So, I was going to wait to read the first five or six episodes together... Yeah, that didn't happen Downloaded the first three the other day, and today I finally had some time to read 5x01. All I can say... WHOA! "Watchtower" is BACK, BABY!! I was hooked from the first scene and devoured the whole episode as quickly as I could. Loved it from start to finish! But I have to say, my absolute favourite parts of it where the pre-Season One premiere flashbacks. It felt very satisfying to finally have all the questions I had when I first read that episode way back when answered in full... This season is going to be your piece de resistance, Jack. I can feel it within my aged bones

So, I was going to wait to read the first five or six episodes together... Yeah, that didn't happen Downloaded the first three the other day, and today I finally had some time to read 5x01. All I can say... WHOA! "Watchtower" is BACK, BABY!! Thank you for reading, and leaving me some feedback! I appreciate it. This makes me so happy. I really wanted that first scene to mirror the pilot opener, but instead of Chloe feeling lost and navigating this big event on her own, we're years in the future where she's now with her child and at peace with her life. I was a little worried about the slow-burn nature of the premiere, but I'm happy to hear that revisiting Gotham and all these characters through Chloe's eyes seemed to work. I'm glad the pre-pilot flashbacks were satisfying! I like the whole "in order to get to the end, we need to go back to the beginning" type vibes in final seasons, so it's something I wanted to do for Watchtower. I always forget that I started writing this before Smallville had even finished, and so there's always been some continuity issues to buffer out. Outside of smoothing some of those edges, I thought it was just a nice way to parallel the events in the present - where Chloe was returning to Gotham - with a story of how she ended up moving to Gotham in the first place. From that, we got to see Chloe and Perry's first meeting (since Smallville, of course) and see Emil's descent and how quickly things turned between him and Chloe in the fallout of Tess' death. Again, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed them! Thank you. Aw, I really hope so. I'd hate to wrap things up with a dud of a last season, hahaha. There's certainly more freedom in Season 5 to accomplish that, because instead of being at a point in the story where you're only in year two or year three of Bruce being Batman, or the Justice League having only just come together, it's 10-12 years beyond all these characters having embraced their destiny, and so I get to create actual endings for all these characters and these stories. Hope you enjoy what's to come. Thanks again, Alex
