402: "Girls Night"Definitely a much lighter episode, with still a lot of tears, at the beginning anyway. I feel like this episode moved a lot slower than the previous episodes, which understandable because we are still dealing with the fall out of the shooting. However, I do think that I would have loved the episode to focus more on girls night itself. That last 2 pages of this episode were my favourite part to read, It was the girls coming together and being like "enough moping around, lets get through this together." I think maybe shortening down the beginning scenes and having more of that would have a lot of fun as well as include a lot of resolution for the girls. I really like when Alex and David have a scene together, the friendship is great. it nice to see David's comic book references are rubbing off on Alex. Lol. And finally we get to meet his parents, for a brief moment, but its exciting, I've been dying for his mom's to come into for some time now. I'm certainly looking forward to Davids arc this sequence, theres a lot of things for him to deal with, from the break up, to his recovery and now with his parents in town. I can't wait to dive more into his story. Overall good episode, gave the characters that room too reflect. But here's to more girls nights. Lol.

This wasn't really an episode of plot progression, as it was for character development. I really wanted to highlight the bond that Rose, Alisha, Paula, and now Judy, all share, and I wanted to have them talk about their problems in a natural way. I'm glad people seem to be enjoying that aspect! Haha, I tend to overplan for episodes, so I would have loved to expand upon the actual girls night, but with the constraint of pages I didn't really see it going any longer. Alex and David have some of my favorite scenes together, and they'll have more together in the second half of the sequence, which is also where there'll be a lot more of David's story arc and his moms. Thanks again, Jay!

"Baes" Review
This episode was definitely back to the Audition we've known and loved since the beginning. It had that nostalgic flare of Alisha and Alex confiding in each other and being so close with one another paired with a much lighter tone for the auxiliary characters. It also managed to find a new purpose for last season's antagonists, Mia and Robbie, all the while feeling like an organic development for those characters.
Firstly, I wanted to say that the Alisha/Alex scene was definitely my favourite. I think these two have such a beautiful friendship, but they're slowly forming into the Chloe and Clark of Smallville in that THEY ACTUALLY BELONG TOGETHER. I'm serious. I remember semi-shipping them in the first sequence, and it was met with: "No, no, no, no, no they're just friends, Jack." The show has stayed true to that and I'm fine with that, but this scene just made me realise that they're kind of the perfect match. I mean, I was reading something earlier today about how when one character is undeveloped in a romance storyline -- for example, Oliver and Felicity (the latter being underdeveloped) -- it can be quite a jarring relationship to watch unfold, and not quite fit within the fabric of the show, and it just made me think that Alex and Alisha are both developed characters to the point where if they fell into a romantic storyline, it would just click perfectly. However, I don't see it happening, or at least anytime soon, and I appreciate that they can still be the best relationship of the show without having to be anything more than friends. It is a shame, though. I feel like they're parents, sitting on the sidelines wishing for them to get together because I'd be like: "I'm happy my child ends up with someone like them." YA FEEL?! The reason I'm saying this is because I got so drawn into that scene that it actually hurt when Alisha was like: "You need to ask Rose out." I was like NO, ASK ALISHA OUT DAMMIT. And then realised I'd fallen into this ship again. Oh well, personal preferences. Speaking of ships, though, I'm a little nervous about Rose/Robbie interaction. Should the show enter a romantic storyline between Alex and Rose, I can only assume we're looking at another love triangle here, and I don't want Alex to be heartbroken (so lets just pair him up with Alisha, yes?!) Okay, I'll shut up now.
Moving on, I wanted to talk about what that scene did for Alisha. As you know, I've struggled with this storyline for her and trying to connect because I don't see it as a "mistake" so much as a choice she made. However, in this particular episode, her explanation felt more organic. I think the bond between her and Alex is so believable that you can understand her spilling her guts and being so genuine and honest with him as opposed to any other character on the show, and so seeing her be so honest about what happened -- despite already hearing this explanation in the last sequence -- I was able to connect with her and understand where she's coming from in all of this. It's important to not let one moment in your life -- one time you messed up well and truly -- define you. I think seeing how she proceeds forward from this point on will be what I'll take away most from Sequence Four because she's actually one of my favourite characters, and I think that's why I was so angry about what she did. So she's definitely a "watch this space" for S4!
The Mia and David scene felt really nice, too. I mean, I don't know if it's the optimist in me just wanting to believe that she's genuinely being nice or what have you, but I felt like in that moment is was real and she was endearingly awkward so I think that further highlights the genuine nature of her visit. David's parents were also a nice addition to the lighter tone of the episode and I'm really happy they've grown out of just a reference and into full-blown characters for the sequence. I hope we see more of them. You have a knack for adding distinct qualities to your characters and relationships that make you remember them for their quirks -- in the parents' case, it's their public display of affection, and just overall attraction to one another that they can't seem to hold off on. Adding that anecdote about David's childhood was a nice touch. I thought it was hilarious that they almost missed his first steps because they were making out, and years later, they're still all over each other.
Lastly, as someone whose reaction to alcohol is like being turned into a vampire on TVD, I liked seeing drunk Alisha, Paula and Judy. I mean, Paula drinking just enhances how clumsy she normally is, and it enhances how much of a flirt Judy is, and Alisha's was just hilarious. I like the call back to it in the morning with Alex and Alisha (seriously shipping these guys I don't care). I think it was a nice way to start off the episode because you immediately know we're heading into a much lighter tone, and there's not going to be a gun going off, people getting shot, dying, bleeding out, etc. It really was like reading an episode back in the first sequence, and I appreciated it.
All in all, the best episode of the sequence so far.

