Have to say, I'm very pleased with the introduction of Mr Lucius Fox, jr! I'm not that familiar with Charles, I haven't watched any of "The Originals" besides the back door pilot episode, but he seems like a good fit so far I have to admit, ever since you killed of Morgan Freeman's Lucius, (back in "Fear", wasn't it?) I've wondered who and how you'd replace him with in the capacity of Batman's 'engineer'. Nice too see you kept it in the family I love the fact that he's going to make mistakes, and that because his suit is so advanced, it does a lot of the work for him - it reminds me very much of Terry McGuiness, the future Batman in "Batman Beyond", and his early days of taking over the bat-mantle from Bruce.

I'm really excited about the season premiere because with Chloe, Batman and the Huntress out of the picture, it really offers a lot of story for the auxiliary characters like Vicki, Gordon, Lucius, Dick and Barbara. There's always been a lot of talk about wanting to see the bat family on 'Watchtower' and wanting to see certain aspects of the Batman mythology translate into 'Watchtower,' and I think this is the most we'll get to see of that ever, and it feels like a perfect way to open up the new season. There's certainly not going to be this season long arc about Lucius as Batwing, but something definitely takes place during his stint as Batwing that will offer a bigger story for the character going forward, and will also act as a precursor to the introduction of Batwoman, who will be around for a season-long arc. The decision behind killing Lucius Fox off in 'Fear' wasn't a very easy one to make but it did make sense to me at the time of writing that episode, and I almost felt like that version of Lucius was almost made redundant by the presence of Alfred. I knew when I killed him off that I'd have to find some way of keeping "Lucius Fox" in continuity but I wanted a different presence on the show in that particular role, and so introducing Lucius Fox Jr made a whole lot of sense to me and suddenly things just fell into place in a really nice way for Season 4. I feel like he's not just the guy who helps manufacture weapons, but he's a part of the team and a part of the bigger picture because of his partnership with Vicki that formed, because of his connection to Batman and Bruce, and how you'll see that bleed into forming some sort of dynamic with Chloe too. Also his scene with Helena last season was one of my absolute favourite moments to write and it's stuck with me since so I'm very committed to exploring this character, despite not being part of the main cast. Also, I have not seen 'The Originals' or 'Batman Beyond.' My best friend wants me to sit down and binge watch Batman Beyond - and I totally will eventually - but that's something for future Jack to enjoy.

Just In: Erica Durance Booked for Highly Anticipated Superman Returns Episode of 'Watchtower!' For those wondering if Clark Kent's return to 'Watchtower' would bring along his other half, VSGuide can finally confirm that Erica Durance will be part of the highly anticipated episode that brings Superman back to Earth. In the episode, Clark Kent will resurface under the control of Maxwell Lord (Gil Bellows) who sends him after the remaining vigilantes in Gotham City. So where does Lois come into all of this?
"Lois will have a very brief role in [episode two] that really helps set up a huge component of Clark's journey in Season 4," series creator Jack Malone told VSGuide. "This is such a huge episode, and we can't have Clark around every week, so things end in a way - alongside Lois - that help explain his absence in future episodes until the story calls for his return." Despite that news sounding very gloomy, it seems as though fans will finally receive the Clark and Lois reunion they've been waiting for. "It's obviously still too early to see the two walk down the aisle, so there's some drama to be expected, but hopefully it's all worth it."
Erica Durance is expected to make multiple guest appearances throughout the season, similarly to her role in Season 3, but can be expected to make her first of the season in episode 2, titled 'Feud.'

Can I just say this was the best news I've heard all day. Lois is my favorite and I really wanted her to be a main character this season. But its whatever, I got Lana instead. ALthough......if you want to be nice, you could have Lois and Lana be friends! Also Im super glad we are finally getting the answer for what happened to Clark. I mean we got that brief glimpse of Superman in Season Two and it was during a shocking time. So im intrigued. Which is why Im not going to ask anymore questions. Im just going to go into this season without asking about anything, and im going to enjoy this season without the many questions. Even though my curious nature will probably ask anyways. But Im really excited for this season and it might just top S2 as my favorite season. Especially since a certain CHILD will finally be addressed soon. Oh and there's some Highschool Reunion thats going to happen and I for one will be STAYING AWAY from questioning that episode

