Review - The Vampire Diaries: You're Undead to Me
Wow. This had quite the turn of events. Elena puts one and two together and uncovers the truth on her own: Stefan is a vampire. Bonnie turns to her Grams after she appears to be doing magic without her control. Damon escapes and kills Vicki. There was a lot in this episode.
Just when I was getting to warm up to Damon, he goes and kills Vicki. I'm a bit upset about her death. At least, I think she's dead. For one, she was a character that seemed to be stuck in such a routine that she wouldn't be able to change her ways. She'll always be with the drugs and hanging out with the wrong crowd. I was hopeful Jeremy could help her, but he continued down that path too. I just hope by some slim chance that Vicki is still alive, or is found and saved. I hope that wasn't the ending to her story.
Elena putting the pieces of the puzzle together to uncover Stefan's secret was very exciting. I'm so happy that the writers went down this route, as opposed to him telling her. I really like the character of Elena now. She's less dull. She's grown a backbone, and isn't going to be sucked into this romance blind. Elena wants to know about his past, who is he, and ultimately, what he is. That last scene was so shocking: "What are you!"
As for Bonnie ... What can I say? Best. Character. On. The. Show. She's so interesting, and we've heard she comes from a long line of Salem witches, but I'm interested to hear more about her past. Her family. Whether her powers will manifest into something good, as opposed to being activated in moments of anger. I'm glad she fried that bitch that was all "you're car is a piece of a shit and always will be whether we clean it or not." She had that coming. But, Stefan did say Salem witches were good people in an earlier episode, so I'm guessing Bonnie will be no different.
I didn't like Caroline that much in this episode. Her family is explored though, which is interesting. Her father left her mother, or vice verse, whichever, point is they're not together - and now her father is in a relationship with another man. Caroline's mother is an officer of the law, and I think is struggling to connect to her daughter. Caroline came off as a bitch in this episode, so I'm not liking her character at all, really. The "Pilot" had some promising build up, but she's nothing like I expected her to be. I think partly because her character development was forced aside as she was under Damon's influence. But she seems better now, and she's still being a bit of a bitch. I want to see that Caroline who showed us her heart in the "Pilot." Who strives for something real, and isn't afraid to fight for it. Where'd she go?
As for Stefan, he definately is carrying the "lighter" side of the relationship between him and Elena. I love that scene in the kitchen where he's making her a surprise dinner, and he talks about all his favourite movies, songs, tv shows, and little things like that. He knows how to make Elena happy. But now that she knows his secret, that he is in fact a vampire, I think the relationship is in for a huge road bump. I just hope she understands Damon is a vampire too, so that she doesn't judge Stefan for these murders. Eh. I'll wait and see.
Overall, a great episode. A bit slow getting into the juicy aspects of the episode, but ultimately a fantastic installment. A lot of good twists and turns involved and again with some great character moments. 8/10.
So by now, I guess you can call me a fan of The Vampire Diaries. There are a few things that I don't really like about the show, but the good outweighs the bad. I'm excited to see where a lot of these storylines go, and the show moves really fast. A lot faster than I expected.
