Supergirl

Summary: Its been 5 years since Kara was last seen. And a lot has changed for her since then. After jetting off to the future and joining the Legion of Superheroes, Kara finally felt for the first time that she belonged. But that all came tumbling down when Kara discovered that her destiny was to die. Before she had a chance to see anymore, the Legion caught her. Fighting off her attackers Kara time jumped back to the past in the hopes that Clark could help her.

Her plans fell apart when she arrived back to metropolis and the city is not how she remembers it. After seeing no reason to stay, Kara sets up shop in Chicago. Along the way Kara gains new allies in budding reporter Wendy Harris, Bludhaven transfer Detective Elias Powers, and tech savvy blogger Mal Duncan. This group must band together to protect the city from the spread of corruption.

But when whispers of Celestial Center, an up and coming research facility, starts making waves in the city of Chicago, Kara and her crew must find out their plan and put them down.

Being the cousin of Superman may have its perks, but KARA KENT cant seem to shake the shadow of her famous cousin. Brave,mysterious,and headstrong, Kara is just trying to stay afloat. After seeing that she was destined to die, Kara time jumps back to the present hoping to change her destiny. But when she arrives in metropolis and cant locate her cousin anywhere, Kara moves to the city of Chicago and decides to handle this one solo. Cut off from any source of help and alone from help, can Kara cut it as a solo hero and change her fate, or is she destined to fail?

Always one with a quick retort or a snappy one liner, MALCOLM "MAL" DUNCAN is Loyal, sarcastic,and a complete genius.After completing a stint at MIT, and losing the love of his life, Mal returns to chicago in the hope that he can get back to his roots. Seeing how deep the corruption goes and how long its lasted, he uses his tech savvy know how into bringing the criminals to justice through his blog: Gabriel's Horn. With his city still falling into despair, Mal decides to hang up his keyboard, that is until Supergirl comes to town...

Star Reporter and seeker of truth, WENDY HARRIS has always been one to never turn down a story. Born into a dysfunctional family where her father is a criminal and her mother ran off after she was born, Wendy handles all life throws off at her with an air of indifference but thats just a cover to hide the fact that she is very lonely. Being taken in by her uncle Harvey, Wendy finally got the father figure she always wanted and it helped her find her calling in reporting. Getting a job at the Chicago Tribune, Wendy has gotten her career off to a good start. But when Celestial Center and Supergirl make their way to Chicago, Wendy might finally have the story to cement her career as a journalist.

Born and raised in a cop family, ELIAS POWERS destiny was already laid out for him. Cocky,arrogant, and daddy issues a mile wide, its a wonder Elias hasnt had a breakdown. Having grown up with a tough as nails police captain as his father, Elias always tried to to get his fathers approval and love, but is time and time again shut down and dismissed. Finally hoping to make his father proud, Elias requests a transfer to Chicago Police Department. Now stationed in Chicago, Elias hopes to make a name for himself. His first order of business: Capture the Vigilante named Supergirl.

An enigma no one,not even her employers can understand, KAREN STARR is the current director of Cadmus Labs. With the revision of Cadmus from Lex Luthors clone factory, to a covert initiative hunting and studying metahumans, Karen sets up shop in Chicago in order to begin her plans for Cadmus. But that all comes crashing down when Supergirl makes her debut.

Tough, smart as hell, and kickass only scratch the surface as to who NATASHA IRONS really is. With an absentee father,Natasha took John Henry as a surrogate father figure and the two were inseparable. Although in the back of her mind, Natasha feels like she hasn't had a chance to blossom into who she really wants to be. The final nail in the coffin was her finding out that her uncle works for Lex Luthor which caused a rift between the two. With her faith in her uncle damaged,Natasha moved away to Chicago in the hope for a change of scenery and a life away far from Lex Luthor. But that all changes when Supergirl and Cadmus enter her life.


Mysterious, Elusive, and Vexing are the main qualities and characteristics of OMEN. Not much is known about this young woman except for the fact that before she went by Omen, she was known as Lilith Clay.Neither good nor Evil, Omen doesnt play sides and never likes to get her hands dirty. But when Supergirl and the Celestial Center appear in Chicago, she soon realizes that her neutrality must come to an end if she wants to survive.


