Jack, how goes the writing on S3?! It's going really good. I just finished "DNA" about two days ago. I've started work on "Condemned" -- the final Selina Kyle episode of the season -- and now I'm focusing on one big assignment for my course work in these next two days before I start the script for 314, and work on editing 313 over the weekend. I'm really excited about these next three episodes. They're definitely game changers

I have a question: Have you eve given any thought to the idea of introducing the VPN version of 'the Penguin'? I know that both "Gotham" the show, and the character of Oswald Cobblepot have been very popular - has that made you think about doing your own version, or has it put you off it instead?

I have a question: Have you eve given any thought to the idea of introducing the VPN version of 'the Penguin'? I know that both "Gotham" the show, and the character of Oswald Cobblepot have been very popular - has that made you think about doing your own version, or has it put you off it instead? It's all about finding the right time to do these things. I don't want to introduce DC Comics characters just for the sake of introducing them. I have a story in mind for The Penguin when it comes to the fifth and final season of Watchtower, and unless there's an opportunity that arises beforehand to bring him in -- which there very much could be -- it's a very "stay tuned for the long haul" type answer. Gotham is a show that I haven't even tried to watch yet. I'm not too interested in it. I'm sticking to the Greg Berlanti side of the DCU with Arrow, The Flash, the new Arrow/Flash spin-off featuring The Atom, and Supergirl, haha. But as for Penguin, and a lot of the other villains from Batman's rogue gallery, I'm planning to do as much as I can. It's just that I have a five-year plan, and it's hard to answer things that I've got set for probably a year / two years from now. The fun thing about this season is that it's very much inspired by the graphic novel, "Hush." As you know, there's a lot of Batman's enemies that surface in it and I think I've tackled most of them before the season is done. I mean, Poison Ivy will be back in the latter half, and I've introduced The Riddler in "Thief" with Clayface having a really cool arc in place for the back half of this season. There's a few more announcements to be made in regards to some of the other characters that have yet to appear from the "Hush" comics which might surprise a few of you so I'm looking forward to announcing those later in the year! Unfortunately, The Penguin isn't one of them. But he is definitely going to be on Watchtower.

Good . You know i love game changers. Any spoilers for condemned? And any chance you're gunma revamp the birds? This time with Babs? Because I'm ready for that trio to grace the screens. Cuz lezbehonest Helena isn't leavin . she's the last of the orignal team watchtower.lol I don't have spoilers for "Condemned" yet because I'm still yet to do an outline for the episode. A lot of things usually change from the notes I wrote down at the beginning of the season to what the episode eventually becomes with knowledge of the previous episode/s and fresh ideas that come from the process of breaking it down. But once it's all outlined, I should be able to release the official descriptions plus title cards for the next three episodes, as well as airdates, and things like that so yay! It's ridiculous how much has happened since the first season that "Birds of Prey" in their true form seems plausible right now. It's crazy to me. I had a plan to bring Barbara in eventually, but never to tackle the Oracle storyline as soon as I did (in fact it wasn't going to be a plot point up until the fifth season). It honestly kind of unfolded itself and presented a really nice arc to go alongside Chloe in the back half of the season. So now I'm very much of the mind-set that things should be fast paced, and all potential should be tapped into as quickly as possible as long as it allows for an organic progression. Dinah was another character who sort of created a life of her own this season during the writing process and so she's off being Black Canary in Star City *nerd gasm* HAHA. I think the final piece of puzzle is Helena in this situation. She hasn't really been a team player for a while now, and this is the darkest season for her character. I will say that there's a pretty huge nod towards "Birds of Prey" in episode thirteen ["DNA"] that will probably amp you up even more for these three to join forces, and it definitely is another "stay tuned" situation on my end. I'll also say that I've really gotten into doing more comic book research without nifty little summaries of storylines, and character plot points in the comics. I've just finished the Green Arrow and Black Canary series -- which was amazing -- and have now started Birds of Prey. So that's something. Maybe

I actually recently found and bought the "Hush" graphic novel, and it's kinda what lead me to ask the question All those different villains popping up through it, it's made me really look forward to seeing how you adapt it to fit in with your own universe. I don't want to introduce DC Comics characters just for the sake of introducing them. It's funny you say that, because I do more or less the opposite I think, because M:SCU is more procedural based, when I sat down and planned out the first season, I knew I wanted to have specific episodes to focus on specific characters I wanted to introduce in my own way, i.e. Mr. Terrific, Sonar, Dr. Cyber, etc. On that note of 'specific characters', while the Riddler is someone I am REALLY looking forward to seeing defined in the WTRverse, one character I HOPE you introduce at some point is "The Calculator" - I don't know if you know of him, but he is essentially the criminal underworld's version of "Oracle", who becomes hellbent on exposing who Oracle really is. Since Chloe fills that pseudo-Oracle role as "Watchtower", I would LOVE to see Chloe go up against her evil alternate! Battle of the Super-Hackers Begin!

