"Heart of Steel" - Review

I just want to start out by saying that before this pilot, or before you came around in general, I hated the Avengers. I could not stand them at all. The mere mention of Iron Man made me roll my eyes, lmao. But I gotta say that my mind has been changed. Of course, you've known my newfound feelings on Tony Stark/Iron Man for a while now but as for the rest of the Avengers, my mind has been changed.

I'll let that lead me to what I want to say next. I love the characters. Each of them had something to contribute in this episode, and I really liked that. Though I have to say that my personal favorites are Tony Stark, Bryce Banner and Jon Van Dyne. Tony is just...epic. There is no question why he's Spider-Girl's favorite Avenger. His attitude, personality, all of it is epic. I LOVE Tony here. Bryce, what can I say? She made me laugh, and she's a total badass. I love her. And Jon was just freaking adorable throughout and his interaction with Henry, oh my God. It was so cute, I loved it. And Jon and Bryce? Don't get me started. I love them as well. The fact that Bryce listens to him makes me laugh, it's great.

The overall story of the episode was entertaining all the way through. You know how hard it is for me to get pulled into things, and this "pilot" was able to do that with ease. It was enjoyable from start to end, and you can tell that this is going to be a very character driven story. With the way you're pulling this characters off...it's going to be amazing, I have no doubts. I think getting thrown into the lives of the Avengers as we were was a great move, and the way you set it up to also give Tony's origin story was fantastic; that is, relating the two events close together. It was easy to follow as well as interesting.

I think the exclusion (for the most part) of the Fantastic Four (Five? Gah! I blame the Outcasts for my confusion) in this episode was also a good move. And what I mean by that is them not being in on the action. I think this episode needed to focus on the Avengers rather than bringing the Fantastic group in with them and so it worked perfectly. However, the part Reed and Susan played was great and didn't feel unnecessary or forced, it flowed right in with the rest of the episode.

Overall, Maddie, I think you've got something great here. The characterization was awesome, the way you weaved it together was nearly flawless and kept me pulled in from start to finish. It was a strong plot through and through with an ending that winded down and really ended the episode on a great note that honestly, I can't wait to read what's next.

All in all, I give the episode a 9/10 - Great characters, great story, with very little flaws.

On that note, I want to say good luck and that I'm really, really rooting for this series! I think it would be a fantastic (no pun intended) addition to the VPN's line up. Good luck, Maddie!

Maddie, I swear I'm going to do a review for the pilot episode soon. You already know most of my thoughts, but I wanna get them out here for the others to see and so I can express the potential that I see in "Age of Heroes", especially now that you've expanded it to include both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four (or five, whatever we're calling it these days XD).

I wrote a review on it a few weeks or so ago, but I was still using that awful laptop that of course shut down in the middle of the review and I got frustrated soooo I didn't finish it. BUT! I promise I'll have one up either later tonight or tomorrow. ^^

The network has just released the schedule for many of "The Outcasts" next run of episodes. Producers of the show have stated that episode nine through sixteen will air this run, however the network has only disclosed nine through fourteen. The next run will start on October 11th and end in late November!


"Honor Thy Father"

However, as if things weren't already going downhill with the intensified drama between many of our Carnival-goers, when two very unwanted guests crash the day of relaxation, Spider-Girl and the X-Men are forced into battle once again. James Franco, Hayden Panettiere, Rosemary Harris and Elisha Cuthbert also guest star in this episode. Bryce Dallas Howard and Kirsten Dunst also star.



"Operation: Repo"

NICK FURY HAS A MISSION FOR THE X-MEN, WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT - When a high-tech, prototype suit is stolen from S.H.I.E.L.D, government agent Nick Fury (special guest star Nathan Fillion) seeks help from two of New York's newest super-team's members. However, the thief, Haylee Osborn (Hayden Panettiere) has covered her tracks well--and for good reason. She employs a man by the name of Randolph Jackson (special guest star Omar Epps) to don the suit and kidnap Spider-Girl (Missy Peregrym) and bring her back alive. Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Storm (Halle Berry) are forced to take on leadership roles back at the Mansion when the Brotherhood launches an unexpected attack. Bryce Dallas Howard, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Tratchenberg, Emma Roberts and Patrick Stewart also star.



"A Southern Touch"

A NEW MUTANT SURFACES AND BRINGS A BIT OF SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT WITH HIM - When Cerebro detects a new mutant with the ability to siphon abilities and memories from anyone he touches, Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) sends the X-Men to confront him in hopes of bringing the mysterious male (special guest star Jensen Ackles) into their ranks before he hurts himself or someone else. Meanwhile, Melanie (Missy Peregrym) gets a little downtime with Gwen (Bryce Dallas Howard), Felicia (Elisha Cuthbert) and Haylee (Hayden Panettiere) while attending her college Bio-Chem class with Dr. Katrina Connors (special guest star Gwyneth Paltrow) at ESU.



"Fire and Ice"

UNDERCOVER OPERATIONS IS DEFINITELY NOT WHAT THEY SIGNED UP FOR - Jiang-Li Tsao (special guest star Jadyn Wong) has been involved with one of the most notorious gangs on the East Coast ever since her mutant ability to manipulate fire surfaced. When Cerebro picks up her activity, the X-Men are sent on an undercover mission to pose as gangsters in order to get close to the mutant dubbed as "Pyro". Bryce Dallas Howard, Missy Peregrym and Kirsten Dunst also star.



"Sparks Fly"
OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION. NOVEMBER 8TH.
THE WAR AGAINST MUTANTS ESCALATES - Maxwell "Max" Dillon (special guest star Ben Foster) has worked for Solstice Enterprises for several years. However, a serious upgrade to the electrical system that he tries to make goes horribly wrong and leaves him trapped in a suit to contain all the electrical energy flowing through his body. When he tries to go into public, Spider-Girl (Missy Peregrym) immediately goes on the offensive after mistaking him for an enemy. While she's distracted, anti-mutant extremists take things into their own hands when Euphoria's (Scarlett Johansson) hospital is attacked for offering free treatment to mutant youth.



"MIND YOUR MASTER"
OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION. NOVEMBER 15TH.
HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A MASTERMIND SCORNED - While Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Ororo (Halle Berry) are busy dealing with Mutant politics in Washington, D.C., the X-Men are left unsupervised. Planning on nothing but relaxation despite Kristen's (Jessica Biel) protests and demands for a productive day, the X-Men are perfectly content with his absence. But one of Xavier's old students who still feels disdain for the Professor after his abandonment many years ago decides to mess with their heads in his jealous wrath and sends them to a small island known only as "Monster Island" to lead them to their inevitable death. And when the Professor can't get through to them because of heavy telepathic interference, things start to look extremely grim. Missy Peregrym, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Kirsten Dunst also star.
