BZN announces... THE FINAL FRONTIERFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for The Final Frontier, a revised take on Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, brought to you by P A. Wilson. Featuring the crew of the USS Enterprise, the series will showcase a brand new set of adventures for Kirk, Spock & crew in a fresh, reconceptualised universe. Wilson was quoted as saying: "I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to finally get The Final Frontier out to the masses. The concept has been sitting on a shelf collecting dust for the better part of six years and I'm so happy it's found a home here at the BZN. I'm a devoted fan of the franchise as a whole I love what J.J. Abrams has done to Star Trek in recent years. However my goal with The Final Frontier will be to go that extra step further and completely turn Star Trek on it's head, creating a true re-imagining." THE FINAL FRONTIER will air exclusively on BZN in 2014. graphic art by P A. Wilson

BZN announces... DOORS OPENFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for Doors Open, a movie adaptation of the celebrated novel by Ian Rankin, brought to you by Adam Scott (Batman). Set in Scotland, the story revolves around a group of misfit villains and an audacious art theft that doesn't go in any way at all to plan. Scott was quoted as saying: "I'm thrilled to have this be my next project for BZN. I'm a massive fan of Ian Rankin and this book, Doors Open, has always been a favourite of mine, a heist set in Edinburgh's art world starring a group of shambolic amateur villains who get a lot more than they bargained for when they enter the world of organised crime. Rankin himself described the project as a Scottish Ocean's Eleven and I'm delighted to be able to bring that to BZN this New Year." DOORS OPEN will air exclusively on BZN on NEW YEARS EVE. graphic art by Vaughn

BZN announces... STAR TREK: VOYAGERFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for Star Trek: Voyager, a reboot of the well known 1990's fourth Trek series and spin-off from Star Trek: New Generation, brought to you by Kyle West (Knight's Haven). The series charts the journey of the USS Voyager, flung across the galaxy into an uncharted region of space 75 years from home, as Captain Kathryn Janeway struggles to keep her crew alive from dangers within and without... West was quoted as saying: "This is a superb opportunity to tell the story of the starship Voyager, but in a completely different era of television storytelling. I want to push boundaries with this series, and really go places that the original series didn't. Just how far would Kathryn Janeway go to get her crew home? I'm not sure we ever got a definitive answer on that one previously, and so that's one of the core driving forces behind this series. I can't wait to start telling the story I've got planned out." BZN announces... THE LEAGUEIt's been a little under a month now since Lee A. Chrimes' ALICE'S ADVENTURES launched to exceptional (and deserved) acclaim - but one big question was on every reader's lips. The tag scene and its purpose - what's it all about? You were asked to wait. Now you don't have to wait any longer. As ALICE'S ADVENTURES is not, and was never intended to be, a standalone film - in fact, it's merely the first volley in the launch of a new shared universe - the wondrous world of Victoriana and the fascinating characters within. Alice was but the first film in this series - across the back end of 2013 and throughout 2014, there will be five more films to go, each showcasing a new set of famous characters, before a mammoth crossover event at the end of next year, entitled simply THE LEAGUE, written by me. But I'm not alone in this - joining me in writing this series of films are some of the most acclaimed writers on BZN - Lee A. Chrimes (as you know), Adam Scott, Chris Haigh and Tony Black - each offering their unique takes on classic characters. But which characters and worlds are being unleashed as part of this? I'll leave you to speculate on that for now, but I will dangle on last little tidbit for you: The next film in the series is entitled CAPTAIN NEMO: DEFENDER OF THE EMPIRE - and will be written by Lee and myself, to be released CHRISTMAS 2013. Until then, feel free to return to Alice's Adventures and sift through it for clues - as there are plenty scattered in there for the future... Pete D. BZN announces... STAR WARS: THE ORIGINAL SAGAFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for Star Wars: The Original Saga, including a revised re-release of A New Hope, followed by new and exclusive mini-series of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, brought to you by J B. Gibson (The Pillars). The three mini-series events re-imagine fiction's greatest space opera, telling once more the story of Luke Skywalker as he battles the evil Galactic Empire whilst learning of his one true destiny. Producer A J. Black was quoted as saying: "Almost two years ago, J B. Gibson brought to MZPtv his daring, grittier take on George Lucas' seminal first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, with every intention of delivering a trilogy of mini-series adapting the Star Wars saga for the Battlestar: Galactica generation. I'm delighted that now, after some coaxing, JB is excitedly working on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi for BZN, both of which--alongside a re-released A New Hope--will be major 2014 event series for the network and in the build up to JJ Abrams Episode VII in 2015, are sure to whet the appetite not just of Star Wars fans, but fans of exciting, dramatic and daring science fiction everywhere." Star Wars: The Original Saga will air exclusively on BZN across 2014. graphic art by Vaughn

