CASTING NEWS - Meet The Faulkners! Dr. Kitty Faulkner will be feeling the pressure in an early episode of Season 2 "M:SCU" when her parents, Everett and Meredith arrive in town. VSGuide can exclusively reveal that John Shea ( Lois & Clark, Mutant X) and Patricia Tallman ( Babylon 5, Night of the Living Dead) have been booked to fill the roles (and shoes) of the elder Faulkners! Shea is well known for his stint as 'Lex Luthor' himself during the 4-year run of " Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman", as a season regular for the show's first year, and several return appearances for the remainder of the show's life. He also lead the cast of the sci-fi show " Mutant X" for 2 years, before becoming a recurring special guest for it's final year. Tallman is just as well known in sci-fi circles for her role as "Lyta Alexander' in cult hit and legend " Babylon 5", appearing in the very first film, before returning in a recurring capacity for the second and third seasons and eventually as a regular cast member for the final two seasons. She is also very well known as a stunt actress, and has appeared in various incarnations of " Star Trek", anc is recognisable for her appearances in many other different shows and movies, although many uncreditted. " We knew we wanted 'names' for the roles of Kitty's parents, and for their relationship to be explored in more detail for the second season," Matthews told VSGuide. " We've hinted in season one that her relationship with them wasn't the easiest, and given what we have planned for Kitty, it always made sense to have an episode focus on that. Scoring Patricia was a delight - she was always who I imagined in the role of Kitty's overbearing and emotionally distant mother. John's audition was perfect, and I'm happy we're continuing the "Smallville " tradition of honoring the previous 'Superman' focused shows by casting their actors into new and exciting roles." Although many details about the season two episodes are still unknown, Matthews confirmed that the Faulkners will appear in Episode 2x04, and that they are there mainly because of the amount of attention Metropolis has had recently in the media, as well as the fact that they will be meeting Vinnie Morgan ( guest star Eddie Cahill), Kitty's new boyfriend. " It will definitely be a trial by fire for both Kitty and Vinnie, they're still exploring their new relationship, Kitty likes having Vinnie as just hers, and she'll be nervous facing the scrutiny of her parents, as well as what little tidbits and secrets they might let slip about her." Excited to meet the parents of one of the most brilliant minds in Metropolis? Sound off below!!

It's been a quiet few months regarding news and spoilers from the set of sophomore action/adventure show "Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit", but they are back with a bang! VSGuide has been given the task of announcing that three major guest stars from the 10-year run of " Smallville" have been confirmed to be appearing in Episode 2x02: " Substitute". Lucas Grabeel, of " Switched at Birth" fame, is also well known for playing a young Lex Luthor in multiple flashback sequences throughout " Smallville" history, before going on to portray the Cognitial Neural Replicant, or 'CNR' - a clone of Lex that also had Clark's Kryptonian DNA (and powers) added to stabilize the cloned cells. At first calling himself 'Lex', the clone eventually lost the hatred of Clark that fulled him at first, eventually embracing an identity as 'Connor Kent', a sort of 'brother' to series hero Clark Kent. He will be reprising his 'Connor Kent' role during his time on Episode 2. Phil Morris, known to the fans of the DC animated universe as the voice of immortal mastermind Vandal Savage, returns as 'John Jones' a.k.a. the 'Martian Manhunter'. The sole survivor of Mars' indiginous population, that was wiped out some time ago by unknown means, is a former galactic bounty hunter who worked with Superman's biological father Jor-El, in capturing and securing criminals in the Phantom Zone. He later watched over Clark as a last favour to Jor-El, briefly loosing his innate Martian powers for a time after revealing himself to Clark, before they were restored as a final act by Dr. Fate shortly before his death. Since re-embracing his abilities, he has continued with his civilian cover as a detective with the Metrpolis Police Department, although he has been conspiciously absent from the series before now, which will be explained when he returns. Finally, Alan Ritchson, well known for his role in " Blue Mountain State" as well as the recent " Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" films, returns as A.C. Curry, a.k.a. 'Aquaman' for this second episode. In the history of Smallville, A.C. is one of the first meta-humans encountered by Clark who would later go on to help form the proto-Justice League. A former student of University of Miami before his ocean-related activism forced him on the run, he has worked with the League several times since his introduction, both in "Smallville" and "Watchtower". he later went on to discover his Atlantean roots and marry fellow Atlantean Mera, which greatly matured the cocky youth he was originally, and is well on his way to becoming the undersea royalty he is destined to one day become. So what exactly is it that brings these three heroes back to Metropolis? You'll have to wait and see, folks, but feel free to sound off on your thoughts and ideas below. Stay tuned for more exciting news to come!

