For this Member of the Month, we’re going back to our roots, seeing as October is VPN’s anniversary month, and our network is built on the idea of creativity and imagination, becoming experiences we can all enjoy, I think it’s only right for your next challenge to be;
Create a synopsis for a virtual series! This contest will be split into categories for which you can choose to center for series around. These categories consist of two completely different TV themes/genres, and your challenge is to combine them in order to make something fresh, and unique.
Genres
- Medical Drama & Western (Like combining E.R with Deadwood) Taken by Darrin
- Police Drama & Horror (Like combining CSI: Miami with American Horror Story) Taken by Kerry & Connor
- Teen Drama & Government Conspiracy Thriller (Like combining One Tree Hill with 24) Taken by Krysla
- Historical Fantasy & Spy Drama (Like combining Game of Thrones with Alias) Taken by Amin
- Supernatural Drama & Soap Opera (Like combining True Blood with Days of Our Lives) Taken by David & Steve
- Film Noir & Fantasy (Like combining The Untouchables & Once Upon a Time) Taken by Brady
- Space Opera & Family Drama (Like combining Battlestar Galactica with Everwood) Taken by MJ
You may choose from any one of these genre pairings, but you MUST claim your genre before posting your entry! They are strictly first come, first serve, but if all categories are taken by the time you wish to enter, than you will have the opportunity to choose from complete list.
However, no more than two people can posses the same genre pairing! I’m almost positive we won’t be getting 16 entries, but if it so happens that we do, I will come up with a few more genre pairings.
Rules
- Your premise must clearly demonstrate use of both genres. - You may include characters/cast in your premise, but it is not required. - Please enter, and have fun!
You will be judged on:
- Originality & Feasibility - Overall Creativity - How well you meshed both genres
SUBMITTED ENTRIES
"Blood & Spurs," an original Western/Medical Drama by Darrin McCann
"A City Divided," an original Noir/Fantasy Drama by Brady Brown
"Penance," an original Supernatural/Soap Opera by S.A. Goodman

That's a tough one. I think I'm going to reset the pairings, and let members pick from the complete list again. Go ahead and choose from one of the other ones.

