Detective Catherine Chandler is an intelligent, take-no-prisoners homicide detective who works with her police partner, Tess. Many years ago, Catherine saw her mother being murdered by two gunmen...two gunmen who would have killed her as well, except for the fact that something stepped in and saved her life. Today, Catherine has grown into a competent and strong woman, but she still believes someone human saved her life, not an animal. While investigating a recent murder, a clue leads Catherine to Dr. Vincent Keller, a man who was apparently killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Of course, it turns out that Vincent is actually alive, and he's the same man who saved her life. But he's been in hiding for the last 10 years because his condition leads him to turn into a beast when he becomes enraged. After meeting with him, Catherine makes a deal: she'll keep his secret if he can help her with her mother's murder. Their partnership continues to grow and, of course, the pair find themselves drawn to each other.

I remember I had no intention on watching this show when it was first announced. And then, I saw Kristin Kreuk and that was a wrap. Sort of unfair, but I can't pass her up. After watching the trailers, I know this isn't my most "anticipated" show, but I look forward to seeing how well it does, and I really hope it's given a fair shot, if it's good.

I hope it's not a shot-for-shot remake of the 1980s tv series

Yea, this isn't my most anticipated show for the fall, but it is on the list of the one's I'll watch. But it's manly for Kristin. XD Hopefully it'll be good, and I can watch Kristin week after week and have a good story to go along with it.

I'm really looking forward to this one. I think it, along with Arrow, will sort of fill the void that Smallville left. I think Kristin Kreuk proved on Smallville that, when given the opportunity, she can really kick some ass, and its awesome to see that the character she plays isn't as much as a victim as Lana was - at least in the beginning of the series. She seems to be able to hold her own.
I also like the backstory for the Beast - that he's basically an experiment gone wrong. I think digging into his past will be really interesting, and to see this connection between these two characters, how far they'll both go to protect one another - yeah, the show just looks awesome. My only fear is that the whole "romance" aspect could get cheesy, and if there's one thing they need to get right it would be the relationship between the two main characters. Other than that, this show looks like its going to be pretty damn epic.

Ugh, IGN reviewed this, and gave it a 2/10. That does not sit well with me, considering I was desperately hoping this would be good. They said it was one of the worst, new Fall shows. -shakes head- WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO ME, CW?!

I think the show will be pretty cool- the vibe kind of reminds me of Dark Angel- and I absolutely LOVED that show.
I am worried about how romanticized the pilot will be, as well as the show in general, but I think that will fizzle out over time anyway. I mean, look at The Vampire Diaries. Over here in Australia, when it came to air, it was promoted as "If you loved Twilight, you'll love this." And they did play on that Stefan/Elena love story pretty eagerly in the first 4-5 episodes, until the darker plots came through, and it was less "lovey dovey."
IGN is pretty tough in its ratings- at least, that's what I've found when I've watched something, and checked with the site for their view of it. I don't think the pilot will be flawless, but 2/10? Pfft. I'm still gonna give it a shot. I loved Lana Lang on Smallville, and I've missed Kristin Kreuk ever since. Dying to see her kick some ass. XD

So, um... Yeah. I actually enjoyed this show. More than I expected to. It was far from terrible, but it was also far from perfect. The chemistry between the two leads needs work, but I have a feeling that should improve. Actually going to follow this for a while, which is a shock to me, because I was actually set on this being pretty bad. XD

I watched for about 20 minutes, then lost interest. Perhaps it was just my mood, because that happens to me a lot. It took me like four tries to watch Battlestar Galactica, and that's number 3 on my top 5 favorite shows of all time. So, there's still time to give it another chance.

Hm. I watched, and I didn't hate, however I didn't love it either. I found myself bored mostly, because it was very predictable. I feel bad because I'm watching Smallville and really love Lana Lang, however I don't think it's fair to watch for her alone. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, ugh. Lol. I am going to call this officially... I will not be continuing to watch this show.

Well this is awkward. I actually reeeeeeally liked the pilot. More than Arrow, actually, which surprised me. Kind of makes me wonder what all the critics were smoking when watching it, but I digress. Vincent had a solid backstory. Catherine was everything I love in a female character- strong, intelligent, with a vulnerable and badass side. And the chemistry was pretty great too. There wasn't as much romance as I had feared, which was the greatest aspect of the pilot I was dreading, and... yeah. I loved it.