Since Chloe fills that pseudo-Oracle role as "Watchtower", I would LOVE to see Chloe go up against her evil alternate! Battle of the Super-Hackers Begin! I've just started reading "Birds of Prey" from the beginning, and I know he surfaces somewhere in that so it's definitely a possibility for next season. I keep saying that and it's probably annoying but it would be a lie if I said there was room to bring in all these really awesome villains this season, HAHA. Part of the reason the Oracle storyline was going to be put off for a while was because I was afraid that in making Barbara "Oracle" and starting that journey for her, it would make Chloe's role as Watchtower redundant. Then, I was worried I would make one lesser than the other because of their similar roles. Instead, I've found a really cool way to have them both stand on their own (I feel) which you'll guys come to see in the back half of the season. So "The Calculator" could just as much be a threat towards Barbara -- like from the comics -- that he could be for Chloe. As for all the DC Comics characters, it's taken close to four seasons to bring Wonder Woman into the show and both Chris and I have been wanting to introduce her since our shows premiered. Finding the right time is key for Watchtower, especially when it comes to having all these super-powered heroes out there. I mean, we talked about Superman before and how I said in my own head I considered him to not be on this Earth anymore and you were like phew! Hahaha. Because it does pose a situation sometimes. I think it's been said that one of the earlier episodes of Season Four -- in fact it's probably going to be the second episode -- will feature the return of Superman, and a Superman vs Batman event that has been in the making since "Alien." It's kind of the conclusion of a trilogy with Alien being part one, and Hope being part two. So, that's fun for me. I like playing with the mythology, and setting things up for a big pay off later and I think that will be the same for Birds of Prey, and certain Batman villains. Season Four is going to be the biggest pay-off season, for sure

Or the fact that we get batman vs superman before the movie comes out I call for Jack's to better. I'm sure you all know jack has basically made these dc characters a tad but better than DC is doing. I've always been impressed. The same can be said about Alex over On SCU. I'm so proud of you guys!!

Bummer about Trinity but looking forward to seeing what you do with Lana in Watchtower. Thanks for the support! It means a lot, man. When it comes to Lana, I'm hoping to work closely with Chris -- the creator of "Trinity" and executive producer for "Watchtower" -- to really make sure what's being done with Lana can carry some of the weight of the superb storylines and set-up that was made for the character on her own spin-off show. Secretly, I'd like to see Chris do something with the character post-Watchtower should he have the time in his schedule to revisit his series (as I was a huge fan of it) but for the most part, she's still the same Lana Lang that we all loved and she's a crucial part of the fourth season, of which will be set-up in her two/three S3 Episodes.

Just In: DC Comics Baddie "Clayface" Booked To Play A Huge Role in the Second Half of the Season!Adapting from the comic book storyline titled after this year's big bad, "Hush", Watchtower Season Three is set to include the most characters from Batman's Rogue Gallery than any other season. After appearances made by The Joker, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, and an expected appearance by The Riddler in the mid-season premiere, Clayface is the next to grace the small screen. However, the character is said to play a much larger role than his predecessor's.
"The idea of a man who can be anyone they want seems like the perfect villain-of-the-week episode," series creator, Jack Malone told VSGuide, "However, we find it more interesting to give [Clayface] more of an arc, and a purpose." Malone revealed that while the second half of the season is the Hush storyline "on steroids," it will involve another mysterious arc surrounding the origin of Clayface. The character is said to make their first appearance as an already villainous shape-shifter in the thirteenth episode of the season, but his origin story will come much later as the season progresses. "Hush is plucking these well-known Batman villains out of their future, and recruiting them in their prime while our heroes are yet to be in theirs," Malone revealed, confirming the Chris Davis penned episode of Watchtower featured both a Poison Ivy from the future, and an Ivy of the present. "Clayface is the sequel to that storyline in many ways."
When asked if this news came with an announcement that he would be the fourth season's big bad, producers revealed that there were no plans to include the DC Comics character in their yet-to-be-renewed fourth season. "It took some time before we could figure out what our fourth season would be, and who would be in it, but it's slowly taking shape as we get closer to finishing [season three]," Malone admitted, revealing that while cards were still on the table for anything to happen, Clayface would not be the new season's big bad, "Last season we had the Key Crime Syndicate (KCS) lead by Alberto Falcone, and then The Joker showed up in the second half. This season, we've booked Talia Al Ghul, Hush, and now Clayface."
Previously said, Clayface will make his first appearance in the thirteenth episode of the season, titled "DNA." He is expected to play a huge role in Eliza Dushku's final episodes of the season, and make several appearances leading up to the finale, titled "Hush."
So, what are your thoughts on the new DC Comics baddie coming to Watchtower?

