It's been so long since I reviewed this show. I have since caught up, but I thought I'd go back and review every episode for you. It's gonna be tough reviewing this as though it was my first time reading it, but I'll give it my best shot. I left off on 1x08 so here we go!
1x08 "Newbie" - The car scene at the start was so fun. I love how these early episodes are mostly Alex and Alisha, their story, with hints of Michael and Paula (and other characters) sprinkled throughout. I just cracked up when Michael and Alex screamed, and the girls made fun of them for it. haha! Great stuff. Here's the episode that introduces David, one of my favorite characters. I like how sure of himself he is. He didn't let Jordan and Angela walk all over him or intimidate him. I love his snark in that scene. It showed that while he didn't want any trouble, he wasn't just gonna sit there and talk their insults. Looking forward to seeing how their relationship with David progresses!
Halloween Special "Spook Fest" - Alex and Alisha as Dracula and Dracula's wife is precious! These two are what brotps are made of, honestly. And then that brings us right to Michael and Paula, my favorite pair. Love how Michael still doesn't understand why she's always around, but just puts up with her because she's part of his life now, no matter how much he wishes she wasn't. Cut to the party, and of course they're wearing the same costume as the Devil Duo. I love how Jordan and Angela just dropped what they were holding, in pure shock and disgust at the sight of them. haha! Also, hearing them speak to each other in thick Romanian accents made the dialogue so much more entertaining. The idea for this party was pretty cool. This was just an all around fun episode. Loved that Alex got that victory in the end, with help from Alisha.
1x09 "Mom" - I loved the call back in the beginning about the guy with the square chin on that show Paula loves to watch. haha Right now im just going through these episodes, and writing my thoughts as I read. So this is why these reviews are so unorganized. And well, this episode took a sad turn, pretty fast. Alisha's mom showing up out of nowhere to take her home. Not cool. Paula is so self conscious when Michael assures Alyssa she's just the kids' agent. It was kinda sad. This episode is just full of sadness. haha I liked how David was there for Alisha though. And all these "A" names is giving me a headache! This episode actually felt shorter than usual, but I guess that's because it only took place in one place. Still good.
1x10 - "I'm Here" - This episode hit the heart strings for sure. First off, I loved that we saw how much the idea of Alisha leaving affected Alex. Secondly, that conversation between Michael and Alisha was really touching. Definitely a good father/daughter dynamic in this episode with those two and I loved seeing that side of Alex come out with Alisha. And of course, here comes Paula to lighten the mood. Her tackling Alisha was hilarious oh my god. I love this show and your writing so much because I'm able to visualize everything so well, and just the the sight of Paula running to the door, screaming at the top of her lungs HAHAHA! Anyway, I love how this episode leads right into the next.
1x11 - "Dance, Dance" - Paula and Michael chaperoning together... kinda like a date? RIGHT!? Jordan and Angela are so pathetic at this party, just waiting for Alex and Alisha to show up. Like, get a life, guys. We got more of a glimpse into their relationship, which while not always abusive, is still toxic. Seems like Angela loves her boyfriend too much, and needs to start loving herself more. Hope we get more insight later. Alisha and David are so cute here. lol And Alex just awkwardly going away, trying not to be a third wheel. I love how their relationship is strictly platonic and we haven't seen any romance between these two. Also, Michael standing up to James was honestly the best thing! Holy shit! We can start to see that he actually does care about her; or enough that he won't let some douchebag talk to her any kind of way. And that little kiss was cute as hell. That was a great moment for them and I appreciated it sooo much! That little scene we got with Alex and David was cool. I actually forgot all about the Fifty Shades of Grey reference! haha I liked seeing those two bond a little bit. I think this was their first scene without Alisha. But speaking of the Queen, Alisha YAAASSSS SLAAAYY!!! Haha Loved that karaoke session, with a bit of competition between her and Angela. A lot went down in this episode. That ending was so shady on the Devil Duo's part. I hope Alex can see through their bullshit when he questions Alisha about it.
1x12 - "Depart" - That outburst of Alex wasn't fun to read, and Alisha's reaction was heartbreaking. *cries* Then Paula makes a comment about how Swedish men and I die of laughter. She has a way of putting a smile on my face, no matter what the situation. I cherish characters like that, and I love how you're able to bring humor to emotional scenes in that way. I loved Alisha's little goodbyes to everyone. Her saying that Michael is like a dad to her was really nice, and him telling her she's like a daughter. Almost got all teary eyed at that. But what really got me was Alisha's letter to Alex. So heartfelt and emotional. Lots of emotion in this finale, and you handled it very well. Nice place to end.
Sequence One - What a nice first sequence! There were some really nice character moments throughout, both dramatic and comical. Even though Paula is probably the most outwardly funny character on the show, I love Alex's dry sense of humor and David's snarky dialogue. Alisha's passion and Michael's nurturing personality are what made Audition sequence one a great read! I realize you wrote this years ago, so you don't even have to respond to this, but I'm glad I'm going back to re-reading from the beginning! Now, onto sequence two!