It also managed to find a new purpose for last season's antagonists, Mia and Robbie, all the while feeling like an organic development for those characters. Omg. I never expected this! Haha! I feel like I'm ripping your soul out and stepping on it, because there aren't any plans for Alex and Alisha to be involved romantically. The scene was definitely their to strengthen their bond, and allow Alisha to grow. Because she's tried all of these things to make herself feel better, so she finally talked to her best friend - or her bae - and it was a real milestone in her arc. I hope you can find yourself to ship them as friends tho! Yeah, I was really worried that it would get perceived this way. I need to clear this up haha. There will be no romantic storyline between Rose and Robbie. It's strictly professional. They both have a dream they want to accomplish, and they've realized that they can benefit from each other. So no heartbreak will be brought because of that I think Alisha's storyline is my favorite this season. This is honestly just the beginning, and I can't wait to see how you find her development in the next few episodes, because that's where it really starts. Hopefully you find it to be an organic progression like you did in this episode. I don't want to say too much. I don't want to give anything away! Mia and David will be spending quite a lot of time together. There's a scene between them in the next episode that really explains a lot about who Mia is, and why she acts the way she does. They really share a bond that will develop (either platonic or romantic, I shall not say) over the course of the sequence. Mia isn't all bad, lol, and David really starts to pull back her hardened exterior, and we begin to examine Mia as a character, and as a person. So I'm really excited about that. His parents start appearing more frequently in the second half of the sequence. This was really just a natural introduction for them, so I hope you enjoy their future involvement, because it brings about a lot of backstory for David HAHA! This was a lot of fun to write. I loved making them all have different reactions to being intoxicated. Plus, that callback was really fun as well. This definitely marked a return to the series lighter tone, but that's not saying there still won't be serious elements. Thanks again, Jack! This review, as always, was phenomenal and it really meant a lot

4.03 - Baes | REVIEWAnother episode of Audition and I gotta say, this is probably my favorite of the sequence so far. Paula, Judy, Alisha and Rose coming back from their drunken girls night in the previous episode was a fun way to start this off. I love when characters get drunk in this show. Their dialogue is always so goof. I'm surprised Paula was more reserved here, and Judy and Alisha were the ones who were the most affected it seems. Probably because Drunk!Paula and Sober!Paula are damn near the same thing most of the time. haha! Really loved Alisha's signaling walking and talking - that was hilarious. She was really out of it too. And Judy's flirting was insane. haha! Loved that entire scene. But moving on, David's still in the hospital, but we get to see more of Shannon and Mei, which is great. Them just making out right next to him was hilarious. And apparently it's not the first time they've done it, and I can't see it being the last time either. I already love the relationship David has with his moms. Shannon calling the doctor out and David cheering her on was so awesome. Glad they got that little moment. Felt like a nice victory for them and that had me going-- The scene between David and Mia was unexpected. It feels like she's being genuinely concerned and feeling guilty about David's situation, but you can never really tell with her. haha I am interested in exploring this more though. I'm all for giving Mia more depth and three-dimensionality, and maybe this is will lead to that. Another interaction I wasn't expecting -- ROSE/ROBBIE! I don't know how I feel about that. HAHA! I can't deal with both David/Mia AND Rose/Robbie. At least not at the same time. But it's still very early to comment on either. And finally, we get to the BIG scene of the episode. Probably my favorite of the episode. Alex and Alisha's relationship has already been a highlight for me since sequence one. Those two have this special bond and they've been on each other's side since the beginning; I just love how close they are, and even though they both go off and do their own thing a lot, they can meet back up and still talk to each others; give each other support and love. And that's what it's like to be someone's best friend. You're not always there when you want them, but they're there when you need them! Gah! Just loved that scene. I don't necessarily ship them the way Jack does. I'm not sure why. It definitely wouldn't be the worst ship in the world; far from it. But I really love their platonic love and friendship. And if that's all it ever is, I'll be quite satisfied. And oh, I agree with Alisha. Alex really needs to ask Rose out. hahaha! Can't wait to see how that one turns out! They would be the cutest. I'm squeeeing just thinking about it! Great episode, Brady! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us

4.03 - Baes | REVIEWAnother episode of Audition and I gotta say, this is probably my favorite of the sequence so far. Hahaha, yeah that's why I really wanted to start the episode that way. I loved writing all of the different reactions, and I didn't really want to change Paula too much because, like you said, she acts drunk pretty much all of the time. Glad you enjoyed the scene I'm really excited for the second half of the sequence, because that's where David, Shannon, and Mei are really going to get the opportunity to shine. It's really going to showcase their relationship, as well as give some backstory on David and why he is the way he is. I'm really excited for it. Oh, and that little call out just had to be in there! The David and Mia relationship is really going to help Mia grow as a character, and it's really going to help the audience pull Mia's layers back and see her true person. Glad you're looking forward to it! Like I said in Jack's review, there's going to be absolutely no romantic involvement between Rose and Robbie. They're two singers who can benefit off of one another in trying to get themselves noticed. Hopefully I can change your mind on how you feel. That scene was probably my favorite to write. I love the moments where I can highlight their friendship, because even if it's not a focal point all the time, it's one of the biggest factors of the show. I just love their friendship. They're in quite a lot of scene together in the first half, not necessarily to the caliber of this episode, but they will be together. I don't see them getting together anytime soon (never say never??) but I love their friendship, so I don't see that changing anytime soon haha. More Alex/Rose (Rolex, I think??) next episode! Hope you enjoy that too Thanks again, Chris! I always love reading your thoughts, and I can't wait to see what you think of the rest of the sequence

