I would like to start with how I totally agree with what Jay said. The addition of that first scene added exactly what the episode was lacking for me. Don't get me wrong, the original draft was good but by adding that scene it became great. I would totally read this religiously. Your dialogue was great. Each character has a distinctive voice. Their introductions were done really well. Your description painted the world beautifully. The story and idea is giving me The Magicians vibe and I'm living for it. Just overall great job. You've set up things for the next episode that I can't wait to see where you take us. Just a really great job! Would love to see this picked up.

Now that I am caught up on all of the webisode series here on theVPN, it's time to tackle something a little longer. I always find it daunting trying to read full-length scripts, but I recently remembered how easy it was for me to read Bitten and how obsessed I became with that show. So, I decided that another Darrin McCann original could be a good place to start. And the fact that there are only five episodes so far makes it easier for me to catch up. Lol. So here are my thoughts on the pilot-- Thanks, Jay for reading and reviewing. It was greatly appreciated. No apologies necessary. I promise that all the creatures within the show will be explained further in future episodes. The Box of Echoes plays a vital role in the first season and all it's history and secrets will be revealed. Seth's death is important for many reasons. Little clues as subtle or as out of place they may feel have been draped throughout the first five episodes. Seth will make an appearance in episode 108 and I promise it will not be a flashback. Yeah, Eve's dialogue was something I flipped back and forth with in the earlier stages of development. She's never been to Earth but somehow needs to find a way to be able to communicate with the other main characters. I was able to justify her millennial dialect with the idea that in Heaven she was still part of the collection of Angels, there for she could listen in on their conversations and their development of the languages through the years. And that's with all languages really. I like to think of Eve in the Pilot as a scared cat backed into a corner, hair on end, claws ready to scratch. A lot of her bravery comes from fear. She has been in hiding in Heaven, somehow someone or something found her and dragged her down to Earth. And there is no way she is going down without a fight. Yeah a lot of people were confused by her flashes in the Pilot. That's why I paint a bigger picture of what went down in the Garden in episode 102 and she explains it's entirety in episode 103. Yeah I try not to use flashbacks unless I feel it really necessary. I will admit that the flashback involving Reign was not originally planned for the Pilot but was a last minute addition. As for Eve and Lucifer it was there to show a few things, how Eve became an angel and the power her blood possesses, to show how Lucifer is a character that does horrible things for what she believes is the right reasons, and lastly to show what was very much the moment her rebellion in Heaven began. As for Lucifer's reasonings for her rebellion, that is something that is talked about it riddles in episode 102 and will be shown in the current episode I am writing which is 106. Azrael is like the Warden to a prison. He's going to do everything in his power to contain situations before they get out of hand. What better way to kill two birds with one stone then to send both of his problems colliding towards each other, ie. Eve and the demon. The reason Aemilia is not to be saved is because of Azrael's law which will be talked about in episode 102. You are absolutely right. Cobalt is loyal to Cobalt even though she will play nice with others if need be. When it comes to her alliances the one with Lucifer is stronger but not because of Lucifer. More will be explained and explored in the next four episodes. In the Pilot I used Diamond as a vessel for the readers as they entered into this world. He asked the questions that needed to be asked. His character development progresses as episodes go on. He refers to Eve as a catalyst to his self discovery. Yeah, I've had this fear of creepy children since I saw films like Children of the Corn and Village of the Damned. I knew from the beginning I wanted to showcase that fear in some way. I agree. That storyline was cut drastically due to length constraints. I needed to edit something down and that was it. Everything else seemed too important. The original script before edits involved snakes, exploding windows and maggot filled eye sockets. It also had Isaiah entering the classroom saying the Lord's Prayer. Maybe in the VDVD release of the first season I'll include the scene in the Pilot. Thanks again for reading and reviewing! I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully I was able to answer some of your questions without giving too much away. Lol. Thanks, Jay

This series looks really interesting Darrin and I'm looking forward to reading it! I love fantasy (and by extension supernatural) so this sounds like it would be right up my alley. Hopefully I'll be able to provide you with a couple of reviews once I start reading. Thanks for the interest, Addison!

