Episode #5-01: "Home"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 07/01/2018 — Episode title revealed as 'Home.' — TheVPN released a synopsis for the fifth and final season that revealed it takes place ten years after the end of Season 4. The 'Watchtower' showrunner told VSGuide specifically that the episode opens in Star City, in the year 2028. — While the present day storyline focuses on Chloe (Allison Mack) finding her way back to Gotham and a catalyst that forces her to stay there for the season, a flashback story set between Smallville and Watchtower will tell the story of how Chloe ended up in Gotham in the first place. — Two former series regular cast members will return in this episode as special guest stars. — The episode features a funeral for a major character.

Episode #5-02: "Compromised"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 04/02/2018 — Vera Farmiga guest stars as 'Sarah Essen.' This will be her first episode of the season. — An iconic DC Comics Batman villain will make their first appearance in this episode. It is believed they will play a major role in the upcoming season as one of the season's main antagonists. — The flashback story in this episode will center around Gordon (Dylan Walsh) in his last year as the Mayor of Gotham.
UPDATED 29/01/2018 — Episode title revealed as 'Compromised.' — This episode marks the first appearance of Lucius Fox (Charles Michael Davis), who did not appear in the season premiere. — Chloe (Allison Mack) learns about the serious threats Gotham is facing. — Producers told VSGuide that "a lot has happened in ten years, and returning to these characters after that much time puts a question mark on everyone's head. While we get a taste of where everyone's at in the season opener, it's in [episode two] where we'll learn who we can still trust."

She is expected to appear in at least two scenes - one of which is shared alongside Justin Hartley. Producers have revealed that the character has an interesting career ten years in the future...
UPDATED 25/02/2018 — Episode title revealed as 'Martyr.' — Producers revealed that the third episode of the season will be a big one for the character of Archer Sullivan-Queen (Jace Norman), who will have his own important journey and story to tell in the final season. "There's always some type of catalyst that triggers a hero's journey, and [episode three] offers that to Archer." — A series of flashbacks will tell the story of why Chloe (Allison Mack) has kept her past as Watchtower a secret from Archer, and explore her hesitancy to have Oliver (Justin Hartley) train him. — Archer will have his own version of the "wall of weird."

It's set in the year 2018, and is expected to feature a glimpse into what Batman's (Christian Bale) world, and the city of Gotham itself, looked like two years after the defeat of Maxwell Lord and the departure of Chloe (Allison Mack) as the city's eye in the sky. — Lucius (Charles Michael Davis) discovers something shocking that changes his life forever.

Episode #5-05: "Chasm"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 12/02/2019 - Episode title revealed as 'Chasm.' - While previous episodes have contained a "flashback story," this will be the first episode of the season that doesn't offer a cohesive story in the past but rather it will contain multiple flashbacks relevant to specific characters and their stories. - "This episode really examines our characters at a critical point in the story where the events taking place in Gotham have divided them to a point where they all have different goals, and different means of fulfilling them," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide, "While their individual paths may cross and align with others, everyone is really confronted with a specific choice to make by the end of the episode and that's where things may diverge." - The Court of Owls have a life-changing offer for one of the main characters.

At this point in time, Oliver is running a smooth operation as Green Arrow, beloved by the city, and surrounded by a team of heroes united in their quest to keep Star City safe against a new, prominent threat. - Former series regular stars Elise Gatien and Alaina Huffman will reprise their roles of 'Mia Dearden/Speedy' and 'Dinah Lance/Black Canary.' - Tony Goldwyn ('Scandal') has been cast as Bernell Jones, a reporter in Star City and father of Cissie King-Jones, who will cross paths with Chloe (Allison Mack) in the present day storyine taking place in Gotham.