Okay, reviews for 4.02, 4.03, and 4.04 under the spoiler because they got long! 4.02 Girls NightI like the focus on the girls this episode, I alway love things that highlight strong female friendships/relationships though so I may be a bit biased in liking this episode XD I love how Judy and Rose were there for Paula and Alisha respectively (even if I wasn't such a big fan of the 'girl ends a relationship with a guy and spends her time crying and eating chocolate/ice-cream' cliche) and how they went about helping them. The scene with David and Alex was good too. I really like seeing their friendship explored too, and how Alex is juggling that friendship with David compared to his friendship with Alisha. I mean, he obviously cares about them both and it's nice to see him be there for both of them like a mature adult, rather than picking a side or something. I think that's done really well. Nice to see David's mums make an appearance too, though I had a big problem with David referring to them as 'guys'. I don't know if that's a David characterisation quirk or if you were just not sure how to have him address two parent's that are both 'mum', but it just felt really awkward to me. It makes their relationship seem kinda distant, or like David doesn't want them there, because 'guys' sounds quite impersonal. It is a small thing in the overall episode but something I found really jarring nonetheless. The final drinking scene was kinda cute, though I am a bit worried about Judy's comment of 'I drink to much'. I wasn't sure if it was just meant to be funny or hint at an actual serious problem she has with alcohol. If it's the former it's a really funny line! But if it's the latter it comes off as quite dark, which may not necessarily be out of place considering the more dramatic turn Audition has taken in some of the past few episodes. 4.03 BaesOmg, sorry Brady but I hate the title on this, because I have to hear my younger teenage sister say 'baes' constantly and it just drives me up the wall to be honest, haha! But anyway, on to this episode. The drunk scene at the start was amusing, poor Michael just so used to everyone's antics by now he doesn't even care, just goes to bed, lol. While I liked David's mums in the previous episode I feel like this episode kinda just turned them into a joke, what with their constant making out. I mean, it's nice to see that they're so into each other as a couple but come on, time and place people, time. and. place. In your son's hospital room after he was shot and now may have some kind of spinal damage just seems so... wrong, I guess, even for laughs. That's just my personal opinion though, maybe others do find that funny, I don't know. I feel like it was just a little out of place considering how serious the whole shooting storyline has been. Oh, and while I love that you're promoting the fact that same-sex couples can have children and it totally shouldn't be thought of as strange or anything else negative that less open-minded people tend to think, I wasn't cheering for Shannon when she 'slayed' that doctor. I think it would have been perfect if you had included one more line or a sign from the doctor that he disliked the idea of two women having a child- instead it looked like the doctor asked a very legitimate question 'who are you?' (because David's parents haven't been there for long, maybe he hadn't seen them yet) and then Shannon jumped down his throat, assuming he was questioning their ability to be parents as two women. Like I said, just one more line making the doctors opinions clear would have made that a great scene, but instead I'm left not really liking Shannon and Mei's attitudes. I have a number of friends and some family members who are gay or bi women, and I know that they wouldn't be overly happy with Shannon and Mei's characterisation in this for a number of reasons. That's all I'll say on the matter here, but I am more than happy to discuss this further with you if you're interested to hear about why it might be seen as problematic for some people. It was nice to see Mia owning up to the fact that she's been a bit of a bitch, even if it was in her own kinda gruff way. I kinda hope she maybe mellows out a little, stops being so nasty and competitive because it looks she would be able to make friends with some of the 'audition' gang. That said, her actions may have already made that unlikely, but here's hoping for some cool character development for her. I'm also kinda liking the Rose/Robbie dynamic, even though it was small, and I'm hoping we get so see more of them together And omg this one is getting long so I'll just sign it off by saying that the Alex and Alisha scene was really nice too- it's nice to see how close they are and just how strong their friendship is! 4.04 The First Date(s)Okay, last one, here we go! I always think my reviews for Audition will be short but then they always ended up long, haha! But yes, 'The First Dates'. It's super cute how everyone is so supportive of Alex asking Rose out, but I also think they all know she's totally going to say yes, haha! And filming it for David is a nice gesture, poor guy is stuck in hospital so it's probably some of the only entertainment he'll get. Oh, and the scene with Alisha and Robbie just reminded me of something I wanted to say. *puts on rant hat* I feel so freakin' sorry for Alisha! Like, okay, she kissed another guy while in a relationship which shouldn't have happened and it's completely fair for David to end the relationship, but what's with everyone demonising her, including herself?? It was literally one kiss- not sex, not even a make-out session, and it's not like she'd been flirting with him or anything. In fact, Robbie was totally pushing her, and Mia was manipulating Robbie, and it just rubs me so wrong that Alisha is copping all the flack for it! I really hope something is going to happen in later episodes that puts this right because it's so unfair. *rant over* Anyway, where was I? Oh, the 'dates' our title promised. First of all, so cliche that they ended up at the same restaurant- you think Michael would have checked or something but apparently not, lol. I can't believe they didn't notice each other until that late in the meal either, but at least they were across the room from each other so they did get some privacy despite the awkwardness. I don't know how I feel about Rose and Alex as a couple (I was kinda feeling the Rose/Robbie vibe from last episode) but I'm happy to see how it pans out. So that sums up my reviews for the latest episodes. Pretty solid Audition episodes and I'm interested to see how things are going forward in the rest of sequence 4

