Can i just say, im excited that batwoman and lana will have some connection.Of course im excited that she has such a good rapport already. Cant wait to read it for myself. What about Lana and Chloe?! Can you tell me what the girls who grew up in Smallville go through this season together? I don't want to give too much away. I'll just say that Chloe considers Lana a part of her family — she even added Lana onto her family tree as a sister back in Season 2 of Smallville — and so they share a very sisterly dynamic with one another and hold a lot of trust in one another. That's what we fall on with those two in Season 4 of Watchtower. They're family. A development happening in the first half between these two characters is something I don't really want to give away, but it's something to certainly look forward to in the first nine. On top of that, you can expect to see Lana share a lot of intense scenes with Oliver, and some heartfelt interactions with Helena. And like Katherine, she's going to have a romantic relationship this season that will be revealed in episode 4, 'Batwoman,' that just might shock you. Can i just say that adding Lana to this show was the best idea ever?! I cant wait to see what you do with her And poor Chloe. I cant wait to see how she takes Oliver coming back. Although we can skip that and talk about how she will FINALLY see Clark.

All I will say about Clark is that he's in the first two episodes of the season and something happens at the end of episode 2, titled 'Feud,' that will shape his arc for the rest of the season. You'll know it when it happens. Those are the only two he will be in for these first nine, but he will be in more episodes in the back half, and of course he's involved in the Smallville High Reunion episode.

Because quite frankly, it is great and I cant wait to see how it ends Since Season 2, there has always been a plan to have a Batman vs Superman face off. I had an idea to do a three-part story. The first was "Alien," with Bruce meeting Zod, the second was "Hope" when Bruce met Lex Luthor and revealed his mentality towards Kryptonians / Aliens from other planets, and now "Feud" where hopefully we'll see Batman and Superman come face to face. As for the other heroes, that came about as a result of knowing what Bruce's situation was after the Season 3 finale. And it was actually more fun to write these moments that had Superman go up against Green Arrow and Black Canary and Batwoman.

Oh well.ahaha Im really excited to see you write more GA and BC considering certain series, who shall remain nameless, decided to ruin that pairing for good. Well Kyle was able to effectively time travel so maybe he'll show up at some point in the future As for Nightwing and Speedy, I think the episode would feel very cramped. Oliver needs someone to look after his home town while he's in Gotham, and Nightwing's story comes to an end in the season premiere. I really enjoyed developing the friendship between Oliver and Dinah in Season 2. I remember saying that I don't see Oliver/Dinah ever becoming more than that on Watchtower — as it's not really important to explore everything from the comics on the show — but I did love writing them in Season 2 and it felt like a good development to explore in Season 3 and 4. If you're a fan of that relationship, then episode 5, titled 'Debt,' is a big one for them in these first nine.

Just to add in my thoughts on the "Superman Returns!" arc:
I have been looking forward to this for years, just to find out finally where Clark's been all this time, and what happened to him to keep him away, not just from Metropolis and his 'real life', but also Lois. The fact that Maxwell Lord is playing such a huge part of the season gives me a little chill considering the HUGE comic storyline that their 'relationship' ended up being.
As for the Superman/Batman fight, I find myself more looking forward to the idea of Clark's friends being the ones to take him on in a smack-down fight then either Bruce or Kate. It's nothing against their characters, per se, but rather the emotional impact of seeing Ollie and Dinah face up against the man who inspired them both to be something greater. Ollie may have donned the costume first, but Clark is what made Ollie push up his 'A' game and go from Robin Hood-wannabe to a proper hero, the same with Dinah when she made the transition from bounty hunter/conservative hawk to hero fighting for the innocent.
When it comes to Bruce (or perhaps even Kate, who knows at this point) taking on Clark, I have flashes of Bruce's tactics against Davis/Doomsday back in S3. I'm looking forward to seeing how you visual/depict Kate/Batwoman - I've not read much of her as a comic character, although I am aware of her high social status being akin to Bruce's. I did enjoy the animated "Batman: Bad Blood" film which introduced her into the nu52DCAU Batfamily - she's a lot more militaristic in that, with her miltary background highlighted more then her society days, so I'm left wondering if you'll use any of that in the VPNDCU version of the character...
From a purely selfish standpoint, I've enjoyed having to form the idea of "M:SCU" around this huge plot point, and have the city become a somewhat darker place, having lost a little of it's glint and limelight without their resident superhero. Before, the plan was that he'd become busy being a 'worldwide hero' versus 'Metropolis hero', but they'd still take pride in that - having this underlying mystery allowed a certain carelessness to be portrayed, which will be highlighted during the first few eps of S2.
SIDEPOINT: When you say 'Nightwing's story comes to an end', I hope that means you're not totally washing your hands of the character? I know you've made a conscious choice to have Dick and Bruce not have the same kind of connection as most iterations, which I commend as a very original decision, since he was a more vital part of Helena's storyline. But I hope we haven't seen the last of the sole surviving 'Flying Grayson'..?