Snobby,arrogant, and rude just about sums up ZACHARY ZATARA. Born with a massive chip on his shoulder, Zachary always stood in the shadows of his older cousin Zatanna and always felt he needed to compete to gain the attention of John Zatara, his uncle. When his cousin was left the estate of Shadowcrest after the death John, Zachary cut himself off from Zatanna and fled to Chicago hoping to forge his own path and make his uncle proud. When Celestial Center begins to make their appearance in Chicago and start taking Metahumans, Zachary realizes that he might be able to make a difference in his new home.

When a series of murders start happening around the city, Kara and Mal form a shaky alliance to solve the murders. But when a difference of opinion causes them to fall out, can the two work together to stop this killer before its to late?

Worried that Supergirl might figure out what Phase One is, Karen hires Jade Nguyen aka Cheshire to take her out. But things get more complicated when Legionnaire's Dawnstar and Karate Kid come from the future with a mission to take out Supergirl.

1.04: Isis
Tagline: “Helping the Helpless”
As Wendy starts taking Clients for the newly opened branch of the Isis foundation, a series of meta-related deaths start popping up around the city. With Kara and Mal both preoccupied with Celestial Center, its up to Wendy and Zachary to get to the bottom of these deaths.

1.05: Steel
Tagline: “Maiden of Might vs Girl of Steel”
When a lead on the Celestial Center leads Kara and Mal to a criminal organization calling itself the Council, they decide to investigate. But their investigation is cut short when a new armored vigilante appears and stirs up trouble.

1.06: The Woman In White (Mid season finale)
Tagline: “Evil Inc.Goes Global”
When Celestial Center reveals itself as medical/scientific research facility, Kara interprets this as an act of war and prepares for battle. But things get even more complicated when they unveil its newest creation: Powergirl.

1.07: Memento Mori
Tagline: “Nothing Stays Buried”
While recovering from her encounter with Powergirl, Kara reflects on her choices and decisions leading up to where she is now, while Mal and Wendy enlist the help of Omen to track down Zachary.

1.08: Chaos
Tagline: “Whats Order without a little bit of Chaos”
When a series of bombings happen around the city are perpetrated by a masked man calling himself Anarky, Elias enlists the help of Supergirl in order to take him down. Meanwhile Mal and Natasha team up to capture Powergirl.

1.09: Powergirl
Tagline: “Looks like there isn't just one true blue Supergirl.”
With Powergirl captured, Kara finally learns the truth as to why her and Powergirl share a connection. While Brainiac 5 journeys to the past and convinces Mal to make a bold move against Celestial Center.

1.10: Retaliation
Tagline: “Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold.”
After having her identity leaked online, and being hunted by the Celestial Center and Supergirl, Powergirl reveals her trump card that changes everything. Meanwhile Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5 arrive from the future ready to spring their trap.


1.11: Battleground
Tagline: “All Fall Down”
Powergirl begins her assault on the city with her army of clones. With Kara missing, and the city falling to ruins, Its up to Mal and the rest of the gang to save the city.

1.12: Aftershock (Season Finale)
Tagline: “The Choice is Your’s.”
3 weeks after the defeat of Powergirl, Kara gets a visit from an envoy of New Krypton explaining she must leave earth immediately. While Mal and Wendy assist Zachary in finding the missing metahumans.


A/N: SO this pitch isnt a 100% complete....yet. BUT, i wanted to give you guys a showing of what I have been working on for the past couple months. I have sat down and talked to Jack and Alex and have worked out how this can play in the sandbox as the others. I hope you all enjoy the little slice of the VPN smallville verse I bring out. The rest of the pitch will be completed soon. WHILE the pilot is being outlined and retooled.

I'm really interested to see how you're going to differentiate this from CBS' Supergirl, and then Smallville. I think it's important not to rely too heavily on either one, especially the later. In fact, I would try and make this as little related to Smallville as possible. I know it's technically a spin off, but make sure it's more thant just that. I don't think Kara had enough time on Smallville, so to see you give her a continuation has me intrigued.

Your characters, and how you're bringing them together, also has me interested. Cadmus Labs is a great storyline to try and take on, so it's going to be fun to see how you can weave Supergirl into there and how much you're going to borrow from the comics, if any.

But yeah, you have me interested!

Perfect . Thats the plan!

I want you all to be intrigued. I've written this with the idea Chris and I had back in the day for the Trinity Reboot. Keep it condensed. Tell your story in 12 episodes. So from that I have crafted Season 1. Alot of heart was put into it. So i hope you guys enjoy.