BZN announces... RUNAWAYSFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for Runaways, the fourth BZN foray into the Marvel comic-book universe, brought to you by Chris Haigh (Every Major MZP Show ).The series focuses on a diverse group of teenagers who discover a shocking secret about their parents that forces them on the run and into a very battle for their own survival. Haigh was quoted as saying: " Runaways is a truly fantastic story and modern Marvel classic, that is very different from the kind of superhero tales that we're used to reading about, with some diverse young heroes to match. Here at BZN and thanks to the hugely supportive team behind it, I'm hugely, hugely excited to get the chance to adapt and tell some fantastic stories about growing up, family and just what makes a hero, and to tell them in a way that - hopefully! - will be as engaging, bright and hugely enjoyable as they deserve. Bring it on!" Runaways will air exclusively on BZN in the first half of 2014. graphic art by Vaughn

Actually 22-25 isn't always the standard count anymore - these days it's mainly just proceedural dramas that have such long seasons, or soapy shows, ones with fewer sets & locations & are much cheaper to mass produce.
Lost was probably the last major 'genre' TV show to run for that long before the On Demand TV revolution started to happen & TV budgets started to grow, nabbing stronger actors & delivering better scripts (sometimes). You get the odd series go to maybe 20 or 22 but they're rare now - The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Hannibal, House of Cards etc... all the critically acclaimed shows now average out at between 12-15.
Blame the global recession.

BZN announces... CAPTAIN AMERICA AND THE HOWLING COMMANDOSFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for Captain America and the Howling Commandos, the third BZN foray into the Marvel comic-book universe, brought to you by Tom East (Easy). The series, set in the 1940's, will feature the wartime adventures of Steve Rogers as America's greatest superhero, flanked by a myriad team of memorable faces as the eponymous commandos, as they seek to preserve life, liberty and to help win World War Two. East was quoted as saying: "For over seventy years now the Captain America comics and various other media have explored the adventures of America's most patriotic hero. This series takes Cap back to his roots as we explore his role in World War II and the heroics that made him the world's first superhero. I've always seen Cap as a hero who really stands for something that still rings true today - not just America, but the little guys who are so often overlooked and mistreated like Steve Rogers was. I'm thrilled the BZN have given me a chance to explore this rich comic icon and maybe even give people a new hero in Steve that they never expected." Captain America and the Howling Commandos will air exclusively on BZN in the first half of 2014. graphic art by Jay Everington

BZN announces... THE AMAZING SPIDER-MANFor our next new project, BZN is delighted to announce a production order for The Amazing Spider-Man, the second BZN foray into the Marvel comic-book universe, brought to you by new writer Andrew Bishop. The series, not related to classic Spider-Man series Gifts & Curses, will portray a different approach to the life of Peter Parker & his struggle to become a man with great power & great responsibility. Bishop was quoted as saying: "The Spiderman franchise has been a gem of a story mixed with the responsibility a superhero and with the struggles of keeping those that he cares about out of the clutches of the villains and monsters that he came in contact over the course of his battle. Now, thanks to the BZN admin team - I have the opportunity to tell a version of the story from my eyes and taking the characters that we have all come to know and love and putting them in the middle of a darker tale between good and evil and seeing if Spiderman can truly come out as the victor and be a true hero to all." The Amazing Spider-Man will air exclusively on BZN at some point in 2014. graphic art by Jay Everington

BZN announces... JUSTICE LEAGUEIt was yesterday revealed in BZN's inaugural Primer Podcast, that the first major announced 2014 project following launch week will be a Justice League series of movies involving the biggest and bravest superheroes from the DC Universe, brought to you by Jay Everington ( Spiderman: Gifts & Curses). Set during the height of the Cold War, Justice League will begin with a Superman movie project early in 2014 before, following the Marvel template of yearly releases, focusing attention on Batman, Wonder Woman and several other major DC heroes, eventually culminating in a Justice League movie. Everington will be spearheading the project, and it's very likely he will be looking for people on BZN to help him bring his vision to life. BZN founder A J. Black said of the project: "Jay has a quite remarkable take on how to bring the DC universe and a Justice League project to life, with a heady blend of superheroics fused retrospectively into a fascinating period of 20th century history - frankly I'm amazed no one has *quite* attempted this before, and I'm thrilled Jay is giving BZN what is sure to be a long-running gem of exciting & thought-provoking movie scripts". The Justice League project will begin with SUPERMAN: MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT, written by Jay Everington, which will air exclusively on BZN in the first half of 2014. graphic art by Vaughn
