The VPN Picks Up Chris Davis' Drama "Gangland"
VPN is excited to announce the commission of Chris Davis' "Gangland", a Crime/Mystery series set in a not-too-distant future where all criminals are forced by a corrupt government to fend for themselves on a remote, and deadly island. "Gangland," a Ninth Spectrum Production, was pitched to the network almost exactly one year ago, and after receiving a positive response from network executives and community members alike, its pilot debut on May 28 was a great success! Read the pitch & pilot here. The new series is executive produced by Chris Davis ("Trinity," "Hellbound) and Amin Caluk ("Land of the Living Dead"), with Jason T. Davis serving as a producer for the series. The pilot was written by Chris Davis. This marks the very first new series from the Ninth Spectrum production house, which has a multitude of projects in development for the future, such as spy drama "The Agency," dramedy webisode, "Screenwriters Paradise" and action/adventure drama "Trinity." Showrunner, Chris Davis adds, "the story of Gangland is interesting to write because it's told from two sides. One, being focused on the lives of those forced to live on this criminally-run island, and the other, focusing on the corrupt society and government that sent them there, as well as the people those prisoners left behind. It should get more and more intense from week to week, as we reveal more about these characters and the worlds they live in." The shows ensemble cast includes stars like Dominic Purcell, Melinda Clarke, Jeff Bridges, Idris Elba, Michelle Rodriguez, Peter Dinklage, Gina Torres and more! [Season One Opening Credits]Along with news of the commission comes an exclusive "First Trailer" for the new drama! Watch below! "Gangland" producers are hoping for an Summer-Fall 2014 premiere, but more information in regards to a release will come as production continues to move forward!

That's right folks, executive producers of theVPN's action/adventure series, "Trinity," have just confirmed the series' cancelation! Season two has been cut short and no new episodes of that story will be aired. But don't fret, there is a silver lining. We can also confirmed that in the past few weeks, a reboot of the series has been in the works and is planned to hit theVPN late 2013 - early 2014!
So there you have it. One door closes, but another one is being opened. What are you thoughts on the cancelation? Are you glad it's not quite the end for Lana Lang's journey, but a new beginning? Sound off below!

theVPN To Air "Buffy" Continuation in Syndication for Summer 2013!
VSGuide can officially report that network executives have been in talks with off-site writers about showcasing one of many VS continuations of the Joss Whedon cult-hit, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." But as of today, the discussion has ended, and we can expect more Buffy Summers and vampire/demon slaying action, this summer on theVPN!
We caught up with Network president, Chris Davis, who told us, "It's no secret that the Whedonverse is something theVPN was built on, from Jack Malone's Angel continuation, and Faith spinoff, to Matthew James' short-lived "Connor" series and Nicole Rodriguez' "Fabulous Cordy." There has been a craving for a piece of the old VPN for a while now, and this is our way of giving it to you; with syndicated episodes of an amazing Buffy continuation by the writer "Informant," plus all new promotional content, as well as the possibility for brand new episodes!"
The 22-episode season eight continuation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" can be expected to premiere on June 5th 2013, and run uninterrupted through October 2013. More information to come.