Sorry it took so long, but I finally checked out the pilot and I’m hooked. 1x01: Stir of EchoesOkay…the pace was insane. So much was packed into this episode, but it worked. This is obviously a nod to you knowing the direction you want for the series and have a good grasp on the world that you have built here. First off, thanks for reading and reviewing! I really appreciate it. One of the hardest things, for me, when creating a universe is trying to get the readers on the same page but at the same time I don't want to overload them with too much information. A lot of the episodes or at least these first few episodes are going to teeter on that edge of too much information. It's a vast world but I am trying to give information that only affects this first season while hinting at things that will be further explored in season two. There's many easter eggs laid throughout these episodes. Small things, but important. Lol. Oops! Sorry. I'll send you a cheque for the work minutes lost. Lol. Like I said this world is vast and there's a lot of things going on that we don't see. It will all be explained of course but I'm trying to keep the story through the main character's singular scope of view. A part of Diamond's childhood will be explained in the next episode but will be explored further once Cora (Diamond's mother) is introduced. His parentage however is an on going mystery this first season. Eve will be explored a lot. She is a complex character with a lot of history. Her time in Eden will be talked about a lot within the first half of the season. Reign's past relationship with Seth is talked about in part but doesn't really get explored. I like to think that watching someone you love so much die in front of you would taint any image you have of them in a way that it would be painful at the very thought. Aemilia's journey started at the end of the episode. The same with Kylar. Kylar's big 'intro' isn't until episode 103 and Aemilia's isn't until episode 102. Well I appreciate the kind words! And thank you for reading!

**REVIEW** - Avery Strange | 1.01 Pilot
I just finished reading the Pilot and I have to agree with some of the points made above. I believe that you did a great job with the introductions of your characters and the teaser got right to the point of what this episode was going to be about. I agree with some of the comments above about the introduction of the paranormal element and the lack of certain amazement. To me it's more of a matter of how do you make your ghosts stand out from any other. What makes your ghosts different, original, what makes Avery Strange ghosts unique. I think the one element I really enjoyed, besides the strong dialogue banter between Avery and Fish, was his nightmare of his brother. Is his brother a ghost? Is his brother's apparition simply a thought inside his head manifesting itself? That's probably been my favorite part of this series since the beginning. The mystery surrounding Evan Strange... I mean Strong. Lol. I have to admit a part of me really misses the crypto-element earlier drafts of this series had. I look forward to how all this ghost mystery ties into his brother's death, if it ties in at all or if there's something else at play. Overall it was a good Pilot. The usually SPAG errors, nothing a few reads and edits can't fix. The introductions were solid, the dialogue was solid. Great job!

You are a writing machine, sir!
Finished editing the Pilot of Paradise Lost for re-release on Friday. Worked on some artwork for a fellow writer and got the Teaser and the start of Act I written for 106. Everything is coming along pretty good. I may edit episode 102 tonight and continue writing. I have this idea for a Christmas episode so my episode count may go up with the inclusion of this episode during the hiatus. So tonight after work I have options. Lmfao!