Oh and there's some Highschool Reunion thats going to happen and I for one will be STAYING AWAY from questioning that episode The appearance of Superman in Season Two was something I like to see as Clark's goodbye to Chloe. When writing it, it felt like we needed to see Superman for the sake of the Justice League, and the nature of the episode, but it was also designed to be this quiet goodbye for Chloe and Clark. No words were needed. Chloe felt it. And since then, he's been missing. I'm excited to tell his story throughout this season. As for Lois, I never really saw an opportunity to bring her on board as a main character. We already have a reporter in Vicki, and I think it would be a regression for Lois to take her out of the world of Superman, and out of Metropolis and drop her in Gotham for a while. It would almost feel like a repeat of Perry with "when is she headed back to Metropolis" sort of thing. With Lana, the possibilities are kind of endless and it's been fun to give her this A.R.G.U.S background, and to have her still with the suit and have that be part of her story. I think what Chris did with the character on Trinity was really cool and as much as I'd love to mirror it and keep hope alive that he'd come back to do more with Lana and more with that show, I felt like with Watchtower having only two seasons of life left into, it's best to just tell a different story with Lana and so I hope you all like what's in store for her this season. In terms of Lois and Lana, there aren't any plans yet but Lana is a very mature character and always has been. I don't think you'd see any cattiness from those two. Lois is more trigger happy for sure, but I'm not setting out to create some rivalry between them as a result of Clark. I'm not even sure if their paths will cross or not, so you'll have to wait and see on that one

OOOHH!! I'm seriously wanting to know now WHICH villain from "Smallville" will reappear, and if Clark himself will be interacting with him at any point, especially if he's still under Maxwell's control at that point! As for "Sirens" just that name gives me tingles, and makes me wonder if a certain couple of 'cat-like' girls will be back for it, not to mention a lady with an affinity for plants and a crazy former psychiatrist-turned-clown-lover!!

I think it might surprise you. I will eventually reveal who the S10 'Smallville' villain is when I'm locked in and writing that specific episode, but it's someone that is going to enhance certain aspects of Chloe's storyline, and also tie into the earlier days of 'Watchtower' and bring us a little full circle in a way. So I'm definitely looking forward to writing 'Debt.' That's some nice speculation for 'Sirens.' Perhaps we will be seeing Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn form some type of a team

Exclusive: Yvonne Strahovski Suits Up As Batgirl For Upcoming 'Watchtower' Season 4 Premiere! For those wondering who would don the yellow and black Batgirl costume in the upcoming season premiere, VSGuide can confirm that the honour belongs to Yvonne Strahovski's Vicki Vale! While the reveal may come as a shock to some, considering the character hasn't been on a superhero trajectory on the show or in the comics, series creator Jack Malone reveals in this exclusive interview with VSGuide why Vicki was the perfect candidate to suit up, why now is the right time to introduce a Batgirl, and how long this stint will last. Check it out!
VSGUIDE | So the news has officially broke: Vicki Vale will step into the role of Batgirl in the upcoming season premiere. I guess our first question has to be what the hell? [laughs] What was the decision behind pushing her in this trajectory?
JACK MALONE | At the end of last season, I felt like it made perfect sense to have her learn about Bruce being The Batman, and to fully emerge her into this world. She had her own sort of tragedy in losing Mitchell, and then facing off with Clayface, and it just felt like learning about Bruce and becoming that much closer to the Batman side of things with Lucius as well would kind of be a well earned ending for her arc that season. And when it came to breaking story for our first episode back, it brought up these questions of... what does Vicki do with this secret? What does Vicki do with Bruce being potentially dead? What does she do when she comes into this kind of knowledge of someone as fearful as The Batman in the hearts of the criminals when he's no longer around to keep the streets clean? It felt like an obvious "Oh my god, she has to suit up" kind of moment in the same way that Lucius is suiting up too.
VSGUIDE | So it's about keeping that figure of Batman alive in the city despite his disappearance?
JACK MALONE | Absolutely. Something that we explore in the first episode back is this idea of what happens after something like Hush, something like The Joker, you know? You have this period of "things are better" but then who is the next guy to roll in and try to take over the city? Introducing the Red Hood Gang is all about this one guy wanting to remind Gotham what and who runs it. It's always been this corrupt city but since defeating Hush, and since the city all came together to do just that, it's never been better. So there's this idea that if Vicki and Lucius can create these instances where The Batman is showing up to take these criminals down... it creates the fear and creates this 'myth' that will keep criminals in hiding.
VSGUIDE | At what point do you decide that she becomes Batgirl as opposed to some other costumed superhero?
JACK MALONE | Well, it just fit within our story. Despite the comics and how many versions of the character exist, Batgirl will always be Barbara Gordon to me. I was never interested in bringing in someone else like Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown to fill those shoes, but as you know, Barbara's trajectory was always going to be Oracle instead of Batgirl. In breaking the story for the [Season 4] premiere, it felt like Vicki suiting up needed to be attached to The Batman, and what better fits the title than being Batgirl? It's very much our take on things, and as much as we're using the name, it's very loosely attached to the persona of the comics and it's more about setting up the introduction for an iconic Batman character that we're really excited to have on board this season.
VSGUIDE | What does Vicki bring to the table as a vigilante -- as Batgirl?
JACK MALONE | That's just the thing: she's not a vigilante. She's a reporter. She's had experience in the field since Season 2, and I made a conscious effort to make sure her skills in the field now were indicative of those experiences. They're very much based around "self defence" techniques which was a lot of fun to write. I did a bit of research on specific moves and applied them to the character. One thing I think people forget is that the every day criminal isn't some mastermind that has trained their entire life to go up against vigilantes like Batman who actually go through all this training, so Vicki is able to hold her own for quite a while before things can take a bad turn.
VSGUIDE | Can we expect this to be a story that plays out for the entire season or will Vicki's stint as Batgirl be shortlived considering you mentioned that it will set up the introduction of another iconic Batman character...?
JACK MALONE | The answer to that question is in our season opener so you'll have to watch to find out.
To see the full-size image of Vicki Vale (Yvonne Strahovski) suited up as Batgirl, click here: (x). A date for the season premiere has yet to be released, however production has just begun on the third episode of the season and so hopefully there will be an official date released sooner rather than later. Excited to see Vicki step into the role of Batgirl? Thoughts on the iconic Batman character that her stint as a vigilante will introduce? Do you hope to see Barbara, Cassandra, or Stephanie one day suit up as the character? Let us know in the comments below!

