I'll always love seasons 1-4 the most, however I did still enjoy seasons 5 and 6. Seasons 7-8... not some much, but the show has gotten much better in it's 9th and final season.

One Tree Hill is one of those shows that slowly became overdramatic, repetitive, and kind of cringeworthy once it surpassed its fifth season, and while they've had some great episodes in between their sixth and ninth seasons, it hasn't really been the same since the characters were all in high school together, and the main cast were all still in tact. That said, THIS season has been insanely good. So I'm going to post my thoughts (in spoiler tags, of course) on the most recent episode, "Danny Boy", which MY GOD was heartbreaking. This episode felt like a send off for Dan, and there was no hiding behind the will he/won't he aspect of Dan's fading health which made the impact of all his scenes that much more heartbreaking. Dan's one of those characters who has always been the "love to hate" kind of character (I sometimes compare him to Lionel Luthor on Smallville), but the fans really full-on disliked him when he killed his brother, Keith, back in the early seasons (season three, I believe). Personally, I've never hated Dan. I think he's a seriously flawed character, looking to good but always doing wrong, even if his actions were justified. His entire journey on the show has been about redemption, and the minute he FINALLY obtains that from the people most important in his life, he dies.
It was sad to say goodbye. His send off was handled brilliantly, with flashbacks, and closure with Dan and his son, his ex-wife, his daughter-in-law, and even Jamie, but its still such a shame that he didn't make it through this like he always does. Keith came back to forgive Dan for killing him, and there's this scene where Dan looks at his family in the room where his body is, crying and upset, showing how much they truly cared, and ugh, it was heartbreaking! But you know, even though Dan is dead, I felt his whole purpose on the show was to find redemption, and so now that he has, it feels right to end his journey there. He will definitely be missed -- even though the show is over in two more episodes.
Haley and Nathan were reunited in this episode, and that was a pretty big deal too, after Nathan's spent the majority of the season kidnapped, and beaten up. Its become glaringly obvious that the show is at its best when it focuses on the "Scotts", and that entire family. Sure, Brooke is a great character, and she has her moments, but Dan, Deb, Lucas, Karen, Haley, and Nathan were always the best parts of the show, and they always carried it. The fact that this episode dealt with two other different subplots while Dan was in his deathbed seemed kind of distracting, and I think thats where the episode started to fall flat. I can't stand Clay, or Quinn's storyline this season -- it started off boring, and they tried to give it a twist with introducing this long lost son, but to be honest, its worhty of fastforwarding. Brooke's best storyline this season involved Xavier, who got put on parole, and let out of prison, and eventually attacked her again, but now that it wrapped up in last week's episode, I felt like she should have just fallen into the background for this one, rather than deal with her "daddy issues."
The idea of turning these characters' lives into a TV series, from Lucas' book, seems like a great lead in to the series finale. Hopefully that means we'll get to see some more flashbacks, and callbacks to the earlier seasons as we approach the final two episodes. There are a lot of characters on this show who have been thrown in to fill a void back when Lucas and Peyton left, and coming into the FINAL season, I've grown rather tired of sitting through their stories, when I mainly want to see how these 9-year-old-characters are going to wrap up. I definitely plan to go back to the beginning, and rewatch with no fastforwards (when I eventually reach this season again), but Season Nine has been great!
One Tree Hill has recently been known to be a drama series that has very little GOOD drama involved, but the creator has told us that during Season Seven, and Season Eight, he was constantly worried it was the last, and wanted to give fans what they wanted, making everything lovey dovey, and happyville, basically. So knowing this is the final season, he's really put some twists and turns back in, and its finally back to what the show used to be, which is more than I could have asked for. This is definitely not a series I've been attached with for all nine years (I stopped watching during the sixth season), but its something I have enjoyed on and off again, and I can't wait for the last two episodes!
R.I.P Dan Scott.

I have always loved One Tree Hill, but due to my busy schedule I have not been able to keep up with it once I've gotten to college. Knowing that it is in it's final season right now I hope that the show itself ends well and I will be picking up the complete series on DVD if it should be released. Will always been one of my favorite shows though because I felt like I grew up with the characters.

I really haven't been a fan of One Tree Hill since season four, but I will say this -- That was a brilliant send off for Dan Scott. Very believable acting, quality dialogue for a change, and it was great to see Keith's character again. I'm not a fan of Dan's character in the slightest, but he did give One Tree Hill, I think, what it needed to survive this long. I would have been disappointed if he had survived this episode, and that's not meant to sound evil. What they did is what they should have done, and I liked it

The most recent episode was really quiet, and nothing big really happened. I thought it was weird that after Nathan came back, he was gone in the next episode, but they eventually explained it and it made a lot of sense. I managed to catch the leaked series finale, and because I don't want to be a jerk and spoil it for anyone on the forum who enjoys/watches the show, I just want to say that I kind of enjoyed. But, you know, okay, no, I might need a spoiler tag, so -- You know how in a lot of drama/romance films, the last 20/30 minutes just has a lot of happy, romantic and lovey dovey moments where its all hopeful, and they've overcome everything and you know its over, but you just have to sit through everyone's happily ever after first -- thats what the finale was like. Which, in one way, it worked really well. But in another, it felt like there wasn't much of a plot, and it was just a lot of "moments" that were a nod to say "its over" to the audience, and move on. I'll review it after it airs. Anyway, One Tree Hill was a great show. It had a lot of ups and downs, but what shows don't, right? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that's what! Haha, no. I'm just kidding. The Master was a swing and a miss, right? lmfao.

I cried in the finale. Mainly because of the nostalgia. One Tree Hill was a great show ruined because they didn't know when to stop the series. Although, it's nice to see a show where there's a really happy happy ending.
