No, not about the old Clint Eastwood movie, though thanks to that for title inspiration. Now I can sit here and feel all clever about myself, hehehe.
*Cough* ahem, to the point. And I'll do no fancy talk. I've had the spark of an idea... only a theme, really, and I'd very much like your help to build up a rich collection of stories.
The story takes place in a fantasy world inspired by ancient Graeco-Roman and Asian cultures. Earlier today, the sort of starting point to an idea came to me in the form of a young man wearing white silk with a crooked cane, a sunshine smile and an advice always on his tongue for the one who should want it. This man is a figure of great admiration amongst the people and has just returned from being thought to be dead to the cheers of the crowds.
Oh, and this guy is secretly plotting to bring about the end of the world on the basis that "it is for the best of all", only, you know, without the typical arrogant attitude stereotype that often tags along with that justification. He's really a decent guy who loves everyone... only in his mind, the world needs to end. He thinks it's time. So he'll pick up the coin you drop on the street or save a drowning child... but he'll still destroy all of us for his belief.
That's what I have so far on it and the idea just... fascinates me, so much. The idea of a villain who is as far from a villain as you can get. I'm imagining all these different life stories from this world being connected together by this theme and this guy's quest. The battle between good and evil in human hearts. I want to show bad things and good things, with a focus on the bad for starters. I'll work it up (or down) from there.
What I'm looking for are stories. Really, truly, anything. A kid putting their life at risk to save an animal species in danger. A mother going undercover to rescue her enslaved family. A warlord besieging a town and "rounding up its people" and his reluctant wife. Whatever that fits the world and age, you know?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your time and brain. I wouldn't normally make a thread out of something like this (or even post it publically in the chat box, really) but I think this theme is just something that anyone can relate to easily.
