Or maybe the word dead really means the undead and he can only bring one vampire back to life... back to being human.

Brady, the thing is, the show has deviated from the books severely. As far as the books are concerned, they are just to get ideas from. Darrin, from what we understand the only thing that can turn a vampire into a human is the Cure which Katherine has. (I just realised she also has Silas's headstone. What is she up to?) Silas has been said to be able to raise the dead, not return the undead to the living. Meaning actual corpses, like Hayley's family and everyone the pastor blew up.

"I do have a little good news for Forwood shippers, though. The outcry over Michael Trevino's understated, anti-climactic exit seems to have had an impact on the writers of the show. They've changed their minds! I can reveal that he will be back to share one more pivotal moment with Caroline this season. Your voices have been heard!" -zap2it Source: blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/02/the-vampire-diaries-stand-by-me-rips-our-hearts-out-nina-dobrev-kills-it-and-9-more-things-to-talk-a.html I don't know if I'm the only one who views the entire relationship between Tyler and Caroline as a massive joke, and believes Tyler to be the weakest character in the show's ensemble, but I do, and I was really hoping- no matter how "anticlimactic" his exit was- we wouldn't have to see him, or that relationship, again. Ever since season three, where Tyler and Caroline concluded that they're both incredibly horny creatures, all these two do is have sex, and then have "epic" (*scoffs*) goodbye scenes where we're meant to feel for them as though they're some grand love story. Tyler, on the other hand, just annoys the hell out of me. He's the only character that has never grown on me, and to see him leave would be s ooooo good. That said, it has been speculated by zap2it that this is Tyler's last season of TVD as a series regular. And judging by spoilers, there's meant to be some kind of Caroline/Klaus hookup on its way, so perhaps Tyler comes back in the middle of that, and decides to leave for good, yeah? *hopeful* I know the show has moved away in certain regards from the books, but as far as I'm aware, Caroline and Tyler end up together in the series, and I don't want to see that translate on the show. Personally, I'm all for Caroline and Stefan. Anyway, there's my rant. Hopefully Tyler doesn't play a big role in the episode he's meant to be back for.

4.15 "Stand By Me" First of all, the only thing I can say is WOW! What an episode! The final scene with Jeremy in the fire, as Stefan stood back and watched it burn to the ground, caused me to tear up.
Damon using the sire bond to force Elena to switch off her humanity is an amazing plot development. I can't wait to see how far off the rails she really goes.
It made me think about how Caroline only ever killed one person - I believe, and she managed to keep her humanity this whole time.
It will be interesting to see if Elena will kill anyone or kill more than Caroline has yet too.
Matt Donovan! He has always been my favorite character from the jump. I loved that he is now the shows humanity the scene where he breaks down in the jeep - I kept expecting to see "ghost" Jeremy sitting beside him watching sadly like how Rick did with Damon earlier.
Another question is this. WHY IS MATT NOT WEARING "THE GILBERT RING"
I mean he is the sole human on the show now and in my mind it's not the ring itself that drove Rick crazy - it was the amount of times he died and came back to life that toke it's toll on him.
Bonnie and Damon - That was another great development -- A lot of crazy people are all like "oh, Damon loves Bonnie" I think that's B.S. I think he's just in love with Elena and couldn't watch her lose her brother and best friend in the same day.
Bonnie -- what the fuck!? I think like everyone has said she's gone nuts and the grief of losing Jeremy has for sure hit her just as hard if not harder than Elena if she's willing to kill twelve people to bring him back. Even Elena was like dude that's messed up.
Meredith Fell (Torrey Devitto) Everytime I watch the Vampire Diaries in my head i'm like oh it's Melissa Hastings -- wait a minute that's wrong and whenever I watch pretty Little Liars i'm always like Meredith what are you doing Roeswood!? It should be illegal for one person too play such a long reccuring role for two amazing shows -- all though I've always loved Torrey since her Nanny Carrie days - Even then she was super attractive.

Kill me now. Tyler has been getting worse and worse ever since Klaus made him a Hybrid. I really hope Klaus tears him apart. I just want more Caroline and Stefan scenes really. Not in a relationship, but as best friends. Like Stefan and Lexi.
Right, onto the episode...
Firstly, Bonnie has lost her mind. Jesus Christ, in what world is it a good idea to cause a massacre, collapse Purgatory and bring back all the supernatural creatures, quite a few of which would be looking for revenge against the group. Even Elena who had only just lost her brother is against the idea. Bonnie is insane.
Secondly, Silas. I was not expecting him to take the form of Shane. Makes you wonder how much he told Bonnie is actually true. Him not being able to use magic is obviously not true. And the words "We are the Beginning" makes it sound like a Revolution than just simply releasing all the supernatural from the loneliness of the Other Side.
There was a nice little scene between the real life married couple Paul Wesley and Torrey Devitto as well. For a series about death, they don't talk alot about how that affects people who've seen alot of death.
Now onto Jeremy and Elena. I knew Jeremy would not be resurrected. Watching Elena hold out hope that the ring would bring him back, then hoping Bonnie could bring him back was so upsetting.
Her meltdown was some of the best acting she's ever done on the show. "He's dead. He's dead. Oh my god. I can smell him!" to pouring flammable liquids around the house, to her collapsing crying. She was fantastic. Then that empty stare when she turned off her humanity. Chills...
Elena, Stefan and Damon walking away from the house was very symbolic. She's moving on from her human life and "burning" the past. Stefan being the only one who looked back also worked. That was the house that Elena lived in when she was human, when they fell in love. But that's gone now.