I don't know if it was your inclusion of clips in the S4 opening credts that made Vicki look like a bad-ass, but I kinda feel I saw her taking on a more 'active' role coming... I wonder if she will call herself 'Batgirl', or if it will be a Vicki/Kahn moment to echo the Kara/Cat moment in the "Supergirl" pilot Not to be all The Doctor but I have some questions for you, Mr. Malone! 1: Have you figured out just how major a part of the storyline Kate Spencer is going to be? I LOVED her 'Manhunter' moment in the finale, and hope we get to see more of that side of her. I love the fact she's Chloe's lawyer, whereas in her comic history, she's always been a prosecutor - although having her prosecute Chloe given her own past would have been COOL and TWISTED!! 2: Will you be focusing on Chloe's history with Diana when she returns, or will it be one of those things left unsaid, and just form a bond of understanding between them? 3: With Lana returning under the auspices of being an A.R.G.U.S. agent now, will the Isis Foundation reappear in any form? Will we get an flashback or something to show HOW she came to work for Steve and Pete?

I don't know if it was your inclusion of clips in the S4 opening credts that made Vicki look like a bad-ass, but I kinda feel I saw her taking on a more 'active' role coming... I wonder if she will call herself 'Batgirl', or if it will be a Vicki/Kahn moment to echo the Kara/Cat moment in the "Supergirl" pilot I think when it comes to Vicki and her trajectory from last season, it felt like a natural next step to put her in the action a little more. I had a lot of fun writing the finale, and she had a pretty big face off (no pun intended) with Clayface. She'll be in an interesting position this season and have an interesting connection with Maxwell Lord that I'm excited about I will say 'Batgirl' isn't spoken out loud. It is however used for the dialogue and the introduction of Vicki in the suit, and it won't involve Kahn in any way, shape or form. Kate Spencer will be around on a reoccurring basis. Something happens in the premiere that offers her a specific storyline that is quite unique to her and interesting to explore as things unfold, and she will have a mentor/student relationship with a character on the show that could really use her expertise, her experiences, etc. This season will have a lot of heroes in it and she's definitely one of them! Chloe definitely has a history with Diana, and I'm sure it will surface. This will be a while into the season, though, so I can't talk too much about it just yet purely because I don't have all the specifics to start posting spoilers about but it was no accident to let it slip that they met. The Isis Foundation, or what Lana created the Isis Foundation for, will definitely surface in some way. I don't want to give it all away, but in looking at what Lana's trajectory should be I went back and examined what we had seen so far and tried to keep things consistent. I think you'll all like what keeps Lana in Gotham for the season. In terms of flashbacks, I'm not sure if we'll get a flashback episode. It would be cool to do something like that as I haven't really done it before, but I don't have anything planned at the moment. Unless something from the past comes into the present, I'm not sure if revisiting specific moments in the last five years will move the story forward so we'll have to see!
