ESPIONAGE An all new science fiction/fantasy series by JASON T. DAVIS Based 'loosely' on a novel series by Brian Lumley "The world is full of supernatural entities, disrupting the natural order of things... I know, because I'm one of them". PLOT SUMMARYAt the age of ten, Scott Mathis lost his mother and older brother to what the police concluded as a "car accident." But he knew that's not what really happened. His knowledge was not based on a gut instinct, but rather an encounter with his mother, from beyond the grave. He soon realizes that when his mother died, she passed onto him an extraordinary gift; the ability to communicate with the dead. But not only can he speak to them, he can obtain their skills, abilities and knowledge, as well. Now, 18 years later, Scott is recruited by a covert branch of the CIA, called ESPionage; specifically designed to employ those with 'Extra-Sensory Perception' abilities, in order to help bring down people like him, who choose to use their gifts in darker ways. But when Scott discovers the ugly truth behind his mothers death, and its connection to the company he now works for, he has a very difficult journey ahead of him. This story follows a team of elite operatives with psychic abilities, that use their powers to track down the most dangerous necromancers, leeches (similar to vampires) and psychic criminals. CHARACTERSScott Mathis is the very definition of an anti-hero. He likes to pick fights, he knows how to push peoples buttons, and he's so against the "rules" of society, you'd think they were against his religion. However, his outlook and persona is almost the opposite when he connects with the dead, as he sees them as better than the living. After he gets recruited by ESPionage, he gets entangled in a web of bloodshed, horror and deception, as tracking down a necromancer proves to be more difficult that he thought. (Portrayed by James Mcavoy)Tony Mathis is Scott's deceased brother. When both brothers were alive, they shared a strong bond. Following one another everywhere the other went, things didn't change just because one of them died. Tony is still a part of his brother's life, and even though a select few can see him, his death isn't as lonely as most. Tony, unlike his brother, has a very quiet and 'sweet' personality. (Portrayed by Logan Lerman)Lauren Clay is one of the first members of the EPSionage, and is known for her exceptional ability of precognition (ability to see future events before they occur). Lauren wears a rough exterior, often conflicting with other members of the team, but she has a soft spot for Claudine. (Portrayed by Katee Sackhoff)Jermaine Porter has the ability to locate any person or object by a method called "scrying." As a teenager, he used his ESP-ability as a way of finding priceless objects to trade for cash, causing him to be in and out of prison a numerous amount of times. Since catching the attention of ESPionage, he has become a better man, but is reminded of his criminal past quite often. (Portrayed by Columbus Short)Walter Reed is the sarcastic member of the group. He's always got something to say about everything that comes into his view, which can be both a good and bad thing. He has the ability to heal other people, but not himself. Whenever he heals someone with great enough injuries, he damages himself, causing him to resort to narcotics to lessen the pain. Walter may be unstable, but he is loyal to his mission and cause. (Portrayed by Ben Foster)Claudine Farrell can be said to be the leader of the group. She organizes them on a day to day basis, but everyone knows that she gets her orders from 'The Director.' She is very much a "motherly figure" to most she comes into contact with, and she makes it her job to teach Scott everything she knows about being a medium, because she is one herself. (Portrayed by Lena Headey)'The Director' is a very mysterious man. Not much is known about him; all we know is that he created the ESPionage division of the CIA. The rest is up to Scott to discover, as he attempts to find out exactly how his mother died. (Portrayed by Michael Emerson)EPISODE GUIDE(Descriptions To Come)1x01 | The Necroscope 1x02 | Counted Shadows 1x03 | Sacrifice 1x04 | The Iron Lady 1x05 | On Death's Door 1x06 | Sins of the Father 1x07 | The Second Coming 1x08 | Möbius Continuum Creator's NotesOkay, so I made this pitch because I'm hoping to begin developing it once my miniseries, "Archangel" has completed its run. The idea for this show came from a novel series called "Necroscope," by Brian Lumley, and while some concepts and ideas are from the novel, most of the story and the elements presented are completed original. The show will have a rich history, and mythology. The idea of psychics and necromancers is only an icebreaker, of sorts. I would say this series is a perfect mix between "Supernatural," and "Fringe," yet it will have its own distinct style and vision.