Blood & SpursHolding the heart of the west, in the palm on his hand OFFICIAL THEME SONG: “Little Black Submarines” by The Black Keys **Just the first minute of it** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the wild West there are three types of people: The rich, the poor and the outlaw. And for Henry “Blackheart” Smith, the lines between the three tend to swirl in a pool of crimson. To the outside world he's a doctor who saves lives. To the dark underbelly of society he's an outlaw who takes them. The world is his oyster and Kettle Creek is his town, unbeknownst to it's citizens. Blackheart is but a name, for no one has seen his face. The precisions in his kills makes him notorious throughout the west, leaving Kettle Creek safe. But a new outlaw is building strong, rich roots in Kettle Creek. Mayor Benson Holts, a once noble man has fallen victim to greed and corruption. He's the key to Kettle Creek's destruction when he and his new Sheriff, Joesph Tanner, issue a reward for Blackheart's capture, dead or alive. Can Henry save his town, his practice and his life, or will he lose everything in a haze of gunpowder and lead? CAST & CHARACTERS Henry "Blackheart" Smith (portrayed by Aaron Paul) – Henry Smith has not always had a black heart. Many years ago a tragedy pulled him into the life of an outlaw. He was the worst of the worst, until he met Anaba. After a daring rescue, Anaba showed Henry another way. She taught him all she knew of her ancestor's healing techniques, and with his skillful hands Henry became a doctor any town would love. But deep down there's still a thirst for blood, a hunger for greed, deep down where Blackheart lies. Mayor Benson Holts (portrayed by Tony Shalhoub) – The Mayors been playing poker with all the wrong people, or at least he would be if every man that walked through the arches of Kettle Creek weren't getting robbed, beat up or on some occasions killed. All thanks to that masked outlaw Blackheart. But Mayor Benson will be damn if he lets one man destroy the plans hes got for this small, ghost town. He'll bend the law to his will, to watch that “Sum' bitch” burn. Sheriff Joesph Tanner (portrayed by Richard Madden) – A man of honor, who lives by the badge. He's cold, and direct, but still carries a firm integrity. Mayor Holts brings Tanner to Kettle Creek to keep order and uphold his law, but inner conflict occurs when Tanner must choose to trust the Devil he knows, or the man he was hired to kill. Maria Holts (portrayed by Odette Annable) – Maria's the apple of her father's eye, and the spur in his backside. Unlike her father, Maria is a woman of virtue, and will stop at nothing to see her father hang for his crimes, but she's got to be smart about it. Her mischief, and sex appeal get her into a lot of trouble. She maybe good, but she loves to be bad. Anaba (portrayed by Sarah Shahi) – Anaba is a Navajo warrior woman, and Henry's nurse. She is the only person who knows his secret. Her bond with Henry is strong, and her loyalty stronger. Anaba owes him her life, for Henry rescued her from a life of slavery. Although her kind is unwelcome in a white nation Anaba doesn't let it affect her, for she is strong of will and holds a heart of courage. She is a healer, and saves the lives of the very people who discriminate against her. EPISODE GUIDE EPISODE 1.01 – A GRAVE SITUATION[/b] When a young girl miraculously returns from the grave, the whole town turns to Henry as to why. Meanwhile the new Sheriff in town has a run in with Anaba that leaves him speechless. Mayor Holts reward for Blackheart's head brings in tourists of the worst kind. EPISODE 1.02 – FINE LINE TO BE WALKING[/b] The town's bank is robbed and the citizens yell to the Sheriff for Blackheart's head. Two young boys find themselves attached at the hip, literally, when a railroad spike impales them. Henry must juggle between surgery and finding out who's framed him. EPISODE 1.03 – ALONG CAME A TRAVELING SOLDIER[/b] Anaba is caught between a rock and a hard place when her people are attacked and seek refuge in Kettle Creek. The Sheriff makes a grave mistake that lands someone dead. Blackheart meets a young woman who's not all she seems. EPISODE 1.04 – TAVERN & TROLLOPSEPISODE 1.05 – A HANGMAN'S NOOSEEPISODE 1.06 – THE CALVARY HAS ARRIVEDEPISODE 1.07 – SHOWDOWN OR SHOWTIMEEPISODE 1.08 – INCURABLE HEARTACHEEPISODE 1.09 – THE WIND OF CHANGEEPISODE 1.10 – SAVE A HORSE, KILL A COWBOYEPISODE 1.11 – A BARREL'S SMOKE DRIFTSEPISODE 1.12 – THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE DEAD::NOTES:: My two genres were Western and Medical Drama. I see this series very nitty gritty. It's got Sons of Anarchys blurred line of moral high-ground, with Grey's Anatomy's surgical elements as well as drama. Its got old time shoot em' up kick ass cowboy action ala some John Wayne. As well as an underlining of mystery. Honestly this has to be my favorite MotM ever! I had a lot of fun doing it, and who knows maybe one day I might actually pitch this.

Wow, Darrin. You've outdone yourself! I love this pitch, it's fantastic. Something I would definitely love to see a pilot for. Too bad this is just MotM, but if you ever decide to develop this further, I would not object!
Alright! Darrin has set the bar guys. Good luck!! XD

Oh, I've already informed Darrin that I'll totally rocket launch his place if he doesn't do this. No pressure to him though.
And yeah, the bar has been set and it's high up there. Let's hope the rest of us can meet it. xD

