So I've watched the first 4 episodes, and am about to watch the 5th, and am already hard at work on a AoS opening credits, but I still find myself unsure about the series in general... Many of the 'jokes' fall flat for me, and while the episodes are enjoyable, it feels like it hasn't gelled as well as I would expect it to. One question I have - a couple of years ago, ABC Family were apparently working on a series focusing on Bobby Morse, aka Mockingbird, the woman who in the comics becomes Hawkeye's wife for a time. The premise was basically early "Alias" - having her recruited by a 'spy organisation' while a freshmen in college. That idea, I'm more or less hoping won't come of anything, since it feels like territory already visited, but does that mean the character WONT be appearing in "AoS"? I hope that's not the case, because it would be nice if they brought in some more established comic characters - it would more help cement the show in the Marvel world, then the occasional 'guest appearance'.

thank you!! Yeah, cold/cool colours are my kind of 'go-to' colouring on videos, hence why I then went and tried a few different variations, to try something different.

Hmm, interesting... My indepth review/analysis follows. SPOILER WARNING {Spoiler}I don't know about the rest of you, but I am quite familiar with both the original series and the 1990s reboot they tried, as well as the Big Finish audio play that picked back up and continued the original series and tied it a little back into the reboot. So, I was more then ready to compare them all, but also look out for and appreciate what would make this version unique.
One of the failings of the original and reboot was their inability to separate the need to defend oneself with the ability to kill - the Tomorrow People of those series could barely lift a finger to defend themselves physically, instead having to rely on their powers to escape harm. When John takes on and beats the crap out of the Ultra guards, I was a little surprised, and at first disappointed they'd seemingly removed the 'Prime Barrier', until the scene with Jedikiah and the soon-to-be-dead Ultra operative. I suppose, in today's day and age, a show has to have a little fisticuff action to entice viewers, so that should have been expected. I am glad though, they haven't removed the 'Prime Barrier' completely, as it is an important part of the argument between 'Saps' and 'Home Superior'.
I loved Cara's little cracks about the two names for this new species, since they naturally adopted them from the original ideas, but concede that they do sound a little campy and comic-book style. The inclusion of both the characters of John and Stephen is also a nice touch, as they were the main stand out characters, and the first main focus of the show back in it's heyday. Characters like Cara and Russell are a nice addition, while both the 'homage' characters have been updated, and modernised.
The touch on the impact Stephen's breakout is having on his family is a new idea, the original show was very much focused on the Tomorrow People only. While they did on occasion have non-Tomorrow People involved in storylines as friends, the idea of showing just how detrimental the 'breakout' process is on the other members of the family helps ground this new version more in reality - as much as a show of this genre can. Although she only had brief screen time in the premiere, I assume the character of Astrid will be the counterpoint view - the human voice of reason for Stephen if and when she finally sees the truth, or if they borrow from the reboot series, breaks out herself later on, as maybe the younger brother Luca could very well do. Having Stephen not only share a familial connection with both the good guys and the bad guys is also an interesting, if slightly cliché twist, designed to cause him to be conflicted and cause problems, which it already appears to have done.
While the Tomorrow People did have enemies in the original, humans who were scared of being replaced by what they saw as a weaker species, they were usually only a one-story foe, whereas here, ULTRA looks like it could be around for a while. It reminds me a lot of the Psi Corps from "Babylon 5", recruiting and forcing Tomorrow People to hunt their own, either through brain washing or some kind of conditioning. It will be interesting to see how Stephen will be playing both sounds against each other over time, especially since the 'rebels' are pinning so much hope on his shoulders already.
Naturally, the writers/producers are thinking of their show in very different terms of the original, which shared the story telling style of classic "Doctor Who", which each season comprised of stand alone serials, of several episodes each. American television though, always tends to put an arc into play, something to hook viewers in and see what it will lead to - in this case, the fact that Stephen is a second-generation TP, and the son of one of the original founders of the rebel group, and that Stephen himself is seemingly stronger then the average, not only able to teleport away from the ULTRA facility, but also telekinetically 'freeze' an area around him.
TIPS OF THE HAT: The character of TIM, I was surprised but please they included - in the original, a 'biotronic' sentient computer system constructed by John with thanks to an alien federation of telepaths that helped humanity's next step find it's footing. Here, it's a simple artificial intelligence, presumably constructed by Stephen's father, as I doubt, for now, this new series will introduce aliens intervention, if ever, and voiced by none other then Dan Stevens, formerly of "Downton Abbey" fame! Also, the unusual name for Mark Pellegrino's character comes from the very first enemy that the original TPs went up against - a shape changing android who shared his namesake's desire to wipe out telepath, who popped up once more in the original run and then again in the Big Finish audios. I know they've also landed the original 'John' in at least one episode as a guest actor, so who knows if any more will pop up if the show continues beyond the first season.. To review, they've hit the floor running, jumping straight into a meaty storyline, with little time to catch your breath, but only time will tell if the exceptionally pretty leads will be able to hold their own.

