Thought I would give my list
5. Star Trek Franchise
It was the science fiction show that started me off. I remember watching the Best of Both Worlds with my dad and just getting hooked. I own all of DS9, ENT and VOY as well as all the films and certain TOS episodes. Its an excellent series that has many moral meanings as well as a new way to explore what it is to be human. I think that DS9 was certainly the better series, but some of ENT was a lot grittier in places.
4. Doctor Who
Although I am not loving the new Doctor, the previous incarnations have been excellent. Even David Tennant grew on me and I quickly became a fan of his. However I was very disappointed with the latest and thought the writers have really run out of steam. The enemies have also lost their flair. However the original and new series are excellent all the same.
3. Sliders
Although the actual execution needed improvement, the concept and some of the stories were excellent and did give some great moments. I think that I am one of those fans who loves the shows despite its flaws, one of them being studio executives holding it back - the reason why one actor, and notably the best, was sacked from the show.
2. Firefly
I got this show on DVD for purely out of curiosity. But what yeilded from it was an excellent few days of brilliant television. there is no better way to have shown the sci-fi show.
1. Stargate franchise.
After christmas I will own every single episode, film and dvd produced by stargate and even a few books. The show in itself is excellent, story driven with drama and comedy combining nicely to create credible storylines. There is nothing much to say but I love this show and miss the production news coming from the WWW. I wish they were do another series.
Others considered
Alias, Battlestar galactica, OC, Friends, Sharpe, Ultimate Force, Red Drawf, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Apprentice.
