i am an aspiring writer and i find it hard to write a story when i am writing it as a screenplay. i get to focused into what the characters are doing and where they are and were they are going to that i forget to write in how they are feeling and whats going to their minds. i need help to get all my ideas together so that what i write comes out as i am envisioning in my head when i am thinking about it and writing it down .

Honestly, what you have been doing is the right thing. Sometimes writers swerve off with screenplays in righting about how they feel and what they're thinking, when it should be showed, and not told to us. I, too, have added things like "her heart was racing" or something along the lines of that, which is probably not the best thing to do. But, as long as you only have lines explaining "whats going on in their mind" and "How they feel" on occassion, it should be fine. But its not necessary. We usually know that through DIALOGUE. JACK (scared) Are they still here? How they are feeling, is usually shown in the Parenthetical (the bracket of words). However, that's mainly how they, the character/actor, would say it eg. in a scared way. So, going into detail about what they're thinking, or feeling isn't necessary as the audience is more interested in how they act around the situation going on. Those two keys ARE important, but are not shown through lines like "she couldn't believe her eyes" or "she thought that would happen". Hope this helped....

I know this thread is pretty much dead, but anyway...
I try to stick to more what you would see or hear on television, than to read what they are feeling or thinking. I let the characters actions and dialogue show their emotions.

I am working on drafting a fan script right now, a teaser to an idea that I was developing for a fan fiction story.
However, after finding this site, I thought it might be fun to try my hand at scriptwriting, especially since I often times cast my fan and original stories anyway.

I actually have the same problem. I've been writing for years, but mostly in novel format so when I drafted over to giving screenplay writing a try... well basically I suck. I'm still new so I'm still struggling but mostly I read other screenplays and VS to help me improve and I really have in a short amount of time though I still have a long way to go. My advice? Use others as something of a default to help to figure out what style works for you