Yay!! prefer the idea of a 12-episode season, hate the fact that the longer the season, the more inclined they are to split it into two on many different shows these days. "Wolf Watch" - ha, sounds like they're capitalising on the love for the show, like the 'behind the scenes' shows they do for things like Big Brother, the various celeb-dancing/skill shows and the like

THE SCU GETS REINFORCEMENTS
theVPN is back on the set of freshman crime/mystery drama show, "Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit" to meet 3 new characters being introduced over the course of the season. All 3 are police officers and detectives and each brings something new to the mix and are there to remind the viewers that not every case will involve either Danny or Maggie throughout it's investigation. Gregory Cruz, formerly of "Saving Grace", and various guest appearances in a variety of television shows, joins the cast as Detective Sergeant Russell Ten Clouds, a senior member of the SCU who becomes Danny's field partner when Maggie has to stay and deal with the paperwork of being The Boss. Hand-picked and recruited by Maggie, he's got a lot of experience with the weird goings-on of Metropolis, and it takes a lot to faze him. Elizabeth Rodriguez, currently appearing in the hit Netflix series, "Orange is the New Black", as well as appearing in the US Remake of "Prime Suspect", has signed on to play Detective Lupe Leocardio, a new transfer to the SCU determined to make her mark, and willing to step on whoever gets in her way, and has her eyes set on succeeding Maggie as commander of the Unit. In the comics, the character was brought in as a replacement for Maggie Sawyer, once she left to take charge of Gotham City's Major Crimes Unit. Finally, Fred Weller, late of "In Plain Sight", has signed on as a guest role of Internal Affairs Detective Ralph Dibney, who is assigned to investigate a shooting both Danny and Maggie are involved in, that becomes more complicated then it should, in Episode 5: "Trust". Dibney, in the comics, was the superhero Elongated Man, and was well known for his relationship with his wife, Sue, and the fact their relationship was one of the most solid marriages of the DC universe.

I always assumed that her power was either burned out by fighting off Brainiac, or his brain rewiring cut off her access to it afterwards. Jack, it's not that I want her to have it back, per se, I just would have liked at some point in either Smallville's later seasons or in Watchtower some reference to say if she missed having the power, or how she felt no longer being a meteor-freak. I do agree that it was a useful tool to help change and evolve her opinions regarding meteor-infection, but given that Chloe was one of the strongest and most developed characters throughout the run, and now has her own show, it never sat right with me that it hasn't been addressed. So, no matter what way you go with it, I'm happy you HAVE at least remembered it

you know, I just had a random thought - I always disliked that they did all this build up in "Smallville" to reveal what Chloe's meteor power was, for it to only last a season and never be touched on again... so, I'm hoping "Watchtower" does eventually spend some time on that as well, especially is Chloe is resurrected in the way I think she's being resurrected...