Wow, Jason! This sounds, just, AMAZING! So, let me state my thoughts...
The concept is something that I find can be super entertaining. I think it's fresh and unique, but I've never heard of the novel itself. I really like the idea of them being somewhat of a team and still have Scott trying to uncover the secrets involved.
I love your characters. They all sound just... WOW. I feel like they can bounce off each other really well, and can make for some awesome dialogue! The ones that really sticks out to me are Lauren and Walter. I really enjoy the abilities they have been given, and just their personalities. So, those are my favorites.
I can't wait to see some episode descriptions. I will leave a critique on those once they've been posted.
All in all, good luck with this. I think I'll be a fan once it develops. Best of luck to you, Jason!

@ Darrin -- Thanks so much! I hope to start the pilot as soon as "Archangel" is wrapped up! I'm very excited @ Brady -- Thanks for your support as well! If you get a chance to research or read the novel, I'm sure you'll love it The characters are the one thing in this pitch that I can take all the credit for, so I'm extremely happy that you like them You've got great taste as well, because Lauren and Walter, I think, will be my favorites to write. Thanks again, to both of you, for giving feedback so quickly!

Is it possible for you to come up with a bad idea? Like... for real. Everything you've decided to pitch thus far has been amazing! I've never heard of the novel before reading this, and after researching it, I see why you said "loosely" based. haha! Which is a good thing. That means that you will still be able to tell a new, original story. I'd say this series was just a whole new story, set up in the same universe as the novel. It just seems that different and unique. Now, onto your show -- the characters are great. I can easily see myself really getting involved with them and their development. I know you, so I already know there will be a lot of mystery in this show, which is always good. I agree with Brady; I think Walter and Lauren are especially amazing. I'm also going to add Claudine. I tend to like those "motherly figures" because they are what keeps a group together. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how all of these characters interact, because they're all good Looking forward to seeing the episode descriptions whenever you get to them! And I can't wait for more developments!

I want to make this series very character driven, so it's important that all the characters work well off of one another, and stay interesting. Stylistically, I'm going to try to put these characters in the vein of those from "Lost," or "Battlestar Galactica." Awesome! Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts once the pilot has been completed.

If the characters are as intense as those from Lost or BSG, then this is will surely be a success!

This has such a great concept - I'm trying to think of ways to add on to what everyone has said so far, but I can only share their love of this pitch. Your characters all have qualities that make them stand out on their own, I especially love how your main character perceives the deceased characters are "better" than the living. That really opens up a series of questions as to why his views are this way that I think would be great to explore.
Personally, I would love to see a pilot for this -- the idea is creative, and original, and I can find certain elements involved that would keep me reading. Your pitches are ALWAYS amazing, Jason, and I think you have a great talent here. I can't wait to see more of this, and I can't wait to see Archangel as well. XD

Wow, this is honestly a really great pitch, Jason. The concept, the character mix and the casting are all perfect, if you ask me. This is definitely a fresh and engaging idea you have here. At first, I got the idea that this was going to be something similar to Ghost Whisperer but it has a lot of different mixes. I haven't heard of the novel that inspired you to come up with this but I'm really interested in having a read.
I can already see the character interactions in my mind and the clashes and how they will work as a team. I'm really drawn to the characters Scott Mathis, Lauren Clay and Jermaine Porter. I just see a Nikita kind of relationship where there's a unit together and there are primary two-three who run the show. I don't know how you'll be approaching it but I'm definitely looking forward to it. I'm curious to see Tony Mathis' role in this and how long he sticks around for.
A really great pitch, Jason. I loved it!

Hopefully that attitude will come across in the actual writing. Thank you, Jack! I really glad you like the idea.

Wow, this is honestly a really great pitch, Jason. The concept, the character mix and the casting are all perfect, if you ask me. This is definitely a fresh and engaging idea you have here. Thank you, Megan! Really glad you like the pitch and idea. Even though this is based on a novel, I tried my best to establish my own style and tone to really make the show my own. I was never that huge a fan of "Ghost Whisperer." Not that I thought it was a bad show, but I just never got into it. That being said, I'm glad it appears to be different, because this topic can sometimes get a bit repetitive. I'm glad this idea still has a "fresh" feel. And you should definitely check out the novel series. In my opinion, the characters can make or break a show. I really pay attention to them the most, because they are what drives the show, and what most readers pay attention to. That being said, I'm really glad you like the mix of characters I've come up with, and I like your thoughts on the tone you think these characters will set. The reference to "Nikita" is quite similar to what I imagined and planned in my head and outline, and I think it's something that will work very well with this lot. Tony Mathis is a tricky one. Only two people in the main cast can actually interact with him, and he's a MAJOR character of the season. I don't know how long I plan to have him stick around, but I hope the character will be just as fun to follow as the living characters (hopefully) will be. Again, thanks for the feedback, Megan.