Well finished watching the whole episode, and I'm kind of mixed still on it. There are some good ideas thrown out there in the pilot, the backstory of Vincent and Catherine amongst the positives is something different to the original and offers a wider conspiracy to the show.
The chemistry just didn't catch with me between the two leads, no spark! Over time may develop better but I just didn't feel it. Also, why are most of the cast like under the age of 30 or so, it seems like no one over 30-35 is even alive in this town. The whole setting for the programme seems to be 'lets make it a hip young crowd of actors/actresses that the teenagers will get the hots for'.
Amongst some other things, I just don't feel the Catherine as Detective role, it doesn't suit Kristin Kreuk - sorry but she just doesn't have that vibe for portraying a cop I feel. Also, it opened up 9 years prior and no one, not Catherine or Vincent seem to have aged a bit or even changed their hairstyle or appearance in any form. Why set it 9 years prior when could have done it maybe a couple of years at most.
Other issue which really annoyed the hell out of me, and presume this wasn't just my episode I saw? The music ovetone. Throughout virtually the entire episode we had some form of background music playing, and at times is distracted what was happening on screen and at some times it even got to a point where I foud it hard to concentrate and hear what the stars were saying on screen.
And finally, sorry but they got the whole 'Beauty & The Beast' wrong from the start. He's a beast! BEAST being the main objective word here, not a guy with a nasty scar down one side of his face and growls and throws hissyfits when he gets angry. A BEAST! He should LOOK like a beast. All I got from this was "Beast Angry. Beast beat up bad guys. Beast happy now" like he was the hulk all of a sudden. He looked like a almost normal person who changed into a Neanderthal looking person when hulked up.
Okay, I know I might come across as really harsh, and believe me I want to like this show and I'll probably continue watching it but so far it hasn't lived up to the hype and more importantly the original for me. I grew up watching the original with Linda Hamilton and the great Ron Perlman who brought Vincent to life through his emotions.
These two on screen had that bond, that sense of compassion and love which shone through the screens and into our eyes watching. You could feel the love that was growing between them, but here it's just silent. It's like there's little to connect them apart from the opening scene captured some form of protective bond and that's it. I do think they lost a good original idea and tried too hard to throw something new and changing ideas into the mix too much and we got this show.
Overall, I think they let a good show and idea go to waste and didn't make it something better. I'll keep watching probably as is the type of show I do enjoy overall and it does have huge potential to grow, but the pilot was disappointing on some levels and I hope it grows better with each episode.
Oh, and when Vincent (Jay Ryan) was on screen... I kept thinking of Jared Padalecki. Weird or what? lol

This is the main argument I see in critics for the show. Personally, I like this new take- its more realistic. Vincent himself has enough of a backstory there, given to us in this pilot, that makes him, and his beast side, more three dimensional than just "beast angry, beast beat up bad guys, beast happy now". The fact that its part of a government experiment, that they show how this side of him is related to his emotions- whether anger is the only trigger, it could be other things too- and that while he appears human for most of the time, he doesn't necessarily feel human. It reminds me of Davis Bloome from Smallville- he had this other side to him, buried beneath the surface, but it controlled his life and made him feel like a monster, and he didn't even have a scar on his face to show it. Its that, to me- Vincent feels like a monster, he can act like a monster, and he is caging a monster deep within that often finds its way to the surface. Seeing what brings it out, what calms it- this is something that is interesting to me. What kind of effect will Catherine have on it? If its a failed experiment, is there a cure? Are there other survivors out there? If they had stuck with the literal "he looks like a beast, therefore, is a beast" approach as the original, it wouldn't be a modern take on a fairytale- the main goal of the show itself. And, I think they did a great job in that. I'm actually shocked at how much I enjoyed this because all the advanced reviews for it were pretty bad. But yeah, I think adding a procedural vibe to the series, having more realistic elements involved, and modernising the tale of "Beauty and her Beast", theCW has a pretty great show on its hands. The promo for next week looked EPIC. xD

Okay, so after writing my little schpeel on here, and after reading how devoted Jack was to this series, I have decided to give it another chance. Maybe I'm like Chris and I wasn't in the mindset. I downloaded the premiere and have it waiting on my PS3 for tonight when I get home from work. I will give it another shot, I mean look at Secret Circle. I kept giving that dying horse shot after shot Lol, the least I can do is give this show another one.
