Okay, so this is how out of it I am. I just noticed the new shows on the board and the changed icons... I'm pretty much late to the party, but I wanted to say I am looking forward to this. Truly. I love dark fairytales just like Amin, and this is right up my alley. Not to mention your writing is fantastic, so I know I will enjoy this that much more. January can't come fast enough!

Review: "The Howling" - Little Red
First off, I was so glad to wake up to Little Red's premiere. I've been really excited about this series, and now that's finally here I can't wait to read it. So, that said, I'm gonna be writing this review as I go along so beware XD
The teaser was really good. I liked the first look you gave us at the village. I could really picture a small village bustling about and see it all in my head. Your descriptions are really good with doing that.
Ethel seems like that kinda person that comes off as nice and everything but like, when she's not looking you kinda side-eye at her like she's up to something or just one of those potential weirdos. If that makes sense.
God, Galwin. On one hand, I understand him and totally get why he's all upset and stuff but at the same time, I want to shake him and tell him to tell it go, she's grown enough to be doing things on her own! Regardless, their little father/daughter moment was nice, and gives a small yet pretty good insight into their lives in the fact that Audrey's lost her mother.
So Ethel's got a dead husband, huh? This is totally probably terrible but my weirdo sense is tingling. Or, creeper rather than weirdo, maybe. There's something about her, I just can't put my finger on it. She seems a little too happy to be in Fae, I think. She's gotta be up to something, for sure.
God she is so weird!! After that scene in the woods she totally has to be up to something. I definitely wanna see what her business is in Fae.
Lord, leave it to Audrey to bump in to the fugitive. And to let him go, too! But I guess she had reason to let him go. I hope he was telling the truth, otherwise, hoo-boy.
So I guess the whole murderers and thieves on the mountain weren't just tales, huh? There's a whole camp full of those assholes. This'll be fun, I can just see it now. Poor Hunter though, maybe he was telling the truth and now look what he's gotten himself into. Great end to the episode, by the way. You got me intrigued, wanting to learn some more about these mountain people and then you cut it off on me! Now I can't wait until next week's episode so I can found out more.
This was an awesome premiere episode, MJ. It set up the characters for us, gave us an idea of the village, Fae, and how it operates and how the villagers are with each other and stuff. You can really feel how "homey" the village is, I guess would be the way to describe it. I really liked the language you used in the script, it really gives off that old timey-ish, fantasy feel. I think you captured that really, really well. It doesn't come off as stiff or awkward or anything at all like it does when I've seen other people try to do it before. So props on that, for sure!
Your descriptions and word choice are amazing as well. I always love reading your writing because of how much effort and care you obviously put in to it. It's always great when you can tell that a writer loves to write and loves the story they're telling. I couldn't find anything wrong with the episode, even if I tried.
This is definitely a show I'm going to be sticking with week to week. It was exciting and a great story, and I really can't wait to see how it unfolds. I love your characters, especially Audrey and Renwick, as well as what we saw of Malven. You've got something great here, MJ! I give the premiere episode of "Little Red" a complete 10/10. Looking forward to next week's episode!

Reply to Aimee's review of 'The Howling'Review: "The Howling" - Little Red First off, I was so glad to wake up to Little Red's premiere. I've been really excited about this series, and now that's finally here I can't wait to read it. So, that said, I'm gonna be writing this review as I go along so beware XD All I can say is thank you and YAY first review I'm glad you thought that Description/action lines are probably what I struggle with most because I find it hard to take this amazing scenery and movements I have in my head and then translate them into the written word in a way that does what I can see in mind justice. You've definitely hit the nail on the head there. I even get kinda weirded out when writing her sometimes XD She is absolutely one of those people who is only in it for herself and holds her cards very close to her chest. I think Audrey feels exactly the same way, lol! She's at that age where the village is beginning to see her as an adult and she wants her father to give her the freedom that comes with that. At the same time though, she loves her father and knows how much her mothers death effected him which leads her to being a little more tolerant of his overprotectiveness. Don't trust Ethel, that's for sure. For all you know she's never been married, or maybe she's had a whole string of dead husbands, who knows? XD It was very nice of Audrey to let him go, wasn't it? Maybe too nice, but we'll see if that decision comes back to bite her later in the season. Heh... bite XD Lol, sorry, I unintentionally create a lot of cliffhangers! But yes, you will get to see a fair bit more of the mountain people in the next episode and, though you've probably guessed this already, they're pretty dodgy people, haha XD Thank you! Giving the language that "old timey-ish fantasy feel" as you call it, was one of the bigger challenges writing the series because, as you said, it can come off sounding a bit weird. Mind you, if you picture that characters as having that old time English accent it kinda helps the dialogue flow a lot better in your mind! Thank you so much! I was really worried about the first episode because while I felt it was good I don't think I really hit my stride with the series until the second episode, so it's great to have such a positive review I hope when the second episode comes out next week you enjoy it just as much as you did this one