A City Divided PREMISE:1946. The amount of gangster Squads among the city of Los Angeles is unfathomable. The war between them has been ragging on for years and years. Until a new race accidentally came out of hiding. The race they call the "Tales" -- Elves, Fairies, Trolls, Goblins, Nymphs, and Dragons, creatures who have stayed in hiding for thousands of years. They have the ability to camouflage themselves into human-like form, but there true self is unchangeable. The war among the Squads covered up their existence, until they were discovered. Now, one thing has brought the Squads together. Something they all have in common. Their hatred for the Tales. The war has shifted, and the city of Los Angeles has been divided -- those who support the Tales, and those who oppose them. The Squads will stop at nothing to rid their city of such monstrous creatures, and the Tales are forced to retaliate. 1948. The war between the city of Los Angeles is larger than it has ever been. The death toll continues to rise, and it seems there will be no winner in this battle. But a glimmer of hope soon reaches the surface once Cole Teague, a member of the Squad, meets Maxine Briar, a fairy in hiding who wants nothing but peace in Los Angeles. Can they keep this love a secret, or will this raise the violence of the war, and ultimately get them killed? CHARACTERS:Cole Teague (Portrayed by Matt Bomer): A ruthless gangster who is disgusted by the thought of Tales living in his city. He has the same thought process as almost everyone else on his side of the war -- kill all the Tales. Being new to the Upper Authority, the leaders of the Squads, he is sent out on late night patrol, where he encounters a woman walking down the sidewalk alone. He slams on his brakes, exits his car, and makes his way to the woman, going to work his magic. After meeting Maxine, it's almost as if love-at-first-sight took over Cole, because the two are inseparable. But one night, Maxine's secret comes to life, and Cole learns that he is in love with something he utterly despises. Maxine Briar (Portrayed by Emma Stone): A sweet, innocent, firehouse when she needs to be type of girl. She's mysterious, once she meets Cole, even though she instantly falls in love with him. There's still something she's not telling him. All she was doing was walking home after an underground Tale's meeting. But Cole can't know that. Maxine doesn't hate humans, all she wants is peace. But if Cole discovered the secret she was hiding, peace would be the least of her worries. And her secretes soon comes to light. She is, in fact, a fairy in disguise. Jack Phelps (Portrayed by Bruce Willis): Leader of the Squad and the Upper Authority. He's stern, cold, and has no remorse for putting a bullet between a Nymphs eye's. He acts a father figure for Cole, and begins to suspect something's troubling him after he meets Maxine, but he puts it off, because he knows what love can do to someone. Belinda (Portrayed by Sigourney Weaver): Queen of the Tales, who has set up base underground. She's a Dragon, whose original plan was to try and be peaceful with the Squads, but she is a firm believer in attacking when attacked first. Although ruthless, she is a mother to all of her Tales, and treats them all with respect. Like Jack, she suspects something's amiss when Maxine begins sneaking around. Randy Kelso (Portrayed by Joseph Gordon Levitt): the newest member of the Squad. After passing his examination, he is thrilled ot get in and start protecting the city he has always known and loves. He does anything Jack says, and will, most certainly, kill a Tale if he is told to. And as Cole's best friend, he worries when he begins to sneak around, just as everyone around him does. Eldest Macentyre (Portrayed by Matthew Fox): Belinda's right hand man. He will do anything she says without hesitation, which usually involves leading Tale revolts. He also works as the Commander of the Tale Army, which has endless battles with the Squads. He will do anything for his race, which also involves the act of killing. EPISODES:1.01 - War Rages On: The Squads continue to rage war against one another, turning the city of Los Angeles into a city of murder and drugs. But once the Tales, fairytale beings who have stayed in hiding for centuries, are discovered, the Squads find something in common: their hatred for these beings. Now, the war has turned into Squads vs. Tales, and when one from each side fall in love, no one can even fathom what will happen next. 1.02 - Love Conquers All: Cole and Maxine's romance is put to the test once the Squads capture Eldest, and Cole is appointed to interrogate him. And when Eldest refuses to talk, Jack orders to Cole to pull out all the stops, including torture. 1.03 - Dearly Departed: After the capture of Eldest, Belinda call for a trade with Jack. In return from receiving Eldest, she will turn herself in. Meeting in secret, Maxine begs for Cole to release Eldest, and appose Jack. But will Cole choose his lover or his Squad? NOTES:So, my two genres were Noir and Fantasy, and this is what was produced. XD I imagine this as having a bagillion guns and shooting involved, and some fantasy elements thrown in there, with, probably, a little bit of mystery. But yeah, this was tons of fun, and I hope you guys enjoy it!