SPOOKY EXCLUSIVE: Two Major Guest Stars Booked for Halloween Special!
It seems that the ghosts and goblins will be out in force in Metroplis this year, as pre-production and casting has begun for a Halloween seasonal special during Season 2 of "M:SCU". One of those cast is "Earth 2" and "Eureka" star Debrah Farentino, who will be joined by "Constantine" star Angelica Celaya.
"I knew that as well as a Christmas special, I wanted a Halloween special," series creator Alex Matthew told VSGuide in a recent interview, "and although the main story is very much a standalone, we're using it to introduce one of our new recurring characters, and begin a couple of major plotlines for some of our main characters."
Farentino has been cast as 'Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva', an rather infamous archaeologist known more for her colourful history (and possible criminal activitie) then her actual work digging up ancient treasures, based on the DC Comics character of the same name who is well-known for being morally corrupt and easily bought. "We knew from the get-go we needed a character who didn't care about right and wrong, who did what needed to be done to secure an artifact, and perhaps a profit," explained Matthews, "and to me, the perfect character was Barbara Minerva. When it came to casting, there was no-one else in mind besides Debrah, and we were very lucky she was interested!" In comics lore, Minerva is also known as 'the Cheetah', a powerful foe of Wonder Woman's, who has made it her mission to destroy the Amazon powerhouse. Part-human, part-cheetah, she takes her power from an ancient plant god of South America, but because she wasn't the ideal candidate for that honour, she is consumed with bloodlust, and barely maintains her humanity at times. Celaya joins as the episode's primary antagonist, 'Lourdes Lucero', a.k.a. 'La Encantadora', a Superman villain who made her name tricking crime bosses out of their money by using her power of illusion to sell them fake kryptonite. Her power comes from a necklace she wears that contains the Mists of Ibella, a supernatural relic that normally curses it's owner, but Lourdes, who felt no need to fight their lure, wields them easily and with impunity. She appeared several more times, infecting Superman with a nanobot virus that nearly killed him, before her guilt got the better of her, and she instead ended up helping save the life of Loise Lane, before fading into obscurity, taking the Mists with her. " Lourdes is a bit of a michief-maker," Matthews told VSGuide, " and given her criminal career, she's morally fluid, but still essentially believes in right and wrong, just perhaps not to the same extent that certain cape-wearing heroes do. She's going to have some fun with our main characters, definitely at their expense, but when it comes down to it, she's someone who wants satisfaction, and people better not stand in her way." It is hoped the special will air around the time of Halloween, although an official starting date for the second season has yet to be announced. The episode's title has been revealed to be "Enchant", and although a synopsis has not been released yet, it seems certain things can be deduced from the appearances of these two characters. But just what is it that brings these two women to Metropolis in the first place? Sound of below, people!

JUST IN: Eight 'Minisodes' Commissioned To Bridge Time Gap Between "Aftermath" and "Substitute" Exciting news! VSGuide can exclusively reveal that the executives of "Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit" will be writing and producing several 'minisodes' that will follow certain characters and events during the 3-month tim jump between episodes 2x01 and 2x02.
"I was inspired by the idea that the producers of "Watchtower" had for the unairred 'prequal' series for the 3rd season episode, "Mirror"," revealed series creator Alex Matthews during the announcement of the news. "It's always something I've toyed with the idea of, even back in the early days of the series itself."
Asked why he felt it could come into use now, Matthews explained, "Originally, I thought of releasing either a series of 'extra scenes', or something similar to the short 'minisodes' that come with the Doctor Who DVD released, that show extra little trips the Doctor went on with his companions. But as the idea developed and grew, we realised it could be used not just to bridge the time gap between the episodes, but also allow a bit more exploration of certain plot points that we either didn't have time for in episode 2, or I felt we'd had to sacrifice because of the necessity of the time jump."
When asked about which characters get focused on the most, Matthew replied, "Given we commissioned 8 episodes in total, we wanted to use it to really explore a lot of the new characters we're introducing this season, as well as how they integrate and affect the lives of our main characters."
VSGuide has been informed that not only are all main season 2 regulars appearing in at least one minisode each, but also that the characters portrayed by Peter Facinelli, CCH Pounder, Jessica Alba and Gina Rodriquez will all be introduced via the minisodes. One of the minisodes is also rumoured to star "Smallville" alumns Phil Morris, Alan Ritchson and Elena Satine, whereas previously announced 2x02 guest star Niall Matter will now be appearing in one of the minisodes as well.
Although no air date has been released for the season premiere as of yet, with the announcement of a halloween-themed episode, VSGuide can speculate that at least the first three episodes (and the minisodes) will air in early October at the latest. Stay tuned for more news and details as they happen!
Looking forward to the minisodes? What adventures and mishaps do you think will befall old and new characters alike? Sound off below!!