Just to add in my thoughts on the "Superman Returns!" arc: I have been looking forward to this for years, just to find out finally where Clark's been all this time, and what happened to him to keep him away, not just from Metropolis and his 'real life', but also Lois. The fact that Maxwell Lord is playing such a huge part of the season gives me a little chill considering the HUGE comic storyline that their 'relationship' ended up being. I will say that the story of where Clark has been all this time is not involved in episode 2, 'Feud.' That episode will, instead, set up Clark's arc for the season which isn't about where he was during his disappearance. That story will be told this season, though. The episode is less about who is going to go up against Superman, and more about the inner conflict between two characters and their varying outlooks on the situation. It won't be 40-50+ pages of action. As for Oliver and Dinah, they will have their own separate interactions with Superman in the episode (as will Katherine). It won't be similar to the Doomsday episode in Season 3 where they all team up against the Kryptonian threat at once. I've pulled a lot from the comics when it comes to Katherine. She's not a copy and paste, though. The premiere establishes quite a fragmented, but very tragic past for her — an event pulled out of the comics — and episode 4, 'Batwoman' also plays more into the moment of when and why she became Batwoman. The character in the comics is rich with story. She has such a fascinating life, and I hope to unearth more and more of it as the season develops. But there are a handful of differences because the character has to adapt to this world first established by Smallville and continued by Watchtower, as opposed to me adapting to the comic book world. The whole idea of it came about from the fact that there's a seven year time jump at the end of Smallville that shows that Clark and Lois still aren't married and still haven't figured it out. I created a storyline based around supporting that lack of development for those two to serve as an explanation as to why they just never made it happen, and the rest built upon that idea. There's literally no response I can give to this without spoiling things one way or the other. You'll just have to see what happens in the premiere, which is airing in 2 days. I will say that while Nightwing was quite detached from Batman in his introduction, this episode will offer a similar conflict between them that stems from the comics. And this is a really big episode for the character, so if you're a fan of the Nightwing/Dick Grayson, you'll love his potential last episode of 'Watchtower.'