This idea came from rewatching Season 7-10 of Smallville.I get from a story point that keeping Kara on smallville would have changed alot of what happened in the last three seasons. And dont even get me started on the whole "going to the future" thing. SHE DIDNT EVEN GET TO TALK TO HER COUSIN. And that is one of the many things that irked me about smallville. BUT from this scene and particular story I was able to incorporate a tale about what was next in the life of Kara Zor-EL

Funny you should mention the CBS's Supergirl. I did the bad boy thing and watched it, (Still think CBS leaked it on there own....but whatevs), either way that show has a WAY different story they are telling than I am. I realized that the comparisons are gunna happen and Im okay with that. Im sure their Supergirl will be great. I want mine to be that great aswell.

As for the connectivity between Watchtower, Smallville, and the M:SCU. This spinoff takes place after Season 3 of Watchtower and Season 1 of M:SCU and thats pretty much it. Sure Lucy and Kara have there connections to Smallville and Natasha has a connection to John Henry on SCU but im not touching those with a 10 foot pole unless the story calls for it. Jack and Alex have there own things and as much fun as it would be to stick Team Watchtower (Its catching on) and Team Supergirl (Totally a thing in the comics BTW. TAKE THAT JACK ) and SCU for a gigantic crossover, I dont want to push my luck just yet

Cadmus was the best logical sense. Heavily inspired by how prominent of a threat they were in the cartoon to the Justice League and also on Smallville for being a cloning lab/Cabal of normal people trying to keep the world safe from the metahumans they feared. SO i decided to tap into certain aspects of Cadmus to use. You'll just have to wait and see.

The Cast....the HARDEST thing i had to decide on. So I did my research, (Basically Jack and I talked and he told me who I cant use.), and took some players with ties to Kara (Whether Comic Book/Smallville) and threw in a couple of my own made up characters and this is the hodgepodge bunch you have here.

I think most of you will be shocked with what I have in store for Miss. Lucy Lane. Im gunna be honest though....dont expect Lois to be making any trips to see her sister. I of course am excited to fill in the blanks as to why she wasnt at Lois' wedding and where she has been since then. And get used to this cast. When the potential Season 2 comes out, this is going to be the same cast.

Well you're in luck. Kara is a character who has gone through SO many changes, so I decided to honor that. Her storyline in season 1 is basically how far is she willing to go to change the destiny laid out for her. So I think you'll be surprised by what I do with her character

This is a pretty solid pitch, man. I have to agree with a lot of what Brady said.  But to add to it, I will just say what I've already told you in our PMs, and that's to really sell your protagonist.  I know you're heaps interested in building up this team, but even tackle that as a journey and a development on its own for that first season.  Not everything has to fall into place in that pilot to solidify a team.  Focus on Supergirl, on her journey, and make it as organic as possible, really.  If you look at "Arrow", that team took seasons to build, and while it grew into a trio for those first two seasons with Oliver, Diggle and Felicity, the true "Team Arrow" from the comics is only just being touched upon now with the inclusion of Thea and Laurel.  

Despite having a back and forth on whether or not to use the Lucy Lane character on Watchtower, I think she definitely belongs on this show because you have this parallel between her and Kara that is about forging their own path away from what they've known their entire lives. I think it goes hand in hand to stray from "Smallville" and even the current two spin offs on theVPN as well if you really want to sell this own path for her, you know?   I think even using Lex Luthor and Cadmus Labs is a bit too easy.  It would be nice to see Supergirl have her own enemies away from Superman, and if there aren't a whole load to draw from the comics, creating your own villains would be a nice touch too.  Create Supergirl's version of Lex Luthor, and Supergirl's version of Doomsday, etc.  

Lastly, are there any plans to tackle elements of her future coming back with her?  Any foes from the future that jump ship and follow her back to the present?  And if so, how much of this future she comes from is set in stone, and how much does it change by her leaving it?  I think it's always cool when shows tackle futuristic storylines and potential multiverses and things that I know DC Comics does in their actual comic book storylines.  Could the future she left from be deteriorating and she was forced to leave in order to survive -- similarly to being sent away from Krypton to live on Earth -- or is it only just a matter of wanting to be her own hero, and shape her own destiny away from the Legion, and the Justice League, and her cousin?  Those are my questions

Honestly I was waiting for you to respond.hahaha.Team Supergirl doesn't even form or at least exist until much later. The plan for this season is basically make her earn the title of Supergirl. Sure she calls herself that but at this point she doesn't feel so super or even worthy of wearing the crest of her family. So its a matter of me leading her down the path so that by the end of the season, she gets the right to call herself Supergirl and become the hero she is meant to be. Of course like I said this show is about choices. And some of those choices will follow throughtout the entire show. Season 1 is the starting point.