CASTING EXCLUSIVE: Rose McGowan Booked For Guest Role!
VSGuide can confirm that the former " Charmed" and " The Super Teens" star has signed on to appear in 2 episodes and 1 'minisode' as "Dr. Dana Laski", the chief medical researcher working for Jaime Ray Newman's "Whisper A'Daire". Executive Producer/Showrunner Alex Matthews explained, "Part of the first half of the second season will bring our focus back onto the 'starlight' arc, which will again run through the remainder of the season, and Dr. Laski, at least at first, is a huge part of that." Viewiers may remember that the series premiere established that Eric Marsh (played by Zachary Ty Bryan) helped create 'starlight', based on his original metero-rock steroid formula. " It was Dr. Laski who took Eric's early work and turned it into 'starlight', and she's been adapting and refining it all this time." " I'm very happy to be working for theVPN again," McGowan told us when we spoke to her about her new role, " They have a great many shows that focus on strong, powerful women, be they good or bad, who still manage to hold onto their femininity and sexuality without it being compromised by what they have to do in their lives." Matthews was also clearly excited by the casting, " I am a huge fan of "Charmed" in general, and Rose in particular, so to have her onboard, it's beyond fabulous!" He also told us a bit about the character Rose is playing, explaining that, " While Laski is an original character. she's heavily inspired by Wonder Woman villaness 'Dr. Poison' and Flash villain 'Dr. Alchemy'. Her appearances in 2x01 and the minisode are small, but she'll be heavily focused on in the last episode we have her booked for."
Looking forward to Rose's stint in Metropolis? Thoughts/theories about just what might be going to involve Intergang's chief scientist? Sound of below!!

EXCLUSIVE: "M:SCU" Season Premiere Airdate Announced!!
VSGuide has got the exclusive news that viewers can finally return to the 'City of Tomorrow', with a TWO-HOUR SPECIAL EVENT, on Monday, October 3rd, when "Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit" will return alongside sister series " Watchtower"! " We're very excited to be coming back," series star Jill Teed told us, on set with the Halloween episode currently finishing filming. " The cliffhanger at the end of last season left us all on tenterhooks, and I think viewers will enjoy how we come back and get straight back into the problems we were left with." All previous season regulars appear in the season premiere, alongside Chris Lowell and Fred Weller, promoted to main cast from their recurring roles last year, and are joined by Katee Sackhoff as 'Detective Patricia Trayce'. Returning guest stars include Jaime Ray Newman, David Guintoli, Eddie Cahill and Sean Maher, alongside special guest stars David Tennant, Anthony Michael Hall and Chris Gauthier. " Although we're not as closely linked as similar shows like "The Flash" and "Arrow", we are sister series," showrunner Alex Matthews explained when we asked about the decision to come back alongside "Watchtower", " and it felt like the right thing to do. What viewers should be aware of, though, is that our timelines won't be running parallel. Even with the time-jump between Episodes 1 and 2, we'll be running at least a couple of months behind the events of the WCHTR Season 4 premiere. That will become most clear during the events of Episode 2, which we hope to air Oct. 24th, three weeks after the season premiere." Why the large gap between Episode 1 and 2? "That's when we'll be airring the minisodes. Minisode 1 will air on Oct. 10th, and the subsequent 7 episodes will be released daily, with the eighth and final one airring Oct. 17th. Episode 2x02: "Substitute" will air on the 24th, and 2x03: "Enchant", the Halloween special, will air on All Hallow's Eve itself, which will end our first run of episodes." VSGuide couldn't help but ask how long the hiatus will last, given the first season's production issues and delays in filming/airring episodes. " It's a fair question, and I can confirm now we'll be back at least for a Christmas special, and hopefully 1 or 2 episodes with it before another hiatus. I can't say when for certain we'll return after that, but all remaining episode will be airred in 2017." Asked what he felt about the upcoming season, Matthews told us, "I'm very excited! The first season was a massive learning curve not just for myself as head writer and showrunner, but also our cast as they brought their characters to life - old hats like Jill and David looked for new ways to play their established characters, while the newbies got a chance to feel their own characters out over the course of the season. Now, they all know their characters inside and out, either through discussons with me, or from what they've formulated on their own." What about what this new season will bring? " We've a lot of new characters being introduced and explored, and they all tie back to our main characters in some way, so no-one is ignored." When VSGuide asked about his own favourite character, Matthews played it vague, " I will say that Chris and Felicia were definitely some of our break out performances last year, and I am very happy that the character of Wally was so well received, Franz is responsible for a lot of that, and so he's going to be explored in a lot more depth as well. Each of our characters will be pushed out of their comfort zones and sent in various directions with what life throws at them."
There you have it! " M:SCU" to return alongside the Season 4 premiere of " Watchtower"! Excited?! Any questions for the production team? Ask away below!!