INTERVIEW EXCLUSIVE: PARADISE LOST SHOWRUNNER SITS DOWN AND TALKS US THROUGH HIS UNIVERSE Recently we got the chance to sit down with Paradise Lost Showrunner, Darrin McCann, who graciously put down the pen long enough to chat with us and answer some pretty tough questions. VSGUIDE: First off, lets talk about the official Premiere date. It's been over a year since Paradise Lost was officially picked up by the network. Why has it taken this long to get to a point where the show is ready to premiere? DARRIN: A total lack of focus. [laughs] No, I am a very meticulous person and a total perfectionist. I am my own worst enemy and it definitely shows in my writing in the fact that I second guess myself so often that it usually takes me one to two months to write one episode. It's not good. It also doesn't help that I have failed at Showrunning once before. VSGUIDE: You're referring to Bitten? DARRIN: Yes. I literally gave up. I let outside forces dictate what I had envisioned for the show and let their quote 'constructive criticism' really get to me and question everything I was really passionate about. It really wasn't until the idea of Paradise Lost that I started feeling that passion once more. However, after the Pilot was officially picked up I panicked. This was it. This was my second chance. The first few episodes I wrote were pretty much the same where I would write a few pages then the next day would go back and reread what I wrote and hate it. [laughs] This went on for sometime. It really wasn't until this current episode that I have ditched the ritual and just start writing. Consequences be damn. [laughs]VSGUIDE: Speaking of Bitten, from previous work, you're known for having huge mythologies. Can we expect the same in Paradise Lost? DARRIN: Absolutely. With Paradise Lost I did a lot of research into various religions. Their stories, their objects, their demons, their angels, their ideas. From this research I molded the mythology that is Paradise Lost. Sometimes I can get a little carried away. I have found myself a few times thinking to myself 'Tone it back', but it's hard when you want to tell the best story possible. I also don't want to make something so complicated that the reader doesn't understand what I am saying, or describing. I also don't want to brow beat them with 'this is this' and 'that is that'. Finding that happy medium can be hard sometimes. VSGUIDE: We know that Paradise Lost has Angels and Demons. Can you give us a breakdown of other types of creatures in Paradise Lost? DARRIN: Sure. There is a hierarchy of Angels, actually. There are The Thrones who are a governing group made up of Archangels. There are the Lightbearers who are The Thrones' army, for lack of a better term. There are Cherubim which are monsters with wings similar to that of a gargoyle. There are Unbounds who are Angels that have fallen from grace, they're still powerful creatures but cannot fly or have the power they once did. They're also prisoners on Earth, specifically in the city of Paradise. There are Demons, but they're rare at this point in time, however still exist especially when we see their hybrid offspring with Humans known as Cambions. Cambions are witches. They possess physical powers. The other end of the spectrum are Nephilim which are the offspring of Angels and Humans. Nephilim possess speed, agility, strength and are extremely fast. Perfect warriors. There are Transcendents which are called the embodiment of soul. As like in the story Dante's Inferno, there are multi-dimensions, heavenly and hellish alike. Transcendent individuals exist on every plane. They're chains that hold the dimensions together. They're also windows and even in some instances doorways to these other dimensions. There is also Witnesses who are born blind of sight but possess third eye sight. They're usually advisers to powerful, important individuals. There are a few other creatures that I can't really get into too many details since they're part of important storylines. VSGUIDE: So again, a huge mythology. DARRIN: Just a little. [laughs]VSGUIDE: What can we expect in the first season of Paradise Lost? DARRIN: Well, besides the creatures listed, you can expect a lot of soap opera drama. The core group of individuals that make up Paradise Lost all come with their own secrets and their own baggage. They all meet each other at different times throughout the story because this world is not suppose to know about real Angels and Demons. It's literally a law that could find a lot of people dead all in the name of keeping their existence secret. The first season also walks a fine line of what is good to what is evil. Who can you trust and ultimately what is true evil? There are a lot of enemies and very few heroes. VSGUIDE: Speaking of heroes, Eve, Diamond and Reign, in the Pilot we see them working together. Can we expect that from them throughout the first season? DARRIN: Not in the same capacity. Not at first anyways. The episodes that follow have them working together but with out knowing it. Each storyline is seen from the eyes of these characters but from different points. I think the third episode is the only one in which the main storyline doesn't affect them all. I think we'll see them really pull together after the mid-season finale and start working as a single unit. VSGUIDE: Speaking of units, what sort of relationships can we expect to see on Paradise Lost? DARRIN: Lots. Different forms. There is really only two romantic relationships that happen within the first season. I'm writing a little differently this time around. I have characters who I know who they are; what they're about. I have the plot and subplots that I know what is going to happen and to who it is going to happen to. But, as far as relationships beyond their initial meeting I'm letting them happen organically. If when I am writing and these characters are getting closer in a way that feels right to me I may add a little something to point them in that direction. When I wrote Bitten I went in full well knowing that Sara would be with Will, and Gwen would be with Jeremy, and Milo would be with Griffon. I'm not doing that in Paradise Lost. When I am writing if it feels right then it feels right. VSGUIDE: If it feels right do it. DARRIN: Exactly. My new motto in life. [laughs]VSGUIDE: Well, thank you for letting us in a little on the world of Paradise Lost. Good luck with your writing and we eagerly await it's premiere. DARRIN: Thank you. VSGUIDE: There you have it, folks. Inside the mind of Showrunner Darrin McCann. Have any questions or comments, sound off in the discussion thread and stay connected to Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost premieres Friday October 14th, exclusively on theVPN.

I was kind of hoping for a little more participation but I have to agree with Jon, Brady you picked the perfect choice. I see the film like Jason Bourne-like. Lol. The ball is now in your court, sir.

Just checking in. SO, although I have yet to finish this damn episode, because working full time is really becoming a huge interference in my writing, I have manage to get out 5 pages per day for the past two days. I am at the home stretch and I can practically taste the sweet victory of another episode under my belt. I may have also shot myself in the foot because I am now planning a FLASHBACK Christmas Special because I am a glutton for punishment and am also enjoying the stories I am telling. So, we'll see how that goes.