"First Dates" Review
Audition truly is back to its lighthearted nature that really drew me into the show with an installment that focused on figuring out what makes you happy and choosing to work towards it -- Alex asking Rose out, Michael choosing to appreciate the role Paula plays in his life at this current moment, David and his relationship with his broseph Alex, and lastly, Alisha and her choice to put the past behind her without absolving her responsibility in the consequences of her actions.
First off, I wanted to talk about Alex and Rose. Back in the second sequence when Rose was introduced in place of Alisha's absence, there was a distinct difference between the two dynamics: one could develop into a romantic storyline, and the other seemed a lot more difficult to tap into that development. During the third sequence, it felt as if that potential was postponed or even abandoned completely, with the dark tones of that sequence serving as quite a plague on the character of Rose, and separating her from the main story with her own arc that I was just as invested in as any romantic entanglement for her. Now, with all the doom and gloom out of the way, the potential for romance between these two characters is being tackled and it definitely feels like it's been earned. More importantly, I don't think we've seen Alex and Rose individually happy with what's going on in their lives for a while now and so from a character standpoint, this direction for the two characters is welcomed with open arms on my front, especially if the nature of their relationship is going to continue to have this overjoyed tone to it, and this overall sense of happiness which is a nice contrast to the decaying state of David and Alisha's romance which was at the center of the show for a while now.
It was nice to see so much support for Alex from his family and friends. The most notable one of course came from his father, Michael, who I felt grew encouraged by his son's decision to embrace his happiness that he too took a chance with Paula. Unfortunately, their date didn't seem to hold the romantic flare of Alex and Rose, and instead resulted in his realisation that despite whatever feelings he harbors, he has Paula as his "bestie" and that might just be good enough for him. As a hardcore shipper of these two characters, it was both a favourite aspect of the episode and one that made me miserable (in all the best ways). However, I do think that this was a confirmation of untapped feelings and it's been something that I feel was four sequences in the making. It was also a nice confirmation that no matter what happens -- whether we get to see them romantically together or not -- they will always play a role in each other's lives and I think its important to show that platonic relationships are just as important and you have demonstrated that through both Michael and Paula, and also Alex and Alisha, throughout the course of the series so far. So while this "first date" for them wasn't exactly what I was hoping for (just get married already), it was definitely a step forward in their relationship and an exciting development between them, nonetheless.
One of the things that I've noticed already in this sequence so far is how much pulling David away from Alisha has really made him stand out on his own too feet. As much as I love him, he was kind of a supporting character to her journey, and we only had his amazing quirks and characterisation to really cling to in this role. Now, he's really shining and we're seeing more and more of him in a different light that makes me really happy and excited about this sequence. Whether endgame ships are planned or not, I think it's good to branch characters away from romantic storylines they've been a part of for the majority of their time on the show. For reference, I think the final season of One Tree Hill benefited by having Nathan and Haley physically separated from one another for the majority of its run because it allowed us to see sides of Haley that we didn't know existed. That's how I feel about David this sequence. We're seeing how supportive and kind he is, how welcoming and caring he is, and I think certain insecurities and doubts have been taken away from him in the breakup between he and Alisha because we're no longer seeing him as part of a duo as much as it is just him on his own and I commend you on doing that (especially when they were a fave couple of mine from the series). David continues to be one of my favourite characters from the show, if not, my absolute favourite.
The only problem I had with this episode was with Alisha's scene with Robbie as it didn't quite flow organically -- not within the confines of the entire episode but with the dialogue. It just felt like it was one of those necessary scenes that had to happen in order to develop these two characters, and their dynamic together, but had reached a point where it was difficult to figure out how to mask the point of the scene in the characterisation of these two characters (if that makes sense). It happens to all of us where you have a scene that needs to play out but you're not as invested in it and so you get the point of the scene on paper, but not the emotion and the intent from the characters. That said, I do appreciate the scene and I am so happy with what it does for Alisha's character in particular. She has come so far since the premiere, and her taking on this responsibility now and saying what she did to Robbie... it just further highlights the fact that she's come a long way in such a short amount of time. So when I say "problem," I don't mean to ruined the episode or anything like that or even ruined the scene, it was just one of those things where it didn't feel as organic as the rest of the episode and the rest of the scenes, despite maintaining the integrity of the scene's purpose.
All in all, it was another fantastic episode of "Audition." I think you deserve a medal for finding ways to develop multiple characters and multiple storylines in the space of ten pages, and this sequence is starting to shape up to be one of my favourites. The lighter tone has surfaced, pay-off for dynamics established early on the series are happening, and things are just at a really exciting place for the show. I'm looking forward to the next episode, man. Sorry for my late review, I got caught up in writing on "Audition" day and then got the flu, but now that I'm stuck in an office with nothing to do, I just had to get the episode up and make this day 10 times better, and so a really happy episode of "Audition" definitely did the trick.

