"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die." Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where "summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime," Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark of the House Stark to serve as Hand of the King, or highest official. Secretly warned that the previous Hand was assassinated, Eddard accepts in order to investigate further. Meanwhile the Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take power. Across the Narrow Sea, the last members of the previous and deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also scheming to regain the throne. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest North. Amidst the war and political confusion, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and icy horrors beyond. The show features an enormous cast; Eddard Stark (Sean Bean) , Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Catelyn Tully (Michelle Fairley), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), Petyr Baelish, (Aidan Gillen), Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Robb Stark (Richard Madden), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), Sandor Clegane (Rory McCann) and Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). Game Of Thrones is easily one of the best shows to ever be made. I know I've said that many times before but this time I really really mean it. If you're expecting Lord Of The Rings, and I mean Elves, Orcs and magic, you're not going to find that here. What you will find is murder, sex and incest, conspiracies, swords and morally grey characters So... discuss.

You know, I've been planning on watching this series, but I haven't yet because I thought it would be like Lord of the Rings, which I just don't like. But -- maybe I'll give it shot soon.

Yeah, it ain't like Lord Of The Rings. It's dark, its thick and its characters are damn good, especially Tyrion. A badass midget? Hell yeah.
The series is DAMN GOOD. Go watch it. Now.

Okay, I'm planning on watching the first episode today xD Right after I watch the season 4 finale episode of LOST. I have high hopes for Game of Thrones. Everyone I've asked has told me it was one of the best shows on tv Though... I know people who say that Twilight is the best movie ever so... they aren't the most reliable set of folks lmao

I hate Twilight. I love Game Of Thrones.
I wouldn't say it was the BEST show ever made, I reserve that spot for The Sopranos or The Wire. However it is incredibly good.
I just finished the first season and I've never been as excited as I am for season 2. I'm also gonna buy the books the show is based on.
So far, my favourites are Tyrion Lannister (The badass dwarf), Arya Stark and Jon Snow.
I doubt you'll be sorry you picked up this series, it's damn well written, lots of shocks, badass characters, thick quick moving story, thick Mythology, lots of things other shows wouldn't even touch and excellent actors, even the child actors are great.
God I want season 2.

Oh. my. god. I hate myself right now, for not having watched this earlier. I am officially in love with this wonderful series! There are so many favorite-able characters here, the settings are stunning and I love the variations (Snow, beach, cold, sun, etc.) in them and it just never gets boring. It's too early for me to pick out a favorite, but so far I love just about the whole Stark family, minus the older girl who's not Arya (who is, by the way, awesome!) and has a crush on that annoying blonde boy. Sorry, sometimes I don't remember the names of characters I dislike. And like Carey said, Tyrion... a badass midget. What's not to love there?

The older girl is Sansa Stark and the annoying blonde boy is Joffrey Baratheon.
This show is quite wonderful, so I'm happy that you're enjoying it.

Alright, finished the season... and that was probably one of the most powerful ends to a season I've seen. Season 2, please come soon.

I wouldn't expect season 2 till around April.
And I must ask you. Who is your favorite character currently?

Ooh, there are way too many of them. As mentioned, I love Tyrion. I think Daenerys will become quite a favorite in Season Two, after the finale now. Arya's just awesome, Jon Snow is interesting. I liked Eddard Stark a lot too. Robb and Bran seem interesting too, so I hope we get to see more of their part next season (and Winterfell in general). I also like the guy with Daenerys, Ser Jorah, there's just something so likeable about that character. Sansa MIGHT become sort of likeable in Season Two, because of that moment in the finale, which was just brilliant.
Damn... I just named almost the whole cast, didn't I? Out of all these, anyway, I think I'll ultimately (for now) have to pick out Tyrion, Arya and Ser Jorah.

^Season 2... April 2012... they just had to remind us of the long wait there at the end, didn't they?