Exclusive: 'Watchtower' Creator & Cast Preview Upcoming Third Episode, Titled 'Damaged!' 'Watchtower' Season 4 continues with an episode that features the return of Helena Bertinelli, a farewell for Pauline Kahn, and a promise of tragedy for our growing team of superheroes. VSGuide sat down with the series creator, and members of the cast to preview the upcoming episode, titled 'Damaged,' expected to air this Monday, October 17 at 8/7 central. THE HUNTRESS RETURNS | The end of last week's episode promised the return of Helena Bertinelli (Kayla Ewell) when she finally broke out of Arkham Asylum. However, the Helena fans know and love may not be the Helena that surfaces in this week's episode. "Helena's resurrection isn't as smooth as Chloe's was in [Season 3]," actress Kayla Ewell told VSGuide, "Everything is a little scrambled for her, and she's reliving this crusade she began as the Huntress when it was about killing those involved and hunting down Black Mask." Other than the fact that Black Mask is long gone, there's just one other problem with this: Helena thinks Batman (Christian Bale) is Black Mask. "Helena's perception is a little skewed and when she reunites with Batman, she sees him only as Black Mask and vows to kill him." TEARING UP OLD WOUNDS | After a short vacation in Metropolis, Pauline Kahn (Carrie Fisher) returns to Gotham, and is welcomed with open arms from Vicki (Yvonne Strahovski), who is quick to mention that Gotham Gazette is under new management: Maxwell Lord (Gil Bellows), to be specific. "Obviously Kahn doesn't take the news too well," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide on the character's return, "You'll see her storm over to the new Editor-in-Chief's office to offer Lord a piece of her mind, and I think we can all assume how that's going to go down." Due to Fisher's busy schedule, the episode was penned as a potential swan song for the character. "Kahn has been through a lot since stepping onto the scene in [Season 3], and we really dig into that to navigate through a possible endpoint for her," Malone continued, promising some form of conclusion to the character's story. "It's not a happily ever after when Maxwell Lord is involved."
DEATH IS COMING | While the season began with resurrection, a warning from Zatanna (Serinda Swan) promises a major death by season's end. "We've always known that [Season 4] would offer a huge loss for the team, and with our theme of the season focusing on control, it was important to explore what we - as humans - can and cannot control," the Watchtower creator told VSGuide. And while the show has explored the restorative power of Legion Rings, Lazarus Pits and metahuman abilities that can heal the dead or dying, Zatanna's warning is very specific: it cannot be undone. GROUP THERAPY REQUIRED | At the end of last week's episode, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) was lured in to The Saviour Foundation, a shelter and support center for the survivors of Gotham's most heinous attacks, and when this week's episode begins, Lana is running her very first session. "With her work at the Isis Foundation, and everything she's experienced in life, it made the most sense to have Lana run The Saviour Foundation in Gotham," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide, "While Lana's time with ARGUS is both heroic and rewarding, she's felt quite disconnected from humanity and this allows her to use her experiences and her knowledge to help heal, support and strengthen people of Gotham who have been made to feel weak." One client in particular will catch Lana's eye during a group therapy session, and it's none other than the Red Hood himself. "Lana narrows in on Jimmy, and feels as though she can relate to him on a specific level," Malone revealed, teasing an interesting dynamic between the two characters, "We'll see if she has anyway impact in inadvertently stopping the Red Hood before he truly begins his crusade in Gotham." SUPERHERO POLITICS | If the feud between Chloe (Allison Mack) and Bruce in last week's episode wasn't enough, viewers should prepare for round two when their perspectives on Helena's unique situation greatly differs. "Bruce has this very painful sense of guilt over the entire situation because he's responsible for Helena's resurrection and he feels he's created a monster that needs to be put down," actor Christian Bale told VSGuide, "He knew of the risks when he slipped the Lazarus Serum in Helena's drink in the [Season 3] finale and he understands it's his responsibility to do what needs to be done to honour Helena, and protect Gotham." Unfortunately, that requires killing her. "Instead of letting things get out of hand in the way it did with Bruce's confrontation of Superman, Chloe goes to surprising lengths to keep Bruce out of the way so she can look for another solution." SEARCHING FOR SULLIVAN | While Dinah (Alaina Huffman) has made an effort to keep Oliver (Justin Hartley) away from uncovering his history with Chloe, Naomi Singh (Megalyn Echikunwoke) refuses to leave her boss high and dry. "Naomi offers Oliver one final piece of information she's scouted as a means to end their brief partnership and it leads Oliver in the direction of Lana Lang," Justin Hartley teased of his character's storyline, "We get to see a nice little reunion between [Oliver and Lana] that may or may not take a sudden turn for the worst." When asked if Oliver will ever truly put all the pieces of the puzzle together, Hartley revealed that he could, but doubts it will offer any clarity for him. "Oliver has no memory of Chloe, or the life they shared, and I think him finding it out — if he ever does — will just summon more and more questions until his head explodes." But that won't stop him. The question is: will Lana offer him the truth? 'Damaged' airs October 17, 8/7 central on theVPN.