Okay, reviews for 4.02, 4.03, and 4.04 under the spoiler because they got long!p Thanks so much for the review, MJ! Yeah, I really wanted to highlight the relationship all of these women share, because I think it's something that hasn't really been highlighted before on the show. It was just so much fun to write! I loved showing the parallel between Paula and Judy, and then Alisha and Rose before having them all come together. It was seriously a highlight for me. Oh, and to be fair, Rose and Paula only brought/ate their respective chocolate and ice cream because they found it on the internet/have been exposed to the cliche before. Haha! Alex and David have one of my favorite relationships on the entire show. I love their somewhat brotherly bond that has grown from David strictly being a third person in the Alex/Alisha duo to having full fledged friendship between the two. Thanks for that compliment about Alex, because I really didn't want their to be a war between sides with Alex having to pick a side, because I just didn't like that idea. I really love writing Shannon and Mei - they'll be present a lot more in the back half of the sequence, when David's storyline begins to take the forefront. In regards to David referring to them as "guys" - it's not because I didn't know how to address him having two moms, though I don't see why that would be a problem. It's just a natural response. I know a lot of people who refer to their parents (regardless of gender) as "guys" when talking to both of them at the same time, including myself, so I didn't see it as being a problem at all. I wrote it to be familiar, not impersonal. That scene was definitely one of my favorite to write in the entire series. Like, top five haha. It really emphasized the problems these ladies were going through, and how they're beginning they're recovery process form it. And haha no the Judy comment was purely for comedic purposed. There's no dark storyline planned for her. Sooorrryyyy. But yeah, Michael was so done with all the drunkenness LMAO. I saw it more of as a confirmation that these women were exactly how David described them, which was how they make out literally all the time haha. Yeah, I can see how it can be inappropriate, but in my defense - he was asleep, and he has been recovering quite well lmao. I've sent you a PM discussing this. Mia's got one of my favorite arcs this sequence. It's not necessarily a huge one, but some of her scenes have been some of the best to write for me. She's definitely going to mellow out, but she'll always have that feisty attitude about her, which will still come through occasionally. Ooh nice! I'm really excited for Rose and Robbie. They're going to be working together in a strictly platonic way, because they both have a dream of making it big in the music industry so they'll be able to benefit off of one another. And I love Alex and Alisha's friendship, and that scene was so much fun to write Hahaha! Thanks again for these reviews, MJ! Aww, thanks! I love the scene, because it all just came together so well in my head, and I still wanted to show that relationship between Alex and David, even though they're not in the same place. It's definitely comforting that you feel sympathy for Alisha. I really love her story this sequence, because it's all about owning up to the mistakes she's made and growing from them into a better person, and still living her life. But... you're mistaken, because it wasn't just one kiss. Alisha went back to Robbie in a later episode and made out with him voluntarily. While Robbie did initiate the first kiss, he didn't force her to do anything she didn't want to do, nor did Mia. And while I stand by Alisha demeaning herself for this mistake, I don't see anyone else really being cruel or harsh to her. I don't know, we might just be interpreting it in different ways. Haha to be fair, I don't think it was on Michael's mind to check something like that. And if he did - I wouldn't have an episode! But yeah, Rose and Alex are officially and couple and I can't wait to see what everyone thinks of their development! Thanks again for the reviews, MJ!

" First Dates" ReviewAudition truly is back to its lighthearted nature that really drew me into the show with an installment that focused on figuring out what makes you happy and choosing to work towards it -- Alex asking Rose out, Michael choosing to appreciate the role Paula plays in his life at this current moment, David and his relationship with his broseph Alex, and lastly, Alisha and her choice to put the past behind her without absolving her responsibility in the consequences of her actions. Yay! I'm really happy that this sequence is getting back to its roots, because it's been a while haha. I'm so happy that you can point out the themes of each episode, and how you always mention them. It seriously makes my day I really wanted Rose to be pushed off to do her own thing for a while, a thing that has shaped who she is now, and then put her back into the group she never necessarily left. The scene she had with Alex in s3 was a real defining moment in their relationship. And then this episode was another moment, and she and Alex are going to have some great scenes together and I can't wait. I love that you contrasted them to David and Alisha's relationship status right now, because it's so true and I feel like it's such an interesting dynamic to have a cute relationship form at the brutal end of another one. I really loved the parallels between Rose/Alex and Paula/Michael, not just in the restaurant scene, but in the initiation of the date scene. While they're still not a couple, it was a real defining moment, at the dinner table, for Michael and Paula, with him finally (FINALLY) calling her his bestie. They'll always have a special relationship, even if it doesn't end up romantically, that mimc that of Alex and Alisha. I'm just really glad you liked it I'm sooooo excited to see what you think of David's storyline, especially in the back half. I'm over the moon that you're already loving him, because what you've said it completely true - he's always been a supporting character, and now he's finally out on his own and I'm so happy to see what you think and just ugh. I love writing his qualities, and it means a lot knowing I'm doing your favorite character justice. Yeah, this was a problem I had with the episode. I hate scenes where I don't know where to put them in, so I kind of just shoved it in this episode to get it done and over with, because it did need to happen. This is one of the last scenes Robbie and Alisha share this sequence, so it needed to be a moment that really made sense for them to be through with one another. Alisha realizes the choices she made with him were a mistake, and Robbie now has his sights set on his dream. I'm still happy it didn't ruin any aspect of the episode though. Yay! Thanks again, Jack! I always love reading your thoughts. That's such a compliment, and don't apologize for lateness because it just means a lot that you still took the time to read and review.