THE VPN APRIL 2013 VPN NEWS Last month, we saw the return of the hit webisode series Audition, created by Brady Brown. The webisode premiered with positive reviews, and has aired four episodes as of late, with the Arc 1 finale airing April 11th. And, wrapping up with spoilers, Easy, created by Tom East, has had several episode descriptions released. Check them all out! Recently, plans for the revival of the VSGuide Magazine, a monthly online-informant, which brings exclusive news, interviews and scoops, all of in a magazine-format. There is also a rumored plan to open up this magazine to any and all VS networks. And even though the idea is still underdeveloped, the possibility of adding those who would like to get involved is still on the rise. Along with this, a beta cover design has been released! Check it out: UPCOMING SERIES ON THE VPN "Imagine. A place where there is no limit. A place where everything is nothing but nothing can be everything. A place where ideas can be reality. A place that can warm your heart with love, or turn your blood cold with fear. This is that place. Where anything and everything is possible. Do you dare leap into the Void?" The Void is a fantasy/sci-fi anthology series developed by Carey Broadbent, with Amin Caluk serving as executive producer. What's unique about this new show is the fact that it's written by the fans. The chief editors of VSGuide are always trying to come up with new ways to broaden their brand, and release their news. That being said, the latest idea to be put in motion is one that has been circling around for years; a monthly online-magazine, bringing you exclusive news, interviews and scoops in a magazine styled format. The idea of a monthly magazine is not new to theVPN, as the network published a couple of them in mid-2009. However, VSGuide plans to open up the magazine, not only to theVPN, but to any and all networks, websites, and blogs within or connected to the VS world. The magazine is still very under-developed. All we know is that plans are underway to get more people involved in production of the magazine, as well as the VSGuide website. Hopefully we'll find out more in the coming weeks/months. Along with the above announcement, we were able to catch an exclusive glimpse at a beta cover design for a typical issue of VSG Magazine! Check it out below: So, what are your thoughts on the possibility of having an online magazine dedicated to VS?

'Winchester' Season Two Begins Production!
theVPN's young adult drama series, "Winchester," finished up its first season last Thursday with a drama filled two-part finale. Series co-creator and showrunner, Matthew James, has already confirmed that season two will go forward, as the crew begins planning to start production as soon as possible, he also expressed his 'excitement' in relation to the major changes being implemented next season. One of the biggest shockers is the fact that Jake Abel's character, "Blake" will not be returning for season two, leaving Blake Lively's character, "Tracy," as our new series lead. Showrunner, Matthew James had this to say about the character's departure, "Our show was never about "Blake." It was about a kid who goes to a new school, the show's core was about the people he meets there. I definitely see a show without Blake." Although Jake Abel was the first to announce his departure, he was not the last, as Dianna Agron, who portrayed the character "Cate Foxx" during season one, leaves her regular/recurring cast status for season two. However, she is expected to appear in at least one episode next season, as a special guest. After the fatal events of the season finale, it is uncertain whether or not Josh Zuckmerman or Alison Brie will return next season as fan-favorites, "Charlie" and "Lucy" respectively. Confirmation can be expected in the coming months as season two begins production. The first bit of casting news for season two has been released. The official statement is below: Colton Haynes, the Teen Wolf and Arrow star is set to appear during the second season in the recurring role of trust fund student Derek Pierce. Producers revealed that Derek is a womanizer with a rough exterior, but underneath this facade is a decent anti-hero. Derek will set his sights on one of Winchester's female leads. He will also form a close bond with one of the guys as well.Along with the above statement, co-creator and executive producer, Chris Davis is in negotiations to, at least, co-write the season two premiere. As of today, nothing has been confirmed, but when asked directly, Davis had this to say -- "I wrote the season one premiere along with Matt, and was greatly involved in the initial development of the series, and if asked to come back as a writer, I wouldn't say no. I've often wanted to be more involved in the show's production, but had obligations to Trinity. Now that I no longer have those obligations, in the same degree at least, I could definitely see myself freeing up enough time for Winchester season two."So, there you have it! If you haven't gotten yourself familiar with "Winchester" and its BIG set of characters, now's a great chance to read all 12-episodes of season one! If you're already a fan of the show, expect more exclusive updates on season two as production quickly moves forward!

