good show and idea go to waste and didn't make it something better. I'll keep watching probably as is the type of show I do enjoy overall and it does have huge potential to grow, but the pilot was disappointing on some levels and I hope it grows better with each episode.
Oh, and when Vincent (Jay Ryan) was on screen... I kept thinking of Jared Padalecki. Weird or what? lol

Just watched the Pilot and enjoyed it. Has that 'Smallville' feel to the show overall, and have to say impressed with Stephen Ammer as Oliver, his speed, stunts, running and leaping was really good and presume it was him doing it all (or most of it).
The background is teasing, with the previews of what happened on/off the island at start and end. I'm sure we'll learn much more over time about his time there. (One thing that bugged me was how did he create his bow and arrows out of metal, when he was on a deserted island of only trees and rocks? - that needs to be explained).
Katie Cassidy adds the glamour as his ex, and his best friend certainly offers that friendship that will be tested along the way, as well as his mother's past.
I hope they stick with it long term, as could see this as being a good series, although don't think would run as long as Smallville did it still has lots of potential to be exciting with other 'well-known' characters making cameos along the way. I'll stick with it and continue to enjoy it.