"Let's Go Out" Review
Audition is back this week with another light hearted episode. This time around, there wasn't so much an interconnected nature to everyone's storyline so much as a progression of character and their individual development that I love to see even more so than anything else -- something this show nails every week. While the central focus was on a storyline that didn't quite provide us with anything other than what I can only assume is set-up, all the side-stories were a breath of fresh air and did a really good job at taking these characters from point A to point B, locking us into a really good place for the next episode.
First off, I have to talk about the Rose/Alisha outing. I thought it was really nice to see these two together, and kind of taking some time off. I mean, Rose kind of had a bit of a happier progression in the previous episode, but she's still been through quite a terrible experience, and so the idea of her taking Alisha to a "mixer" sounded like a good idea. Unfortunately, all they read was "free" and "food" and wound up at a lesbian mixer where we were introduced to a new character, Kelsey Marks. Now, at first glance, this storyline didn't really provide much for us. It felt like a great deal of set-up was happening, and so from that stems questions about how Kelsey will come into play, and whether or not she will continue to serve a role in Alisha's and/or Rose's life. I think we could be looking at an exploration of Alisha's sexuality, perhaps? I mean, the only thing we really know about Alisha's sexuality is that she's never been looked at as someone to focus on, and someone to have feelings for and to find beautiful and attractive and what have you, and we've only ever seen that come from her interactions with men -- David and Robbie -- and so when Kelsey compliments her, she kind of blushes. Now, regardless of sexuality, anyone can be flattered by a compliment and so I'm probably reading into this a little much, but I'm just trying to find a way of figuring out what the purpose behind this storyline was and what was so important about ending up at the lesbian mixer. I mean, Kelsey could potentially become a reoccuring character that serves as Alisha's new bffl outside of Alex, and now Rose, or she could be the beginnings of an arc that explores Alisha's sexuality, and while she isn't gay, that doesn't mean she isn't attracted to women and so either way, I think the questions that have come out of this episode, and this particular episodic storyline for her, make up for the more set-up based progression we're dealing with here. I'm probably way off here. All I know is that it's going to be interesting to see how Alisha adapts and grows from her previous self where she'd jump someone's bones for looking at her as remotely beautiful and actively pursuing her because of how open Kelsey is about finding Alisha attractive. So either way, I'm interested to see where this develops.
Moving on, I will say I enjoyed the side-stories so much more as they allowed for stronger development. Mia, for example, has become quite endearing in the state we're revisiting her this sequence. I quite like her interactions with David, and I have to commend you on your job of giving us antagonists for a sequence and then peeling back these layers as if to say: "hey, what they did was horrible, but they're not necessarily horrible people; they're human and watch them learn and grow from their mistakes." It's great to see you treat all characters on this show equally. When the "antagonists" mess up, they get the chance to redeem themselves. When Alisha messes up, it's not swept under the rug because she's not an "antagonist." I think that's something worth noting here, and giving you props for because I know a lot of actual television shows that don't offer the same treatment to all their characters and it's a shame. Continuing on from what I said about Mia, I think her side-story allowed us to dig into her mind a little more and figure out the reasons behind her doing what she did. I think its interesting that you explore the idea that people don't just do things without reason. I would have hated if Mia didn't have some grand back story behind why she does the things that she does and why she's been so terrible to people since her introduction. I think she could potentially be a stand-out character by the end of the sequence, and things are definitely heading in a good direction. Although, I do see a lot of drama sparking from a possible romantic development between Mia and David but at this point, it's no one's business but theirs and I don't hate the idea. Speaking of David, he continues to be one of the best characters on the show.
Alex is on cloud nine right now. He's so happy. It's a nice thing to see and I think this sequence has really bounced back from quite a dark year in a really organic way. Things bubbled to a point where it became quite difficult to picture a more light-hearted fourth sequence, especially with the way things ended, and so it's been incredibly refreshing to tune back in this sequence and see how these characters have managed to step out of the darkness and into the light (barfs at cheesy wording). You're also making me warm back up to the idea of Alex and Rose purely based on how happy they've been since the date. Damn you. (quietly ships Alex/Alisha as well though)
Lastly, Michael and Paula side!stories are becoming a thing and I absolutely love it. Michael had a really nice moment in this episode that was built from pure honesty and I love how open he can be about his feelings, especially in front of Paula. It's nice to see a father admit some form of jealousy towards his children and his children's friends in regards to them chasing their dreams and him being stuck at some job he doesn't feel passionately about. I think it's healthy to get that stuff out, and then figure out what he wants to do and go for it (even though he's doing a bit of a swing and a miss right now). I mean, he wasn't sounding jealous at all, but what he was saying could potentially stem from a place of jealousy, and I just thought it was really sweet to see how open and honest he could be about that kind of thing, and more importantly, go: "wait a second, I don't like what I'm doing, and I want to find something I'm really great at too." He continues to be a really solid, stand-up kinda guy.
Overall, it was a really nice episode of "Audition." The side-stories were far superior to the central focus of the episode purely because the main storyline dealt with setting something up that would have pay-off later (which is not a negative at all). So far, I think this is shaping up to be the best sequence of the show so far. Every character has their own individual storyline that is being progressed weekly, and all characters are getting their time to shine. So far, it's been a really balanced, well thought out and developed sequence and you should be really proud of yourself, man. Another great episode of a really great show!

Yeah, Alisha's storyline from this episode was entirely set-up. I was really worried some would think not enough happened with her, since there were other things going on with other characters, but it's good to hear that you enjoyed it even if nothing really progressed I really loved capitalizing on the Rose/Alisha friendship, because that's something we didn't get to see a lot in the past sequence, or sequence before that because of Alisha's off-screen storyline. These ladies are friends, and I love showcasing it any time that I can. Also, Kelsey is going to open an entirely new arc for Alisha, not only having to deal with her sexuality, but having to deal with herself. So, you're definitely right on that. And I'll leave it at that because you've come up with some interesting speculation, my friend. Mia's arc this sequence, while mainly spent with David, is going to consist of her attempting to grow from her antagonistic state of putting people down because she's been hurt in the past. It almost parallels Alisha's, because she's going to have to learn that what she's done is wrong, and that she's trying to become a better person. David really helps a lot with that. Also, thank you so much for the compliment! I really enjoyed writing Mia's dialogue with David, because, like all of these characters, I really put something personal into it. I feel like each character on this show is a quality, flaw, etc. that I have with myself, and I think that's why it's so easy to write scenes like that. The "drama", if you will, based on the relationship Mia and David now share, will be explored in the next episode; although, it might not be because of them. YAY! Alex and Rose is a relationship I've found myself loving to write. I find that they're very similar, but also very different, and they have such a sweet and tender relationship forming that I'm really excited to see what you think of it! Haha, Michael and Paula will always be spending time together. Michael's arc through this sequence is really about finding himself in this city. He's mainly been in the background when it comes to dreams, and he's very much been a supporter of everyone else, so he's going to have to try and find something special that he loves. Paula is definitely going to try and help him in any way, because, I mean, they're besties! Michael will keep looking for what makes him whole, lol. Thanks again for review, Jack! Always love to hear your thoughts. You've got some very interesting speculation, so I'm excited to see what you think of some aspects of the show when they come to fruition.