It has been confirmed that "Trinity" executive producer, Jason T. Davis, has decided to bring his highly anticipated, but never-aired, post-apocalyptic fantasy series "Archangel" back to life! However, Davis told VSGuide of his plans to restructure the project, not as a full-series, or even mini, but a webisode series. If you don't know the origins of the project, you can find the original pitch here. The series' two leads, archangels "Michael" and "Gabriel" are still the prime focus of the story, although Davis expressed his desire to approach them in a slightly different manner. When asked to go into further details, Davis went on to say; "Originally, Michael and Gabriel were introduced as two warrior angels, sent from Heaven to Earth in order to stop the spread of a newly rising evil. With the reboot, my goal is to humanize them as much as possible, by introducing them as characters already living on Earth, within human society and being forced to rise to a higher calling when the Hell-on-Earth scenario becomes all to real."In regards to the cast, Rhona Mitra is reportedly still attached to the series as "Gabriel," but it has yet to be confirmed. As for Archangel's leading male, "Michael," originally to be portrayed by the late Andy Whitfield, has been recast for the third, and hopefully, final time. In the role given to Paul Bettany and Matt Cohen before him, comes Welsh actor, Luke Evans. When asked to explain his decision to recast Michael again, Davis said, "The character of Michael has always been difficult for me to imagine, especially after Andy's death, as I thought he was absolutely perfect for the role. However, Luke has the look; not the same look, but a look I believe fits very well for the new portrayal of the character."More in-depth details in regards to the plot and characters are sure to come once the series has been re-pitched to the network, but it sounds like we're all in for one hell of a treat!

NEWS POSTED FEBRUARY 15th, 2013theVPN Orders New Dramedy Series "Easy" From Tom East! It's official! theVPN has given a series order to the new dramedy pilot, "Easy," from Tom East, creator of projects such as "Inside Out," and "X-Men: Rebirth," both webisode serials on TEN, as well as the MZPtv original movie, "Perfect," which was released in March 2012. The half-hour dramedy series has been set to produce a total of 12 episodes for its first season, that will focus on the secrets and scandals of high school life in the fictional California town of Sunset Valley. A more in depth overview of the season can be read below: ''At his last school, Drew was the most popular guy around. Openly gay, he and his boyfriend were the school’s power couple. Things went sour after his mom hooked up with her boss' son - when her boss was their next-door neighbor. It was the last straw and finally the family packed up to move houses, moving all the way to Sunset Valley, CA. Newly single and confused about where he stands, Drew finds that life at Sunset Valley High School is going to be different. Somebody at the school has it out for him and all of his secrets are coming out once at a time."Most of the series has been cast, although a few key actors from the original pilot have been recast following the pickup. Jeremy Irvine will still lead the new series as Drew Cunningham, along with Chris Zylka, and Lee Pace, who have remained attached to the series in their respective roles. However, Holland Roden, Daniel Sharman and Matt Dallas are in the process of being recast. Emma Watson is our new "Chess," and Liam Hemsworth, will be playing "Brandon." Producers are still trying to pen down an new actor for Matt Dallas' character, "Isaac," but we have learned that Sean O'Pry, Marlon Teixeira and Colton Haynes are being considered for the role. Though their original characters have been recast, producers have hinted at the actors possibly returning to the series at some point in new roles. Production of the remainder of season one is currently underway by new VPN showrunner, Tom East, and has been slated for a 2013 release. More information in regards to production will be made public via the VSGuide section of the website.

Joss Whedon is a man who has inspired many writers on theVPN. The network itself has hosted a number of Jossverse spinoffs and continuations over the past four years of operation, including Faith the Vampire Slayer, and Angel: The Virtual Continuation, both penned by Jack D. Malone, who would later go on to develop "Watchtower." As well as the two short lived virtual spinoffs "Connor," created by Matthew James and "Fabulous Cordy," from Nicole Rodriguez. There was even a Buffy the Vampire Slayer continuation on the horizon that would fall under Malone's Buffyverse continuity, however, production came to a close before the series could officially premiere in 2010. Since then, Jossverse on theVPN has been fairly quiet, but it looks like there may be hope for it yet! There have been whispers of plans to expand on a Joss Whedon show, but it's probably not the one you're thinking of... That's right! "Firefly," the short lived, but highly loved, science fiction epic from Joss Whedon might be getting resurrected for theVPN. "Trinity" and "Hellbound" creator, Chris Davis, is the one behind the potential project, and had this to say about its future, if it even has one; "I've always said that my dream project would be to do something within the Firefly universe, but, out of respect for the quality of the show, never considered myself prepared, as a writer, to take on such a project. I still do not consider myself ready, but if I were to wait until I was half as talented as the people behind the show, well... let's just say it would never happen. Now that I've decided that I "can" do it, the pressing question becomes "should I do it?" Some things are better left untouched, and I understand that completely. Still, I won't let that stop me from giving it a shot , just to see if it works; and if doesn't, then I'll move on. Simple as that." |
Davis is currently developing the spy drama, "The Agency," along with Jason T. Davis, and has confirmed that to be his "main priority," leaving the potential Firefly continuation as a "one day" or (at the most) a "side-project." Taking time out to watch the series in its entirety, along with the film (Serenity), Davis tells us that if the project were to go ahead on day, he would continue the story Joss told, as Captain Malcolm Reynolds as his ragtag crew look for jobs wherever they can get them, whilst struggling to keep under the radar of The Alliance. The events that occurred in "Serenity" would not affect this project at all. So what do you think of a Firefly virtual continuation? Good idea? Or is the Firefly-verse better left untouched?