UPDATED 1/10/2019 - Episode title to be announced. - DC Comics' Black Spider (Ian Anthony Dale) will be a prominent threat in this episode. - A significant event from Kate's (Deborah Ann Woll) past will be touched upon. While producers have said that a future episode will completely "flesh out" this pivotal moment in the character's past, "[episode 7] will reveal the very thing that's changed her life and the direction of her life." - Chloe (Allison Mack) crosses paths with an old foe intent on helping her in a very difficult situation that involves The Penguin (Toby Jones). - A flashback story recounts a tragic event that took place a day earlier. Episode #5-10: "Return"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 11/02/2020 - A version of DC Comics' Batgirl will be introduced in this episode. Producers told VSGuide that their version is styled from the No-Man's-Land comics (as pictured here) and will emerge out of the blue to save Chloe (Allison Mack) and Bruce (Christian Bale) from an attack by the Riddler (Joe Anderson). "Chloe is immediately impressed with her heroics and it diverts her plans from just stopping The Riddler to finding this new hero and recruiting them," series creator Jack Malone revealed to VSGuide, "It also feels like a direct callback to the [pilot] in a lot of respects with Chloe desperate to recruit a hero to the team - in [episode 10] it's the first time Chloe is back as the Watchtower and this is her first big mission and it just carries a lot of parallels to where this story began." - VSGuide has learned that Batgirl will be unmasked in episode 10 and is expected to be a character fans already know. - Oliver's (Justin Hartley) decision to make Thomas Bolt (Jay Hernandez) the Police Commissioner will come back to haunt him in this episode. UPDATED 25/08/2020 — Episode title revealed as 'Return' — This episode will be the mid-season premiere for Season 5. — DC Comics character 'The Riddler' (guest star Joe Anderson) is the main antagonist of this episode. He is expected to play a role in both the present and flashback storylines of the episode. The character was introduced in the Season 3 episode "Thief" (312) where he was captured by The Batman, and has not made any subsequent appearances until now. — The flashback story takes place mere weeks after the Season 4 finale, in a Gotham that has only just recovered from the war plagued by Maxwell Lord and the OMAC machines. — Producers told VSGuide, "As the title suggests, fans can expect more than a few surprise characters returning to the fold."

Episode #5-11: "Robin"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 25/08/2020 — Episode title revealed as 'Robin.' — Producers told VSGuide that this will be a "milestone episode" for the series as it finally introduces the character and very concept of Robin, and explores their legacy separate to The Batman. "We've had many questions about Robin throughout the past four seasons, and we were saving that particular story for [Season 5] our last," Malone explained, "We've chosen a specific character from the comics to introduce us to the legacy of Robin, and then we'll be navigating through the legacy of this hero with all those peripheral characters that have taken on this moniker." — VSGuide can exclusively reveal that Dick Grayson (Patrick J. Adams), Tim Drake (Logan Lerman), Jason Todd (Rhys Matthew Bond and Matthew Daddario), and Damian Wayne (Asa Butterfield) will all play a role in the episode, and that fans can expect two more characters associated with Robin to appear in some capacity. — Joseph Gordon Levitt is expected to return as The Joker for his final appearance of the series.

Episode #5-12: "Doomed"Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 11/05/2021 - Producers have confirmed the Justice League roster as Superman (Tom Welling), Wonder Woman (Bridget Regan), Batman (Christian Bale), Black Canary (Alaina Huffman), Green Lantern (Sterling K. Brown), The Flash (Lucas Till), Vixen (Meagan Good), The Atom (Ross Butler), and Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris). All cast members will appear in this episode. - Sterling K. Brown is set to play John Stewart/Green Lantern, while Lucas Till has been cast as The Flash. Both were referenced in the closing moments of the Season 4 finale ('Checkmate') but will make their Watchtower debut in this episode. - Former Smallville stars Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent) and Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl) will reprise their roles in this episode. - In an interview with VSGuide, series creator Jack Malone confirmed this episode will be an adaptation of the 'Death of Superman' comic book storyline, but with it's own share of new twists, for example, "In our universe, there's been more than one Doomsday that's surfaced on this Earth and been buried here, and so we get to finally address that in [episode 12]." - Kristen Bell will return as Hope Sullivan/Doctor Fate in the flashback story. - A promotional poster was released for this episode and can be viewed here (x). - Justin Hartley spoke to VSGuide about his character's conflict with the Justice League, revealing that the Green Arrow is not allowed any involvement with their missions due to his actions in killing Prometheus which resulted in the deaths of innocent police officers (as seen in episode 6, 'Outcast'). "In [episode 12], you get to see how political the Justice League is in our universe, and how there is a level of optics to it - so much so that Oliver is told specifically by Dinah to stand down and let them deal with Doomsday," Hartley explained, "Obviously from the few glimpses we've seen of this confrontation with Doomsday throughout the season - with Archer and everything he's going through - it's clear that Oliver does get involved and how much it doesn't go his way."
UPDATED 25/08/2020 — Episode titled revealed to be 'Doomed.' — While Archer (Jace Norman) deals with the consequences of his actions in the present, the flashback story will examine his role in Doomsday which has been heavily hinted at in 'Martyr' (episode 3). — Fans can expect to see an actualised version of the Justice League. — Smallville stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance are set to reprise their roles of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane, respectively.