Alex's Review - 4x04: "Let's Go Out"
I thoroughly agree with everything Jack had to say about this latest installment about "Audition" I need to admit something, may the Might Alyson Stoner strike me down for this: I've not always been an Alisha fan... To my shame, I finally admit this! When I first discovered "Audition", the news that Alisha left at the end of the first sequence had just come out, so I kind of never got attached to her reading it, since she was already 'gone'. I started reading Sequence Two as soon as it airred, and so it wasn't until Alisha was reintroduced I started kind of getting to know her properly, but even then, I prefered seeing Rose or the drama of Jordan and Angela. It wasn't really until the end of the sequence when they're all running off to save Angela that Alisha began to grow on me. Then Sequence Three 'Happened', and Alisha took a center stage again with the whole 'Robbie' thing. So many different sides of the argument have been voiced during the S3 discussion thread, and onto the S4, and I can see both sides of it. All she did was kiss Robbie, yes, but it was still a betrayal of a caring, funny boy who has been by her side her entire time in L.A., and who had supported her through it all, even her absence. I'm glad she's finally owned up to her own sense of guilt and denial, and part of me hopes that her and David, if not reunite, at least patch things up well enough to be friends on some level in the future. But the idea of exploring Alisha's previously held self-conceptions on her own sexuality, if that's where the story goes, excited me to no end! I LOVED Keke's character's introduction, and the setting of the mixer was perfect to allow her to 'put the moves' on Alisha without any kind of extra embarrassment besides the fact that Alisha and Rose were the ones to get their signals crossed.
The only other thing I want to add to that was, as well as having Michael explore his own dreams while in L.A., it's finally nice to have that little bit of dialogue to explain just how and why they can AFFORD to do what they do! I mean, it means Michael is really the unsung hero of the WHOLE DAMN SHOW! Michael's comments about having a degree in business, still actually having a 'job', and making 'enough money to live, and then some', it finally answered a lot of little nagging questions I've had about "Audition" from the start, like how they afford the apartment rent, and some such. I mean, Michael never struck me as the kind of person who would take the money that Alex and Alisha make from their gigs to pay for the bills - it's THEIR earnings. I'm assuming Michael's taking an 'extended leave' or a 'sabbatical' of sorts, which kind of does lead to another possible scenario of that Michael might one day have to leave. Now, I KNOW Paula would be devasted to loose her 'bestie', and as one of the main stars, his departure might be a little unlikely, but Alisha did leave for a season, so it's a possibility..?
I hope Alex and Alisha realise just how damn LUCKY they are - I mean, they stumbled on Paula quite literally, so early into their arrival in L.A., and already have established a decent run of jobs, from the ad campaign to the movie roles. But I hope that "Audition" remembers that, like Rose has found out, that it's not always that way, and that we'll see both Alex and Alisha realise the struggle of being an jobbing actor, looking for work, but having to take menial work and jobs just to make ends meet.

Alex's Review - 4x04: "Let's Go Out"
I thoroughly agree with everything Jack had to say about this latest installment about "Audition" YAY! Lol, that's fine. Don't be afraid to say you don't like characters, because not everyone is going to enjoy the same person. Yeah, Alisha wasn't really a large part of sequence two, except for her return and discovering Jordan's abusive relationship with Angela, so that's fair. This sequence is definitely about Alisha owning up to her mistake, and growing from it. So, it's great to know you've caught on to that. As for patching things up with David, you'll just have to see! haha. That makes me SO happy that you're interested in Kelsey and the exploration of Alisha's sexuality. I hope you enjoy what's to come. Haha! Yeah, I always thought it was kind of implied that Michael had a job, but looking back I guess it wasn't. So, clarifying that was just a little something extra to the scene haha. Oh yeah, Michael would never do that, haha. Plus, Alex and Alisha don't even make enough money to live haha. That's an interesting theory... but no, Michael's not leaving anytime soon. Yeah, I don't think Alex and Alisha really take anything for granted right now. Lol, and don't worry, there will definitely be some struggles. Thanks again for the review, Alex!