Another majorly ICONIC character comes to "Watchtower"!! Woot!!
Seriously, having Bruce/Batman go up against someone as powerful and menacing as Clayface, I can't wait to see how you write it, Jack, not to mention casting it! I love the idea you're introducing the villains in their prime, and later establishing their origin - it's definitely an interesting twist on the useage of time travel, and makes me wonder just WHO 'Hush' really is if he's got that kind of capability!

The idea kind of hit me when it came time to outline the Poison Ivy episode, and I wanted to do something a little different with Ivy because even though "Trinity" was ultimately rebooted, and later cancelled, that episode was still one of the most stand out episodes of the series for me and I didn't want to just do: "Ivy comes to Gotham." So, I ended up with the idea that Ivy was from the future. So, we see how Ivy's story comes to an end, but her journey is far from over and knowing the Batman mythology, they have a lot of encounters yet to come. The idea to do the same for Clayface just felt like a sequel to this storyline that Hush is gathering enemies from the future, and kind of brings an explanation with it other than me saying "yeah, Ivy was from the future" or me saying "Clayface is also from the future." It's a lot of fun to do it this way, and playing with "time" as its own component this season has been a blast. As for Hush, I hope that when all is said and done, the pay-off is worth it. I hope everything makes sense. I mean, it makes sense to me but until an audience of people receive the "pay off" I can't really know for sure. He's definitely the most powerful enemy in the Rogue Gallery so far, and I've had a lot of fun with him. The second half starts to really spill the beans here and there. There is of course going to be a lot of red herrings -- it wouldn't be a mystery without one -- but also a lot of things that will add up by the end of the season. The last three episodes of the season are the most crucial to the Hush storyline with it coming together and painting a bigger picture of everything he's done during the times we haven't seen him, and the times we have. He may even be unmasked sooner than you think

I'm really excited for the Clayface storyline. I think when all is said and done, you'll see what stories have influenced his arc, and his origin, etc, but this added element of "time" makes it a lot fresher and more exciting to write. Hoping to include some nods to the comics and perhaps the many different incantations of the character that have existed throughout the mythology of those comics.

Watchtower Returns: New Episodes for May!TheVPN has announced that "Watchtower" is set for return on May 11, 2015 with the start of three fresh new episodes which mark the return of Eliza Dushku's Selina Kyle/Catwoman, the debut of DC Comics' Riddler, and Clayface, as well as the death of a major character that no one will see coming. Below are the title cards and preliminary descriptions for the upcoming run, as well as the air dates for each individual episode. Producers tell VSGuide that the mid-season premiere will bring Selina Kyle (Eliza Dushku) back into the main storyline with an arc focusing on the biggest question surrounding her character since her introduction: does she really have nine lives? Is she immortal? As well as that, Selina will be on a one-woman mission to bring Hush down, and will finally make a much needed dent in bringing the big bad of Season Three down. "There's a lot of progress made for Team Watchtower in the fight against Hush," Malone told of the upcoming episodes, "However, it's going to get worse before it gets better." Among these episodes are major set changes, iconic comic book introductions, and one shocking twist that no one will see coming: "We're saying goodbye to a beloved character in [episode thirteen]."
Need any more convincing for the upcoming run? Check out the preliminary descriptions below! 312 "THIEF" | May 11, 2015 ELIZA DUSHKU RETURNS TO "WATCHTOWER." THE IDENTITY THIEF STRIKES IN GOTHAM CITY - A killer known to remove the faces of all their victims surfaces in Gotham. Desperate to catch him, Gordon (Dylan Walsh) turns to The Batman (Christian Bale) with a lead that reunites him with a familiar face. When Dick (guest star Patrick J. Adams) is kidnapped, Helena (Kayla Ewell) races to Chloe (Allison Mack) for help in preventing him from being the next faceless victim. Meanwhile, Kyle (Bryan Greenberg) draws the attention of Talia (Stana Katic), who is desperate to escape the League of Shadows, and Vicki (Yvonne Strahovski) sets Perry (Michael McKean) up on a romantic date with Kahn (special guest star Carrie Fisher). 313 "DNA" | May 18, 2015 THE WATCHTOWER IS DESTROYED. HUSH IS REVEALED - Left without a team, Chloe (Allison Mack) and Selina (special guest star Eliza Dushku) salvage what's left of The Watchtower to prepare for war. Chloe is left to find another source for help: enter Barbara (guest star Emma Stone). DAMN YOU, MALONE!!!!! WHY MUST YOU CONSISTANTLY BREAK OUR HEARTS?! I don't know who dies, but WHOEVER it is, I'm most probably going to be sobbing into my keyboard afterwards!! I can't reveal the episode fourteen description until it airs because it very much deals with the aftermath of the big death. Despite major changes to the show, I'm excited about this next arc. Going into this season, I've known how Selina's episodes play out and finally having them finalised and written makes me even more anxious to air them. Hope ya'll like them