Guest Stars Galore in "METROPOLIS: SUPPLEMENTAL" After this week's release of the season 2 premiere of " Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit", VSGuide can now reveal some more details about the 8 'minisodes' that will be airing everyday between thr 10th and 17th of October. First of the bat, is that they will be released under a seperate banner called " Metropolis: Supplemental". " Although they fill the gap between episodes both in story and in reality, " Executive Producer Alex Matthews explained, " they are seperate from the main episodes of the second season, so it felt like a disservice to release them in the same way." Several recurring guest stars from the previous season will feature during the minisodes, including 'Toby Raines' ( guest star Kelly Rowan), 'Vic Sage' ( guest star Mark Pellegrino), ' Roy Harper' ( guest star Nathaniel Buzolic), ' King Faraday' ( guest star Alex Carter), ' Vinnie Morgan' ( guest star Eddie Cahill) and ' Dr. Tina McGee' ( guest star Tina Majorino). Paget Brewster makes a brief apperance as ' Dr. Angela Roth'. VSGuide can also reveal that half a dozen new guest stars will be introduced via the minisodes, although it's not clear if all of them will reappear later on during the season. "Orphan Black" star Dylan Bruce completed work on a 'minisode', and it is hoped he will return later in the year, alongside "Fringe" star Lance Reddick. "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Body of Proof" actress Jeri Ryan also filmed a cameo appearance, while "Boy Meets World" star William Russ makes what will hopefully be the first of several appearances as "Dr. Franklin Wilson", the Chief Medical Examiner of Metropolis. Brief synopses have been revealed to VSGuide about what to expect from each of the minisodes:

CASTING EXCLUSIVE: Jason Bateman Books Recurring Role as DC Comics Hourman!
Eagle-eyed readers may have spotted this news if they checked the episode spoilers for changes recently. However, VSGuide can confirm that the " Arrested Development" and " Horrible Bosses" star has signed on to appear in multiple episodes this season as 'Rick Tyler', the son of the J.S.A. charter member 'Rex Tyler/Hourman'. " Although we haven't had confirmation of a third season officially given, we're starting to plant the seeds for it's main story arc, " reveals Executive Producer/Showrunner Alex Matthews, " and Rick Tyler's company TylerCo Pharmaceuticals is going to be at the forefront of that story." When asked to some up the character, Matthews defined him as " someone who has a lot of pressure on their shoulders, running the family company that has grown a lot from the small business his dad set up, and having a father who was a bonafied superhero has left some 'daddy issues'. But you wouldn't know it to look at him, as he comes across as a very relaxed, and balanced individual." When asked if the comic book character's addiction issues will come up, or if he'll follow in his father's footsteps, Matthews replied that " it's not something on the cards at the moment, but down the line, who knows what kinds of situations might occur that could push him that way. As for his appearances in this season, Matthews told us this, " His appearance is very much tied into Beth Chapel's storyline as we get her more out of the morgue and into the real world. Beth is a healer. She chose to focus on speaking for the dead after loosing one too many patients in the O.R. But there's still a part of her that wants to heal the sick, and she's found an outlet for that working in a free clinic in the Slums. Surprisingly considering he's an active C.E.O. of a growing company, that's what brings her into contact with Rick." Matthews explained the casting process, " Since this character would be heavily involved with Beth, we had Tembi present with the auditions, and there was a lot of good chemistry with many of the actors who came in for it. But Jason was head and shoulders above the rest, and when it came to him and Tembi, they just clicked!" Bateman's first appearance will be in episode 2x03: " Enchant".
Looking forward to Jason's imminent arrival in Metropolis? Thoughts/theories about just what might be going on at TylerCo.? Sound of below!!