"Fans of that relationship who have been wondering what changed between them will find all the answers to those questions in [episode 13]," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide, "It will also help navigate the question of whether or not there's hope for this marriage to be saved [in the present]." - Gordon (Dylan Walsh) receives a visit from someone he thought was long gone. - Actor Mitch Pileggi ('X Files') will return for his first appearance of the season, and final appearance of the series, as Jacob Kane. - Despite being slated as a big episode for the Helena and Kate relationship, "[Episode 13] is probably our biggest story for Kate of the season and focuses a great deal on her family history, her relationships, and figuring out what her future will be when the dust settles on this war."

After resurfacing in 'Adjourned' (Episode 9), "Selina's story will be told in [episode 14] and we will learn how she ended up in that prison on the night of the raid, and where she's been since we caught that brief glimpse of her," teased series creator Jack Malone, "This will also serve as our last story for Selina for the series." Malone further clarified to VSGuide that while there's every chance Dushku could surface in the remaining episodes of 'Watchtower,' [episode 14] is the last story to heavily focus on her. - While the flashback story explores Selina's journey, the present day story explores a promise Helena (Kayla Ewell) made to Selina, and her attempt to honour it. - This episode will introduce Selina's daughter, Maggie Kyle (named after her late sister).

"There is so much happening in [episode 15] but at the heart of it is the unravelling of a goodbye that doesn't become clear until the very end of the episode," showrunner Jack Malone revealed, "This is truly the part of the season where it becomes clear we're reaching the finish point and this ending is such a catalyst for that awareness because they've been a significant character from the very beginning." - Chloe (Allison Mack) and Bruce (Christian Bale) lead the resistance into war against the Two-Face Gang. "We've been building these two sides up throughout this mid-season run, and it's all been heading towards this confrontation," Malone revealed, "The moment Batman comes face to face with Harvey Dent will go down as one of the more memorable moments of Watchtower's history." - With close people around Oliver (Justin Hartley) becoming targets, he realises it's only a matter of time before Archer (Jace Norman) is in danger. - Gordon (Dylan Walsh) receives a vial of the Lazarus serum and is told to give it to the person who is destined to die on this day so as to rewrite their fate and save their life.

Episode #5-16: "Thorn" Written by: Jack Malone Produced by: The VPN UPDATED 24/03/2023 - Pam Grier reprises her role of Amanda Waller for what is likely to be her last time in the series. "We penned [episode 16] with an intent to wrap up Waller's storyline for [Season 5] and feel we landed on an ending that could very well serve as her last," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide. "Amanda Waller is one of the best DC characters, and we've loved bringing her back over the years, so there's a chance we'll try to do something with her in the [series finale] but if this is the end then it's definitely fitting." - A brief history of how 'The Agency' evolved into 'Checkmate' will be explored. - Ali Larter will reprise her role of Valentina Vostok, head of The Agency. Casting is a nod to the 'Trinity' series where Larter portrayed the DC character, although the continuities don't align. She is expected to appear in the flashback storyline. - Archer (Jace Norman) orchestrates a new plan to save Mia. Elise Gatien does not appear in this episode. - Griffin Gluck and Kiernan Shipka guest star as Brady and Cissie. It also describes the state of Gotham City after the events of episode 15. - A flashback story will explore Gordon's (Dylan Walsh) last day as Mayor of Gotham City. - Chloe (Allison Mack) will meet a very important character from DC Comics that speaks to the trajectory and legacy of another familiar hero. - Emma Stone reprises her role of Barbara Gordon in this episode.
