Can you use actors from other shows as guest stars or recurring characters?

If it's a single guest appearence than it's fine, any longer than that you should probably ask the showrunner.

I had the impression only REGULAR characters had that. Recurring characters should be fine, no matter what (Or it would be very hard to use actors as recurring characters, since that casting list up there is quite long).

I agree that if you want to use someone as a recurring character you should check with the showrunner. 'Recurring character' is a rather loose term, that could mean anything from a couple of episodes to a lot of episodes but just as a very minor role. Some showrunners might not want one of their cast featuring heavily as a recurring character in another show but are happy for a minor recurring role so it's always best to ask.

For me, personally, I think actors/actresses set to play the lead roles ("Allison Mack," "Zoey Deschannel") shouldn't be used for guest spots or recurring roles on other shows. IMO, you should just always make sure with the showrunner before using one of their cast members - but on this forum, we believe the more unique cast, or fresher faces, the better.

But like with MJ, she wrote her character with the distinct image of Zoey Deschannel in mind, who was booked to play Kitty on "X-Men Legends." Due to:

A) The character played a minor role (on XL)
B) We weren't sure when the show would air
C) She couldn't really see anyone else playing her
D) Her pitch/show was unique and something new

Chris and I decided it was totally cool. So asking the 'showrunner' is best before using an already booked cast member.

Okay, so, just to be sure, with the cast used in Canceled series (i.e. the Protectors) can those actors/actresses be used in other VS or must permission still be granted from their creator, because I noticed on a list on another form those people were still marked as off-limits for use without permission. Just checking for future reference

So, I realize this question went unanswered for quite a while, and I apolgize. But just for clarification -- Yes. Actors/actresses from canceled/completed shows are availble for use in pitches.

Sorry if I sound nitpicky... but why is "Hellbound" included in the list up there, while LOTLD and Age of Heroes aren't?

XD I've been wondering why they aren't up there, as well. While we're on the subject of that though, on the Outcasts one Missy Peregrym's name is spelled wrong XD I keep forgetting to mention it rofl. And would it be possible to add Bryce Dallas Howard onto the list?