CASTING EXCLUSIVE: DC Comics' 'Pied Piper' and 'Mirror Master' To Star in Xmas Special 'Goodwill'
VSGuide has the exclusive news from the production offices of VPN pseudo-procedural drama " Metropolis: Special Crimes Unit" about some casting news on the upcoming, if somewhat delayed, festive episode entitled " Goodwill". For this episode, Flash Rogues 'Pied Piper', a.k.a. Hartley Rathaway, and 'Mirror Master', a.k.a. Samuel Scudder, will be paying a visit to Metropolis for the festive season, and Series Creator Alex Matthews promises that the MSCU interpretation will be very different to how these characters were depicted in CW hit " The Flash". Rathaway/Pied Piper will be portrayed by guest star Ashton Holmes, star of ' Nikita' and ' Revenge', and his background will honour his comic book origins, including his friendship with Wally West ( series star Fran Kranz). " Given how they've been portrayed before, I knew we had to do something different, and Pied Piper is a character that has always really stuck with me," explained Matthews, " so I wanted us to show a different side of him, and in our interpretation, that manifests in both his backstory, and the reason he became the 'Pied Piper'." ' Covert Affairs' and ' Once Upon A Time' star Eion Bailey will be playing 'Sam Scudder', " This is Scudder before he becomes 'Mirror Master', that is something that could possibly come later in the run of the show, as the idea of 'supervillains' become more prevalent," Matthews told VSGuide, " but for now, we wanted a character who isn't exactly known for his moral fortitude, and having another Flash Rogue made a lot of sense, hence our choosing Scudder. He's not a villain, per se, but a man doing his job, which requires a certain moral flexibility to it." As for the episode itself, Matthews promises " It will really be a Wally-heavy story, while continuing on the other storylines we've started so far this season, including the Beth/Rick relationship, and also sees the return of Jennifer, Todd's sister, and explores their new relationship and how it affects those closest to Todd himself." Matthes gaves VSGuide a final tease by admitting that, " We'll also begin exploring a new storyline for Danny with this episode, one that will allow us to introduce two new characters that will help Danny deal with the issues he's been facing so far this season." " Goodwill" will hopefully be released on Monday 16th January.
Apologies again for the delay to the Xmas special - I've been combating flu/cold, alongside working all through Christmas/New Years - what time I did have off, I pretty much was left feeling sorry for myself in bed with no urge to write - but I'm hoping to buckle down this week and get the episode completed and edited enough to past muster for a Monday release. AMENDED 09/01/17: The episode has been pushed back another week - was really hoping to have it released on the 9th, but sadly it just wasn't possible, I'm afraid.