Does anyone else think that Katherine will use the cure on Damon?
I mean, if you think about it, the sire bond will be gone once that happens, because he'll no longer be a vampire. The question of "does Elena actually love him" will be answered out of that. The dynamic of their relationship will shift anyway, as Elena will forever be a vampire, and Damon will be human. I don't know, I feel like that's a huge possibility to here, and would definitely be a lot of drama. Ever since Damon was like 100% against ever using the cure for himself, even if it meant growing old with Elena, I was like "oh, he gonna get cuuuured." Just a thought.
EDIT: Then I wonder, is the cure permanent, in that, you can't be turned back into a vampire, no matter what? Because then, I'd wonder if Damon would be like "screw that" and tries to become a vampire again. But then, to conflict that, characters might hate him for that, considering others view it as such a gift. I don't know. I still think Damon getting cured- permanently- would be a really good turn of events. And Katherine would totally try to screw things up for him and Elena- hell, just screw up his life, in general. She's a BAMF! HAHAHA.

I don't see Damon getting the Cure at all. Honestly, the three main potential targets are Elena, Klaus and Silas.
I don't see Elena ever using it though. Her brother is dead. Most of her friends are vampires. I've just got a feeling that if she is offered the Cure, she'll turn it down. It'd mirror her reaction at the beginning of the season. She didn't want to become a vampire, by the end she doesn't want to go back.
If the Cure is used on Klaus, it'd make him vulnerable for his spin-off, meaning he would be in actual danger during the series. It'd cut the Bloodline connection, so even if he did die in The Originals it wouldn't affect The Vampire Diaries.
As far as we know, using the Cure on Silas is the only way to kill him. It'd allow him to be taken out by the seasons end.
Rebekah is another potential. She has been through a ton of shit throughout her life and has expressed a burning desire to become human. With her going to The Originals though, I just don't see it happening.

That Klaus and Silas meetup. Holy shit. Firstly throwing Caroline's words right back at her, then that utter fear when he sensed Silas behind him.... that was brilliant. Also... Am I the only one who saw the White Oak Stake break when Silas pulled it out of Klaus? Tell me it isn't my eyes screwing up and Silas broke an indestructible stake. Cos that would make him utterly terrifying. He's faster and stronger than Klaus, and if he can break something like that...

I though that was what I saw. Plus I'm really... really not liking the new Elena. What a mega bitch, I think I hate her more than all the evil versions of all the characters, (possibly even Klaus) there's something about her that just drives me nuts, she's somehow worse than Katherine, watching her try to kill Caroline, and later turn on Damon, I find myself liking her less and less, and Elena was someone I never really liked from the beginning.
I think maybe it's because of the "no emotions" thing I really hate, even in Damon's darkest days he displayed hatred, and Katherine in her own twisted way love, we've even witnessed Klaus (and Rebekah) be hurt and betrayed and Caroline never shut out her humanity which is why so many love her, emotions is what connects us to characters and without it how are we supposed to connect to her now. I suppose like all the characters on the show, we just have to ride it out.

I'm actually really enjoying Elena, more than I ever have. Probably because she's acting more like Katherine, and she's actually doing what she wants instead of the Salvatore brother-of-the-week she's with, so... Yeah. Elena is not getting on my nerves currently.
And yeah, I'm pretty sure Silas (Shayne. Like, can we please get another person to play Silas please?) left a piece of the white oak in Klaus' back, because, if I remember, he says something like "Something to remind you of me." But yeah, Silas is pretty intimidating, minus the face and such.

Really enjoyed this episode. This version of Elena is the most intriguing I've seen so far. I think shutting off her emotions was a great move from the writers, because we've seen four seasons of the same old Elena; I've never been a fan of her character and personality until now.
Perhaps I only like it because it's different. But at this point in the game, we desperately needed something different from her character, and becoming a vampire wasn't good enough.

I enjoyed the first few seasons of this show, but I feel like it got a bit slow after a while and I couldn't enjoy it anymore. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion for me, and it honestly felt like a repeat of Twilight (just slightly darker *which is a GOOD thing*)

I'll agree with you about it going slow. This season has been so slow yet so much has happened. I don't get how they managed that. As for it being like Twilight, I don't see it. Outside of roles (Lead female character, brooding vampire), none of them are like are like the characters from Twilight.
Also, Vampire Diaries books were published long before Twilight was.
