Another update: I've decided that I'll either run this as 12 one hour episodes or 20-24 half hour episodes. There will be about the same amount of content this way but depending on which one I choose will effect the kind of stories I can tell. Shorter episodes will probably be easier to write as it is a little less complex and sort of lends itself to humorous story lines. On the other hand I could could do the hour episodes which means I can create more complex stories and include a bit more drama. I'm not sure which one will work better, both have their advantages and disadvantages so any advice on this dilemma would be appreciated too

I think a show like this works great both ways... but I think 12 one-hour episodes will probably be better, since you can go into detail more.

For this series, that's actually a tough question to answer. I can see this show being more on the comedic side of things, but then again, I can definitely see you going even deeper within, revealing more dramatic tones for it, but still keeping that humor. For me, because I love comedy when it's written well, I think the half episodes would come out better (for me, as a reader anyways). Not saying that 12 one-hour episodes wouldn't work either, because it really would. I guess it just depends on the way you want people to look at the show. That, and the personally preference of the reader. Either way, you get an A+ for this idea

I do like the idea of working with slightly more detailed story lines. I've never been a plain humour/comedy writer, I can't help but chuck a bit of drama or action in, and if I tried to do half hour episodes with drama elements I can't help but think I'll make a big mess of it because of the restricted episode time so you do make a good point there. Knowing me I won't be able to keep it light and simple so there's going to be drama of some sort in there but I will be, like you said, trying to keep the humour in it. I also agree that a well written comedy would work well with short snappy episodes but I'm a little bit hesitant with my ability to write a comedy. I can write funny things, sure, but a whole show with a main genre of comedy I'm not quite sure I can pull off just yet. I think at the moment I'm leaning towards the hour episodes. I have a feeling that there will be quite a bit of drama thrown in with the humour and for that to work well I feel the hour episodes would be needed. I'll probably stick with that unless anyone has anything else to add to this little discussion

I think virtual series are slowly trimming themselves down to 12-13 episodes a season, and being someone who attempted 22 episodes and failed, I can say, its much easier with the smaller episode count. Unlike television, we have to keep our audience around by reading, not watching -- and sometimes filler episodes, and stalling plots doesn't work well with the virtual shows, imo. So I'm glad you're planning on doing 12 episodes for the first season. This whole pitch looks amazing. You have a unique, fantastic looking cast, and I'm excited to see what you're going to bring to the table with a show like this

Technically an hour episode only runs for about 45 minutes so making the episode 40 minutes really wouldn't be that much different to writing an hour episode.

Update: I've decided on one hour episodes and will be classifying this as a dramedy. Also, I'm slowly putting up the episode guide in my spare time so check it out when you get the chance, I'd love to hear what you think.

Hmm, so before I finish up the episode guide I was wondering if anyone was interested in a writers position on Welcome to the Snake Pit (if it does get picked up)? As much as I love this idea Edge of Vision takes up a lot of time because of the intricate plot but with one or two other writers working with me on Snake Pit I'm pretty sure I'd be able to handle them both fairly easy. The reason I'm offering the writers positions on Snake Pit is that there's no huge underlying storyline that needs to be adhered to when writing. The episodes a very stand alone and it would be easy to have another writer help out without disrupting the flow of the show. How many episodes you want to write is mostly up to you so if your interested don't worry about being forced to do a specific number of episodes, you can just do as many as your are comfortable with So, if you want the job or just want to talk a bit more about it post here or drop me a message. I'll be happy to hear from anyone interested

I'm getting back into working on this idea (because I really do love it) and have decided that I'm going to change to half hour episodes. It'll be much easier for me to complete it that way and I won't have too be to reliant on huge story arcs. Also, I'm still open to the idea of having other writers work on the show with me so if you're interested just send me a message

Can't wait to see a pilot for this. I'm glad you're thinking things through, and not working yourself too hard with full episodes, and such. Excited

Excited Full episodes would have been nice but the more I thought about it the more I realised how hard that would be while I was working on Edge of Vision too. Edge of Vision is an extremely detailed story with lots of mystery and twists in the plot that means each episode takes A LOT of work. I knew I wouldn't be able to work on another complex plot at the same time so, thankfully, Snake Pit allows for more 1-shot story lines and shorter episodes so I should be able to work on while working on Edge of Vision at the same time I'll be starting the pilot soon hopefully, I want to finish up a couple more Edge of Vision episodes first though

QUESTION:
When adding David's parents to the cast I realised it was getting quite big. Upon looking over the characters I found that some of the sins were very similar in attitude and began to wonder if maybe I could combine some of them to help drop the cast number down. I'm thinking of getting rid of the characters Pride and Greed.
What I want to know is: without the 'seven' deadly sins do you think the story can still hold it's own or do you think having a character for each of the sins is something I should keep?

Well, maybe you could keep only a few and introduce more of the seven deadly sins as the show progresses.
