Mortals blame us for what isn’t our fault and that sucks. But you know what. If we want to make any progress for our rights we need to make a stand and not just dance around casting little love spells.
In the year 2018, witches, seers and psychics became exposed to the world after a magical, addictive, dangerous drug became widely popular among the public. Overdoses from the drug caused thousands of death across the globe creating a strong prejudice against the magical community before anything about them was publicly disclosed.
Across the globe rights for “Advanced citizens’ or the less acceptable term “abnormals” vary. In some countries the battles between the magical and nonmagical have escalated into full blown wars. In the U.S. and U.K. the rights for “Advanced citizens’ are below humans but they still have most basic rights and are legally unable to discriminated against for their nature. A lot of types of magic are deemed illegal even for ‘good’ uses. However, witch-hunters still exist and most witches have no means of protection against them for fear of damaging their public image further.
The series centres of a group of three Advanced Citizens who decide to keep their identities a secret from the world around them. Cath Simmonds, a witch, Joel Hart, a Healer and Morgan Tachman, an aurite live in Harkhan, a district of Windark. Windark's a major city situated on one of the biggest magic convergences in America but it’s also one of the most discriminative places towards Advanced Citizens. They try to fight for their rights whilst keeping their identities hidden from those around them. However, this may be all thrown out of balance when Joel falls for a passing witch-hunter, Brendan Moore, Cath accidentally reveals her true identity to her boss and Morgan is distracted trying to find her missing sister.
Meanwhile the country itself is torn between supporting Advanced Citizens and even expelling them from the nation completely. The current president, Howard Burns, is facing disapproval for his Abnormal Rights campaign from both his political party and the country. The rival party leader, looks set to win the upcoming election with his promise to strip every single right from Abnormals and throw them out of the country.
Catherine “Cath” Simmonds, is a 30 year old witch who works as a barista at the coffee shop “ Downtown Coffees”. Headstrong, confident and street smart, you wouldn’t want to cross her path. The only people who know her secret are her family, Joel, Morgan and her boss Ryan Parker. She accidentally tells her boss that she’s a witch when casting a hidden thought revelation spell, unaware that it worked both ways. Her family come from the Mitchell line which originally where some of the most powerful witches in the world. Her only family left is her Grandma who she often visits for advice with her magic. She hates having to keep her secret and is desperate for rights among her kind. It upsets her that even though they are classified as Advanced Humans, they are looked upon as below Mortals. She is confident in her craft but is quickly escalating to strengths even she is unsure how to control.
Joel Hart, or “Jo” as he is sometime referred, to is a 27 year old empathic healer, with the ability to feel other feelings as well as being able to heal people with a strong enough emotional bond. He is kind, smart and empathic to others, making sure to hear their side of the story before judging anyone. He has a poor relationship history, as being gay in an almost exclusively straight area, but is not ready to leave his comfort zone. His parents live in the outskirts of the city but he rarely visits them as he works and lives in the center. He’s best friends with Morgan and Cath and no one could replace them in his heart but passing witch-hunter, Brendan, who seems to share his mutual interest, could be set to change that.
Morgan Tachman is a 29 year old aurite, an Advanced mortal with the abilities to pick up an objects residual infomation, read auras and project her aura into a corporeal form. She is outgoing, quirky and fun-loving and will always crack jokes, even at the most inappropriate moments. She lives with Joel and they both get along well, despite their sometimes contrasting personalities. She never seems to have a steady job but currently works as a checkout clerk at the Quick-Mart. Unlike her friends, Morgan is publicly acknowledging her status as an Advanced Citizen, as this causes her to face frequent racial abuse. Her sister was kidnapped by an anti-abnormals radical group and she is desperate to save her, even though it may attract more attention to herself then she needs.
Brendan Moore is a 29 year old witch-hunter who works publicly for a spice shop, which is also secretly used as a base for his witch hunting operations. He takes over the spice store which Cath uses to buy her witchcraft supplies, constantly putting her at risk of exposure. Little is known about him and he is saw as mysterious but most people realise he is a relatively nice person and treat him kindly. His background is also mostly unknown to people. He was drove to hunt witches after daemons stalk his family which he believes to be caused by witches. He has no known alive relatives. He appears to have interest in Joel but it unaware he is a healer.
Howard Burns is the current president of the U.S but it looks like the upcoming election may be set to change that, with his rival's anti-abnormal campaign recieving more followers than his opinion on pro-advanced citizens. Most of his political party are against him and even his wife doesn't agree with him. But a strong man, he is desperate to make sure other people are safe and treated fairly in the country, even he loses everything in his path for justice.
Ryan Parker is the mortal boss and friend of Cath Simmonds, who works at Downtown Coffees. He knows Cath's secret but is unaware that her abilities are limited. A bit dimwitted he doesn't realise how much the world is against abnormals and that they are really just like human beings.
Willa Tachman is Morgan’s telepath sister. She is thought to be kidnapped by an anti-abnormals group who side with George Lawt, the president's rival. Morgan is currently desperate to find her. No matter what the cost. She was a nice, popular, smart girl who was different from her sister. She was discovered the be an abnormal by her friend, who traced her connection to Morgan.
Greta Simmonds is the witch grandma of Cath Simmonds. She lives in a village outside of Windark. She is a powerful witch and often acts as a mentor to Cath for both magical and mortal problems.
Jaime Ray Newman
The First Lady of America, she is against her husband's opinion on Abnormal rights. She threatens him, that if he goes through with his plans, she will leave him and take their children. A family friend died from an overdose of the magical drug, which most of western world believe was created by abnormals.
George Lawt is the oppositon to the current U.S. president. He is highly racist to Advanced Citizens and wants to remove them from the country. So far he has gained a massive following and looks set to win the election. His hatred of abnormals stems from his wife becoming obssessed with abnormals to the point she killed herself and their children to gain their attention. George blames this on advanced citizens and thinks they should deserve to be punished for wrecking his life.

Abnormals is an hour long supernatural drama with occasional mature elements . If picked up I have plans to take this vs into further series with expanding plots.
In the show the species are shown are not the only ones and as well as already known supernatural creatures, I will be creating some of my own (e.g. aurites just about) to appear. However, no vampires, werewolves or zombies etc. are to appear as I would like to keep this show as supernatural as possible without bordering onto horror. Aditionally each season the human point of view will change. This season it's the government but next season I plan for it to
be citizens of a district rocked by the aftermath of this season.
At the moment, this pitch is currently unfinished and I am just tweaking at the details. Hope you like what I have so far.
