Daria sat down on her computer to watch the latest web episode of her favorite show, Sick, Sad World.
On the screen, a woman in her fifties is dressed like a gangsta rapper singing like Biggie Smalls, while a few clad women danced around the older woman.
“MC Grandma on the next Sick, Sad World Online,” said the announcer.
“MTV sure let it go downhill,” replied Daria, as she got up to only hear a internet ad for the next big movie blockbuster.
The screen showed two giant robots fighting a kaiju monster that looked like something out of a stop motion Sinbad movie.
“Monster Royal is coming,” said a male announcer off screen. “The biggest monster fights from all over the globe is hitting the big screen.”
“Something Beavis and Butt-Head would like,” sighed Daria, as she left her room.
Downstairs, Daria spotted her mother, Helen Morgendorffer, on the phone with her boss, Eric, while her sister, Quinn is watching something on TV.
“What are you watching?” Daria asked her sister.
“I’m watching this great show about these two stepbrothers who go on whacky adventures while their pet platypus is a secret agent,” replied Quinn. “Want to watch?”
“Maybe later, when my brain evolves from Mouse to Discovery Channel,” said Daria, as she almost is about to go out the door.
“Daria, do you have plans this weekend?” Helen asked.
“Why?” Daria asked as well. “I might be going to Jane’s anyway.”
Helen smirks as Daria looked at her mother in disgust. “A friend of mine needs volunteers at the community center, and I asked her that you’ll be there to help.”
Daria frowns at this. “What part of you should have asked me first before you force me into another one of your get Daria out of the house for the weekend ideas didn’t you understand?”
“Daria, all you do on the weekends is do stuff with Jane and eat pizza,” said Helen, with a gruff look. “All I want you to do this weekend is to spend some time with some kids.”
“What’s in it for me?” Daria asked.
“Daria, this weekend you’re joining the Sweet Cake Girls,” said Helen, as she went back to the phone.
“WHAT?!” Daria spoke in shock after what she just heard. “You signed me up to join the Sweet Cake Girls? Mom, they suck.”
“Watch your mouth, young lady,” snapped Helen. “The Sweet Cake Girls aren’t bad, they just need work.”
“Have you eaten one of their cookies?” Quinn asked. “I heard that Sandi ate one years ago, and she had a toothache for a week.”
“So, Miss Fashion Club president ate a death cookie,” Daria smirked. “That’s a first.”
Just then, Jake Morgendorffer, entered the household with a box of Sweet Cake Girl cookies in his hand. “Look what Jakey just got?”
“Wait a minute, Dad, aren’t you suppose to be on a diet?” Daria asked. “Plus, I’m not going to eat one of those death cookies.”
“I know, kiddo, but these are not for eating,” said Jake, as he laid the box on the kitchen table. “Your mom told me that you’re going to be a Sweet Cake Girl for the weekend, so I went and got a box of Sweet Cake Girl cookies for you to be their spokesman.”
“I’m going to Jane’s,” Daria walked off to the Lane’s home.
Amanda Lane, Jane’s mother, worked in her art room as Daria entered with Trent, Jane’s brother.
“Hey, Mom,” asked Trent. “Daria is going to be here for a while.”
“My parents made me a Sweet Cake Girl for this weekend for volunteer work with some kids,” replied Daria. “Is Jane home?”
“Yes, and she knows about your little problem,” said Amanda, as Jane Lane walked from downstairs and frowned at Daria.
“What did I do?” Daria asked Jane.
“I hate you, Morgendorffer,” Jane spoke in a deadpan look on her face. “You mother got me signed up to volunteer for the Sweet Cake Girls this weekend, and you will pay for this.”
“I know you’re kind of ticked off at this, Jane,” said Daria. “Let’s hope nothing else happens next.”
This is a preview of a e-book I'm writing for Kindle, as you know fan fiction can be published at Kindle Worlds site. I started writing a G.I. Joe novella as well.