CASTING NEWS: Two New Guest Stars
Announced for 2x04: "Goodwill"
With the upcoming release of the delayed Xmas special, VSGuide can finally reveal some more casting news, including the addition of both Keith Carradine (' Criminal Minds', ' Dexter') and Booboo Stewart (' X-Men: Days of Future Past', ' Descendents') to the episode's guest cast! Carradine has booked the role of Osgood Rathaway, father to Hartley Rathaway, the secret identity of the 'Pied Piper' (played by Ashton Holmes) in DC comics lore. In the VPNDCU, Osgood is the C.E.O. of the Rathaway Business Group, a large corporation that rivals Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp, and comes under heavy scrutiny during the episode. " I'm very excited," Carradine told VSGuide of the role, " I've played serial killers and FBI agents, so I've been on both sides of that divide. This role was more about a man doing what he can to protect his family, but not necessarily making the best decisions in the mean time." Stewart, meanwhile, has booked the role of Charles Great Eagle, a minor character from the Batman mythos that is being adapted in a new and intriguing way, but will still honour his comic-book origins. His storyline will tie in with that of Danny Turpin, played by series star David Patkeau. It's is a recurring role, although how many episodes of the season he will be in is currently unknown. " He's a got a lot of emotional baggage," commented Stewart, on his character, " and it's going to take something drastic to really push through all that anger and resentment he's carrying."
Looking forward to the long-overdue release of the Christmas episode? Any thoughts on these new characters? Sound off below!!

VSGUIDE EXCLUSIVE: Nathaniel Buzolic Returns as 'Roy Harper'
When last we saw the recovering addict and occasional informant of the S.C.U., Roy was aligning himself with D.E.O. Special Agent King Faraday, agreeing to work for him and his agency for some kind of secret assignment [See Minisode 'Hired']. VSGuide has the exclusive report that viewers will discover just what that assignment was in the first episode back when "M:SCU" returns from it's hiatus. " I'm really happy to be back," Buzolic told VSGuide after the initial script table read-through, " Roy is a very conflicted, flawed character, I love that about him, and he's been a helluva journey over that first year. The writers sat down and explained that they had an idea with where they saw Roy going, tapping into part of his comic history." The episode, 2x05, is entitled ' Inject', which seems fitting, as it delves back into the storyline of the 'starlight' drug, and also features the return of not just Harper, but also Alex Carter's 'King Faraday' and Christopher Judge's 'Daniel Brickwell'. " We always knew that the starlight mystery and loose arc through the first season was something we had to resolve at some point," explained Alex Matthews, series creator and head writer. " It's all part of Intergang's long-term plan, and they're finally closing that part, and moving onto the next." It's not just the 'starlight arc' that will be resolved, either. At the end of 2x01, viewers may remember that Brickwell seemed to be undergoing some kind of transformation. " Exposing Brick to 'starlight', having him change from this regular, if strong and well built, human, into the powerful metahuman he is in the comics was always something we wanted to happen," Matthews tolds us. " Given his depiction in 'Arrow ', I always wanted to honour the original source material with our depiction, even if we still took a few creative liberties with how things turn out." So does that mean this is the end for Brick? " Never say never," laughs Matthews, " remember, this is a comic-book-based series, and people die and get resurrection all the time. Hell, it's even happened in 'Watchtower ' a few times. Let's just say, that for now, this is the end for Brick as we knew him, but maybe the beginning of a new Brick later on, if we feel we need him back one day." Also returning in this episode will be Rose McGowan as 'Dr. Dana Laski', Sean Maher as 'Johnny Stitches' and David Giuntoli as 'Kyle Abbott'.

CASTING EXCLUSIVE: Shameik Moore Cast As DC Comics' "Aqualad"!
The star of Netflix hit " The Get Down", Shameik Moore, will appear in episode 2x06 as the latest incarnation of the DC Comics character, ' Aqualad'. In his comic book origins, Jackson Hyde is the son of famed Aquaman villain, Black Manta, who was raised in Silver City, New Mexico, with no idea as to his true origins for most of his life. During the "Brightest Day" incident, his latent powers awakened, and he finally dscovered the truth when he encounters Aquaman, his wife Mera and Black Manta, and his adoptive parents are forced to come clean. Like most Atlanteans, he is an exceptional swimmer, capable of breathing underwater and surviving the crushing pressures of the deep sea, but unlike them, he also has webbed fingers and gills, and has the mystical ability to control and shape water into hard contructs. How much of these comic book origins will be adapted remains to be seen, but Executive Producer Alex Matthews reveals that, " We tried to keep as close to this comic book character as possible, with a few necessary tweaks to make it fit into the "Smallville" and "Watchtower" timeline." 2x06, entitled " Tattoo", also features the return of Lance Reddick as the villainous 'Black Manta', and will explore just who the man is behind the mask in some detail, as well as Alan Ritchson's second full episode this season as 'Arthur Curry/Aquaman'.
