Stargate is an American/Canadian science fiction franchise based of the 1994 film Stargate. Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe are its three cannon shows.
Stargate SG-1 follows the adventures of SG-1 led by Colonel Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) with Doctor Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), Captain (Major/Lieutenant Colonel) Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Teal'c (Christopher Judge) as they explore new worlds through the use of an ancient alien device known as a Stargate. Along the way they must fight an evil race of paracitical beings known as the Goa'uld that enslave humans that they original took from Earth thousands of years before.
Stargate SG-1 was cancelled after its 10th Season (not before some cast changes, notably Ben Browder playing the new leader of SG-1, Cameron Mitchell and the character of Daniel Jackson being replaced in season 6 by Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemec)). There were two TV movies that followed SG-1, while a third was cancelled.
Stargate Atlantis was the spin off from SG-1, that overlapped for some three seasons before proceeding on its own. Atlantis had the same premise, but took place in the Peaguses galaxy and the enemy were the life sucking Waith.

The show was not renewed after the fifth season, and a movie planned was not produced.
Stargate Universe was the second spin off from the Stargate franchise. A group of soldiers, scientists and civilians are forced to abandoned their base after it is attacked to an ancient space ship in another part of the universe with no way home and limited means of survival.