"Questioning and Reckoning" ReviewAudition continues with another stellar episode for character development and story progression in an outing that finally pulls David from the hospital setting he's been cramped in since the beginning of the sequence, and into an unexpected storyline that has me extremely nervous for his future on the show. It was quite an interesting direction for his character who, after facing death, now feels invincible. However, this new mindset has me extremely worried. On one hand, I like the fact that he's come out of this thinking that he shouldn't waste time trying to please everyone and can do what he wants now, but on the other hand, risking his life doesn't seem like a step in the right direction and I hope nothing bad comes of it. He has been one of my favourite characters this sequence, and it's nice to see him finally outside of the walls of that hospital so I hope he doesn't do anything crazy that throws him back in there. This episode also gave us more insight into his home life. It was nice to see Shannon and Mei again. I love those two, and you know how much I adore them. This time around we got to see more of their dynamic with their son, and it was hilarious to see how they tried and failed to understand and make comic book references with David. I love that line where David says "I cannot believe we are related" because it just further heightens how David perceives his parents, and doesn't treat it so much as an adoption -- not that he is ashamed of that -- but that these are his parents, and he's as normal with them as any child would be with their parents. I don't know, it's just a really nice, healthy dynamic that was refreshing to see and I think Michael has some competition in terms of greatest parents Moving on, there was a nice Alex/Alisha storyline to follow on from last week's episode that showed the lengths Alex would go to in order to keep Alisha from knowing that Mia and David are growing quite close to one another. It was interesting to see how conflict came out of this as Alisha didn't take too kindly to Alex's lies. However, I wasn't too upset about it. I mean, going into this episode with knowledge that he was going to try and stop her from finding out, or keep it from her, I was a bit upset at the idea of him lying, but when it finally happened, I think I was more annoyed by Alisha's reaction. I think it's just because I couldn't see myself getting upset about the fact that my friend was keeping me from knowing my ex was hanging with someone I didn't like or had a dodgy past with? It's just a disconnect from me, but I know there are people who would be upset by that and I guess it plays into her best friend not being one hundred percent honest with her which isn't exactly great so I could at least understand why she got so upset. It makes me wonder though if Alisha is going to refrain from telling Alex about the "Warfare" update? I just got the sense that she would but don't see her sinking that low and doing something that she had a problem with Alex doing. Speaking of the "Warfare" update, I did like how it pulls us in for the next episode and it was nice to kind of get back to it after all this time. It's been a while since we've had talk of set, and talk of actually pursuing what Alex and Alisha have wanted to do since the land before time, and maybe going back to this project will help get them over this issue. It could also serve as a point of drama considering everything that happened on set with the shooting, and for all the parties involved in that particular project but either way, it's an exciting development. Speaking of developments, Kelsey was back in this episode after her debut last week, and we got to see another layer of this character that was very much appreciated, especially if she is going to continue to play a role this sequence. I think the mixer called for an enhancement of her charm, and flirtatious side of which seemed to capture Alisha in their original meeting, and so it was nice to see her in a completely different environment where she's at work, dialed down a little, and less thirsty. I think the subtle moments of Alisha just catching glances, and realising what she's doing is a really nice step in the right direction for what I can only assume will be a standout storyline of the sequence. You have all the support from me as a fan of the show, and a fan of Alisha, to really dig deep into what her sexuality might be, and I think coming out of such a long running relationship with David, I couldn't really see anyone else coming into sweep Alisha off her feet. So, Kelsey is such a refreshing, unexpected character to come into her world and I've enjoyed both their interactions now. I'm definitely eager to see where this goes from here, and what you've got planned for the rest of the sequence, in regards to Alisha's character, development, and storyline. Lastly, there was a nice side story with Paula and Michael. At first, I was wondering what it would lead towards, considering they were quite detached from the rest of the story, and so I liked that it all roped in at the end with the phone call from Paula. It's nice to just see these characters hanging out, and they're always a refreshing pull away from whatever high stakes drama is going on in these kids' lives. Quote of the episode: "I used to have a boy over, but... but he turned out to be... an episode of Law and Order." - Paula All in all it was another great episode that really took the set-up from last week and executed it in a way that has me even more excited for the episodes to follow. David and Alisha continue to stand out from the pack since the abandonment of their romantic storyline, and the side stories with Michael and Paula continue to be a refreshing escape from the often chaotic drama that entails week to week. I genuinely think this might be my favourite sequence so far, man. Also, I have to apologise for my review because I'm stuck at work and writing this in fragments so it's probably not making sense, and I'm probably leaving out so much to really dig my teeth into and talk about so I'm sorry but I wanted to get this read and reviewed because I can never wait too long to read an episode after its released -- that would be torture.

He has been one of my favourite characters this sequence, and it's nice to see him finally outside of the walls of that hospital so I hope he doesn't do anything crazy that throws him back in there. David's new attitude, while wanting to do somewhat "dangerous" things, won't inflict any harm upon him. He may have a new mindset, but it's not going to cloud his judgment on things that might severely damage him. Hope that cleared that up The comic book "storyline" if you will is going to continue with their next appearance. It's a really cute thing I like writing for them haha. I'm really excited to see what you think about the rest of David storyline, and how Shannon and Mei are going to be a apart of it! I wish I could say more, but I don't want to spoil anything! I think Alisha is more upset because of Alex's lying, and that he lied because he still sees her as someone who can still be damaged from something like seeing her ex boyfriend with another girl. She's not really mad at him, just disappointed. Sorry you felt a disconnect with her reaction though - don't worry, she won't stay mad for long haha. And yes, she's going to tell Alex about the interview, it'll just be off-screen. The next episode opens at the start of the interview. Kelsey will be back in episode 10. Alisha's arc is the one I'm most excited for, so I'm hoping you enjoy it. Haha, it's another one I want to keep hush, hush about because of the impact it will have on her character. I really love writing their little side-stories too! Haha. Hopefully they feel organic enough, and add something to the episode. There will definitely be more! Thanks for the review, Jack! Can't wait to see what you think of the rest of the sequence, because it means so much that you're enjoying this one so much just 6 episodes in. Hope you enjoy!

It's really interesting that you ship Alex and Alisha, as I've told you before. I definitely think it's the strongest relationship on the show right now, so I'm not actually surprised you ship them the way you do. Some of the things in the quote you've described may actually happen sooner rather than later for those two, and while they don't have any immediate plans to become a romantic ship, I never say never when it comes to things like that.