WOW!! Just finished reading the premiere of "Little Red", and absolutely loved it - it was shorter then I was expecting, since many of the other VPN shows run to about 50/60 pages, but it still managed to convey an interesting story in what there was. I LOVED the imagery of the writing, it really brought the village of Fae to life for me, and having actors cast in certain roles in mind really brought the descriptions of the characters to life as well. I especially loved the language style, it felt very old school, vintage and archaic to me, like a time long forgotten, and helped make the whole thing seem more real. Eagerly looking forward to more!

Review/Commentary for Little Red 1x01 - The Howling
Wow, your teaser. I'm just going to start there because your descriptions are beautiful. You don't use to many words to get the point across, which would be an issue, but you pick just the right words to get it done. You paint quite a lovely picture for the reader.
I like the introduction of Ethel, she is very mysterious and I believe that to be her purpose in the story. I can't wait to see what comes of her moving to the small town.
I have to commend you on your casting next. Helena Bonham Carter is amazing for the role I suspect she will be playing, but Anthony Stewart Head is too. I can just imagine him playing the exasperated father in this scene with him and Audrey. In particular I love the part when their fight is over and they hug and he tells her that he has tried to stay mad at her and it doesn't work. I love that it is wonderful.
It could be the fact I love him so much that makes it easy to picture, but I really think you chose you character's actors well. Sarah Bolger I haven't seen in much until Once Upon a Time, but now that I see her in things I love her too as the main character.
Oh dear Malven has arrived and I believe with trouble to shake up the story, I wonder what it is. And how he talks of Renwick and Audrey I kinda wish I could see what they do to play hero before that makes him cautious to tell them anything. It certainly does establish the fact they are likely to go out and do something, but I'm curious now dangit.
I like the voice over part with Hunter and the council I believe you handled that very well.
Awe was Hunter not what everyone said? That's sad I see he is a supporting character so I am sure I am about to know more once I stop typing and keep reading. Good twists and such MJ. Oh good she let him go, I figured she would.
Oh dang I wasn't expecting that ending. How could you end it so soon whyyy? Ug I shall have to wait.
So I suppose I should sum up this attempt at a review. I enjoyed the script 100% Your descriptions are wonderful and not too wordy, you carried the story at a good pace and left me wanting more when you stopped. I also would like to point out that while I was afraid the old-timey language structure would come off as stilted, it totally didn't! AWESOME JOB!! I love what you are doing and keep up the good work!

Just finished reading the premiere of "Little Red", and absolutely loved it - it was shorter then I was expecting, since many of the other VPN shows run to about 50/60 pages, but it still managed to convey an interesting story in what there was. Thank you so much! Yes, LR does run shorter than most the other series on the VPN with only half hour/30 page scripts. This is because LR was originally going to be just a mini-series but I decided there was much more to tell so it became a VS with multiple seasons planned. Each episode of LR is like a chapter of the overall story but I knew if I went with hour episodes I'd only end up with 2 or 3 episodes a season and would have been tempted to prop them with filler just to make the season longer. So, yeah, there's my long and convoluted explanation of why I decided to go with 30 page scripts instead of the traditional 50/60, haha XD This is a really big deal for me as a compliment because I always feel my strength lay in dialogue, not so much the description/action lines. So, yeah, to hear you say you loved the imagery of the writing makes me so happy Thanks! It took a while for me to find a balance with the language, making it sound old but not so old that it reads awkwardly. I'm glad to see that I've actually pulled it off XD Thank you again for your review! I hope I have you hooked and that you'll enjoy the second episode when it comes out on Friday

You don't use to many words to get the point across, which would be an issue, but you pick just the right words to get it done. You paint quite a lovely picture for the reader. Again, this makes me so happy to read because I do worry about my descriptions and to hear that people are really liking them makes me so relieved XD Haha, yeah, Ethel is very mysterious. She's definitely a character to watch out for in the next few episodes. When I started casting LR I made the decision to go with predominantly British actors and actresses. Lucky for me there are some amazing British actors and actresses that were perfect for the parts I had in mind! Poor Malven, I feel like he's spent most his time as an older brother keeping a careful eye on Renwick and Audrey, trying to prevent them from going off and doing silly and dangerous things XD Thank you! Originally they were going to be two separate scenes but I decided the intercut with overlapping voices made it much more dramatic and fun to write Audrey is an absolute sweetheart deep down so, for better or for worse, of course she believed him when he said he didn't do it. It's probably one of her major flaws, she is much too trusting of people. Sorry! Lol. I'd like to say I don't have any more cliffhangers in the season but I would be lying, there are actually lots XD Thank you so much for the review! I have this stupidly happy grin on my face now and I'm just so glad people are enjoying reading LR and I hope you enjoy the next episode too