Exclusive: Kelsey Grammer Returns To 'Watchtower!'
Frasier star, Kelsey Grammer has booked a return to 'Watchtower' for the upcoming ninth episode of the season, titled 'Ultimatum.' Grammer first appeared as DC Comics' Mister Freeze in the Season 2 Christmas Special, titled 'Chill,' where his character's villainy was thwarted after Bruce (Christian Bale) promised a room in his lab to work on a cure for his dying wife. Now, the character is set to return in the mid-season finale where he will play a key role in Lana Lang's (Kristin Kreuk) storyline.
"When we revisit the character of [Mr. Freeze], he's in a much better place and is still working on developing a cure for his wife," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide, "Unfortunately for Lana, things take a turn for the worst and Bruce desperately seeks his help." The 'Watchtower' creator revealed that their story for Mr. Freeze is more of a "redemptive" one than an origin story for one of Batman's biggest enemies from the comics. "This [episode] really shows how far he's come, and how much Bruce's offer and help meant to him."
While it sounds like the character will be playing more of a heroic role in the episode, VSGuide had to ask about the character's iconic role as a Batman villain in the comics, and whether we could see that side of him again. "We take certain creative liberties when it comes to the comics and how it translates to the show, and right now we don't really see a motivation for Mr. Freeze to return a life of crime," Malone answered, committed to the version of the character who's primary goal is to save his wife, "It all links back to his wife, and right now he's been given the tools and the resources to save her so it wouldn't make sense for him to turn against Bruce or the city." For fans interested in seeing that side of the character, Malone praised Grammer's work and desire to work with him in the future. "Kelsey [Grammer] is such a wonderful actor and we would love to see him eventually grow into that villainous role, but we just don't want to force it," Malone assured fans, before reminding us, "There's always [Season 5]."
So, what do you think about Mister Freeze's return to Watchtower? How do you think he will help Lana? Let us know below!

Exclusive: Eka Darville Joins Reoccurring Cast As Karl Fox, Husband of Lucius Fox! VSGuide has learned exclusively that Eka Darville has joined the reoccurring guest cast for Watchtower Season 4. Darville, best known for his work on 'Spartacus' and 'Jessica Jones,' is set to play an original character named Karl Fox; he is a self-employed online blogger described as an eternally excited and uplifting man who is married to head of Wayne Enterprise's weapons division, Lucius Fox (Charles Michael Davis). The character is expected to make their first appearance in the ninth episode of the season, titled 'Ultimatum.'
"Karl comes into the show at a point where his other half, Lucius, really needs someone to pull him out of his cloud of self doubt and inspire him to be the hero that Karl knows him to be," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide. Funnily enough, Karl is unaware of how Lucius spends his nights. "Karl walks straight into this world of vigilantes and everything just clicks together. He has a very surprising reaction to it all," Malone revealed, excited for audiences to see his debut on Watchtower, "It's always fun to write characters stumbling across this secret superhero life, and this of course is one of those moments [in episode nine]."
The only question about this character's introduction: why haven't we seen or heard of him before? "We've definitely referenced him in [episode seventeen] of Season 3 - when Helena realised Lucius and Chloe would make a perfect match - but we were waiting for the right time to bring him into the fold, if ever that time presented itself," Malone answered, revealing this was a character that's been in the works for a long time. "Lucius is a supporting character, and it's often difficult introducing a supporting character to another supporting character without tipping the balance in a negative way, but with Lucius stepping into a bigger role as Batwing, we felt he needed his own purpose, and his own stakes, and a world built around him that is just as palpable as the world built around Chloe's and Bruce's and Helena's."
So what can we expect from the character? Malone told VSGuide that there is a potential to see the character follow his husband into the life of heroism. "It would be a lot of fun to see those worlds bleed together at some point," Malone admitted, hinting at a superhero storyline for Karl, "However, it's all about finding the right time to tell these stories and see if the opportunity will present itself." Until then, fans can expect to see Karl in a minimum of four episodes as a crucial figure in Lucius' journey as Batwing.
Production on the mid-season finale is expected to wrap today, with work beginning on the next batch of episodes that are expected to air in early 2017. Let us know your thoughts on the latest casting scoop below!
