Haha! Phone conversations don't actually bother me. I just write it like normal dialogue, stay on one person and the other person talking gets a little (OVER PHONE) parenthetical next to their name. If I do switch back and forth between scenes (which I rarely ever do) I can see how I could start to hate them. lmao! Another thing I dislike doing is introducing characters. I don't think I hate it, I just know it's not one of the things I'm best at, so I try to work around it as much as I can. But when writing pilots, like I'm doing right now, I'm having to introduce all of these freaking characters and it's driving me crazy. I'm on page 25 and I've still got one or two more characters that need to be introduced. Me and my stupid ensemble casts... When introducing characters here all I've been giving is their age, hair color and length and their expression at the moment. I know that's not enough but I may go back and add more description later. So annoying.

Most writers here on the forum love writing scripts, or else, why would we be doing it? But with everything you love, comes a list of things you love... a lot less. So tell us, what are some of the things that must go into writing a script that you just can't stand doing or at least, would be fine if you never had to do again?
For me, here's a couple of them off the top of my head;
- Establishing shots. I know they aren't necessarily NEEDED all of the time, but when I feel like I do need to establish a location before going into the scene, I hate it, especially if it's just a aerial/skyline shot. I mean, how many different ways can you describe a city in detail? It doesn't help that I practically used one at the beginning of EVERY episode of Trinity for some off reason.
- Teasers. I admit, teasers can be a great tool. Sometimes they work, but sometimes they just get on my nerves. I often get so focused on setting up the episode with the teaser and how perfect it has to be in establishing the tone and focus of the episode, that I NEVER make it past the damn thing. So, I've written them off in general, unless the style of the show I'm writing calls for one.
So come on, what are some of yours? Or do you just love everything about writing scripts? (liar)

First of all, it's good to see you back on theVPN, Megan! I always get a bit excited when old faces make a return. Onto the pitch -- I was a fan of the original pitch from years ago, and I really like where you've decided to take the series. "How To Be Mom" and its family-oriented concept feel very honest and I can definitely see this series pulling at some heart strings, based on the idea of a mother dying and her sister being next in line to raise her kids. Also, considering it's a dramedy, and Melissa is portrayed the way she is, I can definitely see some hilarious moments with her attempts at parenting. You've always been one to do some amazing casting. I'm going to assume I should go by the images and not the 'portrayed by' text here. The actors you locked in for the siblings are Phoebe Tonkin and Connor Paolo; instead of Lucy Hale/Logan Lerman? But either way, I really think I'll like the dynamic between the 3 siblings, as well as their individual relationship with Melissa. Looking forward to a pilot! Best wishes, Megan. Edit: Ignore my comments about the error in the cast since Brady beat me to it

Thanks Megan! This show is gonna be so fun to write because not only is it Crime and Mystery, but it's got a real dystopian and cyberpunk vibe about it, and I'm excited to show those elements off.

12 pages of Gangland 1x01 in the bag! Hoping for at least another 50 before it's all said and done. I'll probably give it a rest for tonight, let my brain refresh, then start it back up again first thing in the morning.

This is a show I've always been heaps excited for. I'm glad that you're still working on it, Jay, because it's got loads of potential. And I really can't for the pilot to be released whenever you think it's ready! Still rooting for this show.

Rough outline complete. Will be starting the pilot script tonight! LOL After I go bowling... *sighs*

Reworking the outline a bit. This show is both fun and complicated because there are so many characters that need to be introduced, and they're all in different places around the story-world. So far, I've introduced 6 out of the 9 main characters ON the island, and 7 of the 8 main characters OFF the island. I'm pretty sure I've put more pre-production work into this show than anything else I've ever written, so I'm really looking forward to getting this pilot up for everyone this summer! XD

Awesome spoilers! Really excited about the introduction of Rachel Roth on this show, obviously, since she's one of my absolutely favorite DC characters. It'll be interesting to see how she's portrayed her, and coming up with new ways she can possibly return to the universe over on Trinity at some point later on. I'm also interested in seeing what you do with Stacy Keibler's character as well Overall and I'm sure I've said this about a thousand times... I cannot wait for this show to premiere! xD

I've completed Arkham City. Have yet to buy Arkham Asylum though. I may or may not play that game before picking this one up, but I'm pretty excited too

It's too early to tell, as we've got season one all mapped out, but we're still in early production of season two. We're trying to really focus on getting season one ready to premiere by November, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility; especially when it comes to Kara.

Gonna try restarting this game. There have been so many reincarnations of this character throughout the decades, so who would YOU cast as COUNT DRACULA?

Brady, you're just FULL of awesome advice! hahaha I took out some of the voiceovers. The ones that were not needed to convey what needed to be conveyed. After looking back, most of the reaction voiceovers were just adding to the characters physical reaction. So, I agree with you there. One or two of the reaction V.O's stuck around, but the more pointless ones are gone.
Thanks again, Brady, for your feedback and support! XD