REVIEW - Little Red 1.01 "The Howling"
Just finished the Pilot episode that I have been meaning to read for a week now, and I have to say it was pretty good.
The opening teaser reminded me of Eragon. I think it was just the atmosphere of the village and the language of yesteryear. Although I'm almost positive this story is not about dragons Lol. Audrey seems like she's a handful already. I'm sure this series will see her getting into a lot of trouble. Lol.
Okay, where do you come up with some of these character names. They're definitely unique and intriguing. As far as characters go you definitely have given them all a distinctive voice. I like Ethelenda, her mysteriousness intrigues me. A tea maker? Interesting. Fancy name for a witch? Just guessing. Lmfao! I can't wait to see how her character unfolds. Her scene with Renwick in the forest and the basket of plant trimming makes me suspicious as to what she is up to. However, now that I think about it, if the plant is what I think it is she might not be a witch at all. Hm. Hypothosizing is fun! Lol.
Do you write with a thesaurus because some of your word choices are really good. Clearly you have a large vocabulary... I'm jealous! Lol.
I can definitely tell you've put a lot of thought into the mythology of this universe and it was very easy to picture the setting of this small village of Fae. I like the different fractions throughout... The Council, The villagers, the rogues. Again, an example of a well thoughtout mythology.
My only concern with the pilot was that there was all this build up and tension, but then it just faded away. I'm hoping that changes in the next episode. Again though, great episode. Well, done. Now onto episode two.

REVIEW – Little Red 1.02 “Waning and Waxing”Okay, the teaser alone has me giddy. What is she up to? Seriously. Lol. Also, I can totally picture Helena Bonham Carter when Ethelenda gets snarky with Braxton. I'm not sure if it's perfect casting, or you were picturing Helena when you wrote this, but it worked really really well! Wolfman legends... Oh no she didn't or I should say “not gonna” Lol. I love Renwick and Audrey. Something tells me that you're setting up a brother feud over Audrey. It maybe nothing but just the way Renwick said to Audrey how Malven is enamered with her like the rest of the village. Makes me wonder. Hm. Ethelenda, a practictioner of magic... no kidding. Lol. Love it! Okay, I got wrapped up in the episode I forgot that I was reviewing Lmfao!! Okay, I will first say “What the hell is Ethelenda looking for?”. Who is trying to stop her from finding this place, and why do they want to stop her? Well, after what she did to the Rogues I can see how she'd be seen as untrusting Lol. Poor Renwick. Fae definitely knows how to throw a party. Too bad it's about to get cut short... beasts at the gates. Another great episode!! I think I enjoyed it more so than the Pilot. It didn't build up and fade, which I was happy to see. Once again bravo!

Reply to Darrin's review of LR 1.01REVIEW - Little Red 1.01 "The Howling"The opening teaser reminded me of Eragon. I think it was just the atmosphere of the village and the language of yesteryear. Although I'm almost positive this story is not about dragons Lol. Okay, somebody tell me which fairytales have dragons in them. I totally want dragons in LR now! Google: Old English names. I kid you not, that is where most the names came from XD Ethelenda totally makes tea. Sometimes. When she's not doing other suspicious things... lol. But yeah, Ethel is quite fun to write. In this first episode I think people get the hint that she's not one of the good guys but there's no hard evidence until later episodes about her true motivations. Really? Thanks! XD I mean, I use a thesaurus on occasion (right click: synonyms, can be my best friend sometimes), especially when I use a word but know there was something better I could be using. But yeah, if the word is in the script I probably know it and use it somewhat regularly, just sometimes I need the thesaurus to remind me I do Thank you! Mythology for the rest of the world is still under works, but I do have a very clear picture in my head of Fae and how it, as a village, works when they are quite far off from any other villages. But in season 2, if I get a season 2, will take some of the main characters out of Fae and to a different village so we'll get to see some of the bigger world these characters inhabit Eep, was there? My bad XD LR is more serialised than EoV and I do find that some of the episodes end up with odd pacing but I'll see what I can do to make sure that doesn't happen too often Thank you again for reviewing! I'm glad you enjoyed the episode

