The show begins in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction (suggested in trailers to be due to dwindling worldwide air quality and overpopulation). In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a time machine allowing people to travel 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they are unaware that the colony is in the middle of a group of carnivorous dinosaurs. Personally, I think this seems like it could be pretty damn great.

No doubt its got potential. But, I'm not sure if it'll blow me away. I hope it will, because this sounds like my type of show. *crosses fingers*
I'll always watch a pilot though, this is one of the few that I looked forward to this season, along with Ringer & Person of Interest.

I'm watching Terra Nova right now. So far, so good. The fact that we've got a 2-hour premiere is great, hopefully it keep my interest for another hour and a half

At first I was a little doubting of Terra Nova's ability to grab my interest but I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm kinda really liking this show and actually made sure to sit down and watch the second episode when the only reason I watched the pilot originally was because it happened to be on TV while I was in the room.
I have to admit the pilot episode did start to bore me a little around the hour and a half mark so I question the decision to make it a two hour opener, but the rest of it was pretty good. Just a pity we didn't get to see more of the ruined earth before they got to Terra Nova because I found that whole start sequence really intriguing.
I'm also enjoying all the characters so far, though every time whats-his-face, let me look up his name... Commander Taylor, show up on screen he reminds me of Commander Up from Starkid's musical Starship and that just makes me giggle. Despite enjoying the characters so far I am hoping to see their personalities developed a bit more, especially the family dynamic of the main characters, without them falling into stereotypes and clichés, which I could see happening if the writers aren't careful.
Second episode was pretty good. It was a bit 'monster of the week'-ish but lots of shows have lasted on this format and good characters alone so as long as it's done right I can't see this being a problem. I rather enjoyed this episode, possibly because I'm all for character whump and seeing people being attacked by a bunch of flying dinosaurs and getting all bloodied up makes me happy XD
All up I'm going to say I quite like Terra Nova, despite my initial misgivings, and will definitely be sitting down to watch it each week. Here's hoping the writers can keep it interesting and exciting though!