When it came time to do the supporting cast, as you know I had Stephanie Brown and since her and Kara had a bestie relationship in the comic, I was going to use that and make a friendship out of it. However, after reviewing and retooling the story, Lucy stuck out as a usable character. I figured with the two of them having a lot in common, and of who they are related too, I found a way to make an organic friendship grow out of that. And I can't wait for you to see what I do with Lucy. I'm gunna put this girl through the ringer. And hopefully you enjoy where I take her. As for her history in the comics.....some of that will be incorporated. Which aspects....time will tell .

As for the villian's, I always felt like Cadmus would be too easy. But the story potential for that organization is well enough. I want to make them as memorable as possible. As for Lex, don't worry, he isn't that big of a threat to Supergirl. I will say that if Kara was going to have a Lex Luthor in her life, its Karen. Over the course of the season you'll see how Kara and Karen are basically perfect foils for each other. I can't go into to much detail, otherwise I'm gunna give away to much.As for the recurring villians, I'm creating most of them and pulling from different villians that have had connections to Kara in the comics. So don't be surprised if you see some of your faces grace this series. I will say the first original villian for the series will be in episode 1. And will be seen again sporadically over the season.

The future.....well I can't say to much on that since that is a major question being asked throughtout the season. Kara ruffled a lot of feathers when she left the future, one in particular is ex-beau Brainiac 5. So diving into Kara's time with the legion is something I want to explore. You'll see snippets and through dialogue hear how it went down. But I will say Episode 7 explains what went down, but the finale puts sort of a ending on that for a while.
Speaking of the future, The Legion will play more background advisaries. When planning this season I wanted to portray them as the good guys and the bad guys. We saw a little bit of how the Legion operated back in S8 and I liked that they were willing to kill Chloe to save the future.Yeah Clark is the inspiration for them changing, but the question they have to ask themselves is how far will the legion go to preserve their future. Would they kill Kara? And if they do, will be able to live with the guilt of their actions? And with being from the future, and having insider scoops on the characters destinies, how far are they willing to manipulate these people into serving their end game.

So hopefully that answered youre questions. If you have anymore feel free to ask. Episode descriptions will be up later to give you even more insight into where I'm going this season with the characters.

Okay, so sorry this has taken as long as it has Karl, but I just read your episode descriptions, or at least the first couple just so I wouldn't spoil myself on too much.

I think they all sound entertaining enough. The Steel one has me the most intrigued out of the first half, followed by Cadmus, mainly because of the introductions of Steel and Powergirl. That just sounds very cool and exciting. It's also going to be interesting to see how Kara and Mal are going to be able to cooperate, specifically in "Training Day," but more importantly within the entirety of the first season.

So yeah, good episode descriptions!

Hopefully I don't disappoint with Steel and Cadmus.hahaha
These two episodes are sort of like a two part deal. Where the events of "Steel" lead directly into the main issue of "Cadmus" and will have lasting problems for the rest of the season.

As for Steel and Power girl, I can't wait to introduce them. Natasha and Kara are very alike when they meet in the episode,trying to find Cadmus, but what they do with the information they gather is where they differ. Natasha also "inspires" Lucy and Mal in the episode and "Cadmus" shows us a taste of what these twos future will lead to. While with Power girl the only thing I can say about her is that she basically isn't what you think. I'll leave you with that.

Kara and Mal in "Training Day" is the start of the partnership that will lead to Team Supergirl. However with Kara and Mal having two different opinions in saving Chicago, the partnership dissolves and let's just say punches get thrown and opinions are shared. Throughout the season youll see how their first team up effects the way they continue to work together although don't expect it to bee awkward for too long.

So after a hard couple of weeks, I'm back to writing this thing.
When you're reading this you'll notice I changed some characters and the fact that I created my own bad guys and got rid of the Cadmus Angle.
Going back on it I realized that if i want this series to work, I need to make this series Original, YET, still connected to the Smallville universe without relying on it. I know Zachary and Kara have history with Zatanna and Clark, but don't expect Zatanna or Superman to make any major appearances.