Also, I can totally picture Helena Bonham Carter when Ethelenda gets snarky with Braxton. I'm not sure if it's perfect casting, or you were picturing Helena when you wrote this, but it worked really really well! Haha, honestly whenever I think about Helena Bonham Carter I just see everything 'Ethel'. She can pull of the fake sweetness, the dark humour, and the cunning villain perfectly. It was my sister who described Ethel as "pretty much every Disney villain ever" and I just felt that Helena could totally play that role perfectly, lol. I loved that scene because I knew she was going to leaving out some very important elements of those legends and Braxton was just going to fall for it completely XD That was totally unintentional! I didn't want it to come off that way but my characters have minds of their own I tell you!! XD So there might be some feud there or there might not, I'll let you know when my characters let me know, haha. Is that good? I hope that's good XD I wouldn't be surprised if there's a list of people a mile long who'd be happy to mess up Ethel's plans the way she seems to treat people. But as for what she's looking for specifically and who would want to stops her? You'll have to wait to find those out Thank you so much I have to admit, I do prefer this episode to the pilot even though it gave me hell during the writing stage XD But yes, thank you again fro your two reviews, and I hope you enjoyed it enough to come back and read it next week

Review: "Waning & Waxing" - Little Red
MJ! I come to you with yet another review! Just like the last, I'll be reviewing this as I read along so again, beware!
Audrey is really ballsy, just running up there like she owns the place and knocking on the door. I saw Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters on Friday night so I assume that is why, when you described Ethel's house, my mind immediately went to the witch's house in that movie, minus the fact it was made of candy. My mind has a way of doing the randomest shit XD I have a feeling that Renwick is right to be concerned about this weird fascination Audrey has with Ethel.
And of course, going into Act One, my suspicions are confirmed. Ethel, what the hell are you doing, fraternizing with hooligans! Mountain hooligans at that! Those are the worst kind! Well, next to the ones who sit across the street blasting music at 2-3 in the morning, but I digress.
"You should buy it". Just like a damn jewelry salesperson. Uh oh, Audrey. Buuuusssteeed. Look at her, lying out her ass. Audrey, Audrey, Audrey. What are we going to do with you.
I really like Audrey and Renwick's interactions. You can tell they're pretty close and they've got great chemistry. I enjoy reading their scenes together.
I like this nameless woman. She amuses me, and the way she talks about Ethel made me laugh. Poor Hunter, he has no idea what the hell is even going on. Not like we do either, except Ethel is being a weirdo again. But that's not surprising.
Oh my God, Ethel. Are you serious? That is just asking for trouble. Turning them into Wolfmen? That nameless woman was right. This isn't going to be good at all. I hope this woman sticks around. How am I so attached to a nameless character? Who knows.
And boom goes the dynamite. Audrey you better stay the hell out of the woods now.
"Band of merry misfits", I like that. Ethel, you are going to be the death of me. "Sludgy brew" gross. Who would drink that? Apparently mountain hooligans, that's who.
Ethel, go cover your house in candy and stay there before you get yourself killed. Good lord.
Jesus, I thought one of the little girls got killed for a second. That had me concerned for a second there, omg. I would have smacked those little boys with that stick if they'd grumbled at me like that, little brats.
I really like the way you describe the transformations of the wolfmen. I can see it in my head pretty clearly and you've done a pretty good job of capturing how painful it is to them. I like that the way you have it is pretty gruesome and ragged, I guess is the word to use.
Leave it to Ethel to be sitting off and being a party-pooper after she just caused a mess in the mountains.
You are killing me with these little cliff-hangers, MJ! Regardless, great way to end the episode and keep us coming back for more. The wolfmen (or, a wolfman, at least) have made it into Fae. This is going to be interesting, that's for sure.
This episode had a few typos and places where the dialogue was a little wordy, but nothing too distracting and it didn't take me away from the script. Most of them were Braxton and Ethel's lines, but at the same time, I understand that some characters can be wordy with their dialogue so I'm not gonna hang on to that too much. This was another enjoyable episode, for sure! I think I actually liked this one even more than the pilot, and I loved the pilot. Also, can I just say that I really love the way you set up and maintain the atmosphere of the setting in these episodes? It's fantastic, and it really puts you into the story, in my opinion. This episode definitely deserves a 10/10, especially considered I enjoyed it more than the pilot and you can't really get any higher than that! Looking forward to reading the third episode sometime tonight or early tomorrow and leaving you another review!