NEWS POSTED APRIL 20, 2012CONFIRMED: 'Archangel', to become Mini-Series After much discussion with network executives and the production staff of the struggling supernatural/horror series, the decision was made to turn the unaired "Archangel" series, created by Jason T. Davis, into a six part miniseries. Producers brought the idea of the switch to head executive, Chris Davis, who showed his full support, and wished the show the best of luck. Before this latest change of production, the series was set up, originally, as a full/standard webseries, then ultimately went the webisode route when the format was introduced to the network. Series creator, Jason Davis, had this to say about the mix up: "When Archangel got picked up, I never expected the wait to be this long. Being a bit of a perfectionist, though I know my work will never reach that level, I want to tell this story in the best way possible, which is why I'm sort of testing out the big three production paths available here on theVPN. I have faith that a 6-week miniseries will be the end of this craziness, and you all will finally be getting some scripts out of me. Thanks for everyone's continued luck and support. Hope to see you soon."Check back in frequently for new information in regards to the updated schedule. No air date has been provided, but the event is being marketed for Summer 2012.

CONFIRMED: "Watchower" Season 3 is a Go!!! In a conference with VPN's executive board and Watchtower's production staff this morning, the decision was made to renew the hit VPN action drama for a third year! Due to stellar ratings, and positively skewed feedback from long-standing and new readers & fans, the early renewal is being called a "no-brainer." As season two has been set to finish up its last string of episodes in June, plans in regards to season three are already being made. As of right now, Christian Bale and Michael McKean are the only actors who have signed on for season three. Justin Hartley, who steps down from his role as 'Oliver Queen,' showed his support for season three by stating, "It'll be great watching Watchtower, now strictly as a viewer. I'm interesting in seeing what new twists and turns the writers will throw at us next! Year three will be big." No news of lead actress, Allison Mack, being in season three, as her contract is still under negotiations with producers. After news of the renewal, Executive producer and Showrunner, Jack Malone, had this to say -- "I'm very excited about continuing the show, and have big plans for the third season."The Fall finale of Watchtower airs tonight! Don't miss the shows return, on May 21st, 2012!

Just In: VPN Orders Doctor Who Spin-Off, 'Bad Wolf' to Series! VPN opens up its Science Fiction section once again for 'Doctor Who' spin off! The network has given a series order to 'Bad Wolf', a 13-episode science fiction/adventure drama from 'Archangel' producer, Kerry Burkett. After receiving nothing short of positive reviews for the science fiction drama's pilot episode, "Bad Wolf," which will serve as a spin off series to BBC's 'Doctor Who,' has officially received a series order. The premise, taking place after the events of its parent show's fourth season, and being based on Rose Tyler and the "New Doctor" leaves room for a boatload of new, fresh and more unique stories to be told. First time showrunner, Kerry Burkett, will lead the series as she joins VPN's head writers. VPN executive, Jack Malone, had this to say about the pilot episode -- "My reaction is: brilliant! "Shadows the Past" could be described as an emotional rollercoaster, that marks the first adventure between Rose and Ten II - the beginning of a beautiful relationship friendship," Chris Davis added that 'Bad Wolf' is "a stylish take on a new journey for the Whoverse."Stay tuned for more information on the latest addition to VPN's 2012 Fall Lineup!