I wrote a Kara/Legion audio miniseries years ago, long before she came back and then left again in "Smallville" I would be epic to see her pop up again in the Watch/Trinity universe

HA HA!! I RULE!!
"BERNICE SUMMERFIELD"
She's a spin off companion in Doctor Who, created for the novels, but when the novel licence was revoked, and the publishers could no longer market Who-novels, they spun Benny off into her own independent series. She proved popular enough that she ended up with her own audio series over at Big Finish Productions, which lead to them eventually earning the license to create new Doctor Who stories with the classic Doctors.

MEET DANNY TURPIN As production continues on the latest show to spring from the VPN’s interpretation of the " Smallville" universe, VSGuide visit’s the set once again to talk to series male lead, David Paetkau, who once again steps into the role of Danny Turpin that he portrayed in the original show‘s eight season, in the episode “Bulletproof“. VSGuide: Welcome back to Metropolis, David, how does it feel to be back playing a character you originally played as a one-off 5 years ago.DP: Kinda weird, in all honesty, but I’m loving the fact that Alex has shown that time has passed for the characters, and that Danny has had to live with the consequences of his actions. I’ve just come from another police-based, character driven show, so I know what to expect from some aspects, but others, like the whole idea of ‘meta-humans’, and the fact that I’ll actually be involved with crime solving, it’s gonna be interesting. It’s good to be back in the world of “ Smallville”, and I’ve been reading up on how shows like “ Watchtower” and “ Trinity” have staked their claim in that universe, and really enjoyed what they did, so I’m looking forward to seeing where Alex goes with it. VSGuide: That brings us to the next question: what was it that made you come back to the role?DP: Danny was always a very flawed character, and I was drawn to that, and in “ Smallville”, we see him at a very early age compared to his comic book status, so I liked that he was going on this journey, of being shown this darker path, but ultimately choosing the right path. Like I said, I liked how the script for the pilot showed how much s*** Danny has had to put up with over the years since we last saw him. VSGuide: How has Danny changed in M: SCU from the character seen in Smallville?DP: He’s hardened, developed a rougher edge, what with all the abuse he’s suffered from other cops. He’s shut himself off from a lot of people. He’s still got his marriage, his family, they’re what’s kept him sane, kept him going, and not everyone on the force has been giving him a hard time. In the pilot he starts off as a regular police officer, but he gets the chance to prove himself, and having Maggie to bounce off from, it gives him a chance to flex his brains, not just his brawn. Jill is great to work alongside, I’m looking forward to shooting more with her. VSGuide: What can you tell us about Danny’s interactions with the other main characters?DP: Well, it depends on the circumstances in the script, really. We’ve been working on scenes for episodes 2 and 3, and I’ve been working with another officer, played by Gregory Cruz, but mostly I’ve been dealing with the various guest actors we have in. I’m looking forward to filming episode 4, because it’s a big Danny-centric episode, and I’ll have more screen time with Jill, plus scenes with Harry Lennix and David Conrad. VSGuide: Can you tell us what’s in store for Danny this season?DP: It’s hard to say, this season is very much establishing the show and how it operates in this shared universe, but we’re also trying to squeeze in as many character moments as we can, while also adhering to the rules of the ‘police procedural’. He’s definitely hitting the ground running, that’s for sure, as he proves to not just himself, but all those who have put their faith in him, to do a good job, and keep the city safe. VSGuide: What do you hope to see from Danny as the series progresses?DP: I’d like to see him in more of a command role, as time progresses, and seeing him have to deal with all the naysayers about him, as well as all the people who gave him a hard time - Danny’s no angel, he’d do what he can to make life miserable for them, but I don’t think he’d abuse his power TOO much. I also hope we get to see more time with his family, I’ve only shot a handful of scenes with Sarah Smythe, who plays Suzie, my wife, so far, but I don’t know if they’ll all make it into the episodes they’re planned for. I think part of what will make the show great will be seeing how these characters maintain their regular lives in this occasionally strange and bizarre world they occupy. [Apologies for lack of updates, I've been really busy with other projects, but rest assured MSCU is never far from my thoughts, I'm working with friends to create some graphics for the show, and the scripts are continuing to develop.]
